Will the failure of Sucker Punch and the development of Superman: Man of Steel prevent Zack Snyder from being involved in the now-untitled sequel to 300 (formerly called Xerxes ). “I don’t see us waiting two years to make the movie,” said producer Mark Canton to MTV at WonderCon, referring to Snyder’s commitments to Clark Kent. And yet, “Zack is very much at the helm of it at the same time.” Got it. Thanks for clarifying. [ MTV ]
As the gimlet-eyed Jen Yamato reported from WonderCon , Warner Bros. unveiled additional footage from the new Green Lantern movie that polled better than the admittedly-bad first trailer . But for those of us not lucky enough to make to San Francisco, that footage has made its way online. Check it out below!
[1] Warner Bros was so happy with the reaction to the 10 minutes of Green Lantern footage from CinemaCon and WonderCon that they have decided to put four minutes online for fans nationwide to see. While the video claims to be an abridged four minute video from the WonderCon footage, I spotted a bunch of shots that weren’t screened at WonderCon/CinemaCon (for example, the mask footage — which I still… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 02/04/2011 18:59 Number of articles : 3
Bertie isn’t the only one with a voice. Deadline reports that Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush will lend his unmistakable pipes to Green Lantern as Tomar-Re, the alien scientist who helps train Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Between this bit of voice casting and the Warner Bros. acknowledgement that the first trailer for Martin Campbell’s hopeful summer blockbuster wasn’t very good , the Green Lantern Comeback Tour is off to a strong start. So, let’s say you’re Warner Bros. studios. Despite being an anthropomorphic conglomeration, life is pretty good for you. Your massively profitable Harry Potter series is about to come to a conclusion, but you’ve got a lot of bullets left in your gun: After making one of the highest grossing movies in the world with Dark Knight , Christopher Nolan made you money AND prestige with Inception — and he’s about to make another Batman movie. You’ve got a possible new superhero franchise with Green Lantern . And you own the movie rights to Superman, possibly the most iconic character in history behind Mickey Mouse and Jesus Christ — so why would you give it to the man who keeps cranking out hyperkinetic failure after failure?
While Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch getting knocked around by critics , it’s as good a time as any to remember that he’s the man responsible for bringing Superman back to the big screen for Warner Bros. The renewed enthusiasm for the Man of Steel here in 2011 has led some to wander back to 2006, and the nearly forgotten about Superman Returns from director Bryan Singer. How come that movie failed to connect with audiences? Singer has an idea.

That didn’t take very long at all. Fans of Japanese Magna Akira are already up in arms about the report that Warner Bros. is looking to cast the film from a list of Caucasian actors that includes Robert Pattinson, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Fassbender. Who could have seen this one coming?
When the trailer for Bruno debuted in 2009 , Universal tried to sell audiences on the critical love for Sacha Baron Cohen’s previous summer comedy, Borat . It didn’t work. Cut to 2011, and here comes Warner Bros. using a similar strategy in the first teaser for The Hangover Part II (it looks like those Roman numerals are part of the official title), which uses quotes about the first film to fill up much of the trailer’s length. Is this highly anticipated sequel doomed to face a Bruno -like box office fate?
