MPAA Whisperer Harvey Weinstein Gets PG-13 For Miral

Good news, kids: Less than 48 hours after Julian Schnabel’s public dismay over the “R” rating for his new, youth-focused Middle East drama Miral , the MPAA has come around with a PG-13. A tsunami of youngs will no doubt ensue at the art house when the film opens March 25 via… who else? The Weinstein Company, whose MPAA -whispering godfather Harvey Weinstein also happened to shake off Blue Valentine ‘s NC-17 last fall. (To say nothing of his forcing of The King’s Speech’s R-rated square peg into a PG-13 round hole .) Congrats to the whole team! [ THR ]

Who Looked More Bangin’: Gabrielle Union vs. Jennifer Lopez

J. Lo and Gabby were spotted at Mont Blanc’s Cocktail Party in Hollyweird last night , one dressed in all black like the omen; the other on her Greco-Roman goddess ish. Who looked more bangin’??? We were going to throw Kerry Washington into the mix… but we don’t think she was feeling herself last night.

J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets: The Weinstein Brothers Have Their Priorities Straight

Tensions were running high at Movieline HQ in the lead up to our Golden Globes liveblog on Sunday night , because there stood a chance that the NFL playoff game between the New York Jets and New England Patriots might run past 8 p.m. on the East Coast. Naturally, we planned to flip over the Globes (or at least that’s what we told everyone), but it appears Harvey and Bob Weinstein had a different idea.

Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ Coming To ‘Glee,’ Amber Riley Says

‘Glee’ actress tells MTV News to also expect ‘Somebody to Love.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Amber Riley Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty We already knew Justin Bieber’s music will turn up on an upcoming episode of “Glee,” but we weren’t sure which smash the McKinley High crew would be remaking — until now. “Glee” star Amber Riley confirmed to MTV News on Sunday (January 16) that not just one, but two Bieber jams will be made over by the cast of the hit song-and-dance show, including the Ludacris-assisted chart-topper “Baby,” which was dubbed the most viewed music video on YouTube in 2010 . “There’s gonna be two Bieber songs, and I think ‘Baby’ is one. I think that’s correct,” Riley disclosed on the Golden Globes red carpet. According to Riley, the Gleeks are also set to rock another Bieber-helmed dance-floor filler: “Somebody to Love.” “I think … those are the two songs,” she revealed. “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy also recently dished that part of Bieber’s pop&B repertoire would make it into the show. In a very apt use of the pop star’s teen-hysteria-inducing hits, Murphy said the Biebs’ music would be the backdrop for a scene in which one of the fellas tries to win over one of the “Glee” ladies. “Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. Sam [Chord Overstreet] sings a J.B. song to win Quinn’s [Dianna Agron] approval,” Murphy said recently. In addition to Bieber, Lady Gaga is slated to get the “Glee” treatment once again, this time for a track that hasn’t even dropped. Murphy said Mother Monster’s forthcoming “Born This Way” single will serve as the inspiration for an episode about school bully Karofsky (played by Max Adler), who the show has hinted is gay. “I love that that song is [an] anthem,” Murphy said. “This show is by nature optimistic, and I think a character like Karofsky could turn to booze or pills or alcohol and kill themselves or do something dark. But I also love Max and I love that character and I sorta want that character to have a happy ending. “So I don’t really know what that’s going to be,” he continued. “But I do know we’re going to do a whole episode that’s about that song.” Are you looking forward to hearing the “Glee” cast perform Justin Bieber’s music? Ryan Gosling Had ‘No Nerves’ Going Into The Golden Globes

‘We were in no danger of winning,’ the ‘Blue Valentine’ star tells MTV News of his Best Actor in a Drama loss. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ryan Gosling Photo: David Livingston/ Getty Images The last few interactions MTV News has had with Ryan Gosling have been interesting, to say the least. Going back to January 2010, when we first had the opportunity to sit down with him and “Blue Valentine” co-star Michelle Williams, what should have been a serious conversation about a serious movie ended up introducing us to a new term: “cranking.” “It’s when you cry while you masturbate,” Gosling explained at the time. Now, ever since that fateful interview, it’s become a running joke, and we bring it up every time we encounter the Golden Globe-nominated actor. Case in point, the Weinstein Golden Globes afterparty, where we asked Gosling if he would be dealing with his loss in the Best Actor category to “King’s Speech” star Colin Firth by cranking. Gosling scoffed at that suggestion and insisted he has never cranked. “I never did crank,” he said. “I know you think that I did, but I didn’t.” Fair enough, Ryan. So in all seriousness, how did he handle the pressure of being nominated and then not winning? “We were in no danger of winning,” Gosling said. “So there were no nerves, no speeches to plan. Just [going] to have a nice night. I had a nice time — did you?” Gosling asked of “Valentine” writer/director Derek Cianfrance. “I had a very nice night, yes,” Cianfrance responded. “There was nice cucumber sandwiches on white bread. Little rectangles, finger sandwiches, I think. That was a good time.” “There was a menu,” Gosling added. “But no evidence of what was on that menu ever appeared.” We’ve got the Golden Globes covered! Israel Loyalist Harvey Weinstein Picks Up Julian Schnabel’s Palestinean Drama Miral

Were it not for their previous, successful collaborations on the 1996 biopic Basquiat and 2008’s Lou Reed’s Berlin , I would pay top freaking dollar for a ringside seat to watch Julian Schnabel and Harvey Weinstein battle over Miral , the Schnabel drama acquired Monday by the Weinstein Company. Never mind the likely editing-suite drama or the marketing meltdowns sure to follow Harvey’s modest entreaty, “Frieda Pinto. Wild Wild Girls . Think about it.” This time it’s allll about the Holy Land.

Miramax: Deal or No Deal?

Following preemptive reports that the Weinsteins (i.e. their backers, including Ron Burkle) won back their studio, all hell broke loose overnight in the Miramax sweepstakes. In a nutshell, Disney has reportedly denied that a Weinstein sale is imminent; if anything, the Weinsteins are closer to securing an exclusive negotiating window with Disney than they are to striking an actual deal. Come on , competitors David Bergstein and the Gores brothers! Let the Weinsteins have their baby! There’s a perfectly good gently used studio in MGM that could desperately use suitors like you ; go harass them, for heaven’s sake. [ Deadline ]
