Laurieann Gibson Says ‘The Dance Scene’ Is Not Just A Dance Show

Lady Gaga’s creative director says her E! series shows ‘the evolution of a dream.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Laurieann Gibson Photo: MTV News Laurieann Gibson is a creative director and choreographer whose client list includes names like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Natalia Kills, Nicki Minaj, Diddy (and Dirty Money), Alicia Keys and Keri Hilson, to name only a few. She’s already had a movie based on her life (Jessica Alba played a Laurieann-like character in “Honey”) and appeared on various TV shows like “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Making the Band,” “Skating With the Stars.” And, of course, she was a Fly Girl alongside J.Lo on “In Living Color.” What’s left on her to-do list? Well, next she’ll be providing a peek into the world of dancing on her new E! show, “The Dance Scene,” which premieres Sunday at 10:30 p.m. ET. ” ‘The Dance Scene’ is basically the most amazing dance show in the world,” she humbly told MTV News. “And it follows me as a creative director. You see how I maintain that creativity.” The show follows Laurieann and her team of dancers and choreographers at Boom Kack studios as they audition, rehearse, choreograph and perform visuals for major events, such as “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” and music videos. It also gives an inside look at the personal lives of the dancers and their ever-present struggle to balance work and life while living up to Gibson’s very high expectations. With her high-profile clients and a truly competitive spirit, Gibson said she really wasn’t nervous about having the cameras following her around for the show. “I wasn’t hesitant because I’m built out of a truthful place,” she said. “The only thing that I have is the truth, so the only thing I fear is a lie. I wasn’t afraid of being truthful, and I just want them to know how great they can be, and I wanted to lift the veil.” So, what should we expect from the show’s first episode? “Sunday’s premiere is quite exciting,” Gibson teased. “I saw the premiere, and I cried. I cried ’cause I was so grateful that [executive producer] Ryan [Seacrest] was not afraid to show me in all of a positive … all of the power that my gift has, and no one’s ever been brave enough to be like, ‘Yes, you are capable.’ And he just let it be, so I just cried. “And we’re at the opening of ‘Divas Live’ with four divas [including Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Keri Hilson],” she continued. “It’s just everything that’s going to happen on this season: It’s power packed; it’s an incredible show. It’s not just another corny dance show. It isn’t. It’s not even really a dance show. It’s the life of a dancer and the transition and the evolution of a dream.”

Jake Gyllenhaal Channels John McEnroe For Vampire Weekend Video

‘I basically changed into a tennis outfit, and I got down,’ he tells MTV News of ‘Giving Up the Gun’ cameo. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Jake Gyllenhaal Photo: MTV News Vampire Weekend’s “Giving Up the Gun” video is a smorgasbord of thoroughly WTF cameos — everyone from Joe Jonas to Lil Jon shows up at one point or another — but perhaps no guest star is as perplexing as Jake Gyllenhaal. After all, with a relatively huge summer movie to promote (the swords-n-sandals epic “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” ), you’d think he’d have better things to do with his time. Turns out, nothing could be further from the truth. “That was just amazing, because I love that band, and I love their first album, and I had recently just got their second album,” Gyllenhaal told MTV News. “I got a call from the directors, who are friends of mine … and they were like, ‘We’re doing this thing, and we heard you’re a big fan of the band. We didn’t know if you wanted to come down.’ I was actually in San Francisco, and they were shooting it in Los Angeles, and they were like, ‘We’re shooting it this evening,’ so I said, ‘All right, I’m there.’ So I drove down from San Francisco to this soundstage in downtown L.A., and I basically changed into a tennis outfit, and I got down.” In the clip, Gyllenhaal plays a hard-swinging, even harder-boozing tennis pro, a role that, surprisingly, wasn’t that much of a stretch for the Oscar-nominated actor. “Well, that’s the only way anyone’s going to beat me, if I’m that wasted,” he joked. “They call me, like, the John McEnroe of action films.” And though, yes, he does have a film to promote, Gyllenhaal said he’d drop everything if the guys from Vampire Weekend came calling again. Just as long as “Gun” co-stars Jonas, Jon and the RZA are involved. After all, he’s old pals with all of them. “It was really fun. I met the band and hung out with them. They’re all really cool guys … and the Jonas Brothers, the RZA and Lil Jon, we all usually chill anyway,” he laughed. “Actually, we were up in San Francisco, and I was like, ‘You guys, do you want to come down with me?’ And Lil Jon was like, ‘I’m busy,’ and I was like, ‘Come on, man, get in the car!’ So we all chilled out, listened to the whole album, and the RZA was dope. He was great. He sat shotgun, because that’s where he likes to sit usually. … We all hang out because we’re all really good friends.” What did you think of the cameos in the Vampire Weekend video? Let us know in the comments!

Some Bitch from The Saturdays in a See Through Shirt of the Day

Her name is Vanessa White, not to be confused with Vanna White, the Gameshow model who must be in her 90s, and the funny thing is that she’s not even white, that’d be like my name being Rich Classy, or Rock N. Muscles or some other thing that couldn’t be further than the truth, cuz she’s actually Black Filipina, but she is in some contrived, corporate creation called The Saturdays that produce real shit fucking music in the UK that is sung by girls I want to fuck, the way pop music is supposed to be, before trash like Gaga brought the boring lives of Americans everywhere some minor level of excitement with how freaky she was…none of that excitement being sexual excitement…. Either way, here she is in a see thru shirt. Boring? I know. Pics via PacificCoastNews
