U.S. Olympic Team Member Katie Uhlaender Does It All For The Snooki

Meet the skeleton racer who embraces danger, ignores the competition and loves ‘Jersey Shore.’ By James Montgomery Katie Uhlaender Photo: MTV News VANCOUVER — The Olympic sport of skeleton takes its rather ominous name from the stripped-to-the-bone sleds that athletes use to rocket down ice tracks, and not from the fact that you can totally die doing it. But still, when you’re throwing yourself face-first downhill at 90 miles an hour, your chin hovering inches above the ice, with no brakes and no way to steer, well, you tend to think about stuff like death (or at least serious bodily harm) on a fairly regular basis. The key — at least to U.S. Olympic team member Katie Uhlaender — is not just to be OK with that fact, but to revel in it. “You’re going really, really fast. Head first. And, to be honest, that’s what drew me to it,” Uhlaender laughed. “I was 19 and anything that looked scary and challenging, I was like, ‘I wonder if I can take it?’ So I tried it, and eight weeks later, I was National Champion. It just came naturally to me; the relaxed chaos of it. The intensity of going so fast, and inside you’re just really calm and taking it all in.” And that attitude, which extends to her off-the-track life as well (in addition to hurtling down ice at terrifying speeds, Uhlaender spent time working behind the scenes on CBS’ “Survivor,” where she tested immunity challenges to make sure no contestants croaked) has made her great, and a favorite to medal at the Vancouver games. She’s already won two Skeleton World Cup championships and appeared well on her way to a third before a pair of nasty knee injuries — one of which involved a snow mobile — slowed her down. And yes, she’ll show you the scars. “I shattered my kneecap twice. I have a really great scar on my left knee,” she said, lifting up her pant leg. “Please excuse the hair. I have no lover, so, in the winter, excuse the hair. Anyway, it’s getting better now. Driving the sled actually hurts, because we use our knees and our shoulders, so putting pressure on my knee to steer the sled, it’s pretty painful.” Part Pink, part punk, Uhlaender is driven, determined and definitely unafraid to speak her mind. It’s a confidence she’s carrying into Vancouver, which means that her competition has officially been put on notice. You know, if she ever actually noticed them in the first place. “I don’t really care about them, to be honest. That’s how I’ve always rolled in, you know, when I first started this sport, took one run and I was like, ‘I’m going to the Olympics.’ And everyone was like, ‘Who’s this chick?’ ” she smiled. “And I was like, ‘I’m Katie Uhlaender.’ That’s kind of the attitude I’m taking here too. That’s what got me here, so why would I try to focus on someone else? If I’m on my game, eat my ice.” And while that swagger motivates her, she’s also come to these Olympic games for another reason: to represent her country. After all, she’s just another proud patriot, not to mention a pretty huge Snooki fan. “Being here, with this flag on your sleeve, it’s something that gives me a lot of pride,” she said. “There’s no better country in the world than the U.S. of A. I mean, where else can you have ‘Jersey Shore’ on TV?” Which is your favorite Winter Olympics sport? Let us know in the comments below! MTV News is on the ground in Vancouver all week, so stay tuned for more coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Exclusive: Lil Wayne Plays Evil Trick On Short Dawg — Watch It Here!

Watch exclusive clip from DJ Scoob Doo’s ‘The Nino Brown Story, Part 2’ right here! By Shaheem Reid Short Dawg and Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News You’ve seen video clips right here on MTVNews.com from DJ Scoob Doo’s unprecedented access into Lil Wayne’s world. Scoob has taken the footage and turned it into two DVDs, “The Nino Brown Story,” parts 1 and 2. During a recent trip to Atlanta (before Wayne’s jail sentence was postposted earlier this week), Scoob was finally able to present Wayne with the latest DVD, and the Cash Money millionaire gave it his stamp of approval. ” ‘Nino Brown Part 2,’ sh– t crazy!” Wayne is seen saying with a grin a couple of weeks ago in ATL. Weezy was surrounded by Young Money members Gudda Gudda and Short Dawg. In the DVD, Wayne plays a wicked trick on Dawg, a native of Houston. When Short falls asleep in the studio, Wayne puts hot sauce in a teaspoon. Then, the multi platinum prankster puts the spoon in Short’s mouth, literally giving him a rude awakening. “The ‘Nino Brown’ superstar in the building!” Wayne said to Short and the room full of his friends, still ribbing his artists for the escapades in the DVD. Short took the joke in stride, quoting lines from “New Jack City” (from which the DVD takes its name): “Am I my brother’s keeper? “I went out like G Money in that bitch, man!” Short continued, talking about his look in the DVD. Meanwhile, Wayne was tickled at how Scoob captured his jokester side. “You gotta really pay attention the editing and you gotta pay attention to how your verse comes on when you wake up,” Wayne told Short. “Soon as the verse come on, that boy wake up [and starts drinking]. If you would have start singing the verse, that would have been the hardest sh– that Martin Luther King died for. For real!” As the night proceeds, Short drops more famous lines from “New Jack.” “You’re a murderer, Nino!” Short yells, getting everyone to laugh. “Sit your five-dollar ass down before I make change!” Related Videos Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Artists Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne’s Rebirth Is No Match For Lady Antebellum

Weezy’s latest debuts at #2, Nick Jonas & the Administration enter at #3 on Billboard 200. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne’s Rebirth Photo: Universal Motown What a difference two years make. While Lil Wayne smashed records when his last album, 2008’s Tha Carter III, sold more than 1 million copies and debuted at #1, the frequently delayed, oft-leaked follow-up, Rebirth, came nowhere near that figure. The rock-flavored disc — which was accidentally shipped to 500 Amazon.com customers in December and then widely leaked online — will debut at #2 on the Billboard 200 album charts this week on sales of 176,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The debut comes one day after Wayne got a three-week delay in his sentencing for federal gun charges due to a dental emergency. That figure was not enough to unseat last week’s #1, country darlings Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now, which will retain the pole position despite losing nearly 60 percent of its first-week business (209,000). Coming in just behind Wayne is the debut from Nick Jonas & the Administration , Who I Am, which sold 82,000 copies. The only other debut in the top 10 is from horror rocker Rob Zombie , whose Hellbilly Deluxe 2 lands at #8 (49,000). The rest of the top 10 features albums that got a nice post-Grammy awards bump, including Lady Gaga ‘s Fame (#4, 79,000, up 17 percent), the 2010 Grammy Nominees compilation (#5, 71,000, up 55 percent), the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (#6, 70,000, up 76 percent), Taylor Swift ‘s Album-of-the-Year-winning Fearless (#7, 53,000, up 58 percent) and Best New Artist winners Zac Brown Band ‘s Foundation (#10, 40,000, up 82 percent). Coming in at #9 is Susan Boyle ‘s I Dreamed a Dream, which has sold nearly 3.5 million copies in just under three months. Other big Grammy winners getting a boost include the night’s biggest trophy wrangler, Beyonc

Lil Wayne: Off to the Dentist, Prison

Lil Wayne is off to prison . But first, dude needs to get his grill fixed. After giving the judge in his weapons possession case a mouthful (har har), Weezy won a temporary reprieve from prison, where he was supposed to be sent today. His one-year-term was to begin at today’s sentencing, but it didn’t. That’s because Lil Wayne has to go to the dentist to fix all the bull$h!t going on in his mouth. The judge won’t throw him in the can until his surgery is complete. GRILLED : The judge in Lil Wayne’s weapons case gave him a temporary reprieve . But this will be the rapper’s last oral (har har!) argument. The judge said no more excuses on March 2, when Wayne shows up for sentencing … for real this time. The frequent baby daddy was already planning a T.I.-like farewell, having sent one final message to his fans via his Ustream page : “Don’t forget about me!” On what was to be his final night of freedom for a year (he’s now got 20 more), he told his online supporters simply: “I really, really, really, really love you.”

Lil Wayne Says Goodbye To Fans In Online Video

MC expected to begin his year-long jail sentence on Wednesday. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne in his farewell video Photo: Ustream In the wee hours of Wednesday morning (February 9) Lil Wayne spent nearly an hour saying farewell to his fans in a live streaming video. He is expected to turn himself in on Wednesday afternoon in New York after his formal sentencing and begin his year-long jail term stemming from his July 2007 arrest on gun-possession charges. after a night of apparently recording in the studio, got on the Ustream page of Lil’ Twist , an artist in his Young Money camp, and said goodbye. “I’m out this bitch,” Wayne said, sitting outside a Miami studio. “To all my fans, my real fans I really, really truly love you. I love you with all of me for real.” Most of the Ustream footage was shot inside the studio, however. It started off with Wayne taking a poll and jokingly asking the fans if he should consider a person a real friend if they missed his farewell party at Miami club Dolce Sunday night in Miami. He then tells the fans as they started to log on by the thousands to download at least one song from his just-released-but-long-delayed LP, Rebirth. Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith (who spent 30 days in jail last year for a reckless-driving incident in which his friend was killed) briefly called in to say what’s up. “Why I be so close to the camera?” Wayne laughed, making fun of himself for putting his face near the Twist’s laptop screen. “You could really tell I don’t know nothing about the computer. … I’m really like a old n—a.” Later, Wayne sends love to his hometown New Orleans Saints for their Super Bowl win. “Shout out to all the Saints out there, Reggie Bush, [Marques] Colston, Drew Brees. The Dome Patrol, Rickey Jackson for being elected to the Hall of Fame this year. Pat Swilling …” For the entire broadcast, Wayne was very upbeat. He was his usual jovial self even when talking about his upcoming jail stint . “For all the people that didn’t know, this is the last time you gonna be seeing me live for a long muthaf—in’ time. So watch: This is history.” Wayne also talked about his his work ethic, pointing to a pimple on his forehead, which he said was due to not getting any sex. “You can tell I’ve been working hard. Sleeping alone. I’ve been sleeping with my clothes on.” Weezy then started to joke about his signature dreadlocks. “My hair got bounce! That sh–‘s nice, you feel me? That sh– real nice,” he said. “This is Lil Wayne, featuring my hair. And no, I did not have to cut my air off. That’s a stupid rumor. Look at this beautiful sh–.” After playfully posing for the fans, Wayne once again talked about his tireless work schedule. “Tonight’s my last night. … I came to the studio to get some work done. To all you artists out there, that should be a message or example. I came to work.” Shortly after, Fat Joe and his manager Macho walked in. They both hugged Wayne. Joe told Weezy that he loved him and asked him if he was gonna be OK. Within minutes, Drake called in on Wayne’s cell phone. You couldn’t hear Drizzy’s words, but it was obvious that the Young Money franchise player wanted to make sure he let Wayne know how he felt. “Nah, n—a, I love you. It’s all love,” Wayne said. “You know what I told you, hold that sh– down.” As the Ustream came to an end, Wayne walked outside to start getting ready to go home. “Thank you from the bottom of me,” he said, sitting in his car before pulling away. “Do not forget about me ’cause I will forever think about you. I cannot wait for you to see me again.” Related Videos Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Photos Lil Wayne’s Battle With His Gun Possession Case Related Artists Lil Wayne

Nicki Minaj Tearfully Says Lil Wayne ‘Doesn’t Deserve To Go To Jail’

‘Reality hasn’t set in that he has to go to jail,’ the Young Money MC says. By Shaheem Reid Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Before he had to return to New York to face his one-year prison sentence , Lil Wayne gathered those close to him on Sunday night at the Miami club Dolce. The Young Money family, including Nicki Minaj , Drake, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine were in the building, as well as Wayne’s Hot Boys partner B.G. and, of course, the Birdman. While the crew celebrated the Super Bowl victory of their home team the New Orleans Saints, the mood at the party had an undercurrent of sadness, as everyone was aware of Wayne’s fate . Last week, Minaj discussed her feelings about Weezy’s sentence with MTV News. “It’s sad, because he doesn’t deserve to go to jail,” Minaj said about Wayne’s legal situation . “I’m a crybaby,” she added, fighting back tears. “You shouldn’t ask me stuff like that. Reality hasn’t set in that he has to go to jail. He shouldn’t have to go to jail.” However, Wayne has been making sure that he will still be heard from while he’s gone. Rap’s hardest-working MC shot recently videos for Young Money’s “Roger That” and “Girl I Got You,” as well as clips for Rebirth ‘s “Drop the World” and Shawty Lo’s “WTF.” According to a source close to the Young Money camp, Weezy shot an astounding 10 music videos during Super Bowl weekend in Miami. “He’s such a strong person, and it’s weird — he’s sitting there doing videos,” Nicki continued. “I found myself e-mailing him about something I wanted him to do for me. When I thought about it, I was like, ‘It’s so selfish,’ ’cause it’s, like, what is the mind frame of somebody that’s supposed to go to jail for months and never served that amount of time in jail? I don’t know. I’m always amazed at Wayne’s dignity. Everything he does, he does with dignity. No matter what you throw at him, you can’t take away his confidence. Something about him is always like, ‘I am still who I am.’ That’s just dope. This dude is a legend.” Related Photos Lil Wayne’s Weekend In Miami Lil Wayne’s Battle With His Gun Possession Case
