Fair or foul??? Dr. William R. Harvey Disapproves Of BET’s “The Quad” While some people are entranced by BET’s “The Quad” and its HBCU based storytelling, others think it’s an absolute disgrace, timed to shame historically black institutions during black history month. In particular, the President of a certain prominent historically black college is none too pleased with BET’s new show. Dr. William R. Harvey, the longstanding President of Virginia’s Hampton University , sent a scathing letter out to Debra Lee and BET for “The Quad”, the new series that depicts HBCU culture at “Georgia A&M University.” According to Harvey it’s a poor representation of historically black colleges because the drama centers around “unethical behavior” including sex and drugs and the fictitious school is driven almost solely by the band program. “Devoid of any reference to academics, The Quad is about a president who is promiscuous, trustees who are unwilling to deal with a rogue band director, and a band director who condones criminal activity on the part of his drum major.,” wrote Harvey according to HBCU Digest who obtained copies of the 3-page letter. “The Quad will lead many to believe that HBCUs exist because of their marching bands; that our presidents are unethical; that our boards are dysfunctional and have misplaced priorities; that our faculty, students and administrators are driven by sex, alcohol, marijuana, low self-esteem, parties and a preoccupation with music; that it is acceptable to disrespect women; that university policy can be set by a band director; and that there are no standards of conduct or penalties for bad behavior. Doctor Harvey also went on to call it “fake news” and said that its February debut is especially offensive. “We cannot afford this kind of storytelling,” wrote Harvey. “It amounts to the type of ‘fake news’ that is prevalent today. You see, all that most people know about HBCUs is what they see on television. What I saw on BET February 1st was not accurate; rather, it was a bogus representation of very important and historic institutions.” Dr. Harvey is known for his strong opinions, he previously defended Talladega College for performing during Trump’s inauguration. Check out the show description from Variet y: “Claws” follows the rise of five diverse and treacherous manicurists working at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon in South Florida, where there is a lot more going on than silk wraps and pedicures. At the center is salon owner Desna (Nash), who lives with and cares for her mentally ill twin brother, Dean (Perrineau). Desna’s staff includes best friend Jennifer (Lyon), a tenuously sober ex-party girl raising two children from previous relationships; Quiet Ann (Reyes), Desna’s enigmatic driver who also provides security for the salon; Polly (Preston), a mild-mannered preppy who recently served time in prison for identity theft; and Virginia (Tran), who makes no effort to hide her boredom and impatience with her job. Adding chaos to the Nail Artisan mix is Roller (Kesy), a gangstered-out redneck who runs a barely legal pain clinic and uses Desna’s nail salon to launder the obscene profits; Bryce (Rankin), Jennifer’s husband who is also newly sober and trying to stay legit by working as an abundance coach; and Dr. Ken Brickman (Antoon), a bona fide doctor at a decidedly un-bona fide and illegal drug clinic.

Well, we hate to break it you (although you really should’ve figured it out from the headline), but you’ve come to the wrong place! Doomsday Clock Moves Closer to Midnight In case you’re not familiar with the Doomsday Clock, rest assured that it’s every bit as terrifying as it sounds. Started in 1947 by The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ Science and Security Board (If that’s too much to remember, just think, “really smart people.”), the clock is meant to serve as a indicator of how close we are to the end of the world. Today, it inched forward 30 seconds, bringing it to 11:57:30, the closest it’s been to midnight since 1953, when both the U.S. and Soviet Union tested hydrogen bombs. (In case symbolism isn’t your strong suit, midnight on the Doomsday Clock equals ka-blooey.) Today’s move has been described as “unprecedented,” and not surprisingly, it has more than a little to do with the election of Donald Trump . “Make no mistake, this has been a difficult year,” Rachel Bronson, executive director and publisher of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists In its official statement about how colossally f–ked we all are, the board had this to say: ” Over the course of 2016, the global security landscape darkened as the international community failed to come effectively to grips with humanity’s most pressing existential threats, nuclear weapons and climate change … “This already-threatening world situation was the backdrop for a rise in strident nationalism worldwide in 2016, including in a U.S. presidential campaign during which the eventual victor, Donald Trump, made disturbing comments about the use and proliferation of nuclear weapons and expressed disbelief in the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change .” So there you have it folks. We’re a little bit closer to the end of the world, and darn it, if those pesky Russians aren’t involved again. It’s been all down with them since Yakov Smirnoff blew up, but electing their brutal dictator’s BFF as our president probably didn’t help matters. Donald Trump's America is a scary place. It's one in which Muslims feel scared to walk the streets and facts lose all semblance of importance and actual meaning. But it's still a place in which adorable animals reside, and where these adorable animals can still put a smile on the faces of all who gawk at them. We were reminded of this non-alternative fact after the Washington, D.C. zoo Tweeted a photo of a four-day-old female seal pup in order to announce the little guy's birth. From there, a Norfolk, Virginia woman threw the down the gauntlet, challenging the Virginia Aquarium to give us its most precious example of a resident. And then back and forth the places went, until citizens were once again given a reason to remain hopeful about the country in which they live… 1. Teen Mom 2 star Jeremy Calvert is setting the record straight. In an exclusive interview with The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Leah Messer’s ex-husband discusses his recent beef with the MTV show. Moreover, he confirms that is engagement to Brooke Wehr is back on, despite the cryptic break-up posts that he posted to his Instagram. “Everyone fights and bickers; we had a petty breakup for a few days,” Jeremy told The Ashley. “We are trying to make things work.” “We are trying to figure out a game plan for where we will live. She’s the only female I’ve ever brought around my daughter.” “I feel comfortable with her around Addie,” the reluctant star adds, “and Brooke is going to be a great stepmom for my child.” While he confirms that Brooke did (briefly) break up with Jeremy Calvert , they are back on and committed to one another. Figuring out a living arrangement (he owns a home in West Virginia and Brooke lives in Ohio), put a strain on the romance. Not to mention that they’re both single parents … and the constant drama resulting when people watch Teen Mom 2 online . Calvert tells The Ashley that it’s been hard, no doubt: “Relationships aren’t easy, and they’re even more difficult when there are kids involved, and worse when there are cameras involved.” “Yeah… so… ignore all those breakup posts, OK?” Calvert says that there’s “no wedding date planned” at this point, as they try to work through and settle into their “living situation and routine.” Given everything going on, that’s probably wise. Regarding the recent Teen Mom 2 scene that set him off – and led Jeremy to slam Leah Messer – he says it’s important to hear his side. “I texted Leah to tell her I’m going to Ohio, because we had no running water [in West Virginia because of the flooding],” Jeremy said. “I wanted to spend time with my kid in a non-disaster area!” “Anyone who thinks that is stupid, sorry. I do not need to check with my ex-wife to see if it’s OK if I take my daughter to Ohio on my weekend with Addie.” “Leah thinks she gets to be in control, that I should have to ask her for permission for everything to do with Addie, and that she gets the final answer.” “That’s just not how it’s going to go,” he pointedly adds. As for how things are going with Leah? “I text Leah every day to ask about Addie and her school, the normal dad stuff, and that’s it. We don’t talk about anything else,” he says. “Things are for sure rocky right now. We are on speaking terms, but that’s about it. I don’t talk to Leah about anything other than Addie.” “I don’t give a damn what’s she doing in her own life. I could say a lot more about Leah, but I don’t, because of my daughter.” Wow. As for how MTV is reacting to his Instagram rants about the show’s editing, Calvert says “MTV has not reached out,” but if they did? “I don’t give a damn. I’m going to do it every Monday.” “I’m not just trying to create drama. If they show something positive on an episode, I’ll say it was positive,” he says of his motives. “And if there’s something that they air that makes me look like an a–hole, I’ll say that. I’m not going to hide behind a cell phone to protect my ass.” “I’m not trying to [have people] look past anything I do wrong,” he says, rather, “I just want to put the real story out there.” “When you’re married to [one of the Teen Moms], they make you look good. Jeremy Calvert has a few things to say to Leah Messer. A few angry and bitter things to say to Leah Messer, we should clarify. As those who watch Teen Mom 2 online or on television witnessed this week, tension ran unusually high between Jeremy and Leah. The parents of three-year old daughter Adalynn divorced back in 2015, but had been on relatively amicable terms until recently. Not any longer, and it appears the reality show is to blame. Calvert, who recently called out MTV for manipulating footage and ruining lives through editing, went off on TM2 and his ex-wife. Jeremy was not pleased about Messer’s interpretation of his actions, making it look like he practically kidnapped their child. As depicted on Monday’s episode, Calvert took Adalynn on a trip to Ohio , failing to answer any phone calls or texts from Leah. The incident took place after Messer’s hometown of Elkview, West Virginia, suffered a major flood. Here’s where it gets a little complicated: While Messer’s house fortunately came out of the natural disaster unscathed, Calvert’s family residence in Ohio was significantly damaged. Jeremy therefore left South Dakota, where he had been working as a pipeline engineer, to return home and help out his folks. He had Adalynn with him at the time, and Leah claimed she was left in the dark when it came to her child’s whereabouts. “We’re supposed to get another flash-flood warning, and she’s in another city and I know nothing!” she screamed at one point. Leah later said Jeremy “lied” when confronted about this But now Calvert has taken to Instagram to tell his side of the story, which he says is just another case of MTV stirring up drama. “So, to clarify tonight’s episode about me leaving West Virginia and not informing Leah on my travels,” the reality star captioned a video clip. Jeremy Calvert Clarifies Teen Mom 2 Scene “I texted her at 6:42 pm and did not get a text message back until 9:38 pm when I was already in Ohio.” He continued in his attempt to escape blame: “I am not waiting around 3 hours for my ex-wife to respond to me and say yes you can take our child to Ohio or not during a disaster.” “We didn’t have no water, electricity and everything was flooded, debris everywhere. “So, no, I was trying to spend some quality time with my daughter while I had a chance to be home from South Dakota even though it was a complete nightmare trip and everybody lost everything.” “So, I tried my best to communicate.” “I can’t help if somebody don’t answer their phone, read text messages or whatever situation may be on that behalf. I can only do what I can do.” Jeremy Calvert Goes Off on Teen Mom 2 Editing “The phone conversations you all saw tonight took [place] a week later when I was already back in West Virginia,” he continues. Unlike how it looks, he was “packing my clothes, getting ready to go back to work in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.” “Therefore MTV, all they want to do is stir the pot and cause more drama that was unnecessary.” “Because we had already hashed out the issues, but they wanted to bring it back up,” he says. “So they have some good drama for TV for you all to watch and get your own opinions about and get the ratings through the roof.” “So there you go on that bunch of bulls–t.” It doesn’t sound as though this will be the last time we hear from Calvert on this topic, which he has promised to refute on a line-item basis. “As a repercussion for deceitful editing, I will address each scene with what really happened,” he told Instagram followers earlier this month, adding: “I appreciate all of your support over the years.” He has not addressed rumors that Jeremy Calvert and Brooke Wehr broke up earlier this month after getting engaged last fall. Messer, meanwhile, seems unfazed by her ex-husband’s complaints and rants, or is certainly trying to put on a positive front. On Tuesday night, she shared a meme that reads “Don’t let anyone rent a space in your head, unless they’re a good tenant.” Determined not to let either Jeremy bring her down or criticism over her parenting affect her, Messer wrote the following as a caption to this message: Becoming aware of who and what impacts you positively and negatively is essential to learning how to choose to feel good. She stopped by the Missouri home of Cyrus Porter, a 96-year old World War II veteran who has attended numerous Taylor Swift shows, driving to St. Louis and Memphis simply to see her in musical action. Porter has been diagnosed with cancer and hadn’t been sure if he’d be able to see another Swift concert in 2017. So when Taylor learned of this story and this fan, she made it her mission to pay Porter a visit. While at Porter’s home, Swift posted for photos with over 60 family members, thrilling those who simply could not believe their eyes or their ears. (Yes, their ears .
