Trey Songz Calls Out R. Kelly (Again) In Vibe Cover Story

‘R. Kelly took Aaron Hall’s whole style,’ Songz says after his sound is compared to Kelly’s. By Jayson Rodriguez Trey Songz Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Trey Songz might have denied that there’s a beef between him and R. Kelly — whom he’s regularly criticized in song and interviews — but that doesn’t mean they share a friendly relationship. In the upcoming April/May issue of Vibe, Songz again talks about Kelly, accusing him of jacking R&B singer/songwriter Aaron Hall’s style. The “Say Aah” singer admits he’s done the same with Kelly’s style, injecting some of the embattled star’s subtleties into his music. The result, Songz’s Ready album, is his most successful project to date. “People say, ‘Well, I hear a lot of R. Kelly in your music.’ So what?” Songz told the magazine, which hits newsstands April 13 “R. Kelly took Aaron Hall’s whole style. Two albums straight. … You can say what you want about me.” The Virginia native lashed out against Kelly on a mixtape for the singer’s use of Auto-Tune, claiming he was chasing trends instead of paving the way. The pair have been tossing barbs at each other since an upstart Songz remixed Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet” single before the singer decided to make a full-scale series of “Closet” songs. In Trey Songz’s version, he responded as the man in the closet hiding from what was taking place between Kelly and his wife. Kelly then released part two, and in his version, the man in the closet reveals himself to be gay. Since then, Songz has been vocal with his disdain for Kelly. Kelly struck back in an interview, saying the younger singer should “be very careful.” In the meantime, Trey Songz is flourishing as a part of Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour. He’s the opener and also sings during Jay’s set. In December, he told MTV News that during the trip, he, Jay-Z and Young Jeezy are working on music together. “It’s definitely all in the talks,” he said. “It’s the Mob Squad. Me, Jay, Jeezy, we plan on working together while we on this tour, because the energy we have together when we get around each other is amazing. And like I said, all aspects like that on a record is amazing. Maybe while we out on the road we get it done.” What do think about Trey Songz’s comments? Whose side are you on: Trey’s or R. Kelly’s? Kentucky vs West Virginia: Battle of the Top 2

Only one region in this year’s NCAA Tournament has gone chalk and that’s the East, where No. 1 Kentucky will face No. 2 West Virginia on Saturday night in Syracuse for a trip to the Final Four. Other than a bit of a slow start, Kentucky (35-2, 20-15 ATS) didn’t have much trouble with Cornell on Thursday night in a 62-45 victory. The Cats have yet to have a game this tournament that was decided by less than the 17 points they beat Cornell by. Kentucky hasn’t been in the Final Four since winning its last national title in 1998. West Virginia (30-6, 16-19 ATS) didn’t miss injured starting point guard Darryl “Truck” Bryant too much in its 69-56 over Washington on Thursday (it will Saturday). Kevin Jones stepped up with star Da’Sean Butler having an off night, with Jones scoring 18 points with eight rebounds. WVU committed an uncharacteristic 23 turnovers with different guys now handling the ball – the Mountaineers entered averaging just 11.6 turnovers per game. It was the first time West Virginia had committed more than 20 turnovers in a game this season. If WVU’s turnover problems show up again and Butler doesn’t come up big against Kentucky, then WVU is toast. But the Mountaineers also are playing terrific on defense, not having allowed a team to score 60 points since the end of the regular season. WVU is 13-0 this season when holding a foe under 60. This is the fourth time a Bob Huggins-coached team has reached the Elite Eight, with Hugs going 1-2 in the previous three. Saturday’s game could well come down to rebounding. WVU, which is second in the nation in offensive rebounding, killed Washington on boards and is 25-3 this year when outrebounding its opponent. But with Patrick Patterson, DeMarcus Cousins and Daniel Orton, among others, Kentucky is a very good rebounding team and will have the size advantage in the frontcourt. Surely, this will be an exciting match that will rival the anticipated watching of the UFC 111 live stream that night. We wish both team good luck. DMX Sentenced To Six Months For Probation Violation

Rapper tested positive for cocaine use. By Gil Kaufman DMX (file) Photo: Jason Kempin/FilmMagic DMX was sentenced to six months in an Arizona jail on Tuesday for violating his probation by using drugs. The rapper (born Earl Simmons), who has been in jail since his arrest on March 9 for five counts of probation violation, admitted to a single violation for failing a court-mandated drug test last June and testing positive for cocaine, according to The Arizona Republic. Though she could have sent him to prison for the infringement, Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner Christine Mulleneaux reinstated X’s probation over the objections of the prosecutor. In addition to ordering him to spend six months in jail, Mulleneaux said the troubled rapper must undergo a mental health evaluation to search for possible underlying psychological issues that might be driving his need to self-medicate. She said he could be released earlier if he is accepted into a court-approved drug rehabilitation program. As a result, X seemed destined to be the next star to land on the VH1 reality show “Celebrity Rehab,” as he’s already been accepted by the Pasadena Recovery Center, which is the setting for the show hosted by addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky. But show staffer Will Smith told the paper that the “Party Up” rapper would not join the cast of “Rehab” because he is destined for a lockdown facility. “He’s looking at nine months to a year of treatment,” Smith said. Where Simmons, 39, ends up depends on whether California allows him to serve out his intensive probation in the state, a sentence that will keep him under virtual house arrest until December. If not, X may have to undergo the Maricopa County Sheriff’s substance-abuse treatment program at the jail where he is currently incarcerated. The rapper’s attorney, Glenn Allen, told the court that his client was “desperately trying to get hold of his demons” and beat the long-running drug addiction problems that have plagued him for several years and derailed a once-promising acting and music career, which included a record as the only artist in SoundScan history to have his first four albums debut at #1. In court, Mulleneaux told X that she believed he was sincere but needs treatment. Since 1999, X has been arrested more than half a dozen times for drug and weapon possession, false identity charges, theft and animal cruelty charges. Related Artists DMX

Kings Of Leon Announce Summer Tour Dates

Grammy winners will follow up the tour with a new album before year’s end. By Joel Hanek Kings of Leon’s Caleb Folliwell Photo: Simone Joyner/Getty Images Kings of Leon are heading out on the road in continuing support of their massive 2008 release, Only by Night. The Followill boys will be heading across the country from June to late September, including headlining spots at the 2010 Bonnaroo festival and a quick trip across the pond for the V Festival in the U.K. on August 21 and 22. If news of a tour isn’t enough to please fans, the band also has a new album in the works for later this year. “We’re going to start writing and rehearsing new stuff, and then we’ll go in the studio and see what happens,” bassist Matthew Followill told MTV News at this year’s Grammy Awards . Guitarist Jared Followill clarified that the album will most likely see a September or October release date. This has been a good year for the Kings of Leon. Not only has their fourth studio album, Only by Night, garnered platinum status, but the quartet went back to their native Nashville as Grammy winners for the second consecutive year in a row, picking up trophies for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Record of the Year. While opening acts have not been announced as of press time, Kings of Leon have posted the tour dates on their official Web site :

Justice’s wife launches ‘tea party’ group

The nonprofit run by Virginia Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, is likely to test notions of political impartiality for the court. Reporting from Washington As Virginia Thomas tells it in her soft-spoken, Midwestern cadence, the story of her involvement in the “tea party” movement is the tale of an average citizen in action. “I am an ordinary citizen from Omaha, Neb., who just may have the chance to preserve liberty along with you and other people like you,” she said at a recent panel discussion with tea party leaders in Washington. Thomas went on to count herself among those energized into action by President Obama's “hard-left agenda.” But Thomas is no ordinary activist. She is the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and she has launched a tea-party-linked group that could test the traditional notions of political impartiality for the court. In January, Virginia Thomas created Liberty Central Inc., a nonprofit lobbying group whose website will organize activism around a set of conservative “core principles,” she said. New Apostolic Reformation, Sarah Palin, and the Prayer Warriors who are waging a spiritual war on America.

NAR’s (New Apostolic Reformation) videos, according to researcher Rachel Tabachnick, “demonstrate the taking control of communities and nations through large networks of ‘prayer warriors’ whose spiritual warfare is used to expel and destroy the demons that cause societal ills. Once the territorial demons, witches, and generational curses are removed, the ‘born-again’ Christians in the videos take control of society.” The movement’s notion of “spiritual warfare” has spread from the California suburbs to an East-Coast inner city, and has impacted policy decisions in the developing world. Movement operatives are well-connected enough to have testified before Congress and to have received millions of dollars in government abstinence-only sex-education grants, and bizarre enough to maintain that in its prototype communities, the movement has healed AIDS, purified polluted streams and even grown huge vegetables. Leaders in the NAR movement refer to themselves as “apostles.” In the days leading up to the historic vote on health-care reform in the Senate, Apostle Lou Engle led the Family Research Council’s “Prayercast” against health-care reform, a Webcast featuring Republican Senators Jim DeMint (S.C.) and Sam Brownback (Kans.), and Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.). Earlier in the year, Engle, who leads the group TheCall, prayed over Newt Gingrich at a Virginia event called Rediscovering God in America. In 2008, Engle, at an event he staged at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium, advocated acts of Christian martyrdom to end abortion and same-sex marriage. This “apostle” claims LGBT people are possessed by demons. And Engle is not the only NAR apostle with political connections. Presidential campaign watchers got their first taste of the New Apostolic Reformation when it was revealed that Sarah Palin, while mayor of Wasilla, had been prayed over in a laying-on-of-hands by Rev. Thomas Muthee of Kenya, director of the NAR East Africa Spiritual Warfare Network, in a ceremony designed to protect Palin from witches and demons. Muthee, it turns out, is famous in his native land for driving out of town a woman he deemed a witch, a charge that had her neighbors calling for her stoning. Palin, according to Alaskan Apostle Mary Glazier, became part of her prayer network at the age of 24. Wasilla is no stranger to wandering NAR leaders. Last June, Apostle Lance Wallnau stopped through in the course of his world travels, promoting the movement’s Reclaiming the Seven Mountains of Culture campaign at Wasilla Alaska Assembly of God Church — the very church at which Muthee laid hands on Palin. (The “seven mountains” are the realms of business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, the family and religion.) Other NAR luminaries dropping by Wasilla last year include leading international Apostles Naomi Dowdy and Dutch Sheets. Sarah Palin’s threat to our country is not due to her burgeoning intellect, oratory skills, or leadership ability. It is that she is malleable enough, and with enough natural charisma, to be a perfect figurehead for marginalized groups to use in an effort to further their agenda. Because of this chameleon like ability to reflect the philosophy’s of these disaffected Americans she has been supported by groups as politically disparate as the AIP , the Republican party, and the Teabaggers. However Palin’s connection to the Evangelical movement since the day she was baptized in Little Beaver Lake has been the one connection that has not been just for show or to further her ambitions. In fact it may be the catalyst behind Sarah’s political aspirations and desire to front a powerful political movement. While many see Sarah’s naked ambitions as fulfilling an emptiness inside of her, I think that she is actually completely convinced that she is a vessel through which God is working to bring this nation closer to Him. In other words Sarah believes she has already filled that emptiness with her faith, and is now willing to do anything to fulfill what she sees as her destiny. (Of course those of us carefully observing Palin realize that she is only barely holding things together and that the emptiness within is in danger of consuming her in the not too distant future.) Palin’s ability to attract these angry frustrated people makes her especially dangerous. She demonstrated that threat while on the campaign trail with McCain. She was able to plant a few conspiratorial seeds about Barack Obama back then that have matured into fully realized and well established conspiracy theories. Sarah’s wider influence has diminished greatly, but it has only hardened among a certain population. Every time anybody, myself included, dare to make a joke or reveal some flaw about Sarah Palin the attacks come fast and furious. She plays the victim and they rise to protect her, from the talking heads at Fox News, to political pundits like Pat Buchanan, to Palin supporting bloggers, they receive their marching orders and they charge into battle on her behalf. But while many of them (especially Fox News) believe they are using her to further their agenda, she is also using them to further hers.

PETA Billboard to Mock Tiger Woods’ Sex Life

Never one to shy away from controversy, exhibit good taste or achieve anything of significance for their alleged cause, PETA is planning a new Tiger Woods ad. Unlike most PETA ads, which show celebrities espousing pet adoption, not wearing fur, etc., this one uses the Tiger Woods scandal as a PR-grabbing punchline. The billboard, planned for directly in the embattled golf star’s neighborhood, no less, will ostensibly promote PETA’s mission of spaying and neutering pets. In reality, though, it’s just a cheap shot at Tiger Woods … Needless to say, PETA created this without Tiger Woods’ blessing. “Too Much Sex Can Be a Bad Thing… for little tigers, too. Help keep your cats (and dogs) out of trouble: Always spay or neuter,” the waste of space group says. While THG will never be Woods apologists (unlike this guy ), we are once again struck by how low PETA will go for attention, and what little it accomplishes. According to the Orlando Sentinel , the only hitch is that PETA needs a billboard company who will agree to put up the sign … and that could be a tall order. “It’s a fun, tongue-in-cheek approach. We hope these billboard companies will understand,” Virginia Fort, a campaigner with PETA, told the paper of the ad. Fort also suggested, ridiculously, that Woods would “appreciate” it, since it’s in good fun and

The Weird Weirdos Accused of Murdering Robert Wone

Last summer, the Washington Post delved into the murder of Robert Wone , an ambitious D.C. lawyer who was allegedly killed by three well-to-do gay friends in a polyamourous sadomasochistic relationship. Something called the “EROSTEK ET302R electrical shockwave generator” was involved. Wone, a politically ambitious 32-year-old lawyer for Radio Free Asia, was stabbed to death in the million-dollar townhouse owned by his college friend Joseph Price in 2006. While Wone was straight and married, Price (above, right) lived with his husband Victor Zaborsky (left), an ad executive, and his lover Dylan Ward (center), who played the dominant role in their sadomasochistic relationship. Price, Zaborsky, and Ward say Wone was staying over at their house when an intruder broke in and stabbed him. Prosecutors say they lured Wone there, drugged him, and got into to some really strange sex play. What kind of sex play? The kind that involves the EROSTEK ET302R, which is, according to newly filed documents in the case —prosecutors have charged the three men with obstruction of justice, and the homicide investigation continues—an electro-ejaculation device that was found in Price and Zaborsky’s home, along with a staggering array of extremely avant garde sex toys. Investigators found semen on and around Wone’s anus, but the strange thing is that it was his own semen . So they theorized that Zaborsky, Price, and Ward drugged him and used the EROSTEK to, um, milk him. When he died of an overdose, they suspect, they staged a stabbing and invented an intruder as a cover-up. The whole thing is strange beyond measure, not least because the three accused men were all highly successful and seemingly the picture of upper-class gay propriety: Price was a prominent attorney and co-founder of a Virginia gay rights group; Zaborsky was one of the marketing executives behind the “Got Milk?” campaign; and Ward was a Georgetown grad. And they lived together as a self-described “family” and had a veritable dungeon full of stuff like this, from prosecutors’ newly filed evidence tally: Not to mention books like, Juice: Electricity for Pain and Pleasure : [Photos via Who Murdered Robert Wone ?]
