Sharkeisha Video, Reactions Slammed By Anti-Bullying Groups

The video showing a Houston teen named Sharkeisha beating up another girl is still getting heavy play on social media and blogs over a week after it went viral. Anti-bullying groups and others aren’t pleased about that, either, particularly when it comes to people cheering on the girl and her vicious sucker punch. Sharkeisha Video The video was uploaded to Instagram last week before being removed due to terms of use violations. It has also been yanked from Twitter and Facebook. Still, Sharkeisha remains a hot topic across the web, and the Anti-Bullying Alliance is condemning it, as well as the act of sharing violence online. The group’s Luke Roberts told the International Business Times: “It is important that young people, the media industry, government and parents work together to make young people feel protected when online.” “It is important to remind young people that what they put online is permanent and difficult to take down,” he added of the video’s staging and sharing. “Young people don’t seem to comprehend that what you do at 14 might affect you when you are 19 looking for a job,” he said, stating the obvious. Sharkeisha may have trouble getting one after this, we’re guessing. Sharkeisha: Fight Video Heard ‘Round the World Kidscape’s Director of Services, Peter Bradley, said the bigger issue here is that lots of people enjoyed watching and sharing the video in question: “These actions illustrate thousands of young people who have taken a part in an attack on an innocent young woman and the images posted on the internet.” Demetria L. Lucas, an editor with the Root, denounced the apparent glorification of the violence in the Sharkeisha video on Twitter and Facebook: “It’s a vulgar display of violence, a tragic depiction of someone lacking anger management and humanity and a shocking example of just how wayward some teens are.” “Sharkeisha’s reaction to a petty dispute over, likely, a boy who didn’t care about either of these girls is a clear-cut case of assault.” “This isn’t funny. At all. This isn’t entertainment to get through the workday. The way that girl was kicked in the face could have resulted in her death.” Sharkeisha Victim Speaks Out! Sharkeisha victim Shamichael Manuel told KHOU-TV that Sharkeisha used to be her friend before this, and that she was invited over after school. Little did she know she would be assaulted in cowardly fashion. She says she was set up by Sharkeisha and others, punched and kicked when she wasn’t even looking in what was a pathetic act of senseless brutality. VOTE: Should Sharkeisha be arrested for this attack?   Yes. Look at what she did! No. She deserves a similar cowardly beating instead. No. It’s between the two of them. Everybody just back off … View Poll »

Knockout Game: Teens Try to Drop Strangers With One Punch, Apocalypse Nigh

A rash of new “knockout game” incidents, in which teens assault strangers with the goal of knocking them out in one punch, have surfaced in recent weeks. Community leaders are calling for an end to the violence after teenagers in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia have been caught on camera. Their violent actions have led to hospitalizations, and even deaths. Knockout Game Approaching strangers and knocking them to the ground with one punch to the face or head, the brutal violence is all in the name of a game called “Knockout.” The “game” has also spread to Massachusetts, Illinois and Missouri. A woman was approached eight males on bikes last week when one reached out, punched her in the head and rode away, NBC’s News4 reported. A 78-year-old woman fell victim to the pavement 10 days ago in Brooklyn, making her ninth purported “Knockout” victim in New York this year. Authorities are investigating the senseless attacks as hate crimes, as some of the attacks appear to have targeted members of the Jewish community. The alarming trend gained national attention back in May after a 51-year-old man actually died in Syracuse, N.Y., thanks to a group of teenagers. In the same month, a 20-year-old man was sentenced to 55 years in prison after he similarly struck and killed a man in St. Louis back in 2011. NBC10 in Philadelphia also reports that the online trend #SmackCam uses the Vine app to capture people being unexpectedly slapped in the face. What started out as a (mostly) playful game spawned by boredom turned awry as more violent depictions of the game began popping up on social media. Compilation videos on YouTube, such as this one below, are very popular: SmackCam Compilation Clearly, a pie to the face and skull-crushing blow to the back of the head from a stranger are different things. But is #SmackCam a gateway of sorts? Regardless, what does it say about society if “knockout” is even a game?

Hate Crimes: Gay Pittsburgh Man And His Boyfriend Left Bloodied After Being Brutally Beaten For Showing Public Affection

STOP the violence… Gay Pittsburgh Couple Brutally Attacked For Showing PDA As hate-motivated acts of violence continue to see a rise throughout the United States, a gay Pittsburgh man is demanding that his attackers be charged with hate crime after he and his boyfriend were brutally beaten for being affectionate in public. via Huffington Post Police are investigating an alleged Oct. 6 assault on a Pennsylvania-based gay man and his boyfriend as a possible hate crime. As CBS reports, Ben Stoviak and his boyfriend Aaron were leaving Remedy Bar in Pittsburgh, Penn. when a group of men allegedly began yelling homophobic and derogatory comments at the couple. Stoviak contextualized the event in a post on his Facebook page: Last night, a group of men attacked me and my boyfriend on Butler Street in Lawrenceville. After yelling, from across the street, “Faggot!” at us, I replied, “yes, we’re faggots!” Immediately after, the group of men ran across the street and began hitting, kicking, and stomping me. The mark on my right cheek is a bootprint. Aaron threw himself on top of me to discourage them from continuing the assault, but they began kicking him in the head, as well… I don’t ask you to cheer on my romantic and sexual lives. I do, however, expect people not to act violently against one another because they do not share tastes and preferences. A group of patrons from a neighboring bar called authorities when they witnessed the alleged violent attack occurring in front of Remedy. When police arrived, Stoviak was reportedly bloodied with multiple welts and bruises covering his face, according to WXPI. Stoviak reportedly believes that the attack only occurred because him and his partner were being affectionate with one another, and wants police to treat the case as a hate crime. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but attacking another person simply because you don’t like or care to see something that they are doing in public is NEVER acceptable.

Jesus Take The Wheel: 1-Year-Old Toddler Killed In New Orleans When Baby-Sitter Is Shot Twice While Holding Her!

There aren’t enough kleenex in the world to prepare you for this one… 1-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead While Walking With Babysitter In New Orleans Via NYDailyNews A city is looking for answers after a one-year-old New Orleans girl was gunned down in the arms of her babysitter while they were on a walk down a city street late this week. Little Londyn Samuels was killed after a bullet continued through the back of her 18-year-old nanny on Thursday night, leaving the babysitter wounded, but in stable condition as of Saturday. The two had been on a stroll through Central City, when shots rang out around 8:20pm. NBC News reports that there were two shots fired, both passing through the babysitter’s torso and into baby Londyn. She was able to frantically call Londyn’s father, 20-year-old Keion Reed, alerting him that his little daughter was shot. Her mother, Andrea Samuels, 22, broke down crying when she heard the news, family members told WWLTV. “She was my world, she was everything, she was my reason for getting up in the morning,” the grief-stricken father later told the station. Family members told the Times-Picayune that Londyn was just learning how to walk. “She used to stand on her feet and try to wiggle,” her aunt, Euneka McGee, 20, told the paper. Lord Jesus… According to the Times-Picayune, the NOPD has taken in a man and a woman for questioning, and are searching for a second man in regard to the shooting. The city’s mayor, Mitch Landrieu, told NBC News that the violence must be quashed. “When a young man kills a child in the arms of an 18-year-old, we have to take it to a new level,” he said. R.I.P. Londyn Samuels. We can’t even imagine the pain that this family is feeling right now, our thoughts and prayers are with them.
