Random Ridiculousness: Texas LGBT Legislator Doesn’t Believe In “Gender Binaries,” Says She’s A “Pansexual”…Not Gay!

LGBT Texas Legislator Comes Out As Pansexual SMH: Mary González made headlines earlier this year as Texas’ first LGBT representative, but turns out she’s neither L, G, B or T, but rather P, as in pansexual. Dubbed by media outlets as the “Latina lesbian lawmaker,” González came out as bisexual at 21 but started dating genderqueer and transgender people a few years after that, eventually coming to define herself as pansexual — meaning that gender doesn’t play a role in her sexual attraction to individuals. “As I started to recognize the gender spectrum and dated along the gender spectrum, I was searching for words that connected to that reality, for words that embraced the spectrum,” González told the Dallas Voice . “At the time I didn’t feel as if the term bisexual was encompassing of a gender spectrum that I was dating and attracted to.” Though she identified as pansexual during her campaign, she chose not to reveal the fact, fearing it would “have overwhelmed everyone.” It was easier for González to identify as gay or lesbian, rather than pansexual or queer, though she faced criticism from both the mainstream media and the LGBT community for her varied romantic history. González insists however that she has always been honest about her relationships “with men or with women or even with transfolk.” Now 29 and getting ready to serve in the House of Representatives next year, González wanted to clarify her orientation because ”gender identity isn’t the defining part of [her] attraction.” And if her coming-out costs González re-election, that’s fine with her: “I’ve never been concerned about getting elected or re-elected,” she told the Voice. “I’ve always been concerned about serving my district and my people and the state of Texas.” For those who are unaware… Pansexual refers to someone who is attracted to other people regardless of their gender, although other definitions can apply depending on the social group. Uhhhh….okay playa. Source

WATCH: Chris Rock On Why He Talks To An Obama Cut-out in 2 Days in New York: Rick James Wasn’t Available

Barack Obama occupies the same pantheon as late “Superfreak” singer Rick James, according to Chris Rock. In the Julie Delpy-directed 2 Days in New York , Rock plays a Village Voice writer and radio-show host who occasionally carries on one-sided conversations with a life-size cut-out of the president, and at the Cinema Society and MCM-hosted screening of the film in New York on Wednesday, the comic told Movieline pal Grace Randolph why the cardboard Commander in Chief got the nod. “He’s the first black president. You can’t really top him right now,” Rock told Randolph at the Landmark Sunshine Theater on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, adding “And it’s hard to find a cardboard cut-out of Rick James.” Randolph also spoke to Delpy and other cast members of the movie, as well as the Rev. Al Sharpton. Check out the video below. Watch It on YouTube. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

20 Years Ago Today: In Praise of 3 Ninjas

You need only utter the words “Rocky loves Em-ily” or “Light up the eyes!” to transport me to the wondrous time known as the early ’90s, when timeless classics — timeless, I say ! — such as Touchstone’s tale of Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum opened up new worlds for 11-year-old me . Hollywood.com’s Michael Arbeiter knows what I’m talking about: “[As] rich and dense as the history of the ninja might be, it wasn’t until the date of August 7, 1992, exactly twenty years ago today, that the identity of the Japanese spy and soldier really hit its potential in terms of relevance in the canon of American film. For on this date, the great Jon Turtletaub bequeathed unto the world his third directorial feature: 3 Ninjas .” Preach . Thanks to Arbeiter for bringing this ’90s kid-cinema essential back into the conversation with his open letter ( 3 Ninjas: 20 Years Later ? Sign me up!), which today rekindled my decades-long love affair with the 1992 ninja pic. Oh, who am I kidding? That flame never went out. A few years back I committed my 3 Ninjas love to the internet in an ode to star Michael Treanor, archived at the old Cinematical , but my passion for the erstwhile Rocky endures: Treanor, 13-years-old when 3 Ninjas debuted, played Rocky with a fresh-scrubbed, clear-eyed honesty and one heckuva smile. It helped that cinematographer Richard Michelak shot his preteen actors in the dreamiest light possible (he also lensed White Wolves: A Cry in the Wild II , AKA White Wolves: The One With Mark-Paul Gosselaar ). And that Rocky protected his little brothers and never gave up, even when all seemed lost. When Colt wanted to karate chop the mean kids at school, who was the voice of reason who calmed him down? Rocky. When idiot surfer-kidnappers invaded the boys’ house, who came up with the plan to take them down, Home Alone -style? Rocky did. Most of all, I loved Treanor because he rocked a dreamy, short on the sides/long in the front early ’90s hairdo that stayed perfectly coiffed even when Rocky ninja-jumped ten feet into the air to dunk on a pair of bullies in a basketball game to win his girlfriend’s bicycle back! Which brings me to the bane of my eleven-year-old existence: Rocky’s girlfriend, Emily. Ugh, Emily. The worst. It took a good few decades for me to get over my Emily-hate; it helped that by High Noon at Mega-Mountain , Rocky had wisened up and gotten himself a girlfriend named Jennifer, even if by that fourquel I’d already moved on to Team Colt. But I digress! Happy 20th, 3 Ninjas . Hollywood never quite made ’em like they made you. (Except for all those sequels. And those other ’90s kid flicks I wore out on VHS.) So good. So ’90s. The best thing Turteltaub ever made, and yes, that includes Cool Runnings . Never forget. [ Hollywood.com ]

My Bieber experience began at 6am. I was running off of 4 hours…

My Bieber experience began at 6am. I was running off of 4 hours sleep, as I was at my friend’s birthday the night before. My wonderful mum drove me to the airport without knowing any confirmation about his arrival time and where he was coming from exactly. We waited at the airport until 9 and there was no sign of him. We drove back home, then came back at 11. There were no girls anywhere. I asked all these security guards if they knew anything but they were all saying different things. I didn’t even know if he was in Melbourne or not. I decided to go to the Langham Hotel because of rumors that he would be staying there. There were quite a few girls camping out. I had asked a photographer that was there whether or not he knew if/when Justin would be coming. He said that it would be either here or the Olsen. After waiting for a while, I then decided to head to the Olsen. My mum and I parked the car in a car-park across the road from the hotel. I had spotted Moshe (white Kenny) entering the restaurants cafe. I ran across the road (it was a red light idgaf) and walked into the hotel. I was surprisingly calm as I walked in. Justin wasn’t in the restaurant although his crew were seated at a table eating lunch (Allison, Scrappy, Dan, Alfredo, Kenny, Vanessa). They were all looking at me weirdly except for Alfredo, he smiled . My mum and I then sat down at a table that was opposite of theirs, literally 1 meter away. I was building up the courage to ask one of the crew members for a photo and hopefully if i could see Justin. I asked Dan and I think he said after. Anyway I didn’t want to bother them so I just sat and watched quietly. Then out of no where, I hear a voice say, “Wassup.” It was Justin and Selena also followed along with Moshe. He was so close to me. He sat down at the table opposite me and I was dying, like dying, like DEAD. I didn’t know what to do. I was going to ask for a photo but he had got up. When he walked past me I said, “Hey can I get a ph-” and he said “Hi, how are you?” and he touched my arm.  I then followed him outside as he went to take photos with fans . I am so lucky that I got a photo with him as he only took about five. It was very brief. I then followed him back inside as he continue to eat his lunch and I was just in awe, sitting so close being able to hear his voice. He then had to go back to his room. That’s not the end. My mum booked a room for the night. I was staying in the same hotel as JUSTIN BIEBER. I had a plan to bump into him but the hotel security was SO annoying. We bumped into his crew quite a few times except we didn’t see him that way. We also went down to the car park. Hotel security was telling us that we had to go and we weren’t allowed there. We could see Justin’s car right in front of us. We kept stalling hoping we would see him again. Soon enough the lift opened and out walked Justin and Selena. I couldn’t believe it. He looked so hot! Although they had to go to their car, I didn’t really get to talk to him. It was so amazing though and I loved every moment of it. I will never forget this experience. We also went in a lift with Kenny and I got a photo with Moshe. Justin came out again to say hey to his fans and it was great to get another glimpse of him . Suri Cruise: I Want to Live With Daddy!

A pair of celebrity gossip tabloids apparently have their collective fingers on the pulse of all things Suri Cruise. It’s like they’re reading her every thought. According to In Touch Weekly and Star Magazine, the youngster’s thoughts on the recent bombshell Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes divorce are quite clear: Team Tom. If you believe this (dis)reputable pair of magazines, Suri Cruise was won over by her dad during his recent get-together with her – a $170,000 getaway. Possibly accompanied by Scientology chaperones, the lavish reunion clearly did the trick, with Suri allegedly pleading to be with Tom over Katie now. Suri Cruise, mind you, is six years old. Despite this fact – and that the two settled their divorce and custody pact already in a relatively amicable manner, we’re supposed to believe this? In (slightly) more comprehensible news, the stunning Yolanda Pecoraro is said to be in the running to be the next Mrs. Tom Cruise for a few years.
