The official biopic about late singer Jeff Buckley — “official” because the untitled film is being executive produced by Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert — has found its young troubadour: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark star and singer Reeve Carney. How come the relative newcomer wound up leading the highly anticipated biopic of the late singer?
Days before embarking on their first North American tour, Prince William and Kate Middleton relaxed a little on Monday with a visit to Wimbledon. The couple were greeted with an enthusiastic ovation as they took their seats in the front row of – where else – the Royal Box at Centre Court. William and Kate, who fittingly wore a white Temperley London dress to the most traditional of tennis contests, blushed a little at the adulation: The Duke and Duchess at Centre Court . A spokesman at St. James’s Palace said the couple, who honored UK troops at an event over the weekend, were at the sporting event “privately.” Kate Middleton loves tennis and plays regularly, having visited Wimbledon a number of times. William has been going to the event since he was a child. They were in their seats around 1 p.m. in time to support the UK’s own Andy Murray in his match against France’s Richard Gasquet in the Round of 16. Murray won. The Casey Anthony trial resumed this morning after a judge ruled that the 25-year-old accused murderer from Orlando is competent to stand trial. The trial was abruptly put on hold over the weekend after the judge said a “legal matter” had come up. That matter was Anthony’s mental state. Defense lawyers filed a motion to determine her competency to proceed, and after three psychologists found her competent , the trial goes on. Casey, who is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony, in 2008, has pleaded not guilty. She faces the death penalty if convicted. Prosecutors allege Anthony killed her daughter by using chloroform and suffocating her with duct tape, then leaving her lifeless body in the woods. Casey Anthony’s defense hinges on the theory that Caylee accidentally drowned, that Anthony and her father, George, covered up the accident. George’s prior sexual abuse of Casey when she was a child factored into this poor judgment, her lawyers have posited, to much controversy. Caylee’s remains were found in December 2008, almost six months after she was reported missing, in a wooded area not far from her home. On Friday, Casey’s attorneys showed jurors photos of Caylee climbing a ladder into a pool as her grandmother, Cindy Anthony , supported her. Cindy testified that Caylee could’ve climbed into the pool herself , and also said that she, not Casey, searched for several suspicious terms online.
Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper, possibly Randy Jackson … and Jeff Probst. The Survivor host is the latest big name to land his own talk show, as he confirmed a deal with CBS today that will have the untitled gabfest on the air in 2012. “I’m fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level,” says Probst, who isn’t leaving the reality show that made him famous. “As I continue with Survivor , I am excited to extend my relationship with CBS with this new adventure in the world of daytime.” Probst has stepped in before on Regis and Kelly and on Larry King Live . The new show will cover everything from current events to extraordinary tales. Will you watch?
Fresh off of her lengthy New Yorker profile — which argued that she is one of the few actresses capable of carrying a comedy these days — Anna Faris has successfully pitched Paramount, well, a comedy. The House Bunny actress will star in the untitled project as a woman whose new roommate “turns out to be a stalker from hell;” the idea stemmed from a funny incident that happened to Faris in real life. The script will be written by Deanna Kizis (author of How to Meet Cute Boys ) while Faris, Joe Roth and Palak Patel (both behind the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman ) will produce. [ THR ]
Monotone Canadian funnyman Seth Rogen’s cancer-based comedy is sporting a new name . Previously known as I’m With Cancer and then simply reported as Untitled Cancer Comedy, it’s now been dubbed Live With It. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as a 25 year-old who contracts a rare form of terminal cancer and Rogen stars as, I’m guessing, his braying boobish friend. They’re joined by a bevy of talented co-stars, including Anjelica Huston, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anna Kendrick and Philip Baker Hall. [ /Film ]
