How Did Aretha Franklin React to Whitney Houston’s Death?

In the wake of Whitney Houston’s death, the public has heard numerous responses from those that knew the legend well ( Ray J ) to know those speculating wildly in order to increase ratings ( Nancy Grace ). But few were closer to Houston than Aretha Franklin, the artist’s godmother. She spoke to The Today Show this morning about actually hearing the tragic news. “I had just finished watching George Clooney in The Descendants and I flipped back to the regular TV and maybe two minutes after I did that, it came across the screen. I just jumped off the side of the bed [and said] ‘What?’ This could not be. What is this? I just said, ‘Oh my, God.'” Franklin said she had seen previews for Sparkle, a film Houston had recently completed shooting, and was confident the movie would lead to a comeback. “She looked fresh, she looked healthy and she looked gorgeous,” the iconic singer said. “I thought, ‘Yes, she has conquered her challenges and she’s on the way.'” Aretha will sing at Houston’s funeral tomorrow and hopes the public doesn’t focus on “the challenges” her goddaughter faced, but, instead, on all the positive aspects of her life. She even penned the following lyrics to memorialize Houston: Twinkle twinkle superstar/We don’t wonder where you are/Up above the world so bright/Like a diamond in the night/Twinkle twinkle she stood alone/I can’t believe that she’s gone.

New Virginia Law Is Being Called “State-Funded Rape”…Do You Agree?

Virginia keeps getting more and more backwards. And their new abortion law is just insane. This week, the Virginia state Legislature passed a bill that would require women to have an ultrasound before they may have an abortion. Because the great majority of abortions occur during the first 12 weeks, that means most women will be forced to have a transvaginal procedure, in which a probe is inserted into the vagina, and then moved around until an ultrasound image is produced. Since a proposed amendment to the bill—a provision that would have had the patient consent to this bodily intrusion or allowed the physician to opt not to do the vaginal ultrasound—failed on 64-34 vote, the law provides that women seeking an abortion in Virginia will be forcibly penetrated for no medical reason. What’s more, a provision of the law that has received almost no media attention would ensure that a certification by the doctor that the patient either did or didn’t “avail herself of the opportunity” to view the ultrasound or listen to the fetal heartbeat will go into the woman’s medical record. Whether she wants it there or not. So if you want an abortion in Virginia, you’ll be forcibly penetrated whether you really want it or not – by an ultrasound probing device. The point is to shame women into hearing heartbeats and seeing their child before having the abortion. Then it’ll go on their records. The government is really trying to take women’s rights away one state at a time. Pic via Wikipedia More On Bossip! Ray J Feels Overwhelming ‘Emptiness’ Over Loss Of Whitney Houston

‘What my heart feels cannot be expressed in words,’ singer says in a statement issued to MTV News. By Rob Markman Ray J and Whitney Houston in 2008 Photo: Denise Truscello/WireImage The sudden death of Whitney Houston has left her family, friends and fans broken-hearted. And on Friday (February 17), her close friend Ray J finally ended his silence, releasing this statement to MTV News: “Over the past few days I’ve tried to process the emptiness that I am experiencing. What my heart feels cannot be expressed in words. The world lost an icon but I lost my close friend. Nippy I miss you so much! You were so happy and full of love. Your smile will live in my heart forever.” The “One Wish” singer was no doubt close to Houston, and while neither ever confirmed a romance, it was widely speculated that he and Houston were an item. Soon after Houston was found dead in her L.A. hotel room on February 11, reports began to surface that it was Ray J who found her body in a bath tub at the Beverly Hilton. Those reports were quickly refuted by Ray J’s representative. The statement comes just a day before Houston is to be laid to rest following her funeral at Newark, New Jersey’s New Hope Baptist Church Saturday at noon. The funeral is invite-only, but fans will be able to watch an online live stream . New Hope Pastor Joe A. Carter will preside over the ceremony, and gospel singer Marvin Winans will give the eulogy. People magazine reported on Thursday that Kevin Costner, who co-starred with Houston in the 1992 film “The Bodyguard,” will also speak at the funeral.
