‘American Idol’ Report Card: Joshua Ledet Soars Again, Hollie Cavanagh Climbs

The top six tackled Queen songs and their own picks; here’s how they did. By Gil Kaufman Joshua Ledet performs on “American Idol” Photo: FOX It was clear from the opening medley on Wednesday night that Queen night was going to be a struggle for some “American Idol” top six. Ironically, it was the three leading contenders
, Joshua Ledet, Skylar Laine and Jessica Sanchez who seemed most uncomfortable, which did note bode well for the evening. With the only real sort of-rocker, Colton Dixon
, booted last week, that meant it was do-or-die time for anyone hoping to make it to next months’ finale. And despite a shaky start, Ledet may have punched his card to the finale, where he is likely to face slow-and-steady Phillip Phillips, while Sanchez and Laine just kind of coasted. Despite what Steven and Jennifer said time-and-again, none of these performances are likely to go into the “Idol” all-time vault, but a decent night all around. So, who deserves a coronation? Who fell down and broke their crown? Read on for our “American Idol” report card! Joshua Ledet : Once again, Ledet nailed it, taking a song that could have seriously tripped him up and wrestling it to the ground with some old-school soul. The bass-slapping Sam Cooke run through “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” was crazy good and the vintage mic was a real nice touch. This dude’s got it so in the bag that he sang an obscure India.Arie song, “Ready For Love” that features the lyric “respects the spirit world,” and he still killed it (softly). The only way this guy doesn’t make it to the finale is if his voicebox has a run-in with Metta World Peace’s elbow. A Jessica Sanchez : “Bohemian Rhapsody?” Wow, really Bebe? The Polly Pocket diva picked the dragon slayer and, well, brought a dagger to a sword fight. The first part sounded like a Beyonc

For Your Information: AIDS Campaign Urges Black Women To Take Care Of Their Health…One In 32 Black Women Will Contract HIV/AIDS

More than 30 years into the HIV/AIDS epidemic, black women remain among the hardest hit, and the hardest to reach about prevention. So a determined Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has launched an aggressive awareness campaign in Fort Lauderdale and nine other U.S. cities to urge this vulnerable population to take “take charge” of their health and get tested. Armed with free testing, a litany of radio, outdoor and transit ads, and information distributed in salons, stores, churches and other venues where black women frequent, “Take Charge. Take the Test” hopes to put a dent in some daunting statistics: One in 32 black women will contract HIV/AIDS in their lifetime, compared to one in 106 Latinas and one in 526 white women. Few areas of the country understand that better, or are a more fitting target, than South Florida, where Miami-Dade County ranks first, Broward ranks second and Palm Beach County ranks sixth in the nation for the highest number of new AIDS cases per capita, statistics show. Black women are among the fastest growing population of new cases in all three counties. Wow one in 32 black women vs. one in 526 white women….enough said. Source More On Bossip! Grand Opening, Grand Closing: Oprah Pulls The Plug On Rosie O’Donnell’s Talk Show From The OWN Network

Not even a Houston Family interview could save Rosie’s lil show, damn HARPO! That was fast. Just five months after it premiered amid great fanfare, The Rosie Show has been canceled by OWN, Oprah Winfrey’s ratings-challenged cable net. In a statement she released Friday night, Oprah said, “I thank Rosie from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey. She has been an incredible partner, working to deliver the best possible show every single day. As I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience. I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all.” The final episode will tape March 20 and air March 30. Rosie O’Donnell had relocated to Chicago to tape her show in the same studio where Oprah had become a legend. The magic didn’t wear off. The show had only about 200,000 viewers when the plug was pulled. “It was a great year for me — I wish the show was able to attract more viewers — but it did not,” O’Donnell said. “So I am headed back to my home in New York – with gratitude. On we go!” Should Oprah just call it quits for OWN and take her “L” before she plays herself any further??? via RadarOnline More On Bossip! Just get fawking divorced already and move on with your lives! SMH According to TMZ reports : Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are both willing to end their marriage with an annulment, but each is insisting that the other confess to fraud — and that’s what is holding up their settlement. Sources connected to the former couple tell TMZ … Kim would be happy to annul the marriage, if Kris will admit he defrauded her by promising to live with her in Hollywood and then demanding that she move to Minnesota — something we told you about last October. As we first reported, Kris wants Kim to admit fraud — that she never had any intention of making this a real marriage … something Kim has adamantly denied. We’re told Kim will open the vault and spend anything it takes to win this case if Kris insists that she confesses fraud. As for money … we’ve already told you Kris is demanding $7 million from Kim — something Kim thinks is absurd since he MADE money off the wedding and the reality show PLUS they have a prenup which gives Kris a big fat zero. This divorce has turned in to a “who’s is bigger” contest. At this point both Kim and Kris look crazy and need to just get this over with once and for all! Images via WENN More On Bossip! Epitome Of Bad Parents: Florida Couple Popped For Child Neglect After 12-Year-Old Found Locked Up Looking Like “Concentration Camp Survivor”

This couple ain’t isht . When Florida police checked out a child abuse report, they found an emaciated boy lying on the floor inside a locked bathroom at his home, apparently punished for stealing food. The boy was rushed to the hospital where workers said he resembled a concentration camp survivor, and they treated him for malnutrition and dehydration. The 12-year-old boy’s father and his girlfriend have been charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect. Two other kids at the home have been removed as child welfare officials investigate. According to a police report, the boy – weighing just 40 pounds – was locked in a bathroom, strapped to a bed or caged in a closet for days or weeks at a time over the past year. Brevard County Jail records show 38-year-old Michael Marshall and 48-year-old Sharon Glass have been charged with three counts each of aggravated child abuse and three counts each of child neglect. A judge ordered both be held without bond. It is not immediately clear if they have an attorney. The Titusville Police Department received a report of a young child being unlawfully caged and suffering from abuse, though the report doesn’t spell out whether there was a cage inside the closet. Authorities in Titusville have not returned telephone calls from The Associated Press. Marshall is the father of the 12-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl. Glass is the mother of the 5 year-old boy. The two other children at the home were being seen by doctors, said Carrie Hoeppner, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Children and Families. “No doubt that the younger two have been subjected to mental abuse,” Hoeppner said. Marshall also has a 17-year-old son with his ex-wife, Lisa Minshall, 36, who lives in southwestern Ohio. She said her son was still an infant when she and Marshall divorced, and Marshall hasn’t seen him since he was 3. “I kind of feel sick, and I’m kind of happy that that situation didn’t happen to me and my son,” Minshall said. “If I would have stayed around long enough, he probably would have been abusive to his first son.” Marshall was arrested on a criminal domestic violence charge in Ohio in 1995, records showed. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he was convicted. Welfare officials investigated neglect and concerns about the home environment in the summer of 2010. Once the investigation was closed, the boy was taken out of school and went “unnoticed for so long,” Hoeppner said. There were no other reports from the home or contact between welfare officials and the couple. Brevard Public Schools spokeswoman Christine Davis said the boy was removed from the system for homeschooling in August 2010. Records shows the boy was moved to a private school less than two months later, but the name of the private school wasn’t listed. The couple’s home is located in Titusville, about 40 miles east of Orlando on the coast. The town was known as a good place to watch space shuttle launches at Cape Canaveral. Myrtle Wilcox, a neighbor, said she hadn’t seen the boy since November, when he was outside on the front lawn playing with a dog. “The boy looked to be about 8- or 10-years-old,” Wilcox said. She said he was slender but nothing seemed wrong. On Christmas Eve, Wilcox said Marshall had come over to get help jumping a car. He and his girlfriend wanted to go to a store to buy last minute gifts for their children. “Just ordinary people,” Wilcox said. “Going to work and tending to their own business and taking care of their family. That’s the only thing I could assume about them.” What is wrong with people? Who treats a child this way? Like a prisoner? More On Bossip! The-Dream Takes Aim At Weeknd, Shuts It Down On Tour

Def Jam singer/producer blazed into New York City on Monday on his Kill the Lights Tour, igniting an R&B beef along the way. By Rebecca Thomas The-Dream Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images NEW YORK — When you think about it, it’s only fitting that Maybach Music MCs Wale, Meek Mill and Stalley held court on Monday night as The-Dream rocked the second of a two-night run at SOB’s. Among the ranks of R&B crooners, few have more rap swag than Mr. Terius Nash: From the Roc-A-Fella chain to the vintage throwback jerseys, the singer laced up, slinging NBA metaphors like any good rap star. Then, as if to solidify his credentials, he waded into an R&B beef with the Weekend . When Dream visited our “RapFix Live” late last month, the Love King told host Sway that he had no conflict with Drake’s enigmatic homey. “No, it’s not a beef record to the Weeknd,” The-Dream insisted after a fan tweeted asking about subliminals in his “Ghetto,” from his 1977 mixtape. Fans have been quick to draw comparisons between the Grammy winner and the upstart for their atmospheric singing and production styles. With destination blog Rap Radar hosting the proceedings, it was hard to believe the Georgia crooner hadn’t given the Weeknd a lyrical left-hook. “See I created this sound/ Yes, sir, I shut it down / There’s only one #1 / These other n—as are my sons,” he sang before the sound dropped out for an emphatic pause. The Toronto singer wasted no time, responding with a few Twitter lashes in the wee hours on Tuesday morning (March 13): “I was raised old fashioned, you get at me, i get at you… ain’t no sideways sh– about it.” The Weeknd wasn’t the only one who came under fire though on a balmy Monday night in NY. Dream opened with the beautifully layered kiss-off ” Wake Me When It’s Over,” widely perceived to be a missive aimed at his ex-wife, singer Christina Milian. “You knew it was over / I knew it was over,” he sang before alluding to tabloid pictures that showed the still-married Dream splashing on a beach with a lady friend back in 2010. When he wasn’t airing folks out, The-Dream kept at it, making the case for R&B, a genre pronounced dead more times than we care to count. The soft-spoken Def Jam artist alluded as well to his two-year hiatus from the stage, explaining that he was getting back on his square. He treated the room — filled with as many fellas as there were ladies — to standouts from 1977, including the addictive “Wedding Crasher” and “Used to Be.” If there was any complaint about the intimate show, it’s that an artist of Dream’s caliber is more than ready for backup singers over the backing tracks that sometimes threatened to overpower his vocals. After a wardrobe quick change from his Chicago Bulls ensemble, the newly trim Dream returned in a fitted leather and New York Knicks jersey combo. Launching into crowd faves like “Shawty Is a 10,” “Falsetto,” “Walking on the Moon” and “Fancy,” the singer showcased his Prince-inflected flow. A Kim Kardashian lookalike got a personal treat, as Dream pulled her onstage and grinded her through a … slow seduction. He didn’t hesitate to profess his love for the female anatomy either, in straight graphic terms. “I love makin’ records,” Dream told the crowd. But it’s getting to share them live that’s truly inspiring, he admitted before shutting it down with the ladies’ anthem “Rockin’ That Thang.” Share your reviews of The-Dream show in the comments or tweet us @MTVRapFix! Madonna’s ‘Give Me’ Video: Five Key Nods To Her Past!

From ‘Dick Tracy’ to ‘Like a Virgin,’ MTV News spots the best winks to Queen of Pop’s many reinventions in brand-new video. By John Mitchell Madonna in her “Give Me All Your Luvin’ ” music video Photo: Interscope Madonna dropped her “Give Me All Your Luvin’ ” video on Friday morning (February 3), and the eye-popping clip featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. has fans even more excited for the Queen of Pop’s halftime performance at Sunday’s Super Bowl. In the video, Madonna hits the streets flanked by Minaj, M.I.A. and a very protective football team for a tongue-in-cheek walk down memory lane. In scene after scene, the pop icon references her musical past. We combed through the cheeky clip for some of the best winks at Her Madgesty’s numerous reinventions. Here are our top five: 1. Madonna Passes the Pom-Poms to Nicki, M.I.A. Some of the most famous images of pre-fame Madonna are of the Michigan native in her high school cheerleading uniform, so it seems fitting that in “Your Luvin’, ” there’s what seems to be a symbolic passing of the pom-poms to Minaj and M.I.A. The video opens with Minaj and M.I.A. flying high at the top of a cheerleading formation on a suburban street, just the way Madonna Louise Ciccone might have as a cheerleader at Rochester Adams High School. 2. Getting a Lift — “Material Girl”-Style Not only does the uniformed football team guarding Madonna offer up umbrellas to shield her from raining sparks and throw down their letterman jackets to give her a makeshift red carpet to walk on, but the boys give the singer a lift in a move that feels straight out of her “Material Girl” video — but with a twist. As they help her to keep steady, viewers soon realize she’s walking down the side of a building! 3. Dodging a “Dick Tracy” Gangster As the pop queen parades down an alleyway, an old-school car pulls up alongside her, and then someone rolls down a window and opens fire. The mysterious villain employs a weapon that looks just like the vintage Colt M1921 Thompson submachine guns used by the baddies in Madonna’s hit flick “Dick Tracy.” Luckily, the ever-vigilant team guarding her leaps in front of the fire. 4. Kissing Cheerleaders … That Seems Familiar Madonna’s never been shy about admitting she’s kissed (many) girls — and liked it. But we think this little lingering look at two masked cheerleaders smooching is probably a direct reference to Madonna’s infamous lip lock with Britney Spears at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. (For the record, that legendary moment made our list of Madonna’s top five best MTV performances ever!) 5. Nicki and Madonna Have Blond Ambition Madonna climbs over a pile of football players and straight into a dream sequence that’s a smorgasbord of references to Madonna’s past. When she emerges from the huddle, gone are her long, flowing locks and black leather ensemble, and in their place is a short white lace dress and curly platinum-blond wig that recalls her Blond Ambition/”Vogue” era. The nod to her “Like a Virgin” years is underscored the second the camera cuts to Minaj, who sports a wedding dress that (minus a few ruffles) looks like it came straight from Madonna’s 1984 VMA performance. And while Minaj isn’t wearing Madonna’s famed “boy toy” belt, she does make a reference to it, rapping, “You can be my boy toy.” Are you luvin’ Madonna’s new video?
