It feels like it was just yesterday (probably because that’s the last time we pumped the pickle to them), but it’s been 28 years since Vanessa Williams gave up her Miss America crown. For all you young’uns out there, Vanessa was not always a TV actress. She started her career as a beauty queen, and in September 1983 she was voted the first African-American Miss America in the history of the pageant. But her reign as America’s Sweetheart was short-lived, and on July 23, 1984 she was stripped of her crown after pics of Vanessa posing solo and Sapphically stripping off with another model were published in Penthouse. This was, of course, long before it became de rigeur for every up-and-coming starlet with a taste for fame to “leak” her own sex tape (we’re looking at you, Kim Kardashian ), and the nude pics were truly shocking at the time…shocking to the tune of $14 million in magazine sales. During an appearance this week with Anderson Cooper on his talk show, the actress said of the aforementioned series: “When the child is screaming and saying, ‘I don’t want to do this. I don’t feel like doing it.’ When they are using special juice to get them hyped… that’s not my world and I would never have my kids do that.” Cue a reaction from Wendy Dickey, the mother of Paisley, a controversial member of the Toddlers & Tiaras cast who has dressed like a hooker and like a biker girl for segments on the show. “Posing nude and having an abortion is ‘not my world’ and I would never have my kids do that,” Wendy said, referring to Vanessa’s Playboy past and her recent admission that she aborted a fetus in high school. “So easy on the judging Vanessa!” The claws are out and it’s getting personal on both sides. Vanessa Williams is finally cleaning out her closet Vanessa Williams Reveals Abusive Sexual Past In Nightline Interview Having opened up earlier this month about the sexual abuse she suffered as a 10-year-old, Vanessa Williams is now revealing her heartbreaking secret high school pregnancy that ended in abortion. “Being pregnant is the most frightening thing that happens in your life,” revealed the 49-year-old Desperate Housewives star during an interview with ABC’s Nightline. “I knew in high school that’s something that I was not prepared to do, or fight, or struggle with.” The actress claims her early sexual awakening was a direct response to the molestation she suffered at the hands of a female family friend, as RadarOnline.com previously reported. “I think I was highly sexualized because I was in fifth grade and I had this experience,” she explained. “Because it feels good, you’re like, OK, well this is supposed to be normal. That’s not normal for a 10-year-old to be seduced.” While appearing on Nightline with her mom, Helen Williams, Vanessa revealed how she had aborted her baby as a teen because she was too scared to tell her parents about her fall from grace. Now a mother of four, the Ugly Betty star remained close-lipped about the abuse for many years, but she’s now sharing her sad secret in her upcoming memoir, You Have No Idea. In the book, Vanessa also tells-all about the infamous photoshoot that cost her the Miss America tiara. “I started out on top of a cab and ended up in a studded collar upstairs an hour later,” Williams said. “That was my joke, saying, you know, ‘How could I go from this trusting, you know, photo shoot, to being in S&M clothing within the same shoot with a guy I didn’t know.’” Ultimately, the snapper didn’t keep his word, and Vanessa was catapulted from the stage of Miss America to the pages of Penthouse, leading to a sex scandal that cost the beauty queen her crown. “I’ve learned to embrace my past. Desperate Housewives star Vanessa Williams is bravely and surprisingly opening up about sexual abuse she endured as a 10-year-old at the hands of a teenage girl. In a revealing interview in the new issue of People , Williams says the incident occurred when she was staying with family friends and their 18-year-old daughter. The 18-year-old entered her room and “pulled down the bloomers of my cotton baby doll pajamas,” said Vanessa. “I lay there paralyzed. What was I going to do?” Williams remained close-lipped about the sexual abuse for many years, but is now sharing her secret in her upcoming memoir, fittingly titled You Have No Idea . Despite the childhood trauma, the former Miss America said it didn’t emotionally scar her for life – however, there were long-lasting, indirect consequences. “It didn’t paralyze me, and I don’t dwell,” she explained, although it did cause her to act more rebellious and “pull away” from her parents as a youngster.
