“Mantasia” himself, Joshua Ledet, led off American Idol’s Top 13 with a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” that he said was “totally out of my comfort zone.” With a little help from a piano player with a gospel background similar to Joshua’s, you wouldn’t have known it Wednesday night. He did a nice job with it. Skylar Laine says she’s actually never sung a Whitney Houston song before. With “Where Do Broken Hearts Go,” she may have done the late icon justice. To be sure, Skylar Laineis no Whitney Houston … or even Jessica Sanchez . However, American Idol often rewards the underdog who strays out of his or her genre and picks up unfamiliar or challenging material quickly. She doesn’t sound like Whitney, but Skylar is who she is, and that’s formidable – a country girl who has proved she can sing anything. Why did Bobbi Kristina agree to do her first interview with Oprah since Whitney Houston’s death? Some say it was to help Oprah’s struggling ratings on her OWN Network, others say it is for money. However, according to sources, the REAL reason is because Bobbi Kristina feels that Oprah is “trustworthy.” Bobbi is telling friends — Oprah “was loyal to my mom, and never did my mother wrong, or made her look bad. She always looked out for my mom.” As a result, we’re told Bobbi feels Oprah would show her the same respect — not bringing up issues that could potentially show Bobbi in a negative light … i.e. substance abuse. According to sources close to Bobbi, Oprah was one of the first people who reached out to her after Whitney passed. Troubled star Amber Portwood will not be present as the cast members of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 head to NYC this weekend to participate in a reunion special. Amber’s mom, Tonya, tells E! that the judge overseeing her daughter’s probation denied permission for her to leave Anderson, Ind., to participate in the event. “He thinks it will interfere with her program,” says Tonya. Probably right. But despite the setback, Amber isn’t sweating it too hard. It wasn’t long ago before it looked like her filming days were done altogether. Now that she’s living at her grandma’s , the show may go on … ankle monitor style , but still. “I’m happy. Just stressed, but I’m happy,” says Portwood. Last week, she was released from the Madison County correctional facility where she had been since December after being busted for drug possession. Portwood is staying with her grandparents as she attends eight months of rehab at Sister 2 Sister Ministries (which won’t let her film Teen Mom there). If she were to violate her strict probation in any way, Amber Portwood faces a maximum of five years in prison on her felony drug-possession charge. Her baby daddy, Gary Shirley, posted on Facebook that he and their 3-year-old daughter, Leah, are flying to New York to participate in the special.
She may no longer host her a daytime talk show, but Oprah Winfrey still has serious sway. The Associated Press confirms that she has landed the first interview with members of Whitney Houston’s family since the singer’s tragic death last month, as Oprah will sit down with loved ones that include: Whitney‘s sister-in-law/manager, Patricia Houston; her brother Gary; and her daughter Bobbi Kristina, who many fear is headed down a similar, drug-laden path as her mother. Oprah attended Whitney’s funeral in New Jersey and no official cause of death has been determined yet. Autopsy results should be in within a week or two. The interview, meanwhile, will air on OWN Sunday, March 11 at 9 p.m.
Whitney Houston’s mom Cissy Houston is making sure she gets rid of all the bad influences from her granddaughter Bobbi Kristina’s life, and the first person on the list is a 22-year-old man who Whitney treated like her very own son. Nick Gordon was taken in by Whitney as a troubled youngster when she was living in Atlanta, and though he was never formerly adopted, she considered Nick her son and he even called her “mom.” According to TMZ : Cissy believes Nick is a bad influence on her granddaughter and wants him OUT of the Houston family home in Atlanta ASAP, and has already informed her lawyers about the eviction in case he puts up a fight. Nick has allegedly been helping Bobbi deal with the loss of her mom, and we hope this latest incident doesn’t push Bobbi Kristina over the edge. Should Cissy have thrown Nick out? Whitney Houston becomes the first woman to place three albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart at the same time. As previously reported Houston had Whitney: the Greatest Hits , the soundtrack to The Bodyguard and her debut album Whitney place #2, #6 and #9 on the Billboard 200, respectively. This makes Houston the first-ever woman to place three separate albums in the top 10 at the same time. Cissy Houston “won’t be at peace until she gets closure” in the death of her daughter, a source tells TMZ. As a result, this same insider says, Whitney’s mother is planning to actually revisit the scene of her daughter’s passing: room 434 at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel. Mrs. Houston will reportedly spend time along in the room, praying, thinking and trying to establish a spiritual connection with the child that left this world far too soon. This has been an especially trying time for Cissy and Whitney’s family, not simply due to the singer’s tragic death, but also due to The National Enquirer actually publishing a photo of the star in her casket.
