Lady Gaga Gets Crafty In Thanksgiving Special Preview

‘A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,’ airing Thursday on ABC, will feature a performance of ‘Marry the Night.’ By James Dinh Lady Gaga in ABC’s “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving” Photo: ABC Gather ’round, Little Monsters! Lady Gaga is serving up something special during a preview for her very-first 90-minute holiday TV special, “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,” which will air at 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday on ABC. “So excited for everyone to see the Thanksgiving Special I directed!” the pop star wrote on Twitter alongside a link to a preview. “Getting into the holiday spirit!” In a three-minute teaser, Mother Monster gathers with a crowd of third-grade children from her former elementary school to make some festive crafts and share personal holiday-food traditions. “I want everyone to go around the room and say one thing that their family makes for Thanksgiving,” she tells the swarm of girls. Gaga is met with a number of answers, including turkey, ham and pumpkin pie, and one girl’s choice leads Gaga to reveal one of her favorite Thanksgiving foods: “I love cranberry sauce. My mom makes the best cranberry sauce ever!” she tells the student. It’s just some simple chit-chat as they create Thanksgiving crafts and later help the pop superstar tie her apron. In addition to the festive footage, Gaga also takes to an intimate stage to perform “Bad Romance” and, later on, to an outside balcony for her latest single, “Marry the Night.” Dressed in a shoulder-less black dress with matching hand gloves, the songstress channels her inner Audrey Hepburn as she offers fans some dramatic poses during the number. Can’t get enough of Gaga’s holiday tunes? The singer just released a four-track digital EP called A Very Gaga Holiday on iTunes, which includes “White Christmas,” “Orange Colored Sky,” “Yo

Kenneth Branagh on My Week With Marilyn, His Brush With Olivier, and the Curse of the Difficult Actor

As arguably the film world’s closest contemporary equivalent to Sir Laurence Olivier, the classically trained, commercially adventurous actor/filmmaker Kenneth Branagh makes an ideal candidate to play the great man in this week’s My Week With Marilyn .

‘X Factor’: How Will Astro Address Last Week’s Drama?

Plus: Nicole Scherzinger’s Over 30’s step it up after Stacy Francis’ ouster. By Jim Cantiello Astro on “X Factor” Photo: FOX MTV News’ own Jim Cantiello is exclusively covering “The X Factor” rehearsals. Read on for his fly-on-the-wall backstage report! We’re five weeks into the “X Factor” live shows, and sleep deprivation has finally caught up with everyone. Not just the contestants, mind you, but the crew too. With Thanksgiving shifting the production schedule up a day, Team X has been working for almost two weeks straight without a day off. During rehearsals, contestants are cramming in this week’s performances as well as next week’s songs to allow for a day or two off this holiday week — not to mention a double elimination looming over everyone’s heads. And you thought last week’s Astro drama was intense. Speaking of ‘Stro, the young MC is ready to accept any backlash headed his way after his defiant moment in the bottom two. He’s already apologized on his Facebook wall and on Twitter, but I’m also hearing rumblings of an apology in his pre-performance package. Plus, as he always does, he’ll be performing an autobiographical original verse, so you might want to pay extra-close attention to his sly wordplay. Fresh off sending Stacy Francis home , Nicole Scherzinger is pushing her remaining Over 30’s to be as bold as possible. Perhaps that’s why one dude’s tackling an instrument — a live-show first! — and the other dude is trying his hand at a girl’s song. Will the risks pay off? (They certainly did in rehearsals.) Over the weekend, one of Simon Cowell’s girls got a taste of movie magic as she performed in front of a giant green screen. Creative director Brian Friedman shouted descriptions to her to help situate her in a virtual world, which was then digitally added in postproduction. She won’t be performing in front of a green screen come Tuesday night, however. All that work was just for a background graphic that will play behind her as she sings live. Thanks to everyone’s exhaustion, some “X Factor” team members are getting even punchier and zanier. Stylist June Ambrose popped outside of her trailer in a glittery head wrap that would have been perfect for Gloria Swanson had she ever visited Studio 54. “I’m disco, darling,” she proclaimed to the crew members walking by. Her playful antics caught the eye of judge and mentor Paula Abdul, who quickly ran over to the trailer for an impromptu dress-up play date. If only I got an invite … In other Paula news, the mentor all but gave away country-pop group Lakoda Rayne’s song choice during a Ustream broadcast with fans. “It’s a song by someone who did pretty great these past 24 hours. And won lots of awards,” she coyly said. (One only needs to check out the list of 2011 American Music Awards winners to be able to whittle down what artist Lakoda Rayne will be paying homage to in Tuesday’s live show.) And I’ll leave you with my biggest burning question of the week: Will the paint dry in time? Seriously! Hours before showtime, one particular set piece was being slathered with a new coat at the last minute. And considering a contestant will be performing on this Aggro Crag-like structure, will her outfit get soiled by wet paint? Keep your eyes peeled, those of you with HD TVs! You can catch Jim on the “X Factor Pepsi Pre-Show,” streaming at 7 p.m. ET tonight on TheXFactorUSA.com !

Rihanna Causes Stir In U.K., France

Singer, whose Talk That Talk is out this week, offended audience with what she wore on Britain’s ‘X Factor.’ By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna performs on X Factor UK Photo: itv Rihanna seems to be making trouble everywhere she goes these days. On Sunday night, she accepted her American Music Award for Favorite R&B/Soul Album remotely from the U.K., where she was performing on “The X Factor.” And part of her ensemble for that performance had heads turning. Donning a demure plaid dress and clunky punk shoes with writing scrawled all over them, one phrase on the footwear had some people up in arms. According to The Telegraph , the words “F— Off” were written on Ri’s shoes. While the offensive statement may have left audiences a bit shocked, a spokesperson for the show played down the controversy. “There were no close-up shots of Rihanna’s shoes,” the spokesperson said. “We believe the performance was suitable.” Rihanna caused a similar stir last December when she appeared on the British reality program scantily clad in a provocative outfit. It’s not just the Brits that Rihanna is making blush. According to Pressparty , Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video has been banned from being played before 10 p.m. in France. The Officials at the Supreme Audiovisual Council of France have deemed the video, which includes drug use, sex and domestic violence, inappropriate for viewing before that hour. The video’s director, Melina Matsoukas, recently defended the video’s imagery when she spoke to MTV News. “We love, obviously, to do provocative imagery … we always try to definitely push the limits,” Matsoukas said. “I think because, in the end, it’s not really at all about domestic violence. It’s really just about it being toxic, and they’re on this drug trip and that definitely plays a part, but I think it’s also about being triumphant over those weaknesses, and she leaves him. It’s not trying to glorify that type of relationship. The bad parts of it, that’s what you don’t want. In the end, her leaving, it represents her getting that out of her life. The drugs and the addiction and the toxic — that’s what brings her downfall and brings a lot of harm.” Rihanna’s video for “S&M,” also directed by Matsoukas, was banned for using provocative imagery when it was released back in February. Rihanna drops her new album, Talk That Talk , a grinding party record full of provocative lyrics, this week. “We Found Love” is the first single off the record. Related Artists Rihanna

Howie D Doing Crunches Before Britney Spears Lap Dance

Backstreet Boy jokes to MTV News that he’ll be ready ‘if she does, by chance, pick me to do that’ on Femme Fatale Tour. By Jocelyn Vena Howie D Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Howie D is set to hit the road with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour this weekend, but there’s one thing he may not be ready for: getting one of her famous onstage lap dances . “I just heard about it, and it just means that I have to go into major workout mode now,” the Backstreet Boy joked to MTV News. “I have to do more pushups and crunches than I ever did, because I want to make sure that I represent myself and my group properly.” If Brit does decide to give him a lap dance, he already sees a potential perk. “If she does, by chance, pick me to do that, which I’m not opposed to, it’s a good get-out-of-jail-free card for me,” he laughed, pointing to his wedding band. “So I’m down with it. It’s all in the name of music.” The string of South American tour dates happens to be timed perfectly to the release of Howie D’s first-ever solo album, Back to Me, and he’s got some fun stuff in store for lucky fans who come to check him out. “Well, I’m actually taking a lot from what I’ve learned from the Backstreet Boys and implementing it into my show,” he revealed. “Actually, on the show with me I have a DJ that’s behind me and we’re kind of working on some stuff together. [There’s] even some Backstreet Boys songs. I’m definitely not shying away and presenting what the fans want to hear, but at the same time premiering some of my new songs off the record and it’s just gonna be a fun, energy-packed, ‘get your mind away for 20 minutes’ on my set [show].” Related Artists Howie D.
