‘I was blown away,’ actor tells MTV News of seeing footage for the first time. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Amy Wilkinson Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald in “Footloose” Photo: Paramount Pictures “Footloose” star Kenny Wormald sidled up to his computer, hit play on the trailer for his remake of the classic 1984 flick and quickly realized he’d made a big blunder. “I watched it alone in my house, and that was a mistake, because I thought I was going to scream!” the dancer-turned-actor told MTV News. “I was blown away.” By now, though the 26-year-old has had time to settle down, he’s no less pumped about the film, which hits theaters on October 14 and which he calls “all new, but it also pays homage to the original.” To celebrate our debut of the trailer, Wormald gave us a call and revealed some secrets behind the new footage. Backflips and Angry Dances The most iconic scene in the original flick features a young Kevin Bacon going wild in a warehouse, dancing and flipping like he’s trying to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics. The new movie, as the trailer hints, re-creates that scene. Wormald himself busted out the great majority of those moves but had to make way for the experts from time to time. “We called it the angry dance,” he explained. “There’s some crazy stuff going on in that scene — some gymnastic stuff that is a little bit from the original and they wouldn’t let me do some of it. It’s just when it comes to the death-defying stunts — flips and stuff — that’s not me. They were like, ‘I don’t think so. Sit down, Kenny!’ ” Wormald again had to step away from the cameras when it came to a perilous backflip seen early in the trailer. “All of the dancing is me,” he said. “But that flip isn’t me — but don’t tell anyone!” The Exploding Bus Late in the trailer, we get a glimpse of Wormald racing a bus, followed quickly by a gnarly explosion. Turns out, that scene is an action-movie tweak to the original’s tractor chicken race. “They made it really climactic,” Wormald said of the original scene. “But if you think about it, tractors only go five miles per hour. So I think [director] Craig Brewer wanted a more badass version of the chicken race.” The Boston Accent Bacon’s character hails from Chicago — a northern boy who moves into a southern town and brings an urge to boogie with him. But from the minute Wormald opens his mouth in the new trailer, we can tell he’s not from Chicago. Instead, he speaks with a thick accent, one not originally part of the script but which the Boston-born actor introduced to the project. “They went into casting thinking it would be the same [as the original]. But when I went in there, I wanted to be different than the other guys. I knew it was a kid from up north going down south, so I made a decision to use my Boston accent in the audition,” Wormald told us. “As I kept getting closer and closer to booking it, they never said don’t use the accent. And then I booked it and they said, ‘We’re going to change it from Chicago to Boston.’ They dug it.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Playboy bunny says this week’s routine is ‘more Kendra.’ By Kara Warner Kendra Wilkinson Photo: James Lacsina LOS ANGELES — After last week’s traditional yet slightly uneventful classical performances on “Dancing With the Stars,” fans and castmembers alike are excited about what possibilities are ahead with Monday night’s (April 18) far more open-ended American Week. MTV News was lucky enough to be invited to the official “DWTS” rehearsals studio Friday to get a sneak peek of Kendra Wilkinson and Louis Van Amstel’s routine. Despite having the lowest ranks from the judges last week — they scored 18 out of 30 points for their waltz — Wilkinson and Van Amstel made it through to another round of competition and are eager to start fresh with a brand-new, energetic routine. “It’s week five, we have foxtrot, and it’s American Week,” Van Amstel told us. “American Week,” Wilkinson echoed. ” My week.” Cut to Wilkinson strapping herself into her dancing shoes and Van Amstel giving her a few quick stage directions before they got down to business rehearsing their foxtrot. “There’s no way I can’t have fun with this dance on Monday night,” Wilkinson said. “The song is amazing, everybody knows it,” she promised. “Dancing to it you just get so happy. I’m excited about it.” Wilkinson went on to say that with this dance, she’s able to put a lot more of herself into it, versus several of her prior routines. “With ballroom dancing, you think very classy, sophisticated, the whole Cinderella [image], whatever, but this week is going to be fun,” she said. “More Kendra, for sure.” Are you rooting for Kendra on “Dancing With the Stars”? Let us know in the comments!

‘I think we were a little bit shocked,’ the Hob’s Amanda Belcher tells MTV News. By Amy Wilkinson Josh Hutcherson Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images Casting for the most anticipated love triangle since Edward, Bella and Jacob is now complete. On Monday, Lionsgate announced that Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth would star as Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne alongside Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen in the big-screen adaptation of “The Hunger Games.” The news came on the heels of rumors that the two were front-runners among the pack of Hollywood’s young men auditioning for the coveted roles. Yet, despite a bit of early warning, “Hunger Games” fans and experts alike were largely surprised by the casting news. “I think we were a little bit shocked, especially when the rumors first broke last week that Josh and Liam were the front-runners,” said Amanda Belcher of the Hob . “We hadn’t really expected that out of all the people that were listed on the short list of people for both Peeta and Gale.” Fan reactions have ranged from pleased (@The SiennaSkye: “Josh Hutcherson was cast as Peeta Mellark!? YES! They picked a cutie!! (:”) to outraged (@meggiedear: “Worst. Casting. News. Ever. [Especially 4 Gale]. R.I.P. Hunger Games movie”). Yet, Belcher said many initially wary fans have changed their tune since the news first sent the Internet ablaze. “Surprisingly, I feel like when the official news got posted, they’ve come around a little bit,” she said. “There’s still quite a few who say, ‘I’m not going to watch this movie. I’m so upset at this casting.’ Then there’s a lot of them that say, ‘You know what? These aren’t our first choices, and we don’t really like them, but we’re going to put our trust in Lionsgate.’ ” One of the chief concerns among fans seems to be that Hutcherson and Hemsworth don’t closely resemble the characters from the book — an issue that was also raised following Lawrence’s casting. “I have a hard time picturing Josh and Liam as Peeta and Gale, but I want to give them the benefit of the doubt,” said “Hunger Games” Examiner Sara Gundell. Mockingjay.net administrator Kimmy West said most fans stuck on the actors’ looks will most likely get onboard once they see the stars’ chemistry and performances for themselves. “[The actors] have to prove to the fans that they’re the good person for the role. Because the moment that people realize that these actors are perfect in the role, hopefully then all the fans will warm up to them and agree that they are good.” What do you think of the Josh Hutcherson/ Liam Hemsworth casting news?
