Alice In Chains, Deftones, Mastodon Hit Road On Blackdiamondskye Tour

‘We’re really looking forward to touring with our friends,’ says Alice in Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell. By James Montgomery Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell Photo: Barry Brecheisen/ WireImage After a week’s worth of mysterious YouTube clips and countdown clocks , it’s officially time to make the announcement: This fall, Alice in Chains , Deftones and Mastodon , three of the heaviest and most influential bands in the business, will join forces for a tour of epic proportions. Dubbed “Blackdiamondskye” (an amalgamation of AIC’s Black Gives Way to Blue, Deftones’ upcoming Diamond Eyes and Mastodon’s Crack the Skye album titles), the trek will kick off September 16 in Chicago and will pummel cities across the U.S. and Canada, before coming to a close on October 16 in Las Vegas. According to a statement from tour organizers Live Nation, additional dates will be announced shortly. Tickets will go on sale in select markets beginning May 15 at Blackdiamondskye.com and LiveNation.com . Fan-club presales begin on May 10. For more information, check out the tour’s official site. And after spending all that time building up the mystery, both organizers and the bands are raring to unleash this beast on their legions of fans. “We’re really looking forward to touring with our friends, Deftones and Mastodon,” Alice in Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell said in a statement. “Each band has its own unique flavor and the combination of all three will make for a great show and a good time on the road.” Blackdiamondskye Tour dates are as follows:

Cobie Smulders on How I Met Your Mother, Reprising Robin Sparkles and On-Set Jam Sessions

She may not be a former Canadian pop star in real life, but Cobie Smulders plays one on TV. As Robin Scherbatsky on CBS’ s Emmy-winning How I Met Your Mother , the Vancouver-born actress plays a morning-news anchor who dabbled in bubblegum pop music in the early ’80s under the stage name Robin Sparkles. And while Robin’s clique of thirtysomething friends — played by Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan — have only uncovered two recordings to date, the music videos have been so popular that they have inspired dozens of fan parodies on YouTube. Aside from being a former pop star though, Smulders’ character is also the show’s consummate bachelorette who just this season won the heart of Neil Patrick Harris’ comically machismo bachelor. As How I Met Your Mother ‘s fifth season winds down, Cobie Smulders caught Movieline up on her character’s lost variety show with Alan Thicke, the scenes she hated filming this season and her favorite guest star to date. [ Spoilerphobes beware: Smulders revealed a few mild plot twists ahead in the series’ fifth season. ]

Rapper J-Kwon Is Alive And Well

‘Tipsy’ rapper hadn’t been heard from in a month, prompting his record label to search for him. By Shaheem Reid J-Kwon Photo: Scott Gries/ Getty Images J-Kwon is alive and well, according to his manager and publicist. On Wednesday, we reported that his friends, family and business associates were highly concerned because no one had been able to reach the St. Louis-born rapper for about a month. His record label, Gracie Productions, even set up the Twitter page @WhereIsJKwon so fans could write in with any info they had. A few of Kwon’s business associates were even going door to door Wednesday in hopes of locating their missing friend. The 24-year-old must have seen the news, because he reached out to his loved ones. According to his rep, the rapper sent his apologies to anyone he worried. Kwon’s manager and co-CEO of Gracie, Dorian Washington, issued a statement Thursday afternoon (March 4): “I am very happy to let everyone know that I personally spoke with J-Kwon today, and he is OK. He’d like to send a sincere apology to his friends and everyone who showed concern this week. He was taking some time to himself as he sometimes does, not realizing that people would start to worry after a while. A few days out of touch versus a month is quite a difference. Right now, he just wants to keep doing what he’s doing and will be more available for those who care about him. We thank you again for your outreach, and we are relieved to know he’ll be all right.” J-Kwon rocketed into the rap game in 2004 with the club hit “Tipsy.” He is scheduled to release a self-titled album at the end of the month. Kelly Clarkson Added To Lilith Fair Lineup

‘American Idol’ alum will join Ke$ha, Tegan and Sara, festival founder Sarah McLachlan and more. By Jocelyn Vena Kelly Clarkson Photo: RCA Kelly Clarkson will soon take her pop anthems on the road as the latest artist to join the Lilith Fair. It was announced on Thursday (March 4) that Clarkson, The Bangles, The Go-Go’s, Dixie Chicks’ Emily Robison and Martie Maguire’s side project the Courtyard Hounds, Martina McBride and Suzanne Vega will be the latest ladies hitting the road for the female-focused festival. They join previously announced acts like festival founder Sarah McLachlan as well as Ke$ha, Colbie Caillat, Tegan and Sara, Corinne Bailey Rae, Erykah Badu, Emmylou Harris, Metric, Jill Scott, La Roux and Loretta Lynn, to name a few. Although the name Lilith Fair conjures up visions of folk singers, pop star Ke$ha said that she’s bringing her own glittery vibe to the mix with raucous pop anthems like “Tik Tok” and “Blah Blah Blah.” “I think it’s cool,” Ke$ha told MTV News about being included on the tour. “I definitely will bring the glitter and I think I can also bring a youthful fun, like a strong woman but in just a kind of a fun way, to Lilith.” So what does she think made her the perfect candidate for the tour? Her girl power, obviously. “I think I’m on Lilith because it’s famous for standing for women and strong women and I’m really excited and honored to be in that group and classified as a strong female woman,” she explained. “I’m really excited to be included in that its kind of a big deal. It’s scary now that we’re talking about it.” No dates have been announced yet, but the following cities have been announced as stops on the tour: Atlanta, Austin, Birmingham, Boston, Calgary, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Edmonton, Hartford, Houston, Indianapolis, London, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Montreal, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington, D.C. and West Palm Beach, Florida.
