Mitt Romney Edges Ron Paul to Win Maine Caucuses

Mitt Romney eked out a narrow win in Maine’s Republican caucuses, state party officials announced Saturday, beating Ron Paul by approximately three percent. The victory, however slim, offers the candidate a boost after three straight losses to Rick Santorum last week. How far it will carry him remains to be seen. The former Massachusetts governor earned 39 percent of the vote, while Paul took 36 percent, his strongest showing by share of the vote so far in the campaign. Paul also finished second to Romney in neighboring New Hampshire. Santorum got 18 percent of the vote in Maine and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has faded since winning South Carolina, had 6 percent. While the Maine results don’t immediately offer any convention delegates to Romney, they give him renewed momentum – at least according to Romney, who said: “The voters of Maine sent a clear message that it is past time to send an outsider to the White House, a conservative with a lifetime of experience in the private sector, who can uproot a culture of taxing, spending, borrowing and endless bureaucracy.” The Maine results are based on votes cast at 84 percent of municipal caucuses that have been conducted to date; the rest will be held by March 20. The state’s delegates to the Republican convention will be allocated in May. Because the results aren’t officially complete, Paul did not concede defeat. “It’s almost like we could call it a tie,” he told supporters .

Mark Zuckerberg Named Time Person of the Year

Mark Zuckerberg has beaten out an assortment of trapped miners, a group of bitter voters and a shady Internet activist for the title of Time’s Person of the Year. Handed out since 1927, this honor is described by the magazine as the individual who “has done the most to change the news, for better or worse.” Past recipients have ranged from Adolf Hitler to The Computer to Bill Clinton. Did Mark Zuckerberg have a greater societal impact

Blake Lively Linked to Ryan Reynolds-Scarlett Johansson Breakup?

The speculation was inevitable. With the Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds breakup catching us all by surprise yesterday, rumors are flying about Ryan and his Green Lantern co-star. But don’t believe everything you hear about them … probably. Are Blake and Ryan more than co-stars? Will they be? Scarlett and Ryan’s public line about ut ending amicably, with “love and kindness,” and so on seems hard to believe. But that doesn’t mean Blake is behind it. Rumblings of Reynolds and Lively canoodling and flirting have indeed surfaced in recent weeks (she’s also newly single), and will likely increase now. The press tour for Green Lantern is set to kick off post-New Year’s, and the rumor mill will be buzzing with Blyan spending so much time together. Blake has also been linked to Ryan Gosling since splitting with Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley. Quite the twosome to be romantically linked to in the tabloids. Us Weekly, meanwhile, reports that Ryan has been “reaching out to an ex” amid the separation, but not in a sexual way, and that Scarlett initiated the split. Basically there’s little evidence actually connecting Reynolds and Lively. In closing, this post is useless, but we leave you with these thoughts: Ryan and Blake won’t comment … which will add to speculation. So will Blake’s decision to wear clothing such as you see here. If we were Penn Badgley, we’d try to get ScarJo’s digits ASAP.

Adam Lambert on Homosexuality, Career: It’s a Balancing Act

Since he first graced the American Idol stage, Adam Lambert has handled the topic of his homosexuality with grace and maturity. That’s continued to this day, including a recent visit to France, where a reporter asked Adam if he gets bothered by how often his sexual preference comes up in interviews. “It doesn’t bother me,” he said. “When I’m abroad, people mostly ask me why they talk about it so much in the U.S.! And it’s normal, because there are very few openly gay artists. I just don’t want it to overshadow my music, and this can be the case because of the media, who have a tendency to sensationalize the issue.” Lambert was also asked about the single “Aftermath,” which seems to focus on the issue of one coming out. “When there’s a cause that you can support in an honest manner and when you can influence people to make their life better, I don’t think you should pass up the opportunity,” he said of the song. “It’s very exciting to be able to do something meaningful. Even if it’s only a simple pop song, there’s an intent behind it, which is to help people to better accept who they are.” This artist has been a featured artist at a number of recent holiday concerts.
