Dancing With the Stars Results: Who Survived Week 5?

Who advanced to the final eight on Dancing With the Stars? After performances by Selena Gomez’s bindi , and The Band Perry, and a terrific opening number arranged by Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, it was time for the results. Who did not survive the fifth week on the ABC hit? Given Monday night’s scores, the three celebrities in danger this evening pretty much made sense – Victor Ortiz, Ingo Rademacher and D.L. Hughley. The contestant leaving the ballroom this week is … D.L. Hughley. He had a good run though, right? The comedian had been near the bottom of the pack all season, so it was little surprise that his luck finally ran out. Still, sad to see him go for sure. Victor and Ingo, you’re on notice next week! What do you think: The right call?   Yes. It was his time. No! Someone else! View Poll »

Dancing With the Stars Results: Who’s the First One Out?

After the standard Week One reprieve, it’s elimination time. Dancing With the Stars’ 17th season has assembled a nice blend of reality stars, singers, actors and sports stars young and old (it’s also sparked an age limit controversy ). One man occupied 12th place all by himself after two routines, but with four peeps in second-to-last, we all know anything can happen on the results show. With that said, let’s get down to the results, shall we? The dancer heading exiting stage right this week is … Dorothy Hamill!! Wait … what?! It was shocking enough when Victor Ortiz and Lisa Vanderpump were named the bottom two. But just before one was dismissed, Tom Bergeron brought out Dorothy. “I’ve taken the advice of my spine surgeon and I need to withdraw from the competition. I have an injury that could be irreparable,” Hamill told the crowd. “It would be completely unfair for me to stay in this and have any of these people go home. I wish that I could give it my all but I can’t. It’s been wonderful ride.” That means the bottom two couples, improbably are safe for another week. “All the 11 remaining couples will be back in the ballroom,” Tom said. Be well, Dorothy .

SMH: Fox News Hosts Make Fun Of 102-Year-Old Black Woman Who Waited 3 Hours To Vote

Faux News ain’t isht!!!!! Fox News Mocks 102-Year-Old’s Long Wait To Vote Via The Grio reports: Many Americans found the story of 102-year-old Desiline Victor to be heartwarming; the 102-year-old Miami woman, who was born in Haiti and labored as a farm worker before retiring, stood in line for hours waiting to vote last October, eliciting cheers when she finally emerged from the polling place with her “I voted” sticker. On Tuesday, she became the oldest person ever invited to attend the State of the Union. She was a guest of first lady Michelle Obama. However at Fox News, Desiline’s story was written off as a “non-issue.” On Fox News Radio’s Kilmeade & Friends, host Brian Kilmeade and Fox’s Martha MacCallum and Bill Hemmer laughed off the difficulties 102-year-old Desiline Victor endured in order to vote in the 2012 election. Victor, who was invited to the State of the Union address and whom President Obama applauded for enduring a long wait to vote, had to make two trips to the polls and wait in line for over three hours before she was able to cast her ballot. Discussing Victor, MacCallum wondered, “What’s the big deal?” and said, “This is such a non-issue. Ridiculous.” Hemmer added that at the State of the Union, “They held her up as a victim. What was she a victim of?” A non issue? Really??? Thank you, Desiline Victor for reminding us of where we’ve been and how far we must go to secure and exercise the right to vote in of all places, America. Is it any small wonder that Fox News have become such a laughing stock? Not really. These are the idiots who made fun of this incredible woman by the way…

You Can’t Be Serious: Argentine Woman Marries Man Convicted Of Killing Her Twin Sister On Valentine’s Day

What the hell?!? Woman Marries Man Convicted Of Killing Her Twin Sister Via HuffPo reports: This was a Valentine’s Day wedding that the bride’s family wanted no part of: An Argentine woman married the man convicted of killing her twin sister. Neighbors were against it as well. A mob gathered outside the civil registry office where Thursday’s wedding took place, throwing stones and eggs. Edith Casas says Victor Cingolani is innocent of killing her twin sister Johana two years ago, despite his conviction. He says he will be found innocent on appeal. Cingolani was taken back to prison in handcuffs immediately after the nuptials. She waited for hours until the crowd dispersed and it was safe to leave. The bride’s mother thinks she’s crazy and sought to block the wedding, but a judge found her capable of making her own decisions. Marrying a convicted murderer is not wise. Marrying the convicted murderer or your sister is just stupid.

WATCH: J.J. Abrams Discusses Storytelling, Developing ‘Portal’ & ‘Half-Life’ Movies With Valve President Gabe Newell

If you’re a gamer or a J.J. Abrams fan, then you already know that, in addition to the rebooting the Star Wars   franchise, his Bad Robot  production studio has teamed up with video game developer Valve to explore movies and games, including adaptations of the latter company’s popular Half-Life and Portal titles. The two men revealed they are teaming up at the end of their keynote presentation at the Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain (D.I.C.E.) summit in Las Vegas on Feb. 6. Their conversation is presented in its entirety after the jump and it’s worth watching, not so much because of the announcement, which is vague, but because the discussion is a fascinating master class on the differences between storytelling in movies and video games. If I’m grading this faux debate, I say Abrams emerges the victor. Not only does he make his points well, the Half-Life clips he uses to illustrate his point also demonstrate how mind-numbingly pedestrian dialogue in video games tends to be. Newell gets in a good line Abrams’ filmmaking aspirations. After the newly minted Star Wars Episode VII director shows how R2-D2 was digitally  inserted into a debris scene in the first Star Trek movie, the Valve chief says, “So now I have to go back through all of your movies looking at debris to figure out which movies you’re going to direct next? “ Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter .  Follow Movieline on Twitter .

What Would Jesus Do: Will The Resignation Of Pope Benedict XVI Lead To The Vatican Electing The First Black Pope?

Pope Benedict XVI is on his way out , does that mean this brother is next in line for the papalcy? Via NYDailyNews reports : With Pope Benedict XVI’s bombshell announcement Monday that he plans to step down, all eyes are on his potential successors, including one that may become the first black pope: Cardinal Peter Turkson. The Roman Catholic Cardinal from Ghana, the current president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, is among the leading candidates to assume the title of pontiff as it is rumored the Vatican may look outside Europe for its next leader. Turkson, 64, was born in Wassaw Nsuta in western Ghana on Oct. 11, 1948 to a Methodist mother and Catholic father. He entered the seminary as a child and moved to New York to study at St. Anthony-on-Hudson Seminary in Rensselaer before he was ordained as a priest in 1975. In October 1992, Pope John Paul II named Turkson the Archbishop of Cape Coast, the former capital of Ghana. Turkson served as president of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference from 1997 to 2005 and during that time, was appointed the first-ever cardinal from Ghana. “We love him,” Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle, metropolitan archbishop of Accra, the current capital of Ghana, told the Guardian. “For Ghanaians he was our first cardinal, and to be made cardinal in his 50s was a big feather in our cap.” In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Turkson the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, a high-profile position that sent him around the world for mediation talks. The position put Turkson near tthe top of the list of potential papal successors. Bookmaker Paddy Power has odds of Turkson becoming the pope at 3-1 — a prediction that is not entirely out of the blue for the cardinal, who acknowledged the possibility of a black pope in a press conference in 2009. “Why not?” Turkson said, arguing that when you agree to become a priest, you must be open to the idea of becoming a Pope. “All of that is part of the package.” Turkson added that the time was especially ripe given the election of President Barack Obama. “And now it is Obama of the United States,” he said. “And if by divine providence — because the church belongs to God — if God would wish to see a black man also as Pope, thanks be to God.” If elected, Turkson would also be the first non-European to serve since the Great Western Schism. Turkson would not be the first pope to hail from Africa. Some scholars believe that Victor I, who served from 189 to 199, was the first black pope, the Telegraph reported. Information from the time, however, is not conclusive. Turkson is not the only potential papal candidate outside of Europe. Other possible successors include Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria and Cardinal Mark Ouellet of Canada. SMH @ bookies taking bets on the papalcy. That ain’t very Christian of them. AP

To the victor go the spoils The Miami Heat Visit The White House Via Huffington Post President Barack Obama honored the Miami Heat for winning the 2012 NBA Championship title after falling short just a year before. “Everybody doing their part, is what finally put the Heat over the top,” Obama said, as he welcomed the team to the White House Monday to celebrate their victory. The Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games in the NBA Finals last June. The president also recognized the franchise’s work off the court. Stop The Violence: 49-Year-Old Pasadena Coach Gunned Down Outside His Home As He Walked Friend To Car On Christmas Day

A black man who raised two sons and mentored countless others, gunned down on his lawn on Christmas day. SMH. This is that bullisht for real. Only 49-years-old, McClinton grew up without a father, but thanks to the Pasadena sports program he created, hundreds of kids counted and depended on him. Via L.A. Times reports : At 11 o’clock on Christmas morning, 18-year law enforcement technician Victor McClinton was shot and killed outside his Pasadena home as he walked a holiday well-wisher and fellow coach to his car in the 1900 block of Newport Avenue. According to the Pasadena Police Department, McClinton was struck by gunfire meant for a former gang member who was in the vicinity but not associated with McClinton or the visiting coach. The target of the shooting, whom police identified as Damion Taylor, 24, was struck and wounded. “There’s no indication to believe McClinton was involved in any type of activity that would warrant anyone to shoot him,” said Deputy Chief Darryl Qualls. Friends and neighbors were still reeling from the news of McClinton’s death. “I was overwhelmed with shock and grief that such a selfless man could be taken,” said Glenn Crawford, 57, who coached in the Brotherhood Community Youth Sports League for 10 years. “It’s just senseless. He would literally take the shirt off his back for you.” On Wednesday, a small memorial of votive candles and flowers was arranged on the sidewalk in front of McClinton’s home. Theresa Overing said she stopped by to bring food and offer her support to the family. “Victor was one of the finest men, he stood taller than the rest,” she said. Overing, a Pasadena resident, said she got to know McClinton through the youth sports league he founded. Her three sons had played basketball there over the last 10 years. “When you run [programs for] hundreds of kids every year, all on volunteer time, there are hundreds of families that have been impacted by Victor,” Overing said. Lorraine Valenzuela, McClinton’s neighbor of seven years, said she was in her living room on Christmas Day when she heard the first shot. “I looked out the window and I saw him drop,” she said. Valenzuela said she heard about eight more shots as she ran to the back of her house. “In general the area is nice,” she said. “We’ve been hearing [gunshots] lately, though.” McClinton is survived by his wife, Shelly, and two adult sons, Kristian and Kameron, an official said. He was assigned to court services. “He was an extraordinary employee,” said Steve Whitmore, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman. “We lost a member of our family. It’s a tragic loss.” McClinton was a graduate of Verbum Dei High School and attended Pasadena City College, majoring in recreation and administration of justice, according to the program’s website. Authorities said they did not have any suspects in the case but were investigating whether there is a link to a second fatal incident that occurred later in the day in the same area. Shortly before being shot, McClinton wished his friends a merry Christmas on Facebook. “Please let’s not forget those less fortunate than us and those who have lost loved ones,” he wrote. “Say a prayer for all. May God bless you in the upcoming year.” This story hurts us to our hearts. This gun violence has got to stop. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Photo Credit: BHCSports.org
