Lil Wayne’s upcoming The Carter IV album is one of the most hyped up albums of the year, and in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone, Weezy brings they hype levels up even more. Weezy previewed a song called “Wayne’s World” for the magazine that the Young Money leader believes will change the game. “There’s a lot of rapping on this,” said Weezy. “I want other rappers to hear it and say, ‘I quit. I better start making club songs.’” Rolling Stone describes “Wayne’s World” as “three machine-gunning minutes of adenoidal wordplay topped with a triumphant hook.” Uhhh… okay. The Carter IV is due out on May 16th. Song is the latest from Tha Carter IV, due May 16. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Taylor Hill/ Getty Images Lil Wayne isn’t a biter; he’s just an admirer. The New Orleans rhyme spitter’s second single from his forthcoming Tha Carter IV, “If I Die Today,” arrived online Wednesday (March 23), and the track is a take on Rick Ross’ “I’m Not a Star” from the Miami rapper’s Teflon Don album. Weezy’s version features a new verse from Ross and the same production by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League (Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, T.I.). According to Young Money President Mack Maine, the song was one of the first numbers Wayne heard when he was released from prison in November. The Cash Money MC liked Ross’s “I’m Not A Star” so much he decided to record his own version. “When I was in jail, she let me call her collect/ But if she get greedy, I’mma starve her to death,” Wayne raps. ” … You f— with me wrong, I knock your head off your neck/ The flight too long I got a bed on the jet/ The guns are drawn, and I ain’t talking about a sketch/ I pay these n—as with a reality check.” Last week, during the kickoff of his I Am Still Music Tour in Providence, Rhode Island , Wayne revealed the release date for his highly anticipated project . “May 16, believe that,” Wayne told MTV News. “It can come out tomorrow ’cause I’m so finished. … Tha Carter IV will be dropping May 16. If you’re not doing anything, do me.” What do you think of Weezy’s latest? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Lil Wayne Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)
‘First day back to working,’ singer tweets, without revealing details of project. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images Demi Lovato is ready to work again. The star, who recently checked out of a treatment center after dealing with personal issues, tweeted on Tuesday that she’s back to doing something, without revealing what her next big gig is. “First day back to working. I can’t wait to share with you guys what I’m doing today,” she wrote on Twitter . “It’s a big day for me. So excited! I love you all!!!” While she didn’t say what she was doing, she did reveal whom she was doing it with. “Wow what a very long but successful day today!! I’m SO blessed to have my friend @Alexavega with me ALL day for support!” she wrote, tweeting a photo of her and the “Spy Kids” star together. “Seriously so blessed for the friends in my life. Love them, AND love you guys too!!” Her reps remained mum on what the project is when contacted by MTV News, but E! News reports that Disney reps confirmed that Lovato is not back on the “Sonny With a Chance” set. Earlier this month, Lovato teased a new project in a similarly mysterious way, not getting into the specifics of what she was planning next. “I wanted to let you guys know that I’m excited to get back to work. I can’t wait to tell you guys what the future holds,” she said. “I can’t wait to see you in person. I love you all and I couldn’t have done this without you.” In addition to the new gig, Lovato recently revealed some new body art. “The journey that I went through and the support of my fans was so meaningful to me that I wanted to thank my fans in a way that I know can never be forgotten,” the explained. “So I went ahead and I got a little heart tattoo on my wrist. “It’s something that my fans were actually drawing on their wrists while I was still in treatment. Some people even got tattoos of it, so I wanted to show you guys that I will never forget the support that you guys gave me,” Lovato added. Producer Deezle says he hasn’t gotten his fair cut of the song’s sales. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images It’s almost a given. An artist scores a major hit that sells millions of records and a short time later is sued by someone either claiming he or she actually wrote the song or worked on it and didn’t get a fair slice of the pie. Cue the lawsuit from the producer Darius Harrison (a.k.a. Deezle), who has filed a court action against Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records, claiming that he has not gotten his paper from the sales of Lil Wayne’s smash hit “Lollipop” and the album it was featured on, Tha Carter III. According to TMZ , the $20 million lawsuit claims that Deezle, who says he produced “Whip It,” “Prostitute 2,” “Action,” “Mrs. Officer” and “Let the Beat Build” as well as “Lollipop,” is entitled to his cut of royalties on the reported $70 million the album has grossed on sales of 6 million copies. “Lollipop” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won a Grammy for Best Rap Song in 2009. Harrison previously sued Wayne for $2.5 million over what he claimed were unpaid royalties from the sales of “Mrs. Officer.” The liner notes to Carter list Harrison as a co-producer along with Jim Jonsin on “Lollipop” and as the recording engineer on most of the other songs on the disc. A spokesperson for Wayne and Young Money/ Cash Money could not be reached for comment at press time on the lawsuit. In the meantime, Wayne has been working on putting the latest member of his crew into the spotlight: Lil Twist. “That’s where I get my little oomph from, when I bring my whole clique out there, and I want them to be heard,” Wayne told MTV News last week. “I remember when [Bad Boy] had Total, Biggie, Ma$e, Junior Mafia, all of them other people. Then you think of the Roc. We’re more so like the Roc. ‘Cause Jay always had artists the world didn’t know, but he put them on the proper song and everybody knows the song. But this time around, I want you to know the song, I want you to know the person, I want you to know us. And it’s no secret about it, I got the toughest team in the game right now and later.” Related Artists Lil Wayne
U2 and Bon Jovi will also be featured on digital-only album from Universal Music. By James Dinh Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage Some of pop music’s biggest artists, including Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, are lending their tunes for a good cause. On Monday (March 21), it was announced that Universal Music is rushing out a digital-only compilation album to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. While the lineup and track list have yet to be finalized, other chart-toppers expected to be featured on the release include U2 and Bon Jovi. Lady Gaga may also appear on the album. Proceeds from sales will go to the Japanese Red Cross. “We are doing it only digitally because it is faster, and this will be a worldwide release. The plan is to have it available later this week,” a spokesperson for Universal Music said. In order to maximize proceeds, the record label plans to find more acts willing to waive royalties that would have come from having their tracks appear on the compilation. Universal Music is not the only music-industry player reaching to support Japan disaster relief. Most recently, the Black Eyed Peas announced that the music video for their tune “Just Can’t Get Enough” would be used to promote awareness and funds for victims of the tragic event. The clip, which was shot in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami hit, finds the BEP bandmates traveling throughout Toyko. Earlier this month, Lady Gaga designed a special prayer bracelet with all proceeds going to relief efforts. In just two days, the pop singer and her legion of little monsters raised more than $250,000. C.Breezy gets assists from Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and dons Jordans for his best Mars Blackmon impression in bouncy new clip. By Rebecca Thomas Chris Brown Photo: MTV News It’s gotta be the moves. Chris Brown , all rubbery limbs and sporting a Mars Blackmon-inspired bicycle cap, shows off some fleet-footed footwork in his new “Look at Me Now” video. With looks from Young Money captain Lil Wayne and a fire-breathing Busta Rhymes, a pile of ’90s-era baggy sweats and tees, a series of ferocious dance battles, as well as an ode to those classic Nike/Jordan spots, the dizzying clip leaves you breathless. And that’s exactly how Chris wanted it. ” ‘Look at Me Now’ is kind of like my first rap, rap video,” Chris laughed when he sat down with MTV News on Friday. “I wanted to do like old school, not really old school but, like, back-in-the-day [style].” Back in the day, for the 21-year-old, meant reviving 1990s staples like “big baggy clothes” and “a lot of art, graffiti.” “I tried to blend all of those components into one and make it fun and exciting,” he told us. With the song’s swirling production (courtesy of Diplo and Jean Baptiste) setting the breakneck pace, the Collin Tilley-directed video for “Look at Me Now” lets C.Breezy showcase his inner-MC — Brown instructs his doubters to “say hi” to a section of his anatomy some fans may now be all too familiar with — but it also lets him play with his budding Renaissance Man thing, capturing Chris as crooner, dancer and artist. In several hilarious frames, the FA.M.E. singer turns up cheesing in the horn-rimmed glasses and baseball jersey that were the signature of director Spike Lee’s Mars Blackmon creation, a bespectacled superfan who hawked Jordans in the early-’90s for Nike. In those vintage ads, Mars set out to decode just what made baller Michael Jordan “the best player in the universe” — eventually ruling out the extra-long shorts, the haircut, etc., and zeroing in one element: “it’s gotta be the shoes.” “I kind of did the Mars Blackmon outfit with the Brooklyn [hat] and the whole [outfit], I always was a fan of that and that was always fresh to me when I saw Spike Lee with Jordan,” Chris explained. “So I was like, man, i’mma do that outfit just to pay tribute to him.” Of course, Chris didn’t pull off his first official hip-hop vid on his own. Assists from Lil Tunechi and Busta give the visual added heft. And Brown said the song, like the video, works because the collabos are organic. (Weezy’s a longtime collaborator and Busta’s rapid-fire flow feels tailor-made for the track.) “Working with Wayne is always incredible. I’ve had Wayne on every single album I’ve done,” he added. “Being able to work with these guys is incredible,” he said of Bus and Wayne. “I think I build most of my collaborations off of the relationships that I built with these guys over the years.” Chris’ new album, FA.M.E., drops on Tuesday.
