Jake Pavelka Gives "Inspired" Acting Performance Post-Breakup

Who says nothing good can come out of the sad unraveling of a fake relationship? For Jake Pavelka, his recent “heartbreak” led to some stirring acting scenes. In an upcoming episode of Drop Dead Diva , Camille Guaty plays a reality star dumped on live TV by a Bachelor-like cad – played by the former Bachelor star. In the climactic scene, Pavelka’s character Toby must choose between two women, and Guaty’s character, Wendy, goes into hysterics when he rejects her. Pavelka had the perfect inspiration to play the villain, of course – he shot his scene last Monday, the same day he split with alleged fiancee Vienna Girardi . They broke up amid rumors she was cheating with Gregory Michael . For Jake Pavelka, it was art imitating life. Kind of . “Jake literally discovered the shocking news about Vienna while on set, moments before shooting this scene for the first time,” Guaty tells Us Weekly . As a result? “He did an incredible job!” the actress gushed. Pavelka’s real-life heartbreak, she added, “gave him something to work with … I just told him to stay focused and use what happened towards the scene.” Seems like it worked, according to his counterpart: “Let’s just say that when we were discussing this scene beforehand, Jake found it really difficult to tell me that I wasn’t the one,” she said. “And after he heard the news from Vienna, it seemed like second nature to him … I guess we have Vienna to thank!” Ahh, don’t we all, Camille. Don’t we all. Just hope he doesn’t make a fist at you or any of your Drop Dead Diva co-stars … things could get ugly fast.

THG Talk: An Exclusive Interview with Jordin Sparks

Before American Idol viewers decided to vote for the same guitar-playing male every season (David Cook… Kris Allen … Lee DeWyze), they selected Jordin Sparks as their champion. We’ve been big fans of the talented singer since since she took the Fox stage and we were lucky enough to speak with her this week, as she took time away from her summer tour. We thank Jordin for her time and we present this exclusive interview below… What has the American Idol experience been like for you? Can it be compared to what you imagined it would be like? I imagined it would be easy, just a singing competition. HA! It was a lot of work and pretty stressful. But I made friendships that will last forever and I am really happy with how it turned out. You’ve sung with Chris Brown. You’ve sung at the Super Bowl. What has been the most memorable professional experience for you? Well, the fact that I get to sing for my job is the best thing. Everything else, the duet, the Super Bowl, touring… it’s all a bonus. Idol has received some criticism for naming three consecutive winners that were all very similar. Any thoughts on that? I definitely think that when the show started to allow instruments, it opened itself up to a whole bunch of people who wouldn’t have auditioned before. So I’m glad those people can have the opportunity as well. But the show shouldn’t receive criticism for naming winners the audience voted for. Any thoughts on Simon leaving? It’s bittersweet. Simon was made out to be the villain. I’m going to miss him for sure… It’s going to be so different without [Paula and Simon]. I wish them nothing by the best in whatever they do moving forward. What was it like to participate in the We Are the World remake ? It was amazing for me. The original is such a classic and pretty much everyone knows it… to see all the artists there for a cause bigger than ourselves was so humbling. This is your first-ever solo tour. Talk about your plans and hopes

Michael Fassbender Head of the Class?

It looks like Michael Fassbender’s supervillain Sophie’s Choice might be easier than expected . While he’s still presumably on the shortlist to play the villain in Sony’s Spider-Man reboot, the German actor has been officially offered the role of Magneto in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class over at Twentieth Century Fox. If he accepts, Fassbender — next seen slicing throats in Centurion — would star alongside the previously announced James McAvoy, who plays Professor X in the film scheduled for release next summer. Marvel fatigue or not, that does sound pretty OK, right? [ Deadline ]

Kristen Stewart, Zach Galifianakis, Robert Pattinson and more left the show with Golden Popcorn. By Josh Wigler Kristin Stewart onstage at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic From ninja assassins and naked crime lords to horror victims and lovelorn teenagers, there were several worthy candidates among the nominees at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards , but in the end, only an elite few could emerge from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles with their very own Golden Popcorn statuette. After the consistently hilarious and frequently emotional two-hour event, 12 competitors walked away victorious, including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Anna Kendrick and many more. Below, check out all the winners and the other worthy nominees from the Movie Awards! Best Movie

Aziz Ansari Handicaps The MTV Movie Awards

‘I vote Christoph [Waltz] all the way,’ host says of ‘Inglourious Basterds’ star’s Best Villain nod. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: Jesse Grant/ Getty Images With the 2010 MTV Movie Awards getting closer and closer to showtime (roughly four days and a few hours left to go!), we thought it would be a good idea to check in with the night’s esteemed host, Aziz Ansari , to see how he’s handling the pressure, what he’s preparing and, most importantly, who he thinks deserves to win. On getting the call to come host the show, the “Parks and Recreation” star admitted he was “excited,” yet “stunned all the people in ‘Twilight’ weren’t available.” Speaking of the famed vampire-centric franchise, Ansari said that he’s been watching the films as part of his preparation. “I watched ‘Twilight’ a bunch, ‘Avatar’ 400 times,” he said. “I’ve been stalking Daniel Radcliffe, whatever I can do to get those movies in my head.” He’s also been doing a lot of writing for the show, adding, “I want to make sure all of my short films meet the high bar met by previous hosts.” Regarding the potential winners, Ansari had some pointed opinions, particularly with the Best Villain and Best Comedic Performance categories. “I gotta throw my bit behind Christoph Waltz [“Inglourious Basterds”],” he said of the Best Villain race. “That was an incredible performance. I vote Christoph all the way.” Ansari also mentioned a character that was overlooked in that category. “In ‘The Blind Side,’ did society get nominated as Best Villain?” he joked. “That’s my vote: society. Or poverty.” So who would get up and accept that award? “I think we all would have to get up and get that award,” Ansari responded. The funnyman’s pick for Best Comedic Performance was slightly more challenging, especially since we pointed out that he wasn’t nominated in that category himself. “I know, I guess they looked over me,” he said, unfazed. “I’d have to go with Robert Pattinson in ‘Remember Me’ for that category. … No, I was a big fan of Zach Galifianakis’ performance in ‘The Hangover.’ He’s been around for so long. He’s never had the opportunity to be funny in a movie like that, and they gave it to him, and he knocked it out of the park.” Ansari ended our chat with suggestions for new categories, including Why the F— Did They Make This Movie and Best Piece of S— Performance. ‘Avatar,’ ‘Paranormal Activity,’ ‘District 9’ Stars React To MTV Movie Award Nominations

‘I think these awards are totally cool, and to get two nominations is just a gas,’ says Stephen Lang of ‘Avatar.’ By Eric Ditzian, with additional reporting by Josh Horowitz and Josh Wigler Photo: 20th Century Fox The 2010 MTV Movie Awards nominations are in, pitting villains against villains, fights against fights and scared-as-hell moments against scared-as-hell moments. In other words, the show is shaping up to be completely freakin’ nuts. As the June 6 awards show approaches, we’ve been speaking to the nominees to get their reactions about the honors. “This is crazy news — I love it!” said Sharlto Copley of “District 9,” who garnered a nod in the brand-new category Scared-as S**t Performance. “I love the way they just make up the category names! That, to me, always made the MTV Movie Awards more interesting than any of the others. They were always my favorite.” A South African native, Copley has a long history of watching the show and made a point of thanking fans for giving him a chance to take part in the action. “I’m very surprised but very grateful to the MTV and ‘District 9’ fans that voted for me,” he said. “It really — the MTV Movie Awards were the kind of awards that I like, the only real award ceremony over the years in South Africa that I actually did watch whenever I could. It’s a real honor. It also actually shows that our film ended up in the pop culture.” Among his competition in the Scared-as S**t Performance category is Katie Featherston, the star of the ultra-low-budget smash hit “Paranormal Activity.” “I’m stoked!” she said of the nomination. “I have to say, years ago when we were filming the movie, I very secretly dreamt that either I or the movie would be nominated for an MTV Movie Award. But it was kind of embarrassing because those sorts of things seemed too far out, too big. So now, for it to be happening, it’s awesome. I can’t wait to go to the show.” “I have some stiff competition but I also have some awesome fans,” she added. “The fans are the reason the movie was even released. Because it was so grassroots and people were so invested it getting it out. And people feel like they know us, and to some extent they really do. They’re cool people who helped us out and I think will continue to help us.” “Avatar” co-star Stephen Lang was so pumped about his two nominations — for Best Villain and Best Fight — that he called us up from Bulgaria, where he’s currently on location for a movie shoot. “I think these awards are totally cool, and to get two nominations is just a gas. ‘Avatar’ is such a populist film and these awards are something that everyone votes on,” he said, going on to reference the film’s somewhat disappointing performance at the Oscars. “The Academy is the Academy and they have their ways. If everyone who saw ‘Avatar’ casts a vote for ‘Avatar,’ we should do fine. Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards , airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! ‘Harry Potter’ Star Tom Felton Calls Movie Awards Nod ‘A Massive Honor’

‘I’d love to see some awards being handed out to ‘Harry Potter’ stars,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Tom Felton Photo: Steven Lawton/ FilmMagic Last summer, at the New York premiere for “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,” Tom Felton — the Brit actor behind platinum-blond baddie Draco Malfoy — walked us through the key characteristics of a great onscreen villain . “Cold eyes, I’ve been told. A pretty pasty face,” he said. “I think to be evil you need an iconic look. Like a James Bond villain, with the scar or a cat.” The guy certainly knows what he’s talking about. On Wednesday morning (May 12), Felton was nominated for Best Villain at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards . Back in South London while finishing up the shoot for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” Felton gave MTV News a call to talk about his nomination and take stock of the competition. “It’s a massive honor,” he said. “Especially given that it’s a fan vote. That makes it quite touching. And it’s classic for me, because for almost a decade, kids have been running onto set and hugging Daniel [Radcliffe] and shaking Emma [Watson]’s hand. I try and be as polite as I can, and I never seem to get anywhere with them. Finally, I’m in a category that celebrates that fact!” Come the June 6 awards show, Felton will face off in the Best Villain category against Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”), Helena Bonham Carter (“Alice in Wonderland”), Ken Jeong (“The Hangover”) and Stephen Lang (“Avatar”). Obviously, the key question is: Which of these nefarious characters would win in a fight? Lang’s scar-faced, alien-slaying boss in “Avatar” might prove to be a bit of a challenge for the supernatural-assisted Draco, but Felton isn’t too worried. “If he had one of those big suits on he had on at the end, I’m not sure I’d stand a chance,” he said, before deciding, “But I have got the wand always, and the broomstick is pretty nimble.” The wand is exactly what Draco would need against Waltz’s cold-blooded, Jew-hunting Nazi — a performance Felton dubbed “the most spine-chilling of the year.” “He may talk a good talk, but against a decent spell or two, I might be able to take him,” Felton laughed. And then there’s Helena Bonham Carter, his “Harry Potter” co-star and now his MTV Movie Awards adversary. “Never my competition — she’s my idol,” Felton said. “I’ve learned more off her than anyone else.” Sure you don’t want to talk a little smack? “Of course! I’m putting a friendly face on it, but on the night, it’s all game,” Felton said. “Each dog for his own.” Lastly, there is Jeong’s naked, tire-iron-swinging mob boss. Can a wizard take him down? And would Draco ever strip it all off to prove he’s the best villain on the big screen? Turns out, that almost happened during “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” “In the fourth film, I got turned into a ferret,” he said. “In the original script, it says that in the transition back from ferret to human, I was going to be naked, and I was going to have to run through the courtyard with about 60 extras and 50 film crew and run out with my cheeks on show. For some reason, they pulled that at the last minute. I don’t know why. Maybe they thought it was too explicit for young viewers. Maybe something about not having a wide-angle lens!” Well played, sir. Any final words — a get-out-the-vote message for fans? “After 10 years, to still be in the public’s hearts, it really means a lot,” he said. “I can speak for Daniel and Emma and the rest of the cast on that one. I’d love to see some awards being handed out to ‘Harry Potter’ stars on the night.” Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards , airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! ‘Iron Man 3’ Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Now that you’ve seen ‘Iron Man 2,’ here’s everything we know about ‘Iron Man 3’ so far. By Larry Carroll Robert Downey Jr in “Iron Man 2” Photo: Warner Bros. Iron Man 3 Even before the smash success of the original “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios was addressing the possibility of multiple sequels . Sure enough, after the movie opened to over $100 million , Jon Favreau was trying to decide between “Avengers” and “Iron Man 2” — by now, you might be able to guess which he chose. On the verge of “Iron Man 2” opening, Favs told us that he was ready to have Tony Stark suit up again after the “Thor,” “Captain America” and “Avengers” movies came out. He also revealed that he wanted the Mandarin to be the villain . The Ideas The franchise stars are already pondering the possibilities of where Tony Stark could go after taking on Whiplash and other assorted foes in “Iron Man 2.” Gwyneth Paltrow wanted her Pepper Potts to see some action ; Robert Downey Jr. had some strong ideas about where he wanted to take Tony ; and even the creator of War Machine weighed in, saying he hoped the filmmakers would finally uncork the beloved “Demon in a Bottle” story line from the Marvel comics. The Villain Favreau spoke extensively about how he hoped “Thor” and the other films would make magic more plausible in the Marvel universe so he could incorporate the Mandarin into “Iron Man 3.” Even Faran Tahir, the actor who captured Tony Stark in the original film, laid the groundwork for his return in the role . 3-D in 2013? ‘Iron Man 3’ Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

‘Iron Man 2’ Cast Reveals Inspiration For War Machine, Whiplash, Justin Hammer

Mickey Rourke went to prison for research, while Don Cheadle and Sam Rockwell … read comics? By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Photo: MTV News Their characters have existed on the comic book page for decades, etched into readers’ minds long before the idea of adapting “Iron Man” for the big screen was even hatched. But that history of pen and ink, of well-established characterization, of colorful heroes and even more colorful villains, didn’t mean cast and crew were boxed in when it came to conceiving cinematic equivalents for characters like War Machine, Whiplash and Justin Hammer. In interviews conducted before “Iron Man 2” grossed $133.6 million during its opening weekend, the actors behind those Marvel creations — Mickey Rourke, Don Cheadle and Sam Rockwell — spoke with MTV New about the choices they made to make the characters their own. Rourke famously holed up in a Russian prison to capture the nuances of the villain Ivan Vanko, who ends up transforming himself into the laser-tendril-outfitted Whiplash. While his dialogue coach gave his Russian accent the OK, Rourke’s girlfriend, the Russian-born model Anastassija Makarenko, was less pleased. “She thought it sucked,” he laughed. Rourke’s preparation didn’t stop there. He insisted that Vanko have a mouthful of metallic dental work, a body covered in tattoos and a pet cockatoo. “[Director Jon Favreau] had to fight for the teeth and the tattoos and the bird. Everything was a little bit of a fight,” Rourke said. “The Marvel people, who could have easily said no, said yes. They trusted Jon, and Jon trusted me, and Robert was very supportive.” So what did Cheadle do to get into character as the metal-suited freedom fighter, War Machine? He headed straight to a Russian prison as well. “I discovered that once I’d been in there that it had nothing to do with War Machine,” he joked. “But I thought, ‘If Mickey Rourke’s going to do it, I got to do it.’ ” In actuality, probably all Cheadle needed to do was lift some weights, because the War Machine costume was seriously heavy and uncomfortable. “A great deal of it is CGI,” he explained. “The metal frame, the metal torso down to the waist was real and metal and inarticulate and cumbersome. I was thinking, ‘Why did I do this?’ Summer Stock looked so much better!” To portray the nefarious arms dealer Justin Hammer, Rockwell turned to the “Iron Man” comic books — up to a point. “I got the flamboyance of him in the comic book — the ascot and the smoking robe,” the actor said. And though they experimented with the idea of using that look in the movie, he said, “Eventually, we just did our own thing. Who knows? Maybe he’ll go there some day.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Iron Man 2.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
