Lil Wayne Wants Drake’s Thank Me Later To Sell 2 Million The First Week

‘I need him to do more than that Carter III, ‘ Weezy says in new ‘Nino Brown Story, Pt. 3’ footage. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne has huge aspirations for Young Money franchise player Drake. But hey, you don’t become as big a superstar as Wayne is by thinking small. In footage from DJ Scoob Doo’s upcoming “Nino Brown Story, Pt. 3” DVD, Weezy calls Mack Maine from prison, and they talk about the sales of Drake’s upcoming Thank Me Later. Wayne hadn’t heard the completed LP before he went to prison in March. “What that boy’s sh– sounding like?” Wayne asks Mack. “A million in a week?” “Yeah. Like a classic. Big money,” Mack answers. “A million in a week? I need him to do more than that Carter III, ” Weezy adds of his breakthrough album, which sold more than 1 million copies in its debut week. “Like 2 million in the first week. I need him to do 2 million the first week, straight up.” “Let’s get it. Ya heard me,” Mack answers with a smile. “We gotta put this out.” Wayne then goes back to asking his nearly lifelong friend about the music on Thank Me Later. “What’s it sounding like? He singing his ass off?” the YM CEO asks. “That n—a got some songs,” Mack says with excitement. “One of them he let me hear, ‘Karaoke.’ It was some singing, I was like, ‘When your part come in?’ Picture that was him the whole time. I’m like, ‘Who this n—a? When your verse come in?’ That n—a got different tones now, blood. He’s got different tones now. Sh– we ain’t never heard before. He’s killing it.” Wayne later tells Mack that his own Tha Carter IV is going to be another major project and that he wants Thank Me Later to sell 10 million copies overall. “I need [Drake] to do diamond,” Wayne says. “And I try to top that. I need him to do that. He’s gonna sell.” While in prison, Wayne is already thinking about his first performance when he comes home. “Come straight offstage with the [state] greens on and just go stupid on them,” Wayne says of what he’s going to do. “I should do it the same night I get out.” How many copies do you think Drake’s debut will sell its first week? Eminem, Lil Wayne Toss Salvos On Anguished ‘No Love’

The Just Blaze-produced duet samples unlikely dance track ‘What Is Love?’. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem’s Recovery Photo: Interscope Eminem and Lil Wayne toss lyrical salvos on their Recovery collaboration, “No Love,” which arrived online Tuesday (June 8), leaked to the web with the rest of Em’s album. Just Blaze produced the angst-ridden number, which, somewhat surprisingly, samples the Haddaway dance track “What Is Love?” better known as the theme for the Saturday Night Live “Roxbury Guys” sketches than for its rap cred. On the menacing track, though, Wayne and Em swap tough-guy rhymes. “They call me a freak because I like to spit on these p—–s before I eat them,” Em raps on the second verse. “Get these wack co——ers offstage/ Where’s Kanye when you need him?” Later on the track, Em croons in a sing-song flow on the chorus: “It’s a little too late to say that you’re sorry now/ You kicked me when I was down/ But what you say … don’t hurt me.” The track marks the first time the two have specifically traded rhymes as a pair on one track. On Drake’s “Forever,” the two guest MCs were joined by Kanye West. And although Em and Wayne appeared together on “Drop the World,” off the Young Money star’s rock-leaning effort, Rebirth, Wayne wasn’t rapping as much as singing (aided by Auto-Tune). While traveling overseas recently, Eminem had high praise for his collaborator. The duo have long admired each other, and Wayne campaigned for years to join the Detroit MC on a track. “I’ve always respected what Wayne does, and Wayne, to me, is definitely one of the greatest in the game right now,” Em said. Drake Says He And Lil Wayne Are Planning A Joint Album

‘I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/ Drake album,’ he tells MTV’s ‘Sucker Free.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: the305.com A Young Angel and Young Lion LP? It’s finally in the works, according to Drake. The Toronto MC said he and Lil Wayne spoke about a joint album when he visited the incarcerated star last week in prison. “I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/ Drake album,” Drake told DJ Envy on MTV’s “Sucker Free.” ” … There’s some things I’m excited for in my life — I’m excited to go perform certain places — but [this project] will probably be one of the most exciting things in my life, because we make music on a different level. It’s just so fun, so comfortable. A whole album? To think about all the things we can do, especially if we’re gonna do 15 songs. Me and him don’t like to do 12, 13 [songs]. We want to do 15, 16. Yeah, Lil Wayne and Drake album.” Wayne is only featured once on Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later, which drops June 15. The Cash Money superstar and Drizzy collaborated on a number of projects in the past, including Drake’s mixtapes Comeback Season and So Far Gone, in addition to the Young Money compilation released last year. But this will be the first time the two MCs pair up for their own project. Last year, while on the verge of inking his deal, Drake told MTV News about his career ambitions and said Lil Wayne would be a part of them for a long time. “I plan to work with Wayne for the rest of my career, so I think it’s a smart career move,” he said. “You know, everybody else [on Young Money] will hopefully work out the situations, get the right people on the album. I think it was important for me to show him that I believed in him as much as he believed in me. Because a lot of months, he stuck his neck out there for me, you know with the VMAs [where Lil Wayne rapped Drake’s verse from ‘Money to Blow’ at the beginning of his performance of ‘Misunderstood’] and then ‘Ransom,’ and all the songs that we put out. And the things he would say in interviews, he really put himself out there for me. So I think it was only just and fair to show him that I feel the same way.” For more Drake, check him out with DJ Envy on the road for Sucker Free Summer at Hartford, Connecticut’s Hot Jam 9 this Sunday at noon on MTV2. Game Skipped A Pre-Jail Video With Lil Wayne To Record With Dr. Dre

‘When Dre is mixing, you don’t leave,’ he tells Mixtape Daily of failing to shoot an ‘Everything Red’ clip. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne and Game Photo: Black Wall Street Celebrity Favorites If he would have just gotten on a plane from L.A. to Miami, the Game could have added to Lil Wayne’s pre-prison video-shoot marathon . The Compton MC said one of the standout cuts from his Red Room mixtape , “Everything Red,” was supposed to be a single from The R.E.D. Album, but he didn’t shoot a visual. “I flaked on the video,” Game said of the track, which features Lil Wayne and Birdman. “Bird was like, ‘Listen, daddy, you can come down here. Junior is gonna turn himself in next Wednesday. You can come down here. We can shoot the video before Junior go in. You just have that in the safe.’ I blew it. I didn’t make it down. Once he went [to jail], I was like, ‘I can’t use this.’ I didn’t want to save it, so I gave it away. That was like, ‘Single!’ ” So what was so important that he couldn’t make it to Miami for his own video? He was finishing up tracks with the most successful hip-hop producer in the world. “I think I was in with Dr. Dre. I couldn’t move,” he thought back. “I think we was finishing up his records. When Dre is mixing, you don’t leave. You gotta stay posted. But I couldn’t move. So I gave it away. Fans appreciate it, though.” One of the Dre-produced records that will appear on his album is called “Dead People.” On the track, Game thinks of who he wants to murder and how he’s going to get away with it. The R.E.D. Album has been pushed back to later this summer, but the MC promised another mixtape before then. Drake To Visit Lil Wayne In Prison

‘FINALLY got some time for a visit to go see my brother,’ rapper tweeted. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: the305.com Drake announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he would be visiting his mentor in prison on Wednesday (June 2). “FINALLY got some time for a visit tmrw to go see my brother,” Drake wrote . “So if you got msgs that need to be delivered write #TellWayne.” The Toronto MC has been on the road and putting the final touches on his debut, Thank Me Later, since Weezy turned himself in to prison back in March. In an interview Drake gave to MTV Jams in honor of Lil Tunechi Weekend, the So Far Gone superstar admitted he missed his Young Money cohort, from their friendly rivalry to the veteran rapper’s guidance. “One of the most important things in my life was being able to always see that Weezy e-mail come in,” Drake explained while donning a white T-shirt emblazoned with the rapper’s face and the words “Free Wayne.” “Or be able to respond to that e-mail or be able to ask him a question. Be able to utilize his knowledge. Our communication, I would say I miss that.” Since the rapper has been away, Drake has done his best to keep Lil Wayne’s name alive , from shouting him out at shows to bringing him up in interviews. Wayne has done a good job himself of staying active in the public’s mind, releasing a spate of videos and hosting a mixtape from behind bars. According to the New York City Department of Correction website, Wayne is allowed visits on Wednesdays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The two will be allocated an hour of time for the visit and Drake will be subjected to multiple searches before he’ll come face to face with Wayne. Fans have followed Drake’s instructions and are hoping he relays a number of messages, including notes of support and wishes for Wayne’s next album to arrive soon . Drizzy also will be relaying a message from his own mother to Wayne. “I talked to mother, she loves you to death,” Drake told MTV. “That’s from Mama Graham.” What do you think about Drake going to visit Lil Wayne? The Next ‘Twilight’: The Search Continues At BookExpo America

We pick five books that could live up to the hype to be your next book addiction. By Brian Jacks and Sabrina Rojas Weiss “Vampire Academy: Shadow Kiss” Photo: Penguin Books Mega-successful books series like “Twilight” and “Harry Potter” don’t come around every day. The flowery tales of Edward and Bella and the fantastical adventures of Harry and his schoolmates have entrenched themselves in the hearts of loyal followers, leaving room for little else. But the June 5 release of Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” spin-off novella “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” marks the end of an era. That’s why the publishers, authors and booksellers at BookExpo America this week were eager to tout their upcoming releases as the next big thing. MTV News scoured the trade show and soaked in the hype. Check back at our Hollywood Crush blog for reviews of many of these titles when they’re available. But in the meantime, here are five buzzed-about books whose mythical creatures and evil dystopias seem the most promising. Many of them are already being prepped for the big screen too. “I Am Number Four” What It’s About: A group of young aliens land on Earth after their own planet is destroyed, secretly integrating themselves into society where they slowly learn they’re developing powers. When those responsible for blowing up their planet track them down and begin killing them in sequential order, our hero John Smith (otherwise known as Number Four) vows to dish vengeance on the bad guys, all while juggling a hot and heavy love triangle involving his fellow extraterrestrial Sarah (Number Six) and a human girl. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight” : The book by “Pitacus Lore” (the pseudonym of James Frey and Jobie Hughes) doesn’t hit shelves until August 17, but that didn’t stop Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay and the creators of “Smallville” from teaming up to produce a big-budget film that’s set for a 2011 release. Alex Pettyfer of “Beastly” and Dianna Agron from “Glee” are among the stars already attached. That alone could help the book shoot to the top of the pile, but at its heart the title is about one young man and his quest discover himself, get the girl and take down the enemy. “The Passage” What It’s About: A government weapons project goes awry, turning much of the population into blood-sucking vampires. The book follows the story of Amy, a young survivor who remains mostly unaffected by the virus and may be the key to saving the human race. Interestingly, the tale shifts between two time periods, jumping 100 years into the future, when Amy is still alive (cue spooky music). What Could Make It the Next “Twilight”: Author Justin Cronin developed his book, which come out on June 8, while listening to his 13-year-old daughter obsess over Stephenie Meyer. Like the “Twilight” series, the story revolves around a special girl. Director Ridley Scott (“Gladiator,” “Blade Runner”) apparently agrees and has optioned the book to develop into a feature film. “The Hunger Games” What It’s About: In a oppressive country called Panem, every year, two children from each of 12 districts are sent to compete in a televised arena battle to the death. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen has the advantage of archery skills and something-more-than-friendship with fellow District 12 tribute Peeta. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight” : Suzanne Collins’ trilogy (third book, “Mockingjay,” is out August 24) has created a fierce, selfless heroine, a tragic love triangle and a frightening dystopian future that’s captured adults and teens alike. There aren’t any vampires in sight, but fans’ enthusiasm for these books is growing mighty feverish. Lionsgate is slated to begin filming a movie adaptation in early 2011. “Vampire Academy” What It’s About: Imagine Hogwarts, but more deadly and with sexy vampires instead of wussy wizards. “Vampire Academy” follows the adventures of Rose Hathaway, a half-vampire student of the boarding school who is training to become her best friend’s bodyguard. Though she’s often battling evil vampires, the series is not without a heaping of romance here and there. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight”: When we covered the “Vampire Academy” books last year, we called Richelle Mead’s series the “perfect antidote” to frustrations over Bella often playing the victim. In this series, we get a strong female character who’s more liable to kick someone else’s ass on her own, rather than relying on any strapping hunks to do it for her. And as of today, the latest book in the franchise, “Spirit Bound,” has hit #1 on the best-seller charts. “Beautiful Darkness” and “Beautiful Creatures” What It’s About: The series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the book is told from the point-of-view of a high school student in the deep South who meets the girl of his dreams (literally). A tale of good versus evil, we follow the couple as the girl must choose between the dark side and the light side of her magical powers before her 16th birthday. “Beautiful Darkness” is out on October 12. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight”: Like “Twilight,” teenage angst is mixed with Gothic charm, dark secrets and choices to be made. The book is heavy on the romance aspect as it follows two young lovers and the feverous attempt by the boy to sway his girlfriend to the more righteous path. T.I. Says He’s ‘Reppin’ ‘ For Lil Wayne While He’s In Jail

‘His daughter and my daughter, they’re real, real close,’ Tip says. By Shaheem Reid T.I. Photo: Sam Hendrick T.I. says he’ll always have Lil Wayne ‘s back. Just a few short months ago, Tip was in Wayne’s shoes , having to put his career on hold and telling his loved ones goodbye while he served time in prison. “Yeah, I speak to him. Sure,” Tip said earlier this week in the MTV Newsroom when asked if he’s in contact with Weezy. Tip said their relationship is a lot deeper than trading 16 bars on each other’s songs. “Well, his daughter and my daughter, they’re real, real close,” Tip explained. “My daughter spends the night with them, his daughter comes spend the night with us. I told him, ‘Whatever I can do. Whatever it is that’s within my power’ … I know how it is with kids, especially with a period of time like that. “Even though it may seem like a short time — to the media, it may seem like ‘He got off easy’; to everybody, it may seem like ‘It’s only a couple of months’ — to a child, that’s an eternity,” he continued. “So I’m like, ‘Whatever I can do, it’s all good.’ I just let him know there’s people out here who’s still reppin’ for him, people who will go above and beyond to do whatever it needs to be done.” While sitting down with MTV News, Tip also revealed that while he was incarcerated, Eminem was a peer that supported him . “Especially since I went through my situation [with having to go to prison]. [He would] just kinda remind me that ‘I’ve been through dark period in my life too. You’re gonna make it. You’re one of the ones we need, so you’re gonna make it. Stand tall and walk the walk,’ ” Tip said. “He just made it a point to always reassure me of the spot that I hold in this thing that we got called hip-hop. It was incredibly helpful. It was incredibly noble of him, in my eyes, to even take the time out to reach out to me. We continue to stay in touch,” Tip said. “He wrote me since I was in the joint. We’ve spoken several time since I’ve been back home. We maintain a healthy relationship.” Next up, Tip is releasing a project straight to the streets and Internet on Thursday — for free. It’s called F— a Mixtape and is hosted by DJs Drama and MLK. Lil Wayne guests on the project. Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: T.I. Related Artists T.I. Lil Wayne
