Jared Leto ‘Blown Away’ By 30 Seconds To Mars’ VMA Noms

‘We’re so proud that a video that was an epic experience for us was recognized,’ Leto tells MTV News. By James Montgomery 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: EMI Music Jared Leto was probably the last person to learn about 30 Seconds to Mars’ Video Music Award nominations . After all, it was already Wednesday morning in New Zealand (16 hours ahead of us here in the U.S.) when he got the news. “I was in Auckland, and I woke up after a long slumber, looked over to my BlackBerry, and noticed that the red light seemed to be flashing with an added urgency,” Leto laughed. “So I reached over and quickly found out that this was a day that would go down in history for this little band of ours.” And rightfully so. After all, 30STM racked up four VMA nominations — more than any other rock act — with their “Kings and Queens” clip , including nods for Best Rock Video and Video of the Year. And immediately after learning the news, Leto reacted somewhat appropriately. “I was completely blown away. It was so unexpected that my first reaction was, ‘Holy f—ing sh– f— f— f—!’ ” he said. “We had no idea this was the way these things worked. It was the furthest thing from our minds. And then someone sent me the list of artists we’re nominated with, and we couldn’t believe that either. It really is exciting.” Leto wouldn’t speculate on his band’s chances of taking home a Moonman — “It truly is an honor just to be nominated,” he said — but in a lot of ways, he feels like he and his bandmates have already won. After all, the success of “Kings and Queens” not only came after a lengthy battle to get their album made , but it was born out of a collaboration with the band’s fans and friends. So the VMA noms are vindication, and they give Leto an opportunity to once again thank everyone who’s helped them along the way. “We’re so proud that a video that was an epic experience for us was recognized, because making it was a creative and beautiful journey that we still talk about fondly,” he said. “It’s a celebration, because it gives me a chance to say thanks to everyone who means so much to us, largely our fans, but everyone else who has supported us. It hasn’t always been this way for us. We’ve had to work so unbelievably hard, and we couldn’t have done it without some help.” Will you be rooting for 30 Seconds to Mars at the VMAs? Britney Does Vegas

Taking a break from her usual daily routine, Britney Spears was spotted enjoying some fun in the sun yesterday (August 31) at a Las Vegas pool, along with a few friends. Surrounded by bodyguards, the “Gimme More” songstress sipped icy cool drinks and puffed on cigarettes as she worked on her tan. Later that evening, Miss Spears made her way through the Mirage Hotel and Casino, along with her entourage, to attend “The Beatles Cirque Du Soleil” performance. And according to FOX Pop Tarts’ Hollie McKay, Brit Brit may have a surprise in store for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, coming up this September 7th at 9:00pm. McKay reports that Spears will have her very own dressing room at the venue, sparking speculation that she may be on the card to do more than just hand out an award. Jimmy Fallon To Host The Emmys

‘Late Night’ star has previously served as host for the MTV Video Music Awards and Movie Awards. By Rochell D. Thomas, with additional reporting by Jocelyn Vena Jimmy Fallon at the 2009 Emmy Awards Photo: Mathew Imaging/ WireImage Looks like “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon will be moving to prime time — at least for one night. The “Saturday Night Live” grad has been tapped to host the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, which will air live August 29 on NBC (8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT). According to the Los Angeles Times ‘ Gold Derby blog , Fallon reportedly won out over fellow “SNL”-er Amy Poehler, who now stars in NBC’s “Parks & Recreation.” It was also rumored that Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake were in the running, thanks to their “SNL” skits “Motherlover” and the Emmy-winning “Di– in a Box.” This will be Fallon’s fourth big hosting gig. The 35-year-old comedian, who’s been running his own late-night chuckfest since March 2009, hosted the 2001 and 2005 MTV Movie Awards and the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. “Hosting the Emmys has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it,” Fallon joked Monday after top executives from NBC and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences made the Emmy announcement. Emmy nominations will be announced July 8. After Conan O’Brien’s controversial exit from NBC in January, Fallon made it clear which side he was on by taking his show’s house band, the Roots, over to Conan’s old NYC studio to pay tribute to his “Late Night” predecessor . Later, when the news broke that Conan had landed a show on TBS, Fallon told MTV News : “It’s great for everybody, great for Conan. I know he’s happy. … He’s a great, funny dude, and I can’t wait to see him.” Do you think Jimmy is a good choice for the Emmys host? Let us know in the comments!
