Sometimes, even when a scandal is resolved, the people involved are haunted by rumor and resentments. The Bachelor in Paradise sex scandal is, unfortunately, an example of that. DeMario Jackson is understandably bitter at how some portrayed him. What’s more, he says that the “scandal” would never have happened if he’d been white. Last June, just days into the first attempt at filming Bachelor in Paradise season 4, production was shut down after DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios had a drunken hookup in the pool. The alleged problem, brought forward by two producers, was that they thought that a sexual assault had taken place, because Corinne and DeMario were both said to be pretty heavily intoxicated. You can plan to hook up with somebody and drink, sure. But if you’re plastered, folks, you can’t consent. Nobody involved was ever heard accusing DeMario of taking advantage of Corinne or Corinne of taking advantage of DeMario, but the lack of information did lead to a lot of rumors. It didn’t help that Corinne was unable to remember what had happened. The investigation found no evidence of sexual assault , and Corinne publicly expressed satisfaction with the findings, but apparently even that vindication hasn’t soothed all of the hurt feelings during the investigation. Understandably, DeMario still feels a little bitter. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , DeMario Jackson says that the scandal never would have happened if he were white . He suggests that the producers who expressed their concerns thought that they were seeing a narrative play out that wasn’t real. “They wanted the angry black guy and this little, innocent white girl. But it wasn’t that.” Very true. And before you say that it looks like DeMario is slut-shaming Corinne, he’s not. (We’ll get to that) “If I would have been [white contestants] Alex [Woytkiw] or Derek [Peth], we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.” Kind of awkward to name specific names. (Also, it’s funny that he mentions those two, because Alex Woytkiw and Derek Peth look like they could be related) DeMario laments his missed opportunities. “I would probably be engaged to Alexis [Waters] right now.” Wow. DeMario has mentioned before on Instagram that he has fond memories from his few days on Bachelor in Paradise . One of those fond memories was throwing coconuts into the water with Alexis Waters at, like, 3am. He apparently asked Alexis to marry him, but we don’t know at what point. She turned him down, though. We don’t think that DeMario is saying that he’d be engaged to Alexis if he were white, but rather that, if the scandal hadn’t happened, he’d be married to Alexis. And … maybe? White privilege is a real thing, and it’s certainly the case that some people are more likely to call the police on interracial couples, alleging either kidnapping or prostitution. (Racism sucks, folks) It’s always easy to imagine that your life would be better if that one thing hadn’t occurred. It’s not always true. We just hope that DeMario doesn’t get hung up on this and, personally and professionally, can move past this. DeMario has more to say about how things would have been if he were white. “This wouldn’t have been a story.” We’re not sure about that, because the producers who raised the (false) alarm may have been sensitive to a drunk woman hooking up rather than to DeMario’s race. But was there racism involved in the backlash? Absolutely. “We wouldn’t even be having this discussion at all. … I had white America calling me the N-word and telling me to ‘go back to Africa.'” That is so sad. We’ve spoken about how even DeMario’s mother was told hateful things . Again, Corinne never once said anything bad about DeMario. And DeMario is returning the favor, talking about how shamefully people talked about Corinne: “And they were slut-shaming Corinne, which sucked.” Racism and sexism combined to shame both people when there wasn’t even a sexual assault. DeMario says that this has impacted his entire worldview. “For me, I’m just sitting here thinking, ‘Wow. Our world.’ The human race continues to let me down.” That is wildly relatable. Like, there was a literal Nazi rally over the weekend that included a terrorist attack against counter-protesters. “Wow, Our world” is right. Back in April, Kim Zolciak’s 4-year-old son Kash was severely injured after being attacked by a dog. Zolciak updated fans on Kash’s recovery via social media, but she kept certain details to herself, and as a result, the severity of the attack remains something of a mystery. Based on what we know, it sounds as though Kash’s injuries bordered on life-threatening. Zolciak described her son as “traumatized” and revealed that he nearly “lost a very important organ,” though she never specified which one. Kim is under no obligation to divulge the details of her son’s condition, but from what she chose to share, we can surmise that the incident left Kash with both physical and psychological scars that could last a lifetime. It’s for that reason that many fans are shocked by Kim’s choice of present for her son’s fifth birthday. According to a Snapchat from Kim posted yesterday, she and husband Kroy Biermann surprised Kash with a pit bull puppy. She shared a photo of the boy and his dog with fans, most of whom have been supportive of her decision. She captioned the image: “My heart is going to explode.” The choice of present resulted in some negative comments online for obvious reasons. Some bashed Kim as insensitive for putting the child in a position where showing fear would mean rejecting a birthday present from his parents. Others defended the reality star, pointing out that she’s posted photos of Kash playing with dogs on more than one occasion since his attack. Knowing next to nothing about Kash’s psychological state in the months following the attack, it’s impossible for us to say if the gift of a puppy was a bad idea or just what the doctor ordered. Whatever the case, it seems Kim’s youngest is recovering nicely. Kash started kindergarten earlier this week, and it seems the occasion took a serious emotional toll on Kim. “My nugget Kash is a bit more sensitive and shy. There is something about boys that just gets me,” Zolciak captioned an Instagram pic on Monday. “THANK YOU for all of your sweet comments through all my tears last night I didn’t feel as crazy knowing so many of you are going through the same. Love all of you have a fantastic day and I’ll let you know if I hop in my car and go pick him up.” No matter what she does, fans will likely continue to question Kim’s parenting methods, but there’s no questioning her love for her kids. Did Peter Kraus being a mature person with a grounded, honest idea of what engagements mean kill his chance to be the Bachelor? Yeah, we know — it’s upsetting to think about. But, unthinkably, it’s starting to look that way. From very early on, Peter Kraus was a clear frontrunner on this last season of The Bachelorette . To the collective horror of most of the Bachelor Nation, Rachel Lindsay chose Bryan Abasolo and left Peter as a weeping mess. What appears to have been the deciding factor for Rachel, despite Peter Kraus’ countless winning qualities, is that Bryan was willing to say exactly what Rachel wanted to hear. Rachel wanted her season to end with a proposal. To Peter, a proposal means a commitment to marry — which is, folks, literally what proposals are — and he would want to continue to get to know Rachel and date her after their season ended. You don’t know someone until you’ve seen them off-camera. To Rachel, though, a delay on the proposal meant an interruption of her carefully imagined plans. It was a dealbreaker. But many began to hope that Peter would go on to have a career within the Bachelor Nation. We talked to you about why Peter Kraus would be the perfect Bachelor . He has a huge fanbase already. He’s charming, he’s handsome. And there’s a reason that we spent an entire post talking about Peter Kraus’ abs, folks . Seriously. Despite the demands by Bachelor Nation members of sense everywhere, however, it looks like the creator of The Bachelor doesn’t think that Peter is the right fit. Mike Fleiss is a producer of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette . He is also the creator of The Bachelor . Just a few hours ago, in possibly the most transparent subtweet that we have seen, ever, in our lives, Mike Fleiss said this: “Do we really want a Bachelor who isn’t ready to settle down with a woman he loves? Hmmm. Not what # thebachelor is all about…” Dude, that is not subtle at all. Peter Kraus has said that he’s undecided about being the Bachelor , but his fans are rooting for him. In the light of Mike Fleiss’ tweet, though, many fans are crushed. We’d like to point out that it isn’t a “hard no.” And also that Fleiss didn’t actually mention Peter Kraus by name at all. (Even though he might as well have just hired a skywriter to spell out Peter’s full name in the heavens) It’s entirely possible that Fleiss is deliberately teasing the Bachelor Nation, or even floating the idea by appearing to reject it. As many fans responded, Peter as a suitor and Peter as the leading man are very different things regarding his willingness to commit. We’ll say this much about the horrible nightmare universe where Peter Kraus isn’t the Bachelor: At least there’s a chance that it could be Dean Unglert. If you’ll recall, Dean Unglert is also a favorite to be the Bachelor . Despite his youth. Unlike with Peter Kraus , even Rachel Lindsay seemed supportive of the idea of Dean taking up the mantle. Dean is a little young, but he’s 26, so … that shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for anyone. He’s also basically universally loved (even by Peter — those two struck up a real friendship) and his dazzling blue eyes can steal anyone’s heart. So, even without Peter, there’s a very real chance that the next season of The Bachelor could be salvaged. But (as Rachel Lindsay is likely to feel in a few years), we’ll always wonder what might have been. View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Fans to Rachel Lindsay: Do NOT PICK Bryan Abasolo!

All the negativity in the news these lately surrounding racism and the antics of white supremacists can definitely be draining so I can’t say I don’t feel Solange for needs to just unplug from it all for a while.
