Selena Gomez Fans Call Her ‘Role Model’ Material

‘There’s not many actresses that can really inspire little girls in the right way,’ one admirer says after teen star’s concert. By Kara Warner Selena Gomez Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ WireImage Despite the fact that Selena Gomez had to cancel her appearance at the Santa Monica Place mall last Friday, plenty of screaming Selena fans returned to see her rescheduled performance at the mall on Monday afternoon, where Gomez thanked the crowd for their support and revealed that she was “feeling much better” after being hospitalized briefly over the weekend. Following her two-song set, MTV News caught up with a few of Gomez’s die-hard fans, who expressed their love and well-wishes for the 18-year-old star. “I really love her,” young fan Kirsten Mitchell gushed. “I still love her voice, I still love her clothing, and I love everything she did. I love her!” “She’s my role model,” Brianna Akopyn said. “She’s my inspiration.” “It’s not only that she’s famous,” Alexa Kovacs added. “Obviously, we love her because of that, but she helps people, she does things for everything, that’s just awesome to me.” “Ever since ‘Barney,’ I used to watch her on [‘Barney & Friends’] and I’ve been with her since the beginning,” Akopyn revealed. “She’s such a great role model for everyone, including little girls. There’s not many actresses that can really inspire little girls in the right way, and she can.” Speaking to Gomez’s recent illness, Alexandra Pulido said no one could really tell that Selena had been under the weather. “I heard that she was sick over the radio back home where we live, she felt nauseated and stuff,” she said. “But she sang really well today, she didn’t show any of that.” We then asked fans to send Gomez their love via our video camera. “Hey Selena, I love you so much,” Pulido enthused. “I hope you’re doing better. Say ‘Hi’ to Justin [Bieber] for me.” “We love you so much,” Kovacs added. “Thanks for everything, keep it up.” “We hope you’re doing good,” continued Akopyn. “Keep up the good work, we love you.” “Congrats on Justin,” said Kovacs with a smile. “Yeah, he’s a lucky guy,” Akopyn added. ‘Super 8’ Takes #1 Spot At Weekend Box Office

J.J. Abrams movie is only non-sequel in the top five. By Ryan J. Downey Joel Courtney in “Super 8” Photo: Paramount “Super 8” took the #1 spot at the box office over the weekend. The film’s $37 million opening isn’t on par with recent summer blockbusters, but it did beat studio expectations, according to reports. And “Super 8” bears the distinction of being the only non-sequel in the weekend’s top five. The “Super 8” marketing campaign employed many of the tactics used to promote 2008’s “Cloverfield,” which was produced by “Super 8” writer/ director J.J. Abrams. The movie stars a cast of relative unknowns and features a plot that was largely kept hidden in the trailers. Abrams devised “Super 8” as something of an homage to the work of Steven Spielberg, who served as producer. Reviews have been largely positive. “For all its obvious touches of Spielbergia, ‘Super 8’ feels a whole lot like ‘The Iron Giant’ meets ‘Stand by Me,’ ” wrote FEARnet’s Scott Weinberg. “Super 8” was produced by Paramount, which like MTV is owned by Viacom. The weekend’s only other new movie in wide release was “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer,” a children’s film based on the widely popular series of books by Megan McDonald, who co-wrote the script. The movie opened poorly, landing at #7 with just $6.2 million. And it’s one of the worst reviewed films of the year so far, according to critical aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. “X-Men: First Class” was #2 in its second week of release with $25 million for a $98.8 million total. The superhero prequel is the best reviewed of the franchise since 2003’s “X2: X-Men United.” Meanwhile, “The Hangover Part II” passed “Fast Five” to become the highest-grossing movie of 2011 thus far. The buddy comedy took in $18.5 million for a $216.5 million domestic total. Critics have largely panned the film, although co-star Zach Galifianakis detailed plans for another sequel in a recent interview with magazine (he did not confirm his involvement). “Kung Fu Panda 2” came in at #4 at the box office. The animated sequel, which features Jack Black as the voice of the title character, took in $16.6 million for a $126.9 million total. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” was #5 with $10.8 million for a $208.7 million total. This weekend’s new releases include “Green Lantern,” starring Ryan Reynolds as the DC Comics superhero; “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” starring Jim Carrey; and the PG-13 romance “The Art of Getting By.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Super 8.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Caylee Anthony Was Murdered, Coroner Says in Court

Caylee Anthony was murdered. So stated Dr. Jan Garavaglia, a semi-famous coroner, who testified in court today during the Casey Anthony trial. The defense has been arguing that the two-year old daughter of their defendant died of an accidental drowning, but there’s “no other logical conclusion” aside from homicide, said Garavaglia, the Orange County chief medical examiner. How can Garavaglia state this as a fact? She reached the conclusion based on the condition of Caylee’s remains and other factors, including the discovery of duct tape around her skull. Casey’s attorney, Cheney Mason, tried to move Garavaglia away from her findings, but the doctor shot back: “Accidental deaths are reported unless there is a reason for it not to be… 100 percent of the time… that’s systematic observational studies.” With her voice rising, and with her testimony cutting into the defense’s key argument, Garavaglia added: “No child should have duct tape on its mouth when it dies.”

Ginger Lee, Weiner’s Weiner Recipiant’s “Work” of the Day

I don’t follow politics or porn, so I wasn’t really keeping track of who that Weiner was sending pics of his weiner to, but someone emailed me saying it was some barely hot, big nosed, trashy pornstar with Daddy Issues named Ginger Lee. I figured, I’d post some pictures of the trash, because we all need to see what makes a man attempt to ruin his career, all to get off to some porn trash, which I guess teaches us a valuable lesson, that even politicians like fucking enough to go out after the garbage they’ve been jerking off to…..It’s like some Alpha male personality trait that got them into a position of power to begin with….you know “Take what is yours”….and the whole thing is funny…cuz the bitch isn’t anything special… I mean shit, he might as well been sending dick pics to someone of value, not some hooker nonsense tryng to get in the press to stand out amongst other whores but what it comes down to is who really gives a fuck who sends dick pics to who…lets just hope it motivates some bitches to send sex pics to me….cuz the congress man is doing it… I’m sure that’ll work. It’s the same reason I drink and drive and rape immigrants in exchange for their papers….Doesn’t everyone live their life the way they see their congressman live his….Obviously…. Next time dude should find a bitch who isn’t an aspiring pornstar to fuck with. Life lesson. Watch her acting, look at her pics. This bitch sucks, but you’ll like her cuz she’s naked. I’d post her real hardcore shit, but this is a family establishment. You can just google those.

Christina Aguilera Performing in Short Leather Shorts of the Day

Christina Aguilera was on The Voice performing with her co-stars, I think….but can’t be too sure cuz I’ve never seen the show….but when I heard she was singing We Are the Champions that it was in reference to the all you can eat buffet, or maybe as a ritual chant after finishing off some cake, but I guess it doesn’t really matter, what matters is she squeezed her fat ass in a pair of small shorts in some clearly ill advised by a stylist with a sense of humor who plays on the fact that Aguilera thinks she’s still got it… Either way, it was a cheesy fucking embarrassing, holding on to what we once had kinda thing and now you can watch it over and over again until Youtube pulls it. Lucky you.

Christina Aguilera Thunder Thighs In Hot Pants

I’ve never actually seen it, but from what I’m hearing Christina Aguilera’s new show The Voice isn’t doing all that badly in the ratings. So I’m a little confused as to why the producers thought it would be a good idea to squeeze Christina’s chunky thighs into some hot pants and parade them around on stage like you would a cow at a cattle auction. We’re not looking for a good brisket here. We know she’s put on weight, so cover up the thunder thighs and accentuate her new big chesticles in a low cut top and get on with the show. It just seems like common sense to me.

Cry Me A River: Paris Hilton Throws A Tantrum After Barbara Walters Calls Shenanigans During Interview

Poor thang. Paris Hilton thought she was going to reinvent herself by doing a reality show to show the world how much she’s not the person we all think she is. The problem is, she really is still the same person she was the LAST time she did a reality show to show the world she’s not the person we think she is. And now, people are calling her out about it. The reality star and her mother, Kathy Hilton, were on the ABC chat show to promote her show series, The World According to Paris. But neither Walters or her co-host Whoopi Goldberg thought Paris came across well in the premiere episode. Walters, in particular, took Paris to task for only being shown shopping, clubbing, drinking, and complaining about doing her court-ordered community service. The newswoman even reminded Paris that in the past she’d talked about wanting to help women prisoners and engage in extensive charity work — none of which was seen on the first episode of her new show. “Why not present that side of yourself, if indeed it exists,” Walters challenged Paris. Paris’ response was to throw a backstage tantrum with her daddy’s support, then refuse to talk to the media while her PR team tries to find a way to make this look better. Afterward and off-camera, both Paris and her father, Rick, berated a “View” producer, upset at the tone of the interview. A rep for the show confirmed the incident. Hilton’s rep had no comment. That night, Paris threw herself into a long round of partying with sister, Nicky. After the duo attended a launch for “World” at the Gansevoort Hotel, they dined with friends at The Darby, then partied at Avenue and 1Oak. The Hiltons ended up next door at Artichoke Basille’s Pizza and Bar at about 3 a.m. Thursday morning. Hours later, Hilton abuptly canceled a lunch with several magazine editors and an interview, with her team claiming she was sick, losing her voice and didn’t want to infect others. By then, ratings for the “World” premiere had been tallied: an anemic 400,000 viewers. She took off for Spain Thursday night to support her Paris Hilton motorcycle racing team. Rihanna Defends ‘Man Down’ Video’s Violent Scenes

‘U can’t hide your kids from society, or they’ll never learn how to adapt!’ singer tweets. By Gil Kaufman Rihanna Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage A day after the Parents Television Council and other groups decried the violent murder scene in her new “Man Down” video , Rihanna took to the air and to Twitter to defend her clip from detractors. “I’m a 23 year old rock star with NO KIDS! What’s up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I’m just a girl, I can only be your/our voice!” she wrote on Thursday. “Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents! And this is why! … Cuz we turn the other cheek! U can’t hide your kids from society, or they’ll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD! … The music industry isn’t exactly Parents R Us! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! It’s your job to make sure they don’t turn out like US.” The PTC took issue with the opening scene in the video, in which Rihanna is shown shooting an unarmed man in the back of the head in the middle of a crowded train station. Viewers later learn that the act was in retaliation for a previous sexual assault. The PTC, the Enough Is Enough campaign and the entertainment think tank Industry Ears released a statement on Wednesday condemning the video for what the group said was an apparent enticement to young women to turn to violence. ” ‘Man Down’ is an inexcusable, shock-only, shoot-and-kill theme song,” said Industry Ears co-founder Paul Porter. The PTC lamented that Rihanna had a “golden opportunity” to use her celebrity status to send an important message to young girls and victims of rape and domestic violence with the clip, but had missed the mark. “Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability,” said the PTC’s Melissa Henson. The singer later pleaded with her fans to stop making threats against members of the PTC, writing, “We love it, they don’t … that is all, and the world keeps turning.” She also called in to the BET show “106 & Park” on Thursday night to defend the clip, saying she didn’t set out to spark any controversy, but isn’t surprised she did. “Rape is, unfortunately, happening all over the world and in our own homes, and we continue to cover it up and pretend it doesn’t happen,” Rihanna said. “Boys and girls feel compelled to be embarrassed about it and hide it from everyone, including their teachers, their parents and their friends. That only continues to empower the abusers.” She noted that the song’s lyrics clearly express the character’s regret over her actions, and while the song doesn’t mention rape, that was added to the video to make the story more complete. “Making that into a mini-movie or video, we needed to go back to why it happened,” she explained. “Obviously, she’s not a cold-blooded killer. It had to be something so offensive. And we decided to hone in on a very serious matter that people are afraid to address, especially if you’ve been victimized in this scenario.” Though she has been a victim of domestic violence — her ex, singer Chris Brown, pleaded guilty to felony assault against her in 2009 — Rihanna said she does not condone violence or murder. “I’ve been abused in the past, and you don’t see me running around killing people in my spare time,” she said. “I just really want girls to be careful. Have fun, be sassy, be innocent, be sweet, be everything that you are. But just try not to be naive. That’s not coming from a parent but from a peer.” The video debuted on “106 & Park” on Tuesday and after the PTC demanded it be taken off the air by BET, the network released a statement on Thursday in response to the controversy. “BET Networks has a comprehensive set of standards and guidelines that are applied to all of our content. The Rihanna ‘Man Down’ video complied with these guidelines and was approved for air. At the same time, it is clear that the ‘Man Down’ video has sparked a passionate dialogue and we will continue this conversation with our audience tonight on ‘106 & Park.’ ” MTV has not aired “Man Down,” and a spokesperson said the network is currently in the process of reviewing the video.
