N FL player Brandon Copeland is using his platform as an avenue to spread awareness about the importance of financial literacy. According to CNBC , while Copeland is in the off season he’s leading a seminar about how to manage finances at the University of Pennsylvania. NFL player who saves nearly 90% of his income teaches a money class at Penn called 'Life 101. https://t.co/12uAsa6KDv — CNBC Make It (@CNBCMakeIt) March 10, 2019 The class that Copeland is teaching —which he calls “Life 101”—explores how to navigate everyday financial situations, including planning for retirement, building credit, and making smart investments, the news outlet writes. The New York Jets linebacker has been dedicated to creating a strong foundation for himself outside of the NFL. Copeland, who graduated from the Wharton School, worked on Wall Street two years ago during the off season and co-founded a real estate company with his wife in 2018. “I don’t care if you’re an engineering student, a nursing student, if you’re going to build rockets when you grow up or if you’re going to sweep floors. You’re going to have to use something in this class,” he said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “The point of this class isn’t for me to tell you how to spend your money. It’s for you to understand what spending your money is doing for you.” Copeland—who inked a $1.2 million contact with the Jets last year—saves and invests nearly 90 percent of his salary. 60 percent of his income goes towards investments and 30 percent goes into his savings. He says he knows football won’t last forever and wants to make sure that he is financially secure when he’s no longer playing on the field. There have been several platforms created to bring attention to the significance of financial literacy. Last year 29-year-old entrepreneur Sheena Allen launched CapWay as an avenue to make banking fair and accessible for underserved communities. Through the app, Allen hopes to change perspectives surrounding spending habits. Source: skynesher / Getty Couple Breaks Measles Quarantine To Go To The Gym Most people will look for any excuse not to go to the gym, but one man’s dedication is seriously dangerous. A Wisconsin couple is facing criminal charges after one of the two violated their measles quarantine order and went to the gym, a criminal complaint said. 57-year-old Jeffery Murawski and his wife, Christine Bennett were each charged with “one misdemeanor count of communicable disease – protection of the public,” according to reports from FOX6 Now . They are both slated to appear in court on March 25. On May 1 of 2018, a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy pulled over Bennett’s car, which also contained her husband, who allegedly had the measles. It was not immediately clear if he had measles at the time he left the home or was under quarantine. “Aren’t you supposed to be home?” the deputy said. The Waukesha County Health Department ordered Murawski to be confined to his home until he was “deemed non-contagious.” But instead, he decided to leave his home “to go inside Gold’s Gym to work out,” according to prosecutors. Murawski said he left after only a few minutes of working out “because he felt very guilty.” Deputies were outside the man’s home during the quarantine order just in case he left, but he ended up hiding in his wife’s vehile to escape, prosecutors said. Murawski apologized, saying, “he needed to get out of the house because he was going crazy.”

Source: Feifei Cui-Paoluzzo / Getty Church Posts Sign About “Immigration Laws” In Heaven And Hell A church in Arkansas is facing a ton of criticism after posting a sign that reads, “Heaven Has Strict Immigration Laws, Hell Has Open Borders.” According to reports from FOX 35 , the community is not happy with Springdale Apostolic Church and their hateful message, especially since the area has a large Hispanic population. But according to the people in charge at the church, they say the message is biblical, not political. Assistant Pastor Michael Pennington says that his wife is the one who came up with the concept. “My wife actually came up with it before anyone else,” said Pennington. “The reason we put that sign up was to tell everybody it is not easy to make heaven. If you read scriptures, it tells them the road to hell is wide and broad, but the road to heaven is narrow and straight.” He also added that several church members praised him for the idea and supposedly did not see the message as political at all. “Every nationality of people saying we know this is a biblical meaning, we know what the meaning was behind us, we read the Bible, we know what you’re getting at.” Even though the church insists their message was solely biblical and had nothing to do with actual immigration laws, an apology was issued and Pennington said in a statement on Monday that anyone is welcomed to their church. A #church in #Arkansas incurred backlash after putting up a sign they insist was meant to be biblical, and not in any way political. “Heaven has strict immigration laws,” the sign read. “Hell has open borders.” https://t.co/yli71fI7DI pic.twitter.com/6wUEQu52At — FOX 7 Austin (@fox7austin) March 2, 2019
Mackenzie Standifer sure is something else, isn't she? She's only been on Teen Mom OG for a few seasons now, but she's definitely one of the most talked-about cast members. And yeah, that's because her life is a complete and utter disaster, but facts are facts, and the fact is that Mackenzie gets a whole lot of attention. Right now, she has to be going through a hard time, what with Ryan being in jail again. But she recently spilled her guts on Instagram Live video, and honestly, things sound worse than we ever imagined … 1. Goodness Gracious Can you imagine what it must be like to be Mackenzie Standifer? Like, can you even really imagine it? 2. One Crazy Ride She just turned 22, and while most people her age are bar-hopping or fresh out of college or, you know, still pretty much kids, she just had her second child with her second husband, who also happens to be a heroin addict reality star. 3. No Thanks Think of the person you were at 22, then imagine that person in Mackenzie’s situation. It’s just too much, right? 4. Nope Nope Nope She got pregnant when she was in high school, married the baby’s father at 17, got divorced a couple of years later, then met Ryan and got engaged to him after just months of dating. 5. Too Fast They got married a few months later, and then he went straight to rehab, because oops, it turned out he’d been on heroin. He left rehab early, and he and Mackenzie went right back to pretending that everything was totally fine. 6. Spoiler: It was not fine. View Slideshow
Tragic news today out of the music and television world: Janice Freeman, a beloved contestant on The Voice in 2017, died on Saturday evening of complications related to a blood clot. She was 33 years old. According to TMZ, who spoke to the singer’s family, Freeman was at home in West Covina with her husband, Dion, when she began to have trouble beathing. Dion reportedly called 911 and had to perform CPR on his wife until paramedics arrived. Janice was then pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m. at a local hospital. “We are heartbroken to report that Janice Marie Freeman passed away on March 2, 2019 from an extreme case of pneumonia,” Freeman’s rep told E! News and other outlets. Continues this statement: “She was a survivor and fighter, and a beautiful force in this world. Janice gained notoriety through her success on NBC’s The Voice as a member of Miley Cyrus’s team. “Her story inspired fans nationwide, having successfully battled cervical cancer and living her life to the fullest while fighting lupus.” Freeman also overcame cervical cancer and meningitis, but this blood clot allegedly traveled to her lungs and there was nothing that could be done to save her. The artist advanced all the way to the final 11 on Season 13 of The Voice. She was a member of Team Miley Cyrus and stayed in close touch with the superstar, actually sharing an emotional thank you video dedicated to Cyrus after the celebrity assisted Freeman and her loved ones when they were searching for a place to live last year. “Thank you ALL but she found us placement until we found permanent housing, gave me the deposit, covered me for 6 months so I can get on my feet!” Freeman tweeted at the time, adding: “@MileyCyrus you are one of my closest friends and what you did for me and my family Im praying GOD gives you the desire of your heart!” Wrote Miley as a caption to the photo below, upon learning of Freeman’s death: Thank you @janicefreeman.. for everything. This represents you perfectly.” She’s referring, as you can see here, to the picture of a rainbow. Concludes the statement from Freeman’s rep: “Her friends and family greatly appreciate your prayers, call, and texts during this time, and ask that they be given space to remember everything that Janice was to them as they process and mourn her loss. “She is survived by her husband Dion, daughter Hannah, her mother Janice, brothers and sisters , and many extended family.” In response to this awful piece of news, Jennifer Hudson also commented on Instagram. “@janicefreeman the voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all!” the Oscar winner wrote. “My heart and prayers go out to @janicefreeman daughter and family ! @mileycyrus @nbcthevoice #ripjanicefreeman” Just a few weeks ago, meanwhile, Freeman shared her own heartfelt message on Instagram. This is what she wrote: “I want to give ALL praises to THE FATHER for this healing process! It has been a difficult, trying, discouraging, mentally draining, etc last 3 months I have had to deal with in a very long time! “But God is FAITHFUL and HE is healing my body and I’m starting to see a little clearly again!… I’m so grateful and overwhelmed because HE loves me so in spite of me deserving it or not.” This is so awful. May Janice Freeman rest in peace. We’ll update this story if we learn any new information about what transpired. And we send our condolences to Freeman’s friends and loved ones. Source: Client / CLIENT This is pretty major. Tyrese has signed on to play Teddy Pendergrass in an upcoming biopic for Warner Bros. The film company has acquired the life rights to the late singer who passed away from cancer in 2010. “I am honored to take this journey… this is the role that I feel I was born to play,” Gibson said. “Teddy Pendergrass embraced me and before he passed put the responsibility on my shoulders to tell his story. Being here in this time and in this space and moment with Lee Daniels, Donald De Line, Little Marvin and Warner Bros. is an answered prayer. Teddy, I just hope we make you, your wife and family proud… Here we go!!” Pendergrass made headway back in the early 1970s as the lead singer of Harold Mevlin & The Blue Notes, becoming a massive success as a solo artist with five consecutive platinum albums and classic songs such as “Turn Off The Lights” and “My Latest Greatest Inspiration”. He suffered a spinal cord injury in a 1982 car accident that left him paralyzed but he learned how to sign again and returned to performing in 1985, continuing his solo career until he retired in 2007. Gibson will produce along with Lee Daniels . Pendergrass’ widow, Joan, will serve as an executive producer. Gibson has spent time between acting and singing since he broke through in the late ’90s with his hit “Sweet Lady,”. He’s been nominated for 6 Grammy awards and has been a fixture in the Fast & Furious movie series, starring in six movies.
