Virgin Galactic, the rocket ship owned by Richard Branson on which many celebrities had planned to blast off into space, crashed this afternoon in California’s Mojave Desert. Reports indicate that one co-pilot died in the accident, while others were seriously injured and at least one individual airlifted to a local hospital. Reads a statement released by Virgin: “Virgin Galactic’s partner Scaled Composites conducted a powered test flight of SpaceShipTwo earlier today. During the test, the vehicle suffered a serious anomaly resulting in the loss of the vehicle.” The names of those on board at the time of the accident have not been released. Branson confirmed the tragedy on Twitter, writing: “Thoughts with all @virgingalactic & Scaled, thanks for all your messages of support. I’m flying to Mojave immediately to be with the team.” Virgin Galactic had planned for years to sell trips in which the vehicle transports passengers approximately 62 miles above Earth, allowing them to experience a few minutes of weightlessness before returning to ground. In June of last year, Justin Bieber said that he and manager Scooter Braun had signed on to take one of the $250,000-a-person commercial suborbital flights, even claiming he would love to film a video in space. Also, Lady Gaga had said she hoped to board a Virgin Galactic flight in 2015 and perform a song as part of the Zero G Colony music festival. Weather does not appear to have been a factor in today’s crash, as the rocket had successfully separated from its carrier plane during all of its 34 previous flights. Our thoughts go out to the victims on board.

Both have histories of dating fellow celebs: Kat recently broke up with 2 Broke Girls co-star Nick Zano. (Although there’s apparently no truth to the rumor that Dennings dated Drake .) For his part, Groban’s been romantically linked to Katy Perry and Mad Men star January Jones. (Although his most impressive accomplishment remains his musical rendition of the best Kanye tweets .) This isn’t a couple that anyone saw coming, and their names don’t lend themselves to a good mash-up (Gronnings? Jane the Virgin centers around… a girl named Jane who is a virgin. It stars breakout actress Gina Rodriguez as a young women driven to become a teacher and maybe someday a writer, while supporting herself as a new Miami hotel. She watches telenovelas with her mother and her grandmother and she has a slightly unrealistic view of romance, though it’s one respected and supported her her fiancé, Michael: Jane is going to save herself until marriage. She has her life mostly mapped out and it’s mostly going very well until she receives some unsettling news: During a check-up with her physician, Jane learns she was accidentally artificially inseminated with a specimen meant for someone else. Don’t you just hate it when that happens! As a result, Jane is faced with the most important decisions she’ll ever make. Will she keep the baby? Where will things possibly go now?!? It’s as if Jane is now living inside the telenovelas she has always loved. But that’s not where she wants to be. While many may have been turned off and/or confused by the titled “Jane the Virgin,” we sincerely hope they have the premiere a shot. Jane the Virgin Season 1 Episode 1 was funny, sentimental, touching, surprising and generally a hoot to watch. And Gina Rodriguez is an absolute star. Remember her name, folks. She’s the real deal.
