‘American Idol’ Music Director Rickey Minor To Join ‘Tonight Show’

Following Kevin Eubanks’ departure, Minor will join Jay Leno in June. By Gil Kaufman Rickey Minor Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images The late-night talk show turnover machine keeps churning, as Tuesday brought news that one day after Jay Leno lost longtime bandleader Kevin Eubanks, he quickly picked up a replacement: “American Idol” music director Rickey Minor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Minor will make his debut on “The Tonight Show” on June 7, just after Eubanks’ departure in May and the season-nine finale of “Idol” on May 26. “It is a privilege for all of us to have Rickey on board,” said Debbie Vickers, “Tonight Show” executive producer. “We couldn’t be more excited. The ‘Tonight Show’ has a long tradition of acclaimed musicians in this role, and it’s great to now include Rickey alongside Kevin and Branford [Marsalis].” Minor, a mostly off-camera presence on “Idol,” does bring a musical pedigree, with a long r

Justin Bieber, Tina Fey Make A Dynamic Duo On ‘Saturday Night Live’

‘He was one of the babies in ‘Baby Mama,’ Fey jokes about teen sensation. By Josh Wigler Justin Bieber performs on “Saturday Night Live” Photo: NBC Justin Bieber was this week’s musical guest on “Saturday Night Live,” but the teen sensation’s appearance went far beyond that. In fact, Bieber practically acted as a co-host for Tina Fey by energetically participating in several of the show’s skits. Bieber made his debut during Fey’s opening monologue. The “30 Rock” star joked that she’d noticed an unusual amount of young female fans throughout the week’s preparations for the show. “I must be more of a role model than I thought,” she deadpanned before acknowledging that the fan base had actually gathered for Bieber. “He was one of the babies in ‘Baby Mama’ — two years ago,” she joked about her past association with the singer. Bieber then joined Fey on stage for a brief rendition of “I’m Every Woman” (a hit for both Chaka Khan and Whitney Houston), which was used to comically demonstrate how Fey juggles her responsibilities on “30 Rock,” “Date Night” and other creative endeavors, including her guest stint on “SNL.” Later, Bieber starred in a skit as Jason Deeps, a C+ student in Tina Fey’s fictional high-school science class. Fey’s teacher character constantly fantasized about Bieber’s character, a student she described as “a dreamy Christmas elf” who looked like “a baby bunny sniffing a tiny flower.” In response, Bieber’s Deeps flirted with Fey — presumably setting young hearts aflutter across the country — and sang her a variety of fantasy songs, during which he promised to “buy her a Panini and some spanks to make her teeny.” Immediately thereafter, Bieber hit the stage for an energetic performance of “Baby,” the hit single from his My World 2.0. LP . Accompanied by a group of dancers, Bieber did a solid job on the song’s rap section , performed by Ludacris on the record. For his second performance, Bieber sang “U Smile.” At the end of the song, Bieber told Fey that every time she smiles, he smiles. In addition to Bieber’s contributions, the “Saturday Night Live” gang lampooned several hot topics including Jesse James’ alleged infidelity towards Sandra Bullock, Tiger Woods’ recent return to golf and President Barack Obama’s 2010 Census Form. Fey also reprised her famous impersonation of Sarah Palin, pretending to launch an Oprah Winfrey-inspired television network with programs such as “Are You Smarter Than a Half-Term Governor,” “That’s So Palin” and “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” The Fey-Bieber lovefest concluded with a big hug during the show’s finale. Whitney Houston is a "Hot Mess," Witness Says

Recent reports claim that Whitney Houston canceled the European leg of her tour because of illness. But those that spotted the singer at the Beverly Wilshire in Los Angeles on March 10 say there’s a different reason behind Houston’s change of plans: she’s back on drugs. This should come as no surprise to anyone that watched Whitney sing in Australia a couple months ago. It was an absolute trainwreck . Now, according to some dude named Marlon David, Houston has a serious problem – and it was on full display at the aforementioned hotel’s bar. Appearing disheveled and walking in with ex-husband Bobby Brown, Whitney allegedly screamed “I want a f*ckin’ drink!” From there, David recounts to In Touch Weekly : “I saw her pull a plastic bag out, put a folded bill to her nose and discreetly snort a line from it of what to me certainly looked like cocaine. She’s extremely thin and looks like a disaster. She’s a hot mess.” How did Brown react to this scene? He was actually disgusted by it, David said: “He had so much trouble trying to control her. He tried to make her leave, but she wouldn’t. She started yelling his name loudly and calling him a stupid son of a bitch, and he told her to shut the f*ck up.” This is all very sad, really. Back when Whitney sang “I Will Always Love You,” who could have guessed she was addressing it to drugs and alcohol?

Whitney Houston Postpones European Shows Due To Illness

An upper respiratory infection has forced Houston to reschedule concerts in Paris, Manchester and Glasgow. By Jocelyn Vena Whitney Houston performs in Saitama, Japan (file) Photo: Jun Sato/ WireImage Whitney Houston has postponed a handful of dates on her European tour because she is reportedly suffering from an upper respiratory infection and has been advised by her doctors not to perform. According to the Web site for the Manchester, England, venue where Houston was scheduled to perform on Thursday, Friday, she has postponed those shows until June 16 and 17. The 46-year-old singer also rescheduled Sunday’s concert in Glasgow, Scotland, for May 1. On Tuesday, Houston was forced to sit out her show in Paris. “Doctors visited Whitney late last night in Paris and confirmed that she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection,” says a statement on the Manchester Evening News Arena’s site . “Upon medical advice Whitney has been advised that she cannot perform to allow her time to recover. “Only last month Whitney had said how excited she was to be performing again in the U.K. after her 11-year absence and was looking forward to performing new songs as well as crowd favorites,” the statement continues. In February, after some fans and critics said Houston was out of breath and had trouble hitting notes during her concerts in Australia, her rep denied that she was having health trouble. “Whitney is in great health and having a terrific time on her tour and with her fans,” the publicist told E! Online . Houston staged a comeback late last summer and released her first album of new material in seven years, I Look To You. The singer explained that the album addresses many of the things she has been through. “All the triumphs and the ups and downs and stuff, it’s all incorporated on the album, and hopefully not only does it inspire me, but inspires a whole lot of other people,” she told MTV News before the album’s release. “That makes it real,” she said of singing about personal struggles. “The changes that we go through, the transitions that we go through, the tests that we go through, being a mother, becoming a single mother — it all had its ups and its downs, but for the most part, I kept my faith and I kept my head up and I took my time.” Related Artists Whitney Houston
