‘Early Show’ Panelists on Marriage: ‘Who Wants to Sign up for That?’

Apparently unmarried men don’t have to bother ‘putting a ring on it’ anymore. A CBS’ “Early Show” panel on June 23 made marriage look like an obsolete tradition by  highlighting several couples who’ve cohabited for years-with little or no intentions of ever saying “I do.” CBS co-host Erica Hill cited statistics showing a record-high 6.4 million couples currently cohabitate in the United States. “This is a cautious generation,” Seligson explained to Hill. “They want to get it right, and they want to make sure that this is the person with whom they can spend the next 60 or 70 years.” “Early Show” guest panelists Dr. Robi Ludwig of Care.com and Brian Balthazar of Popgoestheweek.com supported this shift in cultural attitude. Balthazar pointed out that to many individuals, particularly those whose families have experienced divorce, marriage has a less-than-sparkly image. “They say, why do I want to put myself through that?” Balthazar explained. “If I love my partner, why do I feed a piece of paper and spend a lot of money?” He credited the trend to an “instant update society. I don’t know what I’m having for dinner tomorrow let alone a week. People stayed at the same job for 20 years. Now that never happens. People are thinking, marriage forever? The vows are honor and obey? Who wants to sign up for that?” Ludwig said cohabitation provides a way to experiment with marriage without the burden of commitment. “Living together really always gives the person the option to get out,” she said. “And also it’s like a trial for marriage. So you’re trying out to be a husband, you’re trying out to be a wife. Most of the time it’s a wife trying out, like, ‘Do you want me to be your wife?’ Balthazar called cohabitation “a great test run.” He cited comedian Groucho Marx, who is credited with saying, “Marriage is a good institution. But who want to live in an institution?” Despite the guest panelists’ efforts to characterize marriage as antiquated, Hill never mentioned the ways that marriage benefits both the couple and their children. Hill also never mentioned the numerous studies compiled by groups like The Heritage Foundation and Focus on the Family and  that indicate the damaging results that cohabitation has on marriage (for couples who eventually plan on getting married), or the effect that this non-committal take on relationships can have on children reared in homes lacking the structure of marriage. This isn’t the first time “The Early Show” has promoted cohabitation without mentioning the downsides. On March 9, host Harry Smith neglected to ask author Hannah Seligson about the consequences of cohabitation in a discussion of her book, “A Little Bit Married.”

Bruce Willis Shares His Wife’s Nipples of the Day

I always had a feeling Bruce Willis was the kind of guy who would get off watching his wife get fucked by black dudes. You know the little weirdo in the corner of the room jerking off while directing his wife how to take the black cock down her throat, so it’s only natural that he’d make sure she wears see through dresses when her much younger tits made this public appearance, cuz the idea of a guy getting off to his pussy, makes him cum hard and here are the pics…even if getting hard to these pics make you fucking weird, cuz to see her nipple you gotta do some “Magic Eye” shit… Her name is Emma Heming and she’s a serious upgrade from Demi…which isn’t saying much…but it is saying something…and that something is that if you are a big movie star you’ll still get better pussy than the average man even 20 years after your last successful role….and even when they are midgets. World Cup 2010: David Platt relives Italia 90 volley against Belgium

Flashback to 26 June 1990: Bologna, Italy: with penalties looming David Platt volleys England to a stunning second-round victory over Belgium David Platt, England midfielder “I started as a substitute. I can remember little snatches of the game. John Barnes having a volleyed goal harshly disallowed, Belgium hitting the woodwork twice, I can still see Enzo Scifo hitting the post with a tremendous strike from 25 yards. I was at the other end of the bench from Bobby Robson and didn’t have much contact with him. Having since been a manager I now know that the emotions he must have been going through were far more intense than mine. I came on for Steve McMahon [in the 71st minute].” John Motson, commentating on BBC1 in extra-time after 119 goalless minutes: “Gerets challenges Gascoigne. Free-kick given to England …” Platt: “It was the last minute. There was a free-kick in the centre.” Motson: “… Gascoigne shaping to take it …” Platt: “Gazza was on it. I was in the box trying to get a yard or half of space.” Motson: “… and chipped in …” Platt: “I was spinning, the ball dropped over my shoulder and I just tried to get something on it.” Motson: “… and volleyed in …” Platt: “There wasn’t a great deal of power. It was all technique.” Motson: “… and it’s there! …” Platt: “I saw it going in and fell to my knees.” Motson: “… by David Platt! …” Platt: “Everything was intuitive, the way I met and hit the ball and then dropping to my knees. Instinct just took over. I’d never ever dropped to my knees after scoring before, I don’t know why I did.” Motson: “… England have done it! In the last minute of extra-time!” Platt: “But when you score a goal like that you just go outside yourself for a bit, everything is surreal. The adrenaline surge is so great it’s as if I really was in a different place, a different world.” Motson: “… That’s the biggest smile in world football tonight – David Platt of Aston Villa.” Platt: “Don’t get me wrong, the goal wasn’t a fluke. I had an eye for getting on the end of that sort of ball and the technical ability to finish those chances off. I worked hard on practising overhead kicks and volleys in training at Aston Villa but, even so, if I had re-enacted that chance against Belgium 10 times in training the next day there’s a very good chance I wouldn’t have scored once from it. It was just one of life’s rare, perfect moments.” Motson: “He turned, volleyed and what a good finish.” Platt: “The one place where things didn’t go right was almost as soon as I left the pitch. One minute I was euphoric and the next I was being hauled off for a random drug test. It was hot and you’re so dehydrated after playing that it took 40 minutes – which passed very, very slowly – for me to produce a sample. I was in a room with a couple of Belgians who were seriously unhappy because they’d just been knocked out. I didn’t know what to say. By the time I came out the other players all had their suits on and the euphoria had passed.” Motson: “One of the most dramatic goals in the World Cup – and probably one of the best. England through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.” Platt: “After finally getting back to the hotel and having something to eat I decided it was too late to phone my then girlfriend, now my wife, Rachel. For some reason I thought she’d be in bed and annoyed if I woke her up. In reality everyone was having a party and expecting a call from me. Nowadays my mobile phone would have been going mad with texts and voice messages but in 1990 the England squad were isolated from everything. “If I hadn’t scored that goal, I might still have ended up playing in Italy [Platt went on to play for Bari, Juventus and Sampdoria] but, realistically, I’m sure it was the catalyst. Italian clubs were looking for international names and, before that goal, I was only really known as a club player with Aston Villa. We’ve got a home in Sardinia now. The goal was a big catalyst.” World Cup 2010 Louise Taylor guardian.co.uk

Lucas Glover tries to recapture – and remember – US Open-winning form

One of 2009’s quartet of unexpected major winners is looking to claim the trophy again, now his wife has helpfully sent it back Ask the person sitting at the next desk who won last year’s US Open and it’s a fair bet they won’t remember. Not without resorting to Google, at least. Even Lucas Glover seemed to be having trouble remembering he had won it leading up to the defence of his title at Pebble Beach today, admitting earlier this week that he had forgotten to return the trophy, leaving the PGA to politely ring his wife and ask her to send it back. Glover’s victory amid the mud of Bethpage, only his second ever on the tour and coming four years after his first, was the stuff of fairytales. Ranked 71 in the world at the time, the then 29-year-old had even double-bogeyed his first hole of the tournament. But “I didn’t slam a club,” he said at the time, “didn’t do anything. Walked over to the second tee and said: ‘Hey, it’s the US Open. It’s going to be a long week.'” So it proved. As the rain on Long Island, New York, continued and the tournament dragged on into day five, the weather was generating more publicity than Glover. He and the rookie Ricky Barnes were five shots clear going into the final round, but it was first Barnes who caught the eye as his game imploded; then came the charge of the world No2, Phil Mickelson. When Glover hung on at four under par to win by two shots from Barnes, Mickelson and David Duval, no one had really expected him to be there. One year on, at Pebble Beach in California this week, when Mickelson left the press room to be replaced by Glover, 83 out of 100 journalists followed Lefty out of the door. In fairness, 2009 was a somewhat under-the-radar year for major winners, with longshot champions also coming at the Masters (Angel Cabrera), the Open (Stewart Cink) and the US PGA (YE Yang). And Glover certainly does not seem to mind the lack of attention. “It’s been a little busy, but it’s been fun” Glover said when asked what winning a major had meant. “It’s hard to believe it’s been a year. Phone rang a little bit more. I signed a few more autographs, but nothing too crazy. And that’s probably the way I would want it.” After winning at Bethpage he missed the cut in the next major, the Open at Turnberry, but was an impressive fifth at the US PGA, then tied for 36th at this year’s Masters. Glover even won the off-season PGA Grand Slam of Golf, beating Cabrera, Cink and Yang in Bermuda. But in the run-up to the defence of his title he has managed only two top-10 finishes on tour and will be desperate to avoid entering the hall of infamy, alongside Mark Brooks and Steve Jones. Brooks and Jones won the PGA Championship and US Open, respectively, in 1996, but neither have won anything on tour since. There is, however, a caveat when writing off Glover. One of his top-10 finishes came when he finished third in last month’s Players Championship, two shots behind the winner, Tim Clark, but two ahead of England’s Lee Westwood and seven ahead of Mickelson. After hitting at Pebble Beach this week, Glover felt back to where he was a year ago. Perhaps the forgotten man is recalling his best form just in time to pen a sequel. US Open Golf guardian.co.uk

Michael Jackson’s Mom Katherine Responds To Joe Jackson Accusations

‘The world knows Mrs. Jackson has always been a loving and caring mother,’ her lawyer says in a statement. By James Montgomery Katherine Jackson Photo: Aaron Lambert/ Getty Images As the one-year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death approaches, the war of words between his parents continues to get messy. On Sunday, in a video posted on the website of Britain’s News of the World newspaper, Jackson’s father, Joe, tells a reporter he blames his wife (and Michael’s mother), Katherine, for their son’s death, because she didn’t come to Michael’s aid when he needed her the most. “Mothers [are] always the one the son looks up to. I wanted her to step in and go in and say, ‘Look, Michael,’ a bit … keep him cheered up, because, you know, if your mother’s around you, the son, I would think, would feel better,” Jackson said. “But she didn’t want to do that, because she was afraid that she was invading his privacy … and we argued about that several times. “[I said] ‘Katherine, if you don’t go see him, he won’t be with us too long,’ ” Jackson continued. “I thought he was looking kind of funny and frail a little bit. I told her, ‘This would have not have happened if you had been with him awhile because he would have been more relaxed. By you being with him, things would’ve went much better than what they did. We gone lost our son now.’ ” On Monday (June 14), a spokesperson for Katherine Jackson responded to those allegations, calling them — and Joe Jackson’s actions — “outrageous.” “Joe Jackson’s statements and conduct toward Mrs. Jackson are outrageous,” Katherine’s attorney, Adam Streisand, said in a statement to “Access Hollywood.” “The world knows Mrs. Jackson has always been a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and she had a very special relationship with Michael. The world also knows who Joe Jackson is and he seems bent on never letting us forget.” Michael Jackson died on June 25 after suffering cardiac arrest at his Hollywood mansion. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled that the 50-year-old singer died of “acute propofol intoxication,” in combination with the use of sedatives. Authorities have since claimed that his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, administered a lethal dose of the anesthetic to Jackson in and attempt to help him sleep. Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter in February and has since pleaded not guilty in the case . Do you think Joe Jackson’s allegations were out of line? Let us know in the comments. Joe Jackson to Katherine Jackson: Michael’s Death is All YOUR Fault!

In the latest of his increasingly outrageous statements about the late Michael Jackson, the singer’s father, Joe is again pointing fingers regarding his death. Only this time, he’s not just accusing Dr. Conrad Murray of murder – he’s blaming the inaction of his wife, Katherine Jackson, for Michael Jackson’s demise. It’s as shocking a statement as it is terrible. Joe tells the UK’s News of the World personally that he noticed Michael was “looking kinda funny and and frail” and asked Katherine to check up on him . She refused, Joe claims, because she didn’t want to invade his privacy. They argued about this before Michael’s June 25, 2009 death, but she was firm. After Michael died, he said to Katherine, “I said this would have never happened if you had went and been with him.” What a despicable human being . For reasons unknown, Joe Jackson has turned on Katherine . Intentionally cut out of MJ’s will, Joe is fighting to get an allowance from the estate, even as Katherine has been giving her estranged spouse money. We’ll see if that continues thanks to the latest installment in his “rich history of reckless, untrue comments,” as her lawyer, Adam Streisand, puts it. “The world knows that Mrs. Jackson has always been a loving mother and grandmother, and that she and Michael had a very special relationship.”
