Emma Watson Hopes Her American Accent Isn’t ‘Terrible’

‘Harry Potter’ star is ‘hopeful’ she can pull off the accent for ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Emma Watson Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images What does Emma Watson sound like when she says “Olive Garden” as if she lives just down the road from one in Charlotte, North Carolina? That’s one of the questions we set out to answer with “American Talk,” a little video we shot with the cast of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” last December that had the stars attempting to pop off phrases like they were born and raised in the good ol’ U.S. of A. What started off as a funny bit quickly turned into a viral sensation, nabbing more than 2.2 million views. Watson and her cohorts might have felt a bit insecure about their accents — which they had exactly zero time to practice — but the public loved the whole thing. Since then, however, Watson has gone to work on her American accent for a role in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” an adaptation of the controversial novel about teenage life and sexuality. When we caught up with Watson at the MTV Movie Awards recently, where she was taking a break from the “Wallflower” production, we reminded the Brit actress about her time shooting “American Talk” and asked if the accent was causing her any trouble on set. “I was really nervous!” she said of the MTV bit. “I think it sounded terrible.” Hardly. But she’s since gained a facility for an American accent while shooting in western Pennsylvania. “It’s good. Having been out in Pittsburgh for four weeks — it’s OK,” she said. “It’s good. I’m hopeful about it.” Not that she was interested in giving us a sample while hanging at the Movie Awards afterparty outside the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. “No, please don’t do that! No! No, no, no, no — that’s so unfair!” she cried. “Wait and see the movie.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Harry Potter’ Stars Emma Watson, Tom Felton Say Goodbye

Will there be tears? ‘Maybe one or two, just little ones,’ Watson tells MTV News. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Emma Watson Photo: MTV News The “Harry Potter” franchise comes to an end for fans on July 15, but for the stars of the best-selling franchise, the end came over a year and a half ago. “Potter” stars Emma Watson and Tom Felton hit the MTV Movie Awards red carpet Sunday to represent their series against previous victors “Twilight” but said that it was a bit surreal to be there supporting a series they finished filming so long ago. “It’s been over, like, a year and a half since we shot it, and I haven’t seen any of it,” Felton said. The final press rounds for “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” will be taking place this summer, something Watson called “very strange.” She said she would probably shed some more tears when the end came for “Harry Potter” all over again. “Maybe a few. Maybe one or two, just little ones,” she said. The “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” footage that was shown during the MTV Movie Awards was the first Felton had seen of any of the “Part 2” footage, which is impressive, because many trailers have been released in anticipation of the July 15 release date. CHECK OUT PHOTOS OF THE “POTTER” CAST BACKSTAGE AT THE MOVIE AWARDS. “I’m excited to see the sneak peek!” he said excitedly. “That’s half the reason I’m here tonight, I want to see the sneak peek.” Since Felton hasn’t seen any of the “Part 2” footage, he has no idea how he will look fighting the final battle on the big screen in 3-D. That is something else he said he’s very excited to see. “I’m not sure whether that will add or subtract to my screen presence, but we’ll see,” Felton said with a laugh. Emma Watson ‘Couldn’t Compete’ With Pattinson/Lautner Kiss

‘Harry Potter’ star tells MTV News that all the Movie Awards smooching had her feeling left out. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Emma Watson at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday Photo: Steve Granitz/Getty Images Aside from the much-anticipated premiere of a new “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” clip during Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards, it was a pretty quiet night for Team Potter, who sat and watched as “Twilight” reaped (nearly) all the awards , besting “Deathly Hollows, Part 1” for Best Movie, Best Male and Female Performance, Best Fight Scene and Best Kiss. In fact, “Potter” took home just one bucket of Golden Popcorn — Tom Felton’s turn as Draco Malfoy earned him Best Villain honors — and as if that weren’t bad enough, it was the stars of “Twilight” who garnered the lion’s share of the headlines too, as everything from Robert Pattinson’s lip-lock with co-star Taylor Lautner to the squeeing reactions to the “Breaking Dawn, Part 1” trailer burned up search engines in the hours following the show. So you could imagine what it must have been like for the “Harry Potter” stars who were actually on hand for the Movie Awards — like, for example, Emma Watson, who not only lost Best Female Performance to Kristen Stewart, but didn’t even get to see the kiss between Pattinson and Lautner. “I missed this moment! I came out, and they were like, ‘Rob just missed Taylor!’ and I was like, ‘Damn!’ ” Watson told MTV News’ Josh Horowitz following the show. “I was still backstage [after introducing the ‘Deathly Hallows, Part 2’] clip, so I missed it. But, I mean, yeah, good on them!” And as if missing out on the kiss-to-end-all-kisses wasn’t bad enough, the whole lip-locking theme of the night had Watson feeling left out. Seems she was the only person who didn’t have someone to kiss. “I mean, I was really up against it. Kristen [Stewart] had two kisses, and Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman making out,” she laughed. “I mean, I couldn’t really compete!” MTV News has all of the highlights from the 2011 MTV Movie Awards . ‘Twilight’ Stars Feared ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Inception’ At Movie Awards

‘I think some of us were a little bit nervous,’ wolf pack member Tinsel Korey tells MTV News about the competition. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian “Eclipse” cast at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ WireImage Another Movie Awards , another super-dominating victory by Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and company for “The Twilight Saga.” “Eclipse,” the third installment of the blockbuster franchise, took home five Golden Popcorn trophies at Sunday’s show. MTV News caught up with a few members of the wolf pack, as well as Jasper Hale, after their final big win for Best Movie, and they expressed genuine surprise and lots of gratitude about how many awards the third “Twilight” film had racked up. “I think ‘Harry Potter’ was definitely a contender tonight,” Tinsel Korey said of perhaps their biggest competition in the Best Movie category. “I think some of us were a little bit nervous, but we have great fans and they’re dedicated.” “I thought ‘Inception’ would have taken it,” Kiowa Gordon admitted. “Same here,” Booboo Stewart agreed. ‘I thought ‘Inception’ was going to win, [especially] Best Fight and all that.” “It’s a crazy popularity contest thing,” Alex Meraz added. “But I’m very happy we’re on the winning side of it. The fans have been fantastic throughout all of this; it’s been a good ride.” Meraz went on to say that if their winning streak continues into next year, MTV might have to build a bigger stage to hold all of the castmembers. “Next year it’s going to be crazier because there’s a lot more cast, so if ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ is the best film next year, you’re going to be seeing 60 people up on that stage.” “It’s always a pleasure and an honor to show up to the MTV Movie Awards, to have the fans vote and say what their favorites are,” Jackson Rathbone, who plays vampire Jasper Hale, pointed out. “We were up against some hard-hitters today but hey, we came out on top. It was very exciting, a great show,” he said, before giving a few props to the evening’s musical acts. “The Foo Fighters killed it ; I had a great time,” Rathbone said. “Lupe Fiasco rocked.” Do you think “Twilight” will dominate next year’s awards show? MTV Movie Awards: Top Five Moments You Didn’t See!

Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner greet each other with a ‘Twilight’ chest bump, a Foo Fighter invites a ‘Harry Potter’ villain out to drinks, and more. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart at the 2011 Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Given that we are MTV News, and the Movie Awards is one of our biggest events of the year, our intrepid team of writers, reporters and producers enjoy what is, hands down, the best behind-the-scenes access to any and everything that happens before, after and during the live broadcast. With that, we narrowed down a pretty impressive list of can’t-believe-it-happened-off-camera moments for you. In no particular order, here are the top five “events” witnessed backstage at the 2011 Movie Awards : Dave Grohl Hijacks Our Best Villain Interview Minutes after accepting his second Movie Award for Best Villain, MTV News was chatting up “Harry Potter” star Tom Felton about the win, where he’ll keep his award, and so forth. Foo Fighters frontman Grohl suddenly jumped into the frame and asked what we were talking about. He went on to congratulate Felton on his win with a friendly hug. Grohl ended the brief encounter by extending an invite to a visibly star-struck Felton to join him for some post-show Absinthe. Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart Chest-Bump We love it when the stars of our favorite films seem to be genuinely good friends both on and offscreen — especially when those real-life pals are two of our favorite “Twilight” actors, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. In between accepting and presenting awards, we watched Stewart and Lautner greet each other backstage with an actual chest bump, which they followed up with a friendly hug. Emma Watson Gets McDreamy’d In spite of the fact that stylish Emma Watson always looks so composed, not even the “Harry Potter” star could resist the dashing good looks of “Grey’s Anatomy” hottie Patrick Dempsey, a.k.a. McDreamy. We witnessed Watson and the “Transformers: Rise of the Fallen” actor passing each other with a smile and a nod. But once Dempsey was out of earshot, Watson turned to her rep, put her hand over her heart and sighed at his dreaminess. “Chocolate Wasted” With Alexys Nycole Sanchez For its sheer adorableness, this moment might be the lead contender for the best thing we witnessed backstage. Moments after “Grown-ups” starlet Alexys Nycole Sanchez nabbed her first Golden Popcorn trophy for her “I want to get chocolate wasted!” line, our MTV News team caught up with the pre-tween to get her reaction. Really, she was too cute for words. And You can see the delight in our faces in the photo posted on our a href=”http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/06/05/mtv-movie-awards-behind-the-scenes-live-blog”> Movies Blog as we had to kneel to speak with Sanchez.
