This week DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius do a deep dive into Jennifer Lopez’s new movie, Second Act , which hit theaters on December 21, 2018 and is directed by Peter Segal. The film is about Jennifer’s character, Maya Vargas, who is a Value Shop assistant manager and desperately wants a promotion for her 43rd birthday. With the help of her friend Zoe, played by Vanessa Hudgens, Maya Vargas enhances her less than stellar resume to match her street smarts and reinvents her life and her life-story for the job of her dreams. The film got a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes and The New York Times said that “Jennifer Lopez Deserves Better” but what does Global Grind think? Franchise and Landon dig into the movie and surprisingly when it comes to J. Lo’s acting, they’re actually impressed by her skill. As far as her ability to act and portray a homely, minimum wage worker turned high level exec, Jennifer Lopez was able to execute the role flawlessly. DJ Franchise had a few things about the film that he wasn’t in love with. One of which was what he called the “Disney fee”, which you likely will get from most romantic comedies. He also feels that the film would have been even better if Jenny was actually from the block. Otherwise, according to our resident bully DJ Franchise, Second Act wasn’t half bad. Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000, Cardi B, Usher and Nicki Minaj all reportedly said no. Rihanna gave a hard no back in October and even P!nk declined . But yesterday it was announced that Travis Scott said yes, and the rapper was promptly trampled by social media . Now, Jay Z is trying to save any credibility Scott has in the Black community by attempting to convince him to not perform. Variety.com reported that two sources were claiming Jay Z was reaching out to Scott. Neither Jay’s or Travis’ camp confirmed the reports, which probably means it’s true. Sadly, there probably isn’t much Jay can say to the 26-year-old. Even Maroon 5 has ignored a Change.org petition, which has more than 75,000 signatures , to not perform. Thankfully, Philly rapper and budding social media icon Meek Mill is not here for any Super Bowl foolishness. Young Thug’s right hand man and artist, Strick returns with his latest music video and single, “ Slime Neighbors ” and announces his latest EP, See You When I Land , out 01/11/19. Strick is a promising new artist from North Carolina, who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a professional background both in business and in the U.S. Air Force, The Young Stoner Life signee has set his eyes on the music industry. Building his career behind the scenes, he landed a placement on Kanye West and Juicy J ’s “ Ballin ‘,” and went on to work with artists such as Travis Scott, Jeremih, and Wiz Khalifa . In 2016, Strick earned his first platinum record “ Coordinate ” off Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight album. In July 2017, Strick dropped his debut EP, Risk=Reward . In 2018, he released January’s Risk=Reward 2 . Amber Portwood is going through a difficult time. Of course, as many fans have pointed out, it seems that Amber is pretty much always going through a hard time. Though many of her problems are self-inflicted, and she seems reluctant to atone for her abusive and violent past, Amber's struggle with postpartum depression has earned her the sympathy of many Teen Mom OG viewers. However, many of those fans have been discouraged by Amber's continued tendency to blame others — including her employers — for the state of her mental health. Take a look: 1. Tough Times Amber has been struggling with depression for years, and she said it’s hit particularly hard in the months since her son James was born. 3. By now, you’ve probably heard the reports of an intense and ongoing feud between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton . While it’s true that the British tabloid press would probably have these two at each other’s throats even if they were the best of friends, there’s legitimate reason to believe Meg and Kate genuinely dislike one another. For starters, Kensington Palace issued a statement in the feud, which is a virtually unprecedented move by the Royals’ press secretaries. On top of that, Meg and Kate have both been suspiciously silent on the matter. It’s a curious situation, and it’s not hard to see why it’s captured the imagination of royal watchers the world over. Much ink has been spilled on the question of what caused the split, and it seems like — as is usually the case with fractured relationships — there were a number of contributing factors. Last week, we talked about the peace summit that Prince Charles hosted at Anmer Hall last Christmas in hopes of soothing what were then simmering tensions between the two duchesses. Yesterday, we discussed reports that relations broke down for good when Meghan and Kate fought over a dress (specifically, the fit of Princess Charlotte’s dress) just prior to Meg’s wedding. Now, we’re receiving word that there’s another barrier preventing Meghan and Kate from forming a friendship — and it’s been present since the first day they met. There have long been reports that Meghan is “too American” for the Royals’ liking, and it seems Kate finds her Yankee demeanor particularly troublesome. According to People magazine (long the most reliable source on this sort of royal gossip), Kate is often repulsed by Meghan’s brusque way of addressing palace staff. A source close to the situation tells People that royal aides “might not be used to the ‘say-it-as-you-see-it’ American mentality.” A different insider claims that Meghan learned early on that she needs to be outspoken and persistent if she’s going to accomplish the goals she has in mind as Duchess of Sussex. “The palace is a magical place, and it is also a place where all you hear is ‘no, no, no,’ ” says the source . Just a few months ago, it looked like Teresa Giudice was deep in denial about Joe’s deportation . Now that the season is upon us, she can no longer ignore her husband’s fate. Though she’s not feeling the Christmas spirit, Teresa plans to visit Joe, with the girls, right before the holiday. A source tells Us Weekly that Teresa Giudice will absolutely be visiting her husband, Joe, just before Christmas. And she won’t come alone. Teresa is planning to bring their four daughters: Gia, age 17, Gabriella, age 14, Milania, age 12, and Audriana, age 9. This could be their last almost Christmas as a family on American soil. Teresa is, according to the report, then planning to head off on vacation. Just two weeks ago, Teresa opened up and revealed that she — very understandably — is not feeling that Christmas cheer. “I’m not all about the holidays since Joe is away and since my mom passed,” she shares. Any holiday following a major death in the family is heartbreaking. “I think we’re going to go to my brother’s on Christmas Eve,” Teresa shared. “That’s what we did last year. We haven’t talked about it yet.” She freely admitted that she is “not as excited about the holidays anymore.” WHile Joe’s incarceration is a major factor, there’s also the matter of her dad. In October, Teresa’s father was hospitalized. He needed to undergo treatment for pneumonia and a hematoma. “He just got home from the hospital,” Teresa shared. “We’re taking it slow,” she added. Teresa revealed: “He’s still weak, and it’s going to take a long time for him to feel better.” So he’s not exactly up for being the life of anybody’s Christmas party. Christmas is widely considered to be an important time to be with family for those who are able to do so. Even those who are not Christians and do not celebrate the holiday may find themselves visiting with family thanks to the national holiday. This is why Teresa’s situation really stings at the moment. It’s not just that Joe is behind bars and cannot be with his family this year for more than just a visit. The issue is that Joe will very likely never again be able to celebrate Christmas with his family at their family home. Not in New Jersey or anywhere else in the United States, anyway. Following the end of Teresa’s shorter sentence, Joe Giudice reported to prison in March of 2016. His sentence is for 41 months, and he is expected to be released during the first half of 2019. Unfortunately, what should be a happy occassion is instead something that the entire Giudice family is dreading. Because upon his release, Joe will very likely be deported to Italy. Though Joe was born in Italy, his parents brought him to the United States when he was one year old. America is the only country that he has ever known. Joe is not an American citizen, however, and contrary to what some had assumed, his marriage to Teresa does not automatically change that.
