Source: Daniele Kaesler / Getty 21-year old Douglas Braden Smyser allegedly ate methamphetamine before boarding a plane and starting tweaking so much that the flight was forced to land early. According to federal charging papers, Smyser refused to stay in his seat, talked about having a gun and kept trying to move to first class seating. KIRO 7 News reports, Crew members “became concerned” about his behavior almost immediately and about a half hour after takeoff, the pilot decided to land in Portland because he was afraid Smyser would rush the cockpit. Passengers helped keep Smyser in his seat by physically blocking him until officers arrived and took him into custody. Douglas reportedly had been kicked out of a sober living house in Seattle and decided to check into a drug rehabilitation center in Malibu, which is what lead him to boarding the flight in the first place. He is being charged with second-degree disorderly conduct and menacing.

According to the Montgomery Advertiser , Goodloe Sutton is the publisher of the Democrat-Reporter in the small town of Linden, Alabama, and he wants the Ku Klux Klan to return to full power. He published an editorial in the Democrat-Reporter calling for “the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again” against “Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats [who] are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama.” Sutton confirmed his words to the Montgomery Advertiser on Monday, saying “If we could get the Klan to go up there and clean out D.C., we’d all been better off.” He didn’t stop there either. When asked to elaborate, Sutton suggested lynching. “We’ll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them,” Sutton said. When asked if he felt it was wrong for the publisher of a newspaper to promote lynching Americans, Sutton continued: “… It’s not calling for the lynchings of Americans. These are socialist-communists we’re talking about. Do you know what socialism and communism is?” Sutton wrote in the newspaper editorial: “Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama. They do not understand how to eliminate expenses when money is needed in other areas. This socialist-communist ideology sounds good to the ignorant, the uneducated, and the simple-minded people.” When asked if he understood the KKK is a racist and violent group, Sutton disagreed. He had the audacity to compare the Klan to the NAACP. “A violent organization? Well, they didn’t kill but a few people,” Sutton said. “The Klan wasn’t violent until they needed to be.” Sutton allegedly doesn’t know any Klan members remaining in his area, saying that most of them died after the 1960s. He did, however, welcome people to call him, write him a letter or boycott him if they disagreed. Sutton has worked at the paper since 1964, inheriting the publication from his father. The publication has a history of acclaim in the 1990s when it reported on a corrupt local sheriff. For his coverage, Sutton was inducted into the University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Communication Hall of Fame in 2007. That title has now been revoked in light of Sutton’s lynching article. The Advertiser reached out to the Alabama Press Association, the state trade association for newspapers in the state, to question whether or not Sutton and the Democrat-Reporter were members. APA executive director Felicia Mason responded, saying: “We do not agree with the opinion. However, APA is not a policing agency. We simply have no authority over what our member newspapers publish.” Smh. Per usual, the violent racists continue to have a platform in the streets and in the media.

The frat bros are being accused of several hazing-related crimes including ordering pledges to lie in piles of broken glass, kicking them with steel-toed boots and urinating on them. Delta Kappa Epsilon has also closed the chapter indefinitely. The New York Post reports that the alleged hazing included gasoline being poured on pledges, pledges being forced to submerge themselves in an ice machine wearing nothing but their underwear, pledges being beaten with metal pipes and fraternity members allegedly attempting to put out cigarettes on them. Citing a police report, the Post adds that one victim claimed that he was made to lie down on broken glass and was urinated on. He adds that a second pledge was also urinated on while he laid face down on the glass. One victim “stated that after he was taken out of the ice machine, he was made to lay in the nearby basketball court. He stated that the basketball court had broken glass all over it, which he was made to lie on top of,” the documents say. “The victim stated that another pledge was made to lie on the court next to him, face down while they were both sprayed with a hose, had milk crates thrown at them and were urinated on.” There’s also a report of a “new boy shower” where the pledges held a milk crate filled with ice and cayenne pepper above their heads while standing in a cold shower and looking up. The ice would then melt and the pepper would drip into their eyes. Those arrested have charges ranging from misdemeanor hazing to felony second-degree battery and false imprisonment. The New York Times reports that he’ll divert $3.6 billion budgeted for military construction projects to the border wall along with $2.5 billion from counternarcotics programs and $600 million from a Treasury Department asset forfeiture fund. House Democrats are already planning to introduce legislation to block this move.
