It seems like Sean Penn schedules his birthday the day after Madonna ‘s almost every single year, which shows his true character. But let this not be a day of judgment! New Coriolanus Poster: Fiennes and Butler Square Off

I’m always nervous for adaptations of less-appreciated Shakespearean works. If you’re going to mount, say, Titus Andronicus , you have to find a way to make the violence meaningful. If you’re heading up a Tempest reboot , you have to deal with the extraneous fourth act elegantly. And if you’re reworking Coriolanus , you have to — well — find a way to make it interesting. Luckily, Ralph Fiennes is summoning his Amon Goeth fury in the poster for the new Weinstein adaptation, and Gerard Butler looks tough as his adversary. Excited?

Jonathan Levine has directed two feature films ( The Wackness and next month’s 50/50 ) since seeing his 2006 directorial debut, the indie horror pic All the Boys Love Mandy Lane , infamously go from a Weinstein Co. pick-up to a Weinstein Co. cast-off sold to Senator Entertainment, who then went out of business themselves. Transformers: Dark of the Moon Opens to Solid — Not Great — Early Crowds

Transformers: Dark of the Moon opened to a solid $13.5 million from its late Tuesday /early Wednesday screenings, including $5.5 million from the 3-D-only presentations leading the way Tuesday night. The figures exceed the early grosses from the series’ 2007 original but fall short of the $16 million that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen pulled down at midnight in 2009. Paramount currently anticipates a six-day holiday weekend tally above $160 million; drop back by Movieline tomorrow for our own Weekend Forecast predictions, which will be significantly higher. TRAILER: Let’s Have Quirky Teenage Sex in a Whimsical Pool of Tears in Submarine

Our own Christopher Rosen (who I affectionately call “Crose” or “Croze” or “Croseanne Cash,” in case you were wondering) reviewed the UK trailer for the cute-ass Sundance fave Submarine before, and since then, it’s gotten cuter. In this new-ass American trailer for Richard Ayoade’s directorial debut, romantic kiddies enjoy quirky sex with each other and remain tolerable while doing so. Put on your hip Serge Gainsbourg-theme condom and hump along.
