Warner Bros sues over Harry "Popper" condom…

IT'S not every movie star who has a condom named after them. But Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter has become a brand of condom in Switzerland and Warner Bros is not happy. The Swiss condom brand “Harry Popper” is reportedly being sued for copyright infringement by the studio. Gawker.com details the hubbub with a broken-English quote from the Swiss newspaper Bote: “For Warner Bros. is obvious: The sorcerer Harry Potter have a 'very positive image.' Condoms have no business there. Especially not now. According to Warner Bros. in November to plan the launch of the new Potter movie. Also a new video game is in preparation. The lawyer for Warner Bros. bluntly: 'The image of my client is in danger.' There is no denying the correlation between the latex protectors and the popular wizard movie. ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Dividing Point Revealed

First movie will end ‘at about Chapter 24 of the book,’ according to upcoming article in Entertainment Weekly. By Josh Wigler Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” Photo: Warner Bros. Given that the novel clocks in at 759 pages and 36 chapters, not to mention a controversial flash-forward epilogue, there’s little question that the film adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” needed extra legroom to properly stretch itself. As a result, Warner Bros. made the fan-supported decision to split the final installment of the “Harry Potter” franchise into two movies, but one question still plagues Potterites everywhere: At what moment in the story will the films split up ? It would seem that the answer is upon us, as “Harry Potter” fan site Muggle Net has come across what appears to be scanned pages of a “Deathly Hallows” preview article from an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly. In the article, it’s clearly stated that the November-releasing first installment of “Deathly Hallows” concludes “at about Chapter 24 of the book, with Voldemort gaining possession of the Elder Wand, one of the three Deathly Hallows that allow the bearer to conquer death.” By all accounts, it appears that the scans are legitimate, potentially putting an end to countless hours of fan speculation about where the two movies would diverge. In the article, Warner Bros. Entertainment President Alan Horn spoke about splitting the last “Harry Potter” novel into two films, acknowledging that there were certainly commercial reasons driving the final decision. “I don’t want to be disingenuous or dishonest about this,” Horn told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s no question that Warner Bros. will make more money with two films than they would have with one. But we also never, ever would have done this if [author J.K. Rowling] had not endorsed it and if we didn’t feel that we were providing a better finale, with a more full sense of closure. We just respect and love the books too much for that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Josiah Leming Returns, Reinvigorated, With Come On Kid

‘I know I’ve still got a lot to prove, but I’m ready,’ the ‘American Idol’ castoff says of his debut, due September 14. By James Montgomery Josiah Leming on the cover of his album Come On Kid Photo: Warner Bros. Josiah Leming knows you’ve probably forgotten about him. After all, there was a time not that long ago when he had forgotten about himself too. “Absolutely, people have forgotten me, and rightfully so. I haven’t given them too much to think about,” he laughed. “I basically disappeared for a while. I had let the momentum drop. I hadn’t been writing. I was stubborn, and I was not prepared to fully dedicate myself to this. I had completely lost touch. And then, three little words popped into my head.” Those words were “Come On Kid,” a mantra he kept repeating to himself as he fought to rediscover the spark that had made him a standout on “American Idol” back in 2008 (despite not even making the top 24 ) and earned him an unheard-of contract with Warner Bros. Records soon after. Eventually, the phrase drove him to ditch his two-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles, disconnect from all the distractions — both external and internal — that had kept him from finishing his Warner full-length, and, as he puts it, “re-center himself.” And for all of those reasons, there was really nothing else Leming could call his debut, which will finally see the light of day September 14. It’s an album that showcases not only his skills as a singer/songwriter (which were pretty apparent early on ), but his newfound sense of maturity too. And that, really, was the key all along. “A lot of people that get off ‘Idol’ and jump into a contract don’t think there’s any more development to be done, since there’s a fanbase now. And I was definitely like that,” he said. “I was a little cocky, I wanted it all right away, and [Warner] realized they needed to develop me. They told me that I needed to keep writing, that I needed to be ready mentally, and that there was really no choice but to wait until I was ready. “But I kept writing songs that I liked, and the label liked them, too, but they just didn’t feel like there was a single for radio, so they didn’t want to put an album out,” he continued. “And I was getting more and more frustrated, because, really, I wasn’t ready to do the work. Like I’ve always done, I wanted to run. When I was young, I ran away from home. After ‘Idol’ didn’t work out, I ran from that. And I wanted to run from this. But, luckily, I didn’t.” Leming said he had an awakening last summer, after his mother died following a lengthy battle with cancer . He realized he had no other options, that making music was his dream, and he was about to blow a tremendous opportunity. Inspired, he parted ways with his previous management team, got back to writing and told the label that he was finally ready to work. “I just realized that I was meant to do this, there was no other plan,” he said. “So I sat down and figured out how I was going to make this work.” And the end result is, finally, Come On Kid. While its release should be triumph enough, the newly invigorated Leming is hitting the road hard to promote it, playing new songs and still aiming for the stars, despite the fact that most folks have forgotten his name. His new mission, he said, is to change that. “I like being the man down, and I know I’ve still got a lot to prove, but I’m ready,” he said. “The dream is still there, and I’ve still got the same lofty and unrealistic goals. Why wouldn’t I? I’m a 21-year-old kid.” Are you rooting for Josiah Leming to make it big? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Josiah Leming

Movieline Recasts the Failed Summer Blockbusters

The L.A. Times goes overboard with its Inception coverage today , putting the Warner Bros. release on the front page of the business section with a story about how its box-office success is anything but a slam dunk. (Hmm, where have I read that before?) Cited amongst the reasons is the iffy starpower of Leonardo DiCaprio when compared with other A-listers like Will Smith and Brad Pitt. And, as it turns out, both of those actors were considered to lead Inception before DiCaprio signed on. If only! Why not apply this interesting production footnote to the other would-be blockbusters released already this summer? It’s time to recast the failures!

By Shaheem Reid Wiz Khalifa Photo: Atlantic “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” Candidate: Wiz Khalifa Call him King Khalifa. “I can do what I want to do,” Wiz Khalifa joked. “I haven’t been watching sports, but I feel like LeBron right now.” Of course, LeBron “King” James has been a coveted NBA free agent, and Wiz Khalifa has been hearing out offers as well. The Pittsburgh native said, despite the rumors, he hasn’t signed with Atlantic. “There’s some things going back and forth,” Wiz said Wednesday. “I’m working on the album. There’s a lot of people interested in helping make this album and making it what it could possibly be. Anybody who’s willing to reach out and lend whatever they can, we appreciate it. But nothing’s been official, nothing for sure for sure yet. But I f— with Atlantic. I f— with the whole Warner Bros. Music Group, even with everything that happened with the Warner Bros. situation. They are good people over there.” Wiz was signed to Warner Bros. years ago but sat on the bench and never released an album. Wiz, however, has built up arguably the strongest Internet fanbase out of the “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” hopefuls: his army of followers, the Taylor Gang . “That’s a good look. I appreciate it, man. That’s what’s up,” he said about being a “Hottest Breakthrough” contender. “I’m just excited that people pay attention — but not only pay attention, looking for me to do well. There could be a lot of different opinions about my music and the movement that I’m doing, but everything has been positive, and everybody has been wanting me to do well. I got great fans that continue to express. And they say hard work pays off, and that’s what I’m going to continue to do. “Just staying in the studio, always working, always putting out mixtapes and material for people,” he added about how he’s maintained a strong buzz. “Capitalizing off of whatever I do. If something does well, you have to keep going after that. You can’t get comfortable right there and think, ‘That’s it.’ Constantly working and reinventing myself. Making smart business moves. Having great fans. That’s it.” Wiz said his album has a title, but he’s keeping it close to the vest. Khalifa — who is currently on the remix of Rick Ross’ “Super High” with “Hottest Breakthrough” rival Curren$y (“Ross really just kept it G, dawg. He seen my movement and he seen Curren$y’s movement”) — did reveal he’s looking toward the fourth quarter to drop it and that there will be more visuals from Kush & Orange Juice in the coming months. “It’s coming real good,” he said of his debut album. “The sound is crazy. I’m really going in and focusing when I do these records, as far as what I want to hear and what I want to come out the studio. I was comparing it the other day. We got a big gun; we gotta aim and shoot it right. Now that’s what I’m doing with the album. I’m not just making a bunch of songs; I’m making the best couple of songs. I know what I wanna hear.” Wiz has been working with his hometown team of producers: Dan, Sledgren, Juliano and Big Jerm of ID LABS. “I always been versatile with my music,” he offered. “I try different things. Since I been grinding and working, I try to establish the fact that I do all types of music. I’mma do some cool stuff. I’mma do some radio stuff. I’mma do some underground stuff. I’mma do some club stuff. I kinda established that with my fans. I’m lucky to have this little pocket where I can make radio jams and mixtape songs as well.” Wiz and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you! Fans decide our ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010’ — vote now! The winner will be revealed on July 25. By Shaheem Reid Jay Rock Photo: Warner Bros. “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” Candidate: Jay Rock Even if you never saw Jay Rock or didn’t know about his street credentials, one listen to records like “All My Life in the Ghetto” with Lil Wayne and Will.I.Am or freestyles like “Anti Social” and you can tell that the Watts, California, native’s rhymes are ‘hood-validated. The husky roar in his baritone, the vivid narratives and the pain in his flow all give Rock one of the most captivating young voices in hip-hop. His candidacy for “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” comes with a collective thumbs-up from the streets. “Starting out in Watts, I can say I really had a love for music,” Rock said of his early musical inspirations. “I always had a love for music. When I was 6, 7 years old, I was raised on all the old-school stuff. My momma used to play oldies in the house. That’s all my momma used to play around the house was oldies. But when I stepped outside my project unit, that’s when I listened to the Dres, Scarfaces, DJ Twists, Mausberg. I was brought up on that. I fell in love with rhyming when I turned 13. I was in junior high. I got into it, but I wasn’t serious. It was just for fun.” Rock didn’t care too much about cultivating his skills; he was too busy chasing paper. “I was doing what I do, being a hardhead in the streets. I didn’t even know one of my big homies was in the music game,” Rock explained. “I heard he was looking for me. I thought it was to chastise me for some stuff I did being a hardhead. But the whole time, he wanted to get me in the studio. He heard one of my tapes, a song I was on. I used to be ducking and dodging. Shout-out to Top Dawg, he snatched me out the streets and said, ‘I’mma make something happen. You don’t need to be out in the streets doing that dumb stuff.’ ” Rock started putting out mixtapes in 2006 and has been signed to the Warner Music Group for the past three years, waiting to release his debut, Follow Me Home. “We still pushing,” Rock said about being patient. “We ain’t giving up on nothing. We been through worst situations than this on the street level. Look where we at right now? We on MTV. We gotta keep pushing.” Rock became a fixture on the hip-hop blogs back in 2008 when the video for “All My Life in the Ghetto” dropped, featuring none other than Lil Wayne. His momentum has carried into this year with his appearance as part of XXL magazine’s Freshmen 10 . The follow-up mixtape From Hood Tales to the Cover of XXL came in the spring. “I been around negativity all my life,” Rock said. “To do something positive, it’s a beautiful thing. It’s crazy how people are listening to my music. I ain’t never expect. … I’m from Watts, out the projects. I’m blessed. Real talk.” Jay and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you!
