Man jailed for trying to frame crush’s husband with child porn

How to woo that colleague who doesn't seem to know you exist? You could engage her in laughter-filled conversation by the water cooler or invite her out for drinks after work. Then again, you could break into her house while she's asleep with her family upstairs, download child pornography on her computer and try and frame her husband. 44-year-old Ilkka Karltunen, from Finland, tried just that after he became obsessed by a co-worker and imagined that he could end up with her if only he could get her pesky husband out of the way. He sneaked into her home, downloaded the abhorrent images and then stole the computer's hard drive, later sending it anonymously to police with a note pointing the blame at his colleague's other half. The husband was then arrested and kept away from his young children and home while he was investigated. Somehow police ended up suspecting some involvement on Kartunen's part and ended up searching his home. In his garden shed they found a computer that contained the entire contents of his victim’s home computer, including family photographs, pictures of her husband’s bank statements, credit and debit cards. They also found evidence that on another occasion, while the family were out, Karttunen had broken into his victim’s home to take photographs of a calendar that showed when her husband would be at work. As well as that, he photographed a child’s bedroom in the house. Karttunnen denied the charges against him, but a jury convicted him on Friday. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. He was also made subject to a restraining order and has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article7081986.ece added by: richjm

April Fools: SEGA Announces ECCO: Water Wars 2

Bigfoot log: 2:25PM. Bit concerned at the moment. Haven’t seen Patrick Klepek for over an hour now. He chased after a local with a thick beard to get a statement after Andrew Pfister’s “never breaks down because it’s super reliable” 1981 LeBaron broke down for the seventh time, singlehandedly jeopardizing our entire Bigfoot hunting operation (To tell you the truth, I need to hunt for some patience and deep breathing soon or we’ll be bagging and tagging the equally elusive Pfister-foot pretty soon.) The point is, the way we’re headed, we might end up needing a little help, and fast, if we hope to be feasting on tasty Sasquach cakes by sundown. Thankfully, SEGA has informed us of a new game (that I’m hoping is based on a real creature that is available for rental) that continues the moderately popular/controversial reboot of SEGA’s classic dolphin simulator, ECCO: Water Wars . According to the game’s official announcement, ECCO: Water Wars 2 reunites players with Ecco the Dolphin who is “now a master of time travel and innumerable other highly improbable porpoise plot devices,” and “must lead his fellow Dolphins in a fight against all of humanity – including the elderly.” If that doesn’t have multi-thousand-dollar seller written on it, I don’t know what does. And just in case you were doubting how amazing this game is going to be, hit the break to see a handful of screens that will blow-hole you away. SEGA agreed to loan us a few of their merc-phins, and they are currently patrolling the waters along the Oregon/Washington coastlines. If our hairy prize so much as touches a toe in those cool Pacific waters, we’ll know about it (and we will at least have a toe to show for our thousands of hours of work and millions of dollars of research and car repairs.) Mid-Day Discussion: Water-Cooler Games

Since it’s the day after an episode of Lost , it’s got me thinking about, well, what happens the day after an episode of Lost . Throughout the day, various people at G4 will crowd around someone’s desk as a theory about the show is laid out and dissected by those who agree, disagree or wish everybody around their desk would stop talking about Lost for once. But the water-cooler effect of Lost , which occurs regularly very week, isn’t something I’ve experienced with games all that often. Heavy Rain was the most recent water-cooler video game that I can remember. As different people started finishing the game, they’d scuttle off to corners of the office to talk about what did and didn’t happen to them, vainly attempting to avoid spoiling what happens for everyone else. Besides Heavy Rain , what video games have really gotten you and your friends talking? [image credit: flickr / minor9th ] Have something to share? Sitting on a news tip? E-mail me . Kissing Miley Cyrus: Liam Hemsworth Tells All

Miley Cyrus’ first kiss with Liam Hemsworth wasn’t the most tender of moments. It unfolded on camera – in front of an entire crew – during The Last Song . Not that the Australian actor was disappointed when it happened. “We turned up on set the very first day and originally it was just a scene where we were running through the water and splashing and having fun,” he said. All in her first movie acting gig. No wonder Miley’s quitting music . “And halfway through the scene, the director yelled ‘Kiss!’ And we got thrown into a kiss on the boat,” he recalled on Ryan Seacrest’s KISS-FM radio show. While it was “hard not to get close” to his costar while filming in Tybee Island, Ga., “It was good, ’cause, you know, [you] get the first one out of the way.” “We were filming together every day, and hanging out every day,” Liam added. “We really didn’t have any other friends down there, so we just hung with each other.” It also helped that Miley Cyrus’ mother, Tish, whom Liam Hemsworth described as “the boss,” gave a stamp of approval on the budding relationship early. Her dad? Well, Billy Ray another pressing question for Hemsworth, which Seacrest relayed: “How serious is it gonna get?” Hemsworth’s reply was simply: “It’s pretty serious.” Gulp . Recently, the couple stepped out for the first time as a couple on the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of The Last Song , which hits theaters on Wednesday. Hemsworth said he’s still getting used to the media spotlight – not to mention attention that comes with a high-profile girlfriend: “It’s all very new to me,” he said. New and hot. Don’t you think these two make a great couple? Much as we are often critical of Miley, it seems like Liam’s been a good, grounding influence on her.

South Korean Naval Ship Sank Near North Korea’s Border

The Cheonan Naval ship of South Korea sank near the maritime border of North Korea, this made the Seoul’s government alarmed. Lee Myung-bak, South Korea’s president called for an emergency meeting with his defense minister and other top military officials and the military have already dispatched a fleet of ships. As of now, 58 sailors are already safe but 40 more are missing. The reason is still unknown why the ship sank, and there’s no indication that North Korea should be blamed. Cheonan, a 1,200-ton naval ship has 104 crews and was patrolling at the Baeknyeong Island  (located 20 km from North Korea) last Friday night. According to Yonhap news agency, some unidentified military officials told them that “that an explosion tore a hole into the rear hull, shutting off the engine, wiping out the power and quickly taking the ship down. A number of crew members jumped into the water”. Also, according to Carl Baker,  an expert on Korean military relations, that what made the ship sank is more like an accident.
