Kanye West Album Cover: Revealed!

Kanye West is keeping it simple for his next album. The rapper has unveiled the art for his upcoming CD, which will be titled “Yeezus” and which will drop on June 18. It’s simply a plain case with a disc inside and a piece of red tape. Sort of surprising for a guy who debuted his latest music video on the side of buildings around the world. Check out the art now and sound off: Did the Kim Kardashian baby daddy make a good choice?

LeAnn Rimes Admits to Some "Bad Choices"

LeAnn Rimes has come cleaner than ever before in a new interview with People . The singer – whose affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian in 2009 colored her as the villain in a never-ending feud with Brandi Glanville – talked to the magazine from her home in Los Angeles recently and admitted: “I made some really bad choices. I caused hurt.” Why is she speaking out now? Because Rimes will release “Spitfire” out June 4 and the tracks on the album apparently document the drama that has comprised her life for the last four years. Some lyrics even include an apology to ex-husband Dean Sheremet . “I broke the sweetest heart of the only man that’s ever loved me,” she sings in “What Have I Done.” Rimes also combines non-fiction with art when crooning about being a mistress in “Borrowed” and she makes a peace offering to a woman scorned in “Just a Girl Like You.” “I’ve grown up a lot these last five years,” LeAnn tells People . “I thought my life was falling apart, but now everything is good.”

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ TV Clip: Kirk Takes Center Stage

When the Star Trek Into Darkness   marketing campaign began in earnest late last year with a much-discussed teaser trailer, the debate was all about the villain:   Benedict Cumberbatch’s icy voiceover and acrobatic evildoing led to lots of theorizing that his mysterious character was Khan , Robert April and other Star Trek canon creeps . Four months later, with the release of the J.J. Abrams -directed film a little over a month away, a TV clip that debuted on Sunday continued to shift the spotlight from bad guy to good:  Captain James T. Kirk.   Actually, the transition began with the Star Trek Into Darkness international trailer that hit the web in late March. Although Cumberbatch’s character is prominent (and vicious) in the clip, Chris Pine’s Kirk emerges as the guy who’s going to break a lot of rules and sacrifice however many Starship Enterprise extras he needs to top Benny’s reign of terror. You can watch the transition via the embeds below: First Teaser Trailer Star Trek International Trailer The latest TV Clip: The key dialogue in that last clip begins with Kirk’s superior officer Christopher Pike ( Bruce Greenwood )  telling him: “Do you have any idea what a pain in the ass you are?”  then, later, adding: “But there’s greatness in you, Jim.” Okay, so it’s no surprise that the central conflict of STID is Kirk vs. Cumberbatch. Rather, it’s…marketing. As the clock ticks down to STID ‘s release date, it’s a way of preparing moviegoers who aren’t Star Trek geeks for what to expect at their local cineplex come May 16. What remains to be seen is whether future clips will put the emphasis on any other supporting characters, such as Spock , in the weeks to come. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on  Twitter. WATCH: The Mandarin Isn’t Talking Funny Anymore

There’s yet another Iron Man 3 TV spot making the rounds, and, like the international TV spot I wrote about on Monday, it leaves the distinct impression that Ben Kingsley has dialed back the affected voice he was using in his portrayal of the Mandarin . How Kingsley Dialed Back The Mandarin’s Vocal Acrobatics In this clip, Kingsley, in voiceover, uses his signature line, “You’ll never see me coming,” but this time he doesn’t lead-foot the l’s and r’s.  Instead, he breaks up the sentence with dramatic pauses, so he sounds appropriately dangerous as opposed to dangerous and destined to be a recurring Saturday Night Live character.  Check out the second clip for Kingsley’s original reading of the line. A Disney spokeswoman still hasn’t gotten back to me on whether a conscious decision was made to change the downplay the Mandarin’s vocal acrobatics. If that ever happens, I’ll update. Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige Plays Superhero Shrink For Tony Stark:  In other Iron Man 3 news, Marvel Studios Production President Kevin Feige plays superhero shrink in an “Under The Armor” interview at Marvel.com and sheds some light on Tony Stark’s mindset going into the movie.  Noting that this latest installment in the Iron Man saga takes place after the events of The Avengers Feige says: “Not only did he encounter all of those crazy characters with hammers and capes and shields and gamma-irradiated strength, but a portal to another world opened above his head. Tony Stark is a very scientifically minded guy who thought he was at the cutting edge of science, and suddenly learned in those brief moments at the end of “Marvel’s The Avengers,” that there is an infinite amount that he doesn’t know. I think that made him feel small in a certain way and I think even encountering those other super heroes in “Marvel’s The Avengers” made him feel like he was not the most powerful person in the world, which I think Tony likes to feel like he is. He may be the smartest person in the world, but not necessarily the most powerful. So when we meet him at the beginning of “Iron Man 3,” he’s using the suit as a shell almost. It is a shell to shield himself from all of this new information, this new influx of reality that is crashing around him. At the same time, as tends to happen in good movies, another villain arises. And suddenly, when he’s sort of at a state where he’d much rather stay in his lab and work on his suits, something happens that forces him to get out of his house, to get out of his lab and even in some cases, get out of the suit, to confront this new evil.” More on Iron Man 3 & the Mandarin:  WATCH: Pepper Dons Armor & The Mandarin Sheds Weird Dialect In International ‘Iron Man 3’ Clip Marvel Studios Says Iron Man 3 Villain The Mandarin Isn’t Chinese, He’s International ‘Iron Man 3’ Director Spills On The Mandarin & He Sounds Like….Mike Ovitz? ‘Iron Man 3’ Director Spills On The Mandarin & He Sounds Like….Mike Ovitz?

If, like me, you’ve been spending way too much time puzzling over the international villain of mystery known as The Mandarin , I have some clues and an out-there theory. I’ll give you the information first. In an interview with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and Iron Man 3  d irector Shane Black that was posted Monday on Marvel.com , the two men shed a little bit more light on the character, played by Ben Kingsley .  In the Marvel Comics universe, the Mandarin is Chinese, but in the Marvel movie universe he’s more of an multicultural mutt, in part, because Asian audiences are so hugely important to tentpole movies today that no studio wants to risk offending a nation of 1.4 billion. (That’s almost 20 percent of the world’s population in pie-chart terms.) According to Feige, the Mandarin “is recognizable and frightening and fearful in a very sort of ripped-from-the-headlines, Osama Bin Laden sort of way.”  At the same time, he explained, Black, who directed Iron Man 3 and co-wrote the script with Drew Pearce saw him as analogous “to Marlon Brando’s character in Apocalypse Now , Colonel Kurtz. He was a guy who’s gone off the reservation, who’s incorporating all these different symbols and iconography into his worldview.” And here’s Black’s take from that same interview: “He represents every terrorist in a way, but he specifically has crafted himself in the manner of the Mandarin, of the warlord, and I think that’s great because you get to do the comic book [version of the villain], but yet you don’t have to deal with the specifics of the Fu Man Chu stereotyping. We aren’t saying he’s Chinese, we’re saying he, in fact, draws a cloak around himself of Chinese symbols and dragons because it represents his obsession with Sun Tzu and ancient arts of warfare that he has studied.” Which brings me to my theory. Black’s reference to Sun Tzu reminds me of another long-deposed warlord who cloaked himself in the words of that famous Chinese military strategist and The Art of War author: Creative Artists Agency co-founder Michael Ovitz, who once had much of Hollywood by the short hairs and did business out of an I.M. Pei-designed shrine to his success.  Black was a CAA client during the agency’s 1980s heyday, and some of the lines that the Mandarin utters in the last trailer, which I’ve posted below, could pass for agent speak. How do I know. Imagine Entourage ‘s Ari Gold saying: “Mr. Stark, today is the first day of what’s left of your life” or “Do you want an empty life or a meaningful death?” See what I mean? Sylvester Stallone Escapes Copyright Lawsuit, Probably With The Help Of A Rag-Tag Team of Lawyer Mercenaries

In case you were wondering, action movie cliches are probably public domain. We now know this because a lawsuit alleging that Sylvester Stallone plagiarized a script called The Cordoba Caper for The Expendables has been rejected by federal judge Jed Rakoff, essentially on those grounds. Corporate speechwriter Marcus Webb, writer of The Cordoba Caper , alleged that Stallone’s action hero supergroup film borrowed heavily from his own script, a claim Stallone denies. Stallone admits he based his draft on a different script entitled Barrow by David Callahan, but that he has never seen Webb’s. (Callahan is credited as co-writer on the final Expendables script.) The similarities between Webb’s and Stallone’s scripts are striking at first glance. The Cordoba Caper involves the adventures of highly trained soldiers of fortune, employed by a wealthy benefactor to take out a ruthless despot engaged in genocidal programs related activities. This obviously bears a striking resemblance to the plot of The Expendables , right down to the ‘rescuing a young woman’ subplot. The only problem? It also sounds a lot like about 500 other action films. The judge agreed, finding in his ruling that the plot points used in both films were “simple stock devices that are standard in action movies.” Even The Expendables ‘ most solid similarity to The Cordoba Caper – the villain in both stories is named ‘General Garza’ – was dismissed as such. “As defendants point out,” Rakoff said, “Garza is a common Hispanic surname.” Webb’s script was never picked up for development. He submitted it to several amateur screenwriting contests, none of which he won, prompting Judge Rakoff to note that, “It would require almost endless speculation” to conjure up the means by which Stallone would have laid eyes on it. The bad news? People apparently believe that The Expendables has something resembling a ]script.’ The good news? That screenplay you’ve been tooling with, about the rag-tag team of warriors brought together to right wrongs while delivering tired awesome one liners and dispensing endless rivers of bullet casings can probably go forward. At least you know Stallone won’t sue. [ Source: Variety ]
