Pitbull Goes ‘Back In Time’ On ‘Men In Black’ Video Set

Mr. Worldwide walks MTV News through his ‘Back in Time’ music video set. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Pitbull on the set of his music video for “Men In Black 3” Photo: MTV News Not only does the “Men in Black” movie franchise boast great acting and stunning visual effects, each of the three films features a pretty kicking soundtrack as well. For “Men in Black 3,” which hits theaters May 25, Pitbull contributes the lead single, “Back in Time.” MTV News caught up with Mr. Worldwide on the Los Angeles set of the “Back in Time” video and he gave us a pretty cool walk-through. “What we’re doing here, to sum it up in layman’s terms, is making history,” Pit said. “The concept is basically all about the movie. The slogan for the movie is ‘Back in Time.’ In the record I say, ‘In order to understand the future we have to go back in time.’ ” The clip not only features “MIB3” movie scenes, it was actually filmed on the movie set, blending the Miami rapper’s performance shots seamlessly into Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ action shots. “As far as the sets that you see right now, it’s just integrating and running parallel with everything that you see in the movie,” Pitbull explained. It was the Fresh Prince himself who recorded the theme songs — 1997’s “Men in Black” and 2002’s “Black Suits Comin’ ” — for the first two installments of the “MIB” trilogy. For the upcoming flick, Pit took over and used a sample of Mickey and Sylvia’s 1950s classic “Love Is Strange” for inspiration. Now that he’s clocked his first collaboration with Big Willie, Pitbull hopes that they can work together some more. “I would love to follow in Will Smith’s footsteps,” he said. “We’re working on the music for the movie, and hopefully, one day, we’ll work in a movie together.” What do you think of Pitbull’s “Back in Time” video? Justin Bieber Hopes To ‘Gain Respect’ With Believe

‘It’s really exciting for me, ’cause I’m able to break out of my shell,’ Bieber tells MTV News about his next album. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Justin Bieber Photo: WireImage With Justin Bieber expected to drop Believe later this year, he’s also hoping to expand his fanbase. Of course his first priority is to make his fans happy, but he’d also like to prove to any haters out there that he’s more than just a tween dream; he’s a certifiable pop star who can make music that appeals to all demographics. “You can’t really expect anything from my album. It’s really, really different,” he told MTV News. “And it’s new; it’s not the same thing everyone’s used to hearing right now on the radio. It’s really exciting for me, ’cause I’m able to break out of my shell and show my fans what I’m all about and show other people who might not like my music that maybe they can like my music. “I’m not trying to lose any of my young fans,” he continued. “I’m not trying to lose any of my fans, I’m just trying to gain fans, and I think that’s the best way to do it. Rather than try to grow up and lose your fans, you can get better and evolve and gain respect from more people.” Bieber is slated to drop the album’s first single, “Boyfriend,” on March 26, and he said it will certainly please his most devoted fans. “This new album is crazy. I’ve spent the most time on it creatively, just writing myself and being involved in the whole process. It’s something that comes from my heart,” he explained of the 2012 release. “I hope all my fans and all my Beliebers like it. With my new album, Believe, there’s so many different songs and so many different styles. It’s really versatile and fun. My first single is going to be amazing — everyone’s going to love it.” And while it’s still a ways off, Bieber confirmed he will take the album on the road. “I don’t know if it’ll be called the Believe Tour,” he said. “I don’t know yet, I really have no clue. But there will be a tour for my album, Believe. 100 percent. And I will be on the road, hanging out.” What are you expecting from Bieber’s next project? Let us know in the comments! Chris Brown Directing ‘Slight Work’ A ‘Secret Weapon,’ Wale Says

‘This is my last video directed by Chris Brown; we can’t afford it after today,’ Ambition MC tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Big Sean and Wale Photo: MTV News These days, getting Chris Brown to sing or rap on your song will most likely yield positive gains on the charts. But getting him to direct your music video — who knows what the end result will be? Brown doesn’t have much of a track record behind the lens, but when it came time to choose a director for his and Big Sean ‘s “Slight Work” video, Wale decided to give his chart-topping buddy a shot. “I really wanted to do something special amongst the young guys,” Wale told MTV News while on set in Huntington Park, California, last week. “It means so much to me, as far as the genre goes and the preservation of the genre, for us to keep giving back to each other and keep working with each other and make beautiful music and do important things for our culture.” Brown has long established himself among music’s most prolific artists with his catchy songs, stunning videos and unbelievable dance routines. Breezy has branched out as an actor (2007’s “Stomp the Yard,” “This Christmas” and 2010’s “Takers”), and now he’s branching out even further. “Me reaching out to Chris is bigger than me reaching out to a homeboy, it’s me reaching out to an aspiring director,” Wale explained. “I think a lot of people put a lot of us into one box and don’t know we have other passions. I wasn’t surprised, a guy that creative and that talented, I’m sure he has other things that he wants to do.” Big Sean had much success working with CB on his 2010 #1 Billboard rap single, “My Last,” but when he found out Brown was directing this clip, he scratched his head a bit. “At first I was kinda skeptical,” Sean said. “Then I saw it and was blown away.” Wale is pretty confident in the end result, predicting that after “Slight Work” premieres, Brown will become a sought-after music video director. “My secret weapon is gone,” he joked. “This is my last video directed by Chris Brown; we can’t afford it after today.” How do you think Chris will fare as a music video director? Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Tour Will Be ‘Exaggerated’

Producer Fernando Garibay tells fans to ‘use your imagination’ for Mother Monster’s upcoming tour. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias and Vanessa WhiteWolf Lady Gaga Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage When Lady Gaga released Born This Way earlier this year, she had just wrapped up the Monster Ball Tour . Now, with 2011 coming to an end, it’s only a matter of time before she launches her next stage spectacle. So what should fans expect? Anything and everything. “This album was the most personal [because of] the amount of detail that went into this record, the amount of passion [and] emotion from her and the team,” Fernando Garibay, Gaga’s producer, told MTV News last week. “Every song was a story towards the Born This Way theme. We’re excited now, putting that into the tour and expressing that on a live performance level. “You can imagine what happened on the Monster Ball, so use your imagination,” he said. “That’s what’s going to happen, exaggerated.” For now, Gaga is playing radio shows — smaller shows like KIIS-FM’s Jingle Ball in Los Angeles, which she headlined last weekend. “I would love to go out there and do my entire new album, but everyone out there wants to hear the songs that [radio] has made hits for me over the years,” she told us backstage at Jingle Ball. “So I wanted to honor the radio station as well as the fans tonight and give them a little bit of my new record, but also all the songs from the past three years.” She explained to MTV News that these mini-gigs are a good tease of what fans will see on the Born This Way trek. Gaga’s recent performances have been pop shows full of spectacle, including bouncy, hospital-themed dance numbers (an homage to the “Marry the Night” video ) and dedications to metal culture with gang-inspired fashion that certainly reflects the looks she wore on parts of the Monster Ball Tour. But they are on such a smaller scale that Gaga admitted she couldn’t do everything she wanted to do. “I couldn’t fit my Olympic-size moon onto [the] stage,” she laughed. “It’s going to have the feeling of it in some ways. It’s hard to explain. It’s very different aesthetics. But the vision of the show tonight is sort of a continuation of this junkyard motorcycle gang mixed with a dark Christmas. I’m excited; we worked really hard on it.” In addition to beginning to conceive the Born This Way Tour , Gaga just dropped her “Marry The Night” video , is up for three Grammys and is beginning to work on her next album . Justin Bieber Graduates To ‘Adult Game’ On New Album

‘We’ve seen him [with] ‘Baby,’ now we’re watching him grow up,’ producer Kuk Harrell tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Justin Bieber has said that he wants to pull a Justin Timberlake on his next album. So what exactly does that mean? His longtime vocal producer, Kuk Harrell, spoke to MTV News about the early stages of Bieber’s next release. “The only conversation we’ve had about Justin’s album that we’re about to do is it’s really important that it’s the proper transition because we’ve seen him [with] ‘Baby,’ now we’re watching him grow up,” said Harrell, who has also worked with Rihanna on her Talk That Talk record. “And we can’t just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There’s a record in between.” With further details on this next album being kept under wraps, Bieber is busy celebrating the holidays. He’s slated to release his video for “All I Want for Christmas,” co-starring Mariah Carey, on Wednesday. Harrell worked with Bieber on his Under the Mistletoe LP and says agreeing to do a Christmas album with the teen phenomenon was an easy yes. “That’s why I think this Christmas album was really important because it gave everybody the opportunity to hear him, see him and get used to his voice changing,” he said. “That was a huge thing going into this album. We were able to get a running start on where he’s at vocally ’cause it’s a natural thing. When his proper album comes out, everybody’s going to really be looking at that.” What will be noticeably different on this next album, which was teased on his holiday album, is that Bieber’s voice will be much deeper. So does Harrell think it’ll be changing a lot more for this next record? “I think he’s pretty good right now,” he said. “It’s just a matter of him settling [into] where he is.” Regardless of what magic does end up making the final cut on this album, which Bieber has said may include work from Drake and Kanye West , Harrell notes that the 17-year-old is “always willing to bring a new fire.” Related Artists Justin Bieber

Rihanna’s Talk That Talk Is ‘Edgy And Passionate’

‘She’s at a place right now where her voice just sounds incredible,’ vocal producer Kuk Harrell tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Rihanna Photo: Getty Images Rihanna is pretty feisty on Talk That Talk. The pop star sings quite candidly about what she likes (and doesn’t like) between the sheets on the new album, which relies heavily on dance and house influences. During her Loud Tour, Rihanna hooked up with frequent vocal producer Kuk Harrell and found her voice for the just-released album. “They scheduled me to go out to Europe and start recording. It’s an amazing process, working with her while she’s on the road. It’s great to see how she does a show every single night [and then records],” he told MTV News, before adding that, “Sure enough at 2, 3 o’clock in the morning, I get the call: She’s on her way.” Making Talk That Talk was a brisk process. “We were in the studio probably like three weeks total,” he recalled. When it came to the album’s sound, Rihanna and Harrell — as well as producers like The-Dream, Bangladesh, Calvin Harris and Dr. Luke — concocted a mixture of emotions and sounds to define the record. “At points, it’s a combination of edgy and passionate at the same time, and when you listen to the album, it’s just like Loud, ” he explained. “She’s at a place right now where her voice just sounds incredible, and she’s such a great presence.” Rihanna has certainly experimented with dance music in the past, especially on tracks like “Only Girl (In the World),” but she went deep into the genre on this album. It didn’t change the way Harrell and Ri worked together very much, the producer said. “It doesn’t change anything for me. … The goal is always getting the best performance out of her,” he explained. “So it’s just a matter of making sure we capture the vibe of the record. If it’s up and moving, we gotta make sure her performance matches that. “She’s definitely ready to do it, but there are times throughout the whole process I do have to — I’m not coaching her, I’m just producing how to get this performance,” he continued. “When she sings a line, if I don’t think it matches the intensity of the lyric, then I’ll go ‘Man, push a little harder.’ ” Rihanna seems to be pushing herself these days too. She just revealed on Twitter that she’s set to work on her second Talk That Talk video, for the track “You Da One.” “I can’t stop listening to #YouDaOne … So addictive!!!!” she tweeted. “Maybe because we shooting the vid soon! Workin on treatment all now….” Have you checked out Rihanna’s latest album yet? Share your reviews in the comments!

Britney Spears Boyfriend’s ‘Criminal’ Role ‘A Challenge’

Chris Marrs Piliero opens up to MTV News about working with non-actor Jason Trawick in new video. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Jason Trawick and Britney Spears in “Criminal” Photo: Jive Britney Spears certainly had everyone talking when she dropped her steamy “Criminal” video . Sure, fans were talking about the sex and gunplay, but they were also going bananas over the appearance of Brit’s real-life boyfriend, Jason Trawick, who plays her criminally handsome beau in the clip. The idea to include Trawick in the video was all Britney’s, but director Chris Marrs Piliero wasn’t sure he was so into it. “When she first hit me up, she had a basic story in mind, and she actually always originally planned to have Jason, her boyfriend, play the role, and I wasn’t super stoked on that idea at first, actually,” he told MTV News. Most of his reservations were because Trawick isn’t a professional actor and he wasn’t sure his rookie acting skills would translate well in the mini-movie. “I wanted to make a really rad, epic video, and I definitely got the sense from her she wanted something really cool,” he explained. “And in my mind, I was just thinking then, ‘We really should not be using your boyfriend; we should get an actor.’ So, I mean, I didn’t say that, but in the back of my mind, I’m like, ‘I don’t like this idea at all.’ ” Trawick and his abs, however, managed to impress Piliero — and Britney loyalists everywhere. “At the end of the day, Jason killed it. That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, ‘Wow, he’s not an actor. This is going to be interesting,’ but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I’m a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, ‘I’m gonna make sure that you are awesome,’ and he was.” Piliero also worked with Spears on her video for “I Wanna Go,” and he was once again dazzled by her sassy acting skills. “Of course, Britney was rad,” he said. “She does a good job at nailing and doing the little acting thing. She’s cool at it.” What did you think of the “Criminal” video? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Britney Spears

Taylor Lautner Has ‘Swag’ In ‘Abduction,’ Director Says

‘They’re gonna see a whole different Taylor Lautner from what Jacob is in the ‘Twilight’ pictures,’ John Singleton promises. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Taylor Lautner in “Abduction” Photo: Lionsgate Taylor Lautner will surprise people in his forthcoming film “Abduction,” according to John Singleton. The renowned director says that Lautner has abandoned his onscreen “Twilight” werewolf alter ego to play a butt-kicking teen in the film, due out in September. “I put him through his paces and I can say this to the MTV audience: They’re gonna see a whole different Taylor Lautner from what Jacob is in the ‘Twilight’ pictures,” Singleton told MTV News. “My goal as a director was to work with him as an actor, for him to have something that’s a different character.” So, what did Singleton draw out of his actor? Singleton said he wanted Lautner’s character to be “strong and charismatic. I’ve done some stuff that I’m sure all the young ladies will really love … and it’s beyond taking his shirt off. It’s about him having a different kind of swag than he does as Jacob. In this movie, he’s Nathan Harper and he’s a kickass dude in this movie.” The director explained that while Lautner plays tough in the flick, he was quite the softie on set, taking the time out to thank his fans for stopping by to watch him in action. “Taylor’s the most famous actor I’ve ever worked with in my whole career,” Singleton said. “When we were shooting this movie, we had 500 to 600 girls and their mothers off the set, trying to get on the set, trying to be around, which was cool.” Singleton said that the star handled all the attention like the seasoned pro that he is. “It was really funny because, you know, after we worked all these hours, he’d go out and he’d graciously shake peoples’ hands and sign autographs,” he said. “He’s phenomenal. I call him a trooper; he’s a real soldier.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Abduction.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Heidi Montag Teases ‘Shocking Alliances’ On ‘Famous Food’

‘I’m like, ‘OK, let’s keep it professional!’ ‘ the ‘Hills’ alum recalls thinking on her new VH1 show. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Heidi Montag Photo: MTV News On Sunday night, Heidi Montag made her return to the reality TV world on VH1’s latest entry into the genre, “Famous Food.” On the show, Montag competes against other celebrities to open up a restaurant in Los Angeles that would be called, as the title says, Famous Food. The show’s cast includes famed call girl Ashley Dupre, Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul and Juicy J, “The Bachelor” star Jake Pavelka, “Sopranos” actor Vincent Pastore and feisty “Real Housewives of New Jersey” alum Danielle Staub. What may surprise viewers, though, is which of the celebs end up becoming friends … and then some. “There were some shocking alliances, a little too close for some people,” Montag dished to MTV News. “I’m like, ‘OK, let’s keep it professional!’ And really just people I would never expect [to make alliances, did].” Of course, that might sound like a pretty shocking statement coming from Montag, who while on MTV’s “The Hills” married Spencer Pratt , the hit reality show’s biggest bad guy. But that’s all history. These days, Heidi’s focused on showing fans her business savvy. “It was really important for me and very exciting to win a potential partnership at the end of the show,” she said of wanting to take the prize, which is a stake in the restaurant. “I’m very excited to be a part of the show,” she added. “And I knew it was going to be a great experience and something different, very different from anything I’ve ever done.” Did you catch “Famous Food”?
