The Rewind Ep. 15: Teyana Taylor’s Album Proves She’s ‘Nobody’s Fool’ & You’re Gonna Love Her For It!

The Rewind Episode 15 On the latest episode of “The Rewind” , hosts Landon and DJ Franchise talk Teyana Taylor’s “Gonna Love Me” remix with Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, and Method Man that DJ Franchise “The Bully” can’t get enough of. Landon, however, is less than impressed considering that it comes with production from Kanye. On the flip side Landon LOVED Tyler Perry’s new film “Nobody’s Fool”—that Franchise says was absolutely horrible. “Tyler Perry keeps giving us this garbage, this trash. I don’t know why black people wanna go see this stupid a** movie. This movie was just horrible over all.” Ooop! Watch above, it’s THE REWIND!

Black Man Paralyzed In Police Shooting Enters Political Arena

L ess than a week after the 2018 midterm elections, a Black man who was paralyzed in a 2012 police shooting wants to campaign for office in 2019. See Also: Jury Deliberates In Case Of White Cops Accused Of ‘Terrorizing And Paralyzing’ Black Driver Leon Ford announced on Sunday, exactly six years after the shooting, that he’s campaigning for a seat on the Pittsburgh City Council, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The 25-year-old candidate, who was surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, vowed to amplify the voices of Black people and the youth in his community if elected. “I think that from the response alone, you see people excited in a way they’ve never really been excited for a city council race in a very long time, from elders to the youth,” said Ford. Six years to the day after he was shot and paralyzed by police, Leon Ford is officially kicking off his campaign for Pittsburgh City Council. pic.twitter.com/4umkuAQpYc — Julian Routh (@julianrouth) November 11, 2018 It’s not too soon for politicians to begin focusing on the off-year election. In 2019, gubernatorial races will headline down-ballot elections in Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Several state, local legislatures, and mayoral races are also on tap. Ford entered the spotlight in Pittsburgh in a disturbing case of alleged police excessive force . Pittsburgh Police Officer David Derbish shot him five times during a November 2012 traffic stop and a second officer was accused of assaulting him. A lengthy federal trial in 2017 ended with a jury in deadlocked on Derbish’s liability. After a second trial was scheduled to get underway, Pittsburgh settled the case for $5.5 million in January 2018. “We are very happy for Leon and his family to have closure so he can move forward and be the great and successful man he is destined to be,” a statement from Ford’s lawyer said following the settlement. Ford is indeed moving forward with his life. He’s competing as a Democrat, and he has the May 21 primary circled on his calendar. Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard Support the Troops By Taking Selfies

For many people, one of the most infuriating things about the Duggar clan is their inability to practice what they preach. They claim devotion to the teachings of Jesus, and yet they dedicate their days to amassing wealth. They insist on privacy when it’s convenient, yet they’ve made careers out of sharing the details of their private lives on social media. And, as many have pointed out in recent years, they talk a big game about their support for the US military, despite the fact that none of the Duggar men (and there are many) have ever served a day in the military. Obviously, you can support the troops without having served in the armed forces, but some folks are accusing the Duggars of supporting the military only in a performative, insincere fashion. Over the weekend, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard attended a fundraiser for veterans. Jill posted the above pic, along with the very lengthy caption below: “To all American military veterans and their families, THANK YOU, we love you and are supporting and praying for you!!! We were able to attend a veteran’s gala hosted by @getitatsamsnwa (thanks @davidlaningham & @sierrajodominguez for your help and @cldilla for watching the boys!) “It was such a powerful night! Our returning military often fight their greatest battles after they return from the field and it’s our job as civilians to do whatever we can to raise awareness and reach out in support. “There are so many organizations that help us do just that, one amazing one is the REBOOT Alliance! “What are your favorite ways to support our troops and their families? We probably don’t need to tell you that several folks answered that question with something along the lines of “by actually serving in the freaking military!” The issue of why the family has no involvement with the US military despite their constant talk of supporting the troops is a common subject of inquiry on Duggar-themed message boards . Responding to the question of whether a Duggar would ever enlist, one fan on the Free Jinger site responded: “No, never. They’d have to interact with ‘commoners’ plus take orders from someone other than Daddy.” Others pointed out that serving would put the Duggars in contact with folks who engage in such sinful activities as swearing, smoking, and drinking. None of this is to say that Jill and Derick were wrong to pose for selfies at a swanky event designed to raise money for veterans. It’s just odd that there are so many Duggars and none of them seem to have any interest in serving. Maybe they should get over their fear of f-bombs and Marlboros so that they can serve their country. View Slideshow: Jill Duggar: Is She Rebelling Against Jim Bob’s Belief System?!

Source: Isaac Brekken / Getty The second episode of Chad Loves Michelle , the reality series starring Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams and her fiancé Chad Johnson aired on OWN Sunday night with plenty of people raising concern about the couple, namely in regards to one argument which made it on camera for everyone to see. The show depicts the couple’s road to newlywed bliss and the rocky road even that has been. In one clip, the two are having a discussion when Michelle brings up the topic of race, which Chad disapproves of. “I said something to him on the lines of ‘Well, Chad, because you are not Black you would not understand why I communicate the way I do. Maybe because you didn’t grow up around a lot of Black people.’ So that was very, very offensive to Chad,” Michelle recalled in the clip. Johnson apologized for the remark and said that he lost his temper but that the remark had everything to do with he and Michelle’s racial differences. But is it a red flag for their marriage? Pete Davidson: I’m Sorry I’m Such a Jackass, OK?!

So a lot of people haven't been too into Pete Davidson lately. Well, a lot of people haven't been into Pete Davidson for a long time, but let's just focus on what's been going on lately, OK? His breakup with Ariana Grande has quite a bit to do with this — she has a lot of really hardcore fans, and they're not happy with him right now. But even besides all the Ariana drama, he's gotten a ton of backlash for some jokes he made about Dan Crenshaw last week on Saturday Night Live. In case you missed this story and also don't keep up with politics, Dan Crenshaw is a Congressman-elect from Texas. He's also a veteran who wears an eye patch because his eye was destroyed in combat. Last week during the Weekend Update segment, Pete was mocking the appearance of several candidates in the midterm elections. And when Crenshaw came up, he said that he looked like “a hit man in a porno movie.” “I'm sorry,” he continued, “I know he lost his eye in war or whatever. Whatever.” Except to many people, it was not whatever. Pete got a whole lot of hate for his comment, which was definitely fair. As Crenshaw himself tweeted, SNL should recognize “that vets don't deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.” It was honestly a pretty big controversy last week. So what about this week?! Pete showed up on Weekend Update once again, this time to apologize. “I mean this from the bottom of my heart,” he explained, “it was a poor choice of words.” “The man is a war hero and he deserves all the respect in the world, and if any good came of this, maybe it was that for one day the left and the right came together to agree on something: that I'm a dick .” At that point, Dan Crenshaw showed up and asked “You think?” Pete apologized directly to him, and he accepted it — it was a genuinely nice moment. But then Crenshaw's phone started ringing with an Ariana Grande song as his ringtone. And that's when things got beautiful. The song played for a bit, and then Pete told him that to get him back for what he said during the last episode, he could check out a picture of him and mock his appearance. When they pulled up a photo of Pete, Crenshaw said that he looked like “if the meth from Breaking Bad was a person.” Next, he said he looked like “a troll doll with a tapeworm,” and then “Martin Short from Santa Clause 3.” For that one, he added that “one of those people was good on SNL,” meaning Martin Short, obviously. To wrap things up, Crenshaw gave a serious message about what this whole scandal could teach us all — how important it is to respect veterans. And at the end of the video, when the audience was applauding, you can hear Pete lean in and tell him “you're a good man.” So everything's been settled, right? Is Pete likable yet? Check out the video below to see the whole thing for yourself, and let us know your thoughts:

Farrah Abraham: Catelynn Lowell is DISGUSTING!

Last night was Farrah Abraham’s big boxing match! Or, well, it was supposed to be, anyway. Last night, Farrah was scheduled to fight Hoopz from Flavor of Love in Atlantic City, but sadly, it never came to be. The boxing match was for charity, but our girl backed out because the promoter wouldn’t play for airfare and hotel rooms for like 30 “friends” of hers. Really, that’s what happened. She insisted that she was promised all those rooms and plane tickets, but the organizers denied it, and obviously refused to cater to her insane demands. So she refused to fight. It’s unclear now what’s going to happen with all of that — she could very well be sued for breaking her contract . But the show went on with Mob Wives star Natalie DiDonato taking over for Farrah . Hoopz won, by the way. Meanwhile, Farrah went to Maldives with her daughter, Sophia, and in between posing for lame pictures and being her usual awful self, she gave an interview to Hollywood Life. And, in usual Farrah fashion, it didn’t really make a whole lot of sense but it was entertaining just the same. First, she advised “anyone associated to the criminal fraud promoters” of the fight “to cease and desist using my name for attention of their failed fight to steal money and use celebrities.” Those celebs, by the way, include “Hoopz, Catelynn, and other low-class wannabe celebrities like Drita.” Drita officiated the fight, an excellent choice since she got into that spectacular feud with Farrah earlier this year — that’s shy she’s bringing her up. And the Catelynn she’s referring to here is none of than Catelynn Lowell. Because she went to the fight! As Cate explained in an Instagram post a few days ago, she went to Atlantic City with Tyler because they were “supposed to see Farrah get laid the hell out by Hoopz thennn she dropped out!” She also called Farrah a “scared sissy” and suggested that she “grow a pair,” which was pretty rich. After all, the whole match was to raise awareness against anti-bullying, so to bully Farrah there was just an odd choice. Lots of other people agreed, so many that Catelynn ended up turning the comments off on her post. Anyway, about Catelynn, Drita, and Hoopz, Farrah claimed that they were all “planning to make a mockery of anti-bullying, and as some are moms, it’s disgusting.” She continued by saying that “Since Teen Mom ratings are lowest ever without me, the Teen Mom groupes including Javi, Catelynn and more teen cast members still went to Atlantic City and said that I wasn’t there, as I’m the reason everyone was going.” “Gone are the days I’m around people who are jealous of me — it’s clear I’m the winner over the bullies of this failed event.” “I’ve still won,” she said. “I’m in the Maldives, where they can’t even afford to come.” “Atlantic City is more in their bracket, and happy they paid to watch me.” She’s really not holding back, is she? Farrah wrapped things up by saying that “Like everyone else, I would never watch fake Teen Mom trash drama anymore.” Instead, “the Kardashian parenting is much better to watch,” which is just a really bizarre and also false thing to say here. “Hope the show doesn’t tank,” she added, ” but looks like it has without me .” “Going snorkeling!” And as much as it hurts to admit it, those kinds of quotes are why Farrah is such an icon. Is her absence the reason why Teen Mom OG ratings aren’t so great the season? Maybe. Is she a little delusional in slamming all of these other poeple for destroying the boxing match’s anti-bullying message when she’s said far worse many, many times ? View Slideshow: Farrah Abraham on Teen Mom OG: LOL! Such a F–king Joke Without ME! Absolutely. But hey, that’s just Farrah!

New Firm Aims To Increase Representation Of Black Investors

W hen it comes to securing venture capital for business ventures, there isn’t a level playing field for Black entrepreneurs. Racial disparities in the world of VC goes beyond the struggles that business owners of color have when trying to get capital for their startups. Studies show that 81 percent of venture capital firms don’t have any Black investors on their teams, and a new company is looking to change that, Tech Crunch reported. 81% of VC firms don’t have a single black investor — BLCK VC plans on changing that https://t.co/P0OK4GQ4xo by @kateclarktweets pic.twitter.com/qNHAdYabhR — TechCrunch (@TechCrunch) November 8, 2018 The firm BLCK VC was launched as an avenue to increase the number of Black investors, the news outlet writes. The organization is aiming to turn 200 African-American investors to 400 over the next six years. BLCK VC has been primarily focused on areas that include New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles and they hope to expand to other cities. The firm wants to cultivate a safe space for Black investors so that they can come together and develop actionable strategies to diversify the venture capital industry. “We think of ourselves as an organization formed by black VCs for Blacks VCs to increase the representation of black investors,” Sydney Sykes , Co-founder, BLCK VC, told the news outlet. “You can look around and say ‘well, I know five black VCs,’ but you can also say this firm does not have a single black VC, they may not even have a single underrepresented minority … We want to make firms reckon with the fact that there is a racial diversity problem; there is a lack of black VCs and every firm should really care about it.” Her business partner Frederik Groce added that there’s an “incredible need to ensure there are resources in place so people don’t churn out of the community.” Groce and Sykes join other Black entrepreneurs who are creating opportunities in the venture capital world. Abrams Battles For Full Count To Honor Every Georgian Who ‘Fought For Their Right To Vote’

S tacey Abrams dismissed her GOP rival Brian Kemp ’s call for her to concede their race for Georgia governor, saying she wanted to honor voters’ sacrifices by making their ballots count. SEE ALSO: Black America ‘Did The Thing’ With High Voter Turnout On Election Day “Over the last few days, our Voter Protection Hotline has heard countless stories of Georgia voters who fought for their right to vote, but for whatever reason, were prevented from casting their ballot,” Abrams said in an Instagram post on Saturday. “I am fighting to make sure our democracy works for and represents everyone who has ever put their faith in it. I am fighting for every Georgian who cast a ballot with the promise that their vote would count.” Kemp, who oversaw the election as Georgia’s secretary of state, has reportedly started his transition to the governorship. However, no official winner has been announced because thousands of provisional ballots have not been counted. A complete count could trigger an automatic runoff. I am fighting to make sure our democracy works for and represents everyone who has ever put their faith in it. I am fighting for every Georgian who cast a ballot with the promise that… https://t.co/jCMYxyhgFL — Stacey Abrams (@staceyabrams) November 10, 2018 Earlier on Saturday, Kemp accused Abrams, who could become the nation’s first Black Woman governor, of using “antics” that are “a disgrace to democracy and completely ignore the will of the people,” according to USA Today . Kemp is currently ahead by approximately 60,000 votes and claims that it’s mathematically impossible for Abrams to win. However, Abrams counters that thousands of uncounted ballots are still out there and must be counted. If Kemp’s current 50.3 percent lead falls below 50 percent, Georgia law requires a runoff in early December. Meanwhile, the NAACP and Southern Christian Leadership Conference rallied for Abrams on Saturday, fuming about voter suppression targeting African-Americans at Georgia polling stations and during the early voting period. “We heard stories from voters who took time off work to vote, only to be turned away at their assigned polling precinct and every polling place they visited,” Abrams said. “Their voices deserve to be heard. They deserve justice. And that is why we will continue this fight.” SEE ALSO: Watch Racist White Women Harass An Andrew Gillum Supporter: ‘Go Back To Africa!’ ‘Dirty Tricks’: Stacey Abrams Voters Won’t Be Denied As Brian Kemp Rigs Voting Machines [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3836205″ overlay=”true”]

The Rewind: It’s Scary In The Water! The Meg Is Coming To DVD And Takeoff Drops A Solo LP

See original here:

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind Global Grind’s bullies, DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius are back once again for another episode of The Rewind . Every week we get our experts to discuss the cultural happenings of the last week and then rate them from a 1-10. In case you have been living under a rock, The Rewind will always be here to get you right. Last week, Takeoff released his first ever solo project outside of the Migos. The album is titled “The Last Rocket” and dropped on November 2nd. Did he indeed take off? It’s been often said that Takeoff, although rather silent and less outgoing than his counterparts, is the better rapper of the three Migos.  Despite getting left off “Bad & Bougie”, Takeoff manages to hold his own. However, does being the better Migos rapper necessarily make him a great lyricist? DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius are super hip hop heads and they’ve got a lot to say. Landon actually enjoys the fact that Takeoff doesn’t mumble rap for the entire album, citing that “The Martian”, the album’s first track, is his favorite. While Landon, being the Southerner that he is,  is rocking with Takeoff’s latest effort, DJ Franchise is not feeling it one bit. The words “sucked” and “garbage” were thrown around a few times, actually. Landon and Franchise debate the Takeoff album and then fire off with their 1 to 10 rating. Find out what they had to say when you press play. Also, The Meg is coming to DVD very very soon. The film, which stars Jason Statham,  is about a rescue diver who has been recruited to save an underwater crew from a 75 foot long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon that was previously thought to be extinct but ends up attacking a deep sea submersible. The film hit theaters in early August and is now set to be released on DVD on November 13th. Do you think Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise are excited to watch the film at home? The two have a difference in opinion once again. One person thinks the movie completely sucked and the other thinks it was great! Find out what they rate The Meg  and whether or not you should check it out for yourself when you watch this week’s episode of Global Grind’s The Rewind .
