Cal: Amanpour Thinks Like Nasr But Too Smart To Tweet It

CNN fired an editor for expressing “a lot” of “respect” for a Hezbollah leader the US had designated a terrorist.  So how has ABC dealt with someone with similar views?  By hiring her and awarding her the prestigious plum of host of This Week. So what’s the difference between Octavia Nasr and Christiane Amanpour?  According to Cal Thomas, little, when it comes to their views.  It’s just that Amanpour is too smart and sophisticated to stick her views on a Tweet. Thomas shared his insight on this weekend’s editon of Fox News Watch. JON SCOTT: A Tweet that cost a reporter her job.  Octavia Nasr was CNN’s senior Middle East editor for 20 years until this week, when learning of the death of a Hezbollah    cleric she decided to share her grief via Twitter, writing there “sad to hear of the passing of Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah.  One of Hezbollah’s giants I respect a lot.”  A giant whom she so respected, designated a terrorist by the US Treasury Department. The Tweet immediately became a center of controversy and CNN fired Ms. Nasr. . . . . CAL THOMAS: The dirty little secret here is that she was simply expressing viewpoints that is widespread not only in the American media but much of the Euro media.  If you watch the BBC, for example, as I frequently do when I’m over there, coverage of the Middle East, it is virtually all one-sided, pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel.  Christiane Amanpour holds many of these views as well, I would daresay, but she is smart enough and sophisticated enough not to stick them on a Tweet. Jake Tapper has been drawing widespread praise and solid ratings while serving as This Week guest host.  Is ABC sure it wants to hand the reins over to someone with Amanpour’s ample baggage?

New Social Network Teaser: Sony Finally Stops Its Relentless Detagging

It may not be the imminent full trailer , but the second teaser for David Fincher’s The Social Network is so clever (and so much better than the first one ) that it’s been frustrating how determined Sony was to stamp it out whenever it popped up online this week. Finally, now that the NYFF -tied announcement about the film has been made, the studio has finally given the teaser its official online unveiling. Watch, enjoy, and “like” it.

Evening News Watch: NBC Trick May Have Enabled Big 3 Nets to Avoid Going Below Combined 19 Million Last Week

Last week, Matt Robare at NewsBusters noted the fact that the Big 3 networks’ combined year-over-year audience fell by a bit more than 1 million during the second quarter. Last week’s showing appears to be to a slight pickup over the previous week, but it may have been much worse. Here, per Media Bistro, is how the the week of June 28 as reported by Nielsen compared to the week of June 21, the last reporting week of the aforementioned dismal quarter: June 21 — NBC – 7,190,000; ABC – 6,740,000; CBS – 5,230,000; Total – 19,160,000. June 28 — NBC – 7,800,000; ABC – 6,740,000; CBS – 4,970,000; Total – 19,510,000. So how did NBC attract over 600,000 additional viewers during the week of June 28, increasing its audience by over 8%? The answer, according to Media Bistro’s Kevin Allocca, is that the network probably didn’t: On Thursday and Friday, “NBC Nightly News” was coded as “Nitely News” in the Nielsen ratings (similar to last summer) and the newscast was therefore excluded from the average over those two lower-rated days heading into the holiday weekend while Brian Williams was out. ABC and CBS averages are based on all five days. Clever, eh? In his coverage of last year’s NBC similar trick during the week of June 29 — a week where the reported combined audience was 20,180,000 — Media Bistro’s Chris Ariens observed that “The practice, however, is within Nielsen’s guidelines.” Some “guidelines.” That’s like a baseball team getting away with excluding its worst two innings, or an NBA team unilaterally deciding that the second half didn’t count. Given that one of its competitors lost ground week to week while the other just stayed even, it’s reasonable to believe that NBC’s June 28 full-week performance was no better than June 21. If so, the total audience at the Big Three networks really fell below 19 million. Oh, how the formerly mighty in the statism-compliant establishment media have fallen, and continue to fall. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Topless Photos: Attractive

Okay, Transformers 3 , we forgive you. When it was first announced that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley would replace Megan Fox in the third installment of this franchise, we were quite disturbed because… well, have you seen Megan Fox?!? But the Victoria’s Secret model has proven Michael Bay and company correct by doing what she does best: posing seductively. In the following photos, believed to be from DT Magazine, Huntington-Whiteley sheds her top, protrudes a few ribs and makes us look forward to Transformers 3 for reasons that have nothing to do with its inevitably awful script…

Kendra Wilkinson Slides Into Home, Invites Mockery

Let’s play a game: Name the strangest thing about the fact that Kendra Wilkinson held a book signing in New York City yesterday, as evidenced by the photos below. Was it… … the title of her memoir, “Sliding Into Home,” and the never-ending source of double entendres and puns this allows for? … the idea that Kendra herself wrote a book with more words than pictures? … the incredible coincidence that that this reality star’s sex tape just happened to be released around the same time as her biography? We mean, this is clearly nothing more than a coincidence, right? Husband Hank Baskett was also on hand to support and kiss his wife. Peep the pics now…

Jessica Simpson Baby News: Coming Someday!

Sitting in on an OK! Magazine staff meeting would be so awesome. There’s an element to celebrity gossip that is always, well, gossip. You take what you read with a grain of salt. But there’s gossip, and there’s deliberately and wholly inventing cover stories, misleading readers with vague text and exclamation points. Guess Jessica Simpson’s name came up in the lottery this week, or the darts landed on her, because she’s apparently having a baby! Would you believe that the same story was reported almost verbatim last week, only about Jennifer Aniston ? It’s true! Doubly joyful news! CONFIRMED : OK! wrote a cover story! Consider it REVEALED! According to this fine publication, as Jessica nears her 30th birthday this week, she has a new man ( Eric Johnson ) and a new plan – to become a mother! The first part of that is true, at least. But then there’s this line: “Enjoying an early birthday celebration at the Greenbrier Casino Club gala opening in West Virginia on July 4, Jess caused a stir with her visible bump !” No word if they mean a visible bump on her head or knee. Seriously, time to get a little more creative with your made-up nonsense, guys. You’re going to be labeled the magazine that cried fake-pregnant wolf.

Justin Bieber to Remain Pure, Respect Women, Take Cold Showers Mother Says

Hold those Biebergasms, ladies. While Justin Bieber may be looking for Somebody to Love, he doesn’t mean that in a physical sense. At least not according to his mom. Yes, Pattie Mallette – who will NOT be posing nude in Playboy! – spoke to E! News this week about her 16-year old son’s sex life. Or, to be specific (and heartbreaking to women around the world), the lackthereof. “He’s expressed his desire to stay pure, and honor women, and treat women with respect,” Mallette says in the all-access video below. Looks like many cold showers are ahead for Justin, and for Caitlin Beadles … All Acess
