Boy, Bye. Master P Blames Parents Of R. Kelly Accusers, But ‘Ain’t Judging’ The Singer

Source: Chelsea Lauren / Getty Master P  recently shared his opinion about the allegations against R. Kelly and the singer’s alleged victims. But unlike Chance the Rapper and John Legend  who have come out against the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer, the rapper blames the parents, NOT the singer himself. On social media, the rapper posted his thoughts about the highly-watched Lifetime docuseries, “Surviving R. Kelly,” which provided an in-depth look at the 25-plus-years of sexual misconduct accusations against the “Pied Piper.” The 48-year-old father admitted that he doesn’t like folks like the Savages and doesn’t believe they did enough to protect their children. “Let me tell y’all about R. Kelly. The truth is I don’t like the parents…Y’all know I ain’t gonna be on no reality show or Lifetime, I’ma be on CNN, straight up. It’s gonna get real, think about it, I’m not about to play with nobody, I’ma burn it down, I’m gonna do something,” he said.   In a second video, he added this wouldn’t have happened to him. “Ain’t nobody gonna play with my kids. Straight up. You shouldn’t have even been on TV, and if you a parent, you shouldn’t be on that unless you on CNN from a jail cell.” Adding, “I don’t know if R. Kelly did it or not, that ain’t any of my business, I ain’t judging, but I’m just saying those parents shouldn’t have let that go that far. … If my kid in there, it’s gonna be all out war. Everybody coming outside, to be honest with you.”   Wait…so which one is it? How can you be mad at parents for not protecting their daughters from sexual and physical violence you claim may not have happened?   Folks on Twitter were confused and disgusted by what Master P said, accusing him of victim blaming and refusing to hold Kelly accountable for his alleged behavior: Just heard Master P say that what R. Everybody blaming R.Kelly but ain’t nobody blaming these parents. — A K A Y (@ForeverAKay_) January 7, 2019 This set of Master P videos came out the same day that Facebook shut down pages on its site trying to “expose” the singer’s accusers.  As we previously reported , reps from the social network claimed that “Surviving The Lies” violated terms of service. “The Page violated our Community Standards and has been removed,” a Facebook rep said in a statement. “We do not tolerate bullying or sharing other’s private contact information and take action on content that violates our policies as soon as we’re aware.” Initially,  TMZ reported  that “[R. Kelly] and his camp” were behind the two accounts and created them in order to fight back against the doc. A Facebook page created yesterday is now running ads to smear R Kelly's accusers. Barbershop Books Empowers Black Boys To Read

A former educator is on a mission to promote literacy among Black youth. Through his program Barbershop Books, entrepreneur Alvin Irby is bringing literature to barbershops across the country to inspire young African American boys to read, the Tuscaloosa News reported. “Once you figure out how students identify,” @AlvinIrby says, “then you can begin to craft [reading] experiences that are customized to who they are and what's most important to them.” Read more: https://t.co/EH3G0IisNt #ThrowbackThursday — Barbershop Books (@BarbershopBooks) January 3, 2019 The inspiration for the program came nearly 10 years ago when Irby saw one of his students at the barbershop, the news outlet writes. The student—who struggled with reading—was idle while waiting for his haircut and Irby thought that would have been the perfect time for him to work on his literacy skills. A few years later Irby—who taught in Harlem and the Bronx—moved forward with the launch of his organization. Irby believes that representation is everything and it’s important for Black youth to see themselves reflected in the literature that they consume. Through the program—which was created for youngsters between the ages of 4 and 8—the young readers provide suggestions for the types of books that they want to see in barbershops. Irby then ships those books to barbershops throughout the country. The program also allows companies, nonprofits, and individuals to sponsor book stations at barbershops within their communities. “I think many children think learning isn’t for them because they’re forced to choose between who they are and school. But you can be who you are and still be brilliant. You can like rap and be a great reader,” Irby told the news outlet. “Barbershops are like a cultural center for black males. For a lot of boys the barbers are a stable male role model and black boys go there regularly.” Since its inception five years ago, Barbershop Books has expanded into nearly 40 cities and is included in 120 barbershops. There has been a major effort to change the narrative surrounding Black youth and literacy. A group of fifth-graders at the Truesdell Education Campus in Washington, D.C. launched a book club after a Black student shared that he struggled with reading because he didn’t see himself reflected in the characters of the books that he was given. Barack Obama Lands Spot On Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs Chart

F ormer President Barack Obama has always been big on music. Throughout his presidency, he’s shared with us the songs that he keeps in heavy rotation. Let us not forget that time he made an appearance at the Apollo Theater and sang some of Al Green ’s song “Let’s Stay Together.” Obama has now taken his love for music to new heights. According to USA Today , his recent collaboration with Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda has landed him a spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. The track features Obama, singer BeBe Winans , and Hamilton actor Christopher Jackson . On the song—which is about former President George Washington leaving his presidential seat—Obama recites Washington’s farewell address. “I anticipate with pleasing expectation that retreat in which I promise myself to realize, without alloy, the sweet enjoyment of partaking, in the midst of my fellow-citizens, the benign influence of good laws under a free government, the ever-favorite object of my heart, and the happy reward, as I trust, of our mutual cares, labors, and dangers,” says Obama. The song is a part of Miranda’s project Hamildrops which puts a spin on different songs from the musical. He launched the project last year and some of the proceeds are given to different nonprofit organizations. Obama has been a long-time supporter of the Hamilton movement. He took his family to see the show on Broadway and in 2016 the cast performed at the White House. His Billboard accomplishment comes just weeks after he shared his favorite songs of 2018 list which included music from The Carters , Leon Bridges , J. Cole , Cardi B , Janelle Monae , and others. Art Project To Highlight Black History And Culture In Los Angeles

A new art project on the West Coast will visually capture the essence of Black history and culture in Los Angeles. Local political officials recently announced that 1.3 miles of Crenshaw Boulevard will be transformed into an artistic space that highlights how African Americans are embedded in the fabric of L.A., the LAist reported. It will feature larger-than-life murals, monuments, outdoor spaces and other elements that will bring stories about the Black experience in Los Angeles to life. Local political leaders believed that it was important to bring the achievements of the Black community in L.A. to the forefront. The city has evolved into a melting pot and they don’t want the contributions of African Americans to be forgotten. “The hope is that [people] understand that L.A., among other things, is quintessentially a Black city,” Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson told the news outlet. “In the same way that it’s a Latino city, in the same way it’s a Jewish city, in the same way that it’s a Japanese city. The stories of black people in this town are central to what this town is, and what it continues to develop into.” Harris-Dawson wanted to find a way to preserve the street art that already exists in Crenshaw, but add more elements to it so that it can serve as a learning tool for visitors and future generations. He also hopes that the buzz surrounding Destination Crenshaw will create an increase in more locally-owned innovative businesses in the area. The renderings for the project—which has been backed by Los Angeles natives Nipsey Hussle and Issa Rae —were revealed this month. The Destination Crenshaw team has already enlisted the help of local artists to contribute their work. The project will break ground in 2019 and is slated to be completed in 2020. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. So let’s get started, shall we? This week DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius do a deep dive into Jennifer Lopez’s new movie, Second Act , which hit theaters on December 21, 2018 and is directed by Peter Segal. The film is about Jennifer’s character, Maya Vargas, who is a Value Shop assistant manager and desperately wants a promotion for her 43rd birthday. With the help of her friend Zoe, played by Vanessa Hudgens, Maya Vargas enhances her less than stellar resume to match her street smarts and reinvents her life and her life-story for the job of her dreams. The film got a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes and The New York Times said that “Jennifer Lopez Deserves Better” but what does Global Grind think? Franchise and Landon dig into the movie and surprisingly when it comes to J. Lo’s acting, they’re actually impressed by her skill.  As far as her ability to act and portray a homely, minimum wage worker turned high level exec, Jennifer Lopez was able to execute the role flawlessly. DJ Franchise had a few things about the film that he wasn’t in love with. One of which was what he called the “Disney fee”, which you likely will get from most romantic comedies. He also feels that the film would have been even better if Jenny was actually from the block. Otherwise, according to our resident bully DJ Franchise, Second Act wasn’t half bad. Our two in house critics give their own review and drop a rating. Should you see  Second Act ? Hit play and we’ll let you know. Then, Franchise and Landon share their favorite all time holiday movie classics. Some are a little more “Christmasy” than others and at one point it gets a little awkward. Leah’s Lemonade: Ty Dolla $ign Indicted On Drug Charges in Georgia

Ty Dolla $ign is in some legal hot water. The singer might be going to “prison prison” after being indicted on multiple felony drug charges. The singer was indicted with three counts, Possession of cocaine, possession of THC, and possession of marijuana. The Paranoid singer could face up to 15 years in prison for the charges. He was pulled over earlier this year in in Fulton County, GA  where drug laws are way stiffer than Cali. One of the singer’s reps told TMZ…”[Ty] understands from his attorney Steve Sadow that the indictment in Fulton County, Georgia is merely the next mandatory procedural step in the process of resolving Ty’s case in that particular criminal justice system, and one more step closer to finally bringing this matter to a close. It was expected by Ty’s legal counsel and came as no surprise whatsoever.” The rep added, “Ty maintains his innocence and there is no indication to the contrary. Praise! Chance The Rapper Going On Sabbatical To ‘Learn The Word Of God’

The Grammy winner announced on Instagram that he will be taking a break from music to better learn the “world of God.” “I’m on a plane headed out the country on my first sabbatical. I’m going away to learn the Word of God, which I am admittedly very unfamiliar with,” the 25-year-old wrote earlier last weekend. “I’ve been brought up by my family to know Christ, but I haven’t taken it upon myself to really just take a couple days and read my Bible.” In addition, he added that he hasn’t always made religion a priority in his life, something he wants to remedy in the next 365 days, thanks to his newborn nephew Charlie Matthew. “I’m definitely guilty of not devoting time to [the Bible.] So I’m off to read and learn because the next generation of Bennett is here and I need to be able to give my nephew Charlie Matthew the knowledge and tools to F–K YALL UP.” Concluding, “But seriously he’s the first boy of the next line and he needs his uncle to be educated.So don’t bother me. I’ll be back soon enough, with five or more books from Bible read.” His Instagram post is also accompanied by a picture of the Chicago-native holding the baby boy in his arms. Take a look: It seems like Chance’s devotion is for real. As the Huff Post pointed out , the rapper’s next social media post was a picture of a page from a Christian devotional he was reading.   It’s no secret that Chance has a special relationship with God , but what is a secret is just how long this sabbatical will be.
