As you may have heard, the private accounts of executives at Sony Pictures were hacked recently as part of an effort to block the studio from releasing the upcoming Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy, The Interview. If you think that sounds like a lot of effort just to keep a single movie out of theaters, well…you’re right. But you have to realize that the film centers around a plot to kill North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, a man who is – how do we put this? – totally batsh-t insane. 9 Things We Learned From the Sony Hacking Scandal 1. New Ghostbusters Cast Revealed! One email reveals that the studio is hoping to have Jennifer Lawrence, Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone, and Lizzy Caplan star in the upoming all-female Ghostbusters reboot. Well, “all-female” isn’t quite accurate. The ladies will be joined by an A-list male star, who will apparently need to be dragged to the set kicking and screaming… As Sony execs learned this week, a egomaniacal psycho with control over the resources and manpower of an entire nation can be a very dangerous thing. Just imagine for a second if Kanye West commanded an army. Now you have an idea of the volatility of the Kim situation. (Jong Un, not Kardashian). Two private emails sent by Sony’s top brass received the majority of the headlines this week: In the first, exec Scott Rudin called Angelina Jolie a “spoiled brat,” among other choice phrases. In the other, producer Amy Pascal made racist comments about Barack Obama , speculating that the President enjoys slavery-themed films such as Django: Unchained and 12 Years a Slave. So yeah, pretty damaging stuff. But while those might be the hardest missives to explain away, some equally embarrassing information has gone public, and some bigwig heads are likely to roll thanks to the efforts of Kim’s goons. You can’t help but appreciate the irony – in his effort to block a movie from theaters, Kim accidentally provided us with some solid real-life entertainment. Maybe he’s not so bad after all! Just kidding, he’s the worst.
