I’ve been disappointed in the past with these chicks going on the show and not losing any weight at all, but I think that Kendra can do it, as long as she makes it past the first week or two. ‘She’s very sweet,’ Criss said of ‘Teenage Dream’ songstress By Amy Wilkinson, additional reporting by James Montgomery Darren Criss Photo: MTV News Ever since “Glee” guest star Darren Criss warbled Katy Perry’s track “Teenage Dream” on the series’ Nov. 9 episode “Never Been Kissed,” he and Perry have been directing enthusiastic accolades at one another through the press. The pair finally had the first in-person meeting of their “mutual admiration society” at Sunday’s American Music Awards, and Criss left singing Perry’s praises once again. “[I met Perry] very, very quickly,” Criss told MTV News while walking the red carpet at Rolling Stone ‘s post-AMA party. “It was cool. She’s very sweet.” Following Criss’ debut on the Fox musical series earlier this month, Perry shared her compliments via Twitter, writing, “Oh…My…Gosh… this just brought a sweet tear to my eye! Teenage Dream on GLEE makes my heart go WEEEEE!” She later told “Access Hollywood” , “He’s amazing! I love when any of my songs are remixed or interpreted differently. I just love that. I really welcome a creative mind to anything.” Criss was flattered by Perry’s praise, telling MTV News last week the feelings were indeed mutual. “Katy makes my heart ‘go weeeee,’ ” he said. Criss has been quick to credit Perry and the track’s other writers and producers — Dr. Luke, Ben Levin, Bonnie McKee and Max Martin — with the single’s success (it reached #1 on the digital downloads chart last week, a first for a “Glee” single). “I’m forever in [Katy’s] debt, basically,” Criss said. “She’s been very supportive about the whole thing. Katy Perry loves rendition, the first ‘Glee’ single to top digital sales chart. By Amy Wilkinson Don’t pinch yourself, because this isn’t a dream: With 214,000 tracks sold, “Glee” guest star Darren Criss has scored a #1 hit with his rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” which debuted at the top of the digital sales chart this week — the first “Glee” single to do so, according to a joint statement from Fox and Columbia Records. The tune debuted during “Glee’s” November 9 episode, “Never Been Kissed,” in which Criss made his first appearance as an openly gay teen from rival glee club the Dalton Academy Warblers. Criss is accompanied on the track by the Tufts University Beelzebubs, who also did the arrangement. Criss is humble about the track’s success, giving credit to great collaborators and good timing. “There’s a couple of things that stack up in my favor, preceding any shenanigans I may or may not be adding to it,” Criss told MTV News. “First of all, it’s a great song … between Dr. Luke, Ben Levin, Bonnie McKee, Max Martin, Katy Perry — those are all pretty strong pop writers. A lot of props go to the Beelzebubs from Tufts University, who arranged the killer arrangement. And the song was attached to a new character that a lot of people had a lot of speculation about. I’m just the lucky guy that got to be sprinkled on top.” Perry, however, couldn’t sing Criss’ praise more loudly, telling Access Hollywood , “He’s amazing! I love when any of my songs are remixed or interpreted differently. I just I love that. I really welcome a creative mind to anything.” The singer had previously tweeted, “Oh…My…Gosh… this just brought a sweet tear to my eye! By Amy Wilkinson Darren Criss Photo: MTV News Darren Criss has been hitting all the right notes with “Glee” fans. A week after his November 9 debut on the Fox musical series, Criss’ rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” is a top-selling song on iTunes and the first “Glee” single to become a Billboard #1 single. Not surprisingly, the Internet’s been buzzing with rumors that Criss is being bumped from a recurring role to a series regular on “Glee.” But if that’s the case, it’s news to the actor. “The weird thing about that is, I hear it from all these different blogs and interviews. … It’s never really been officially confirmed to me,” Criss told MTV News. “I think the option is there and that they want to keep Blaine around.” Promotion speculation began swirling a day after Criss’ “Glee” debut as an openly gay glee club member from rival Dalton Academy (and potential love interest for Chris Colfer’s character Kurt). Deadline broke the news that Criss was in talks to become a series regular — a status that would take effect during the show’s already green-lit third season. Creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy seemed to confirm as much in an interview with AfterElton . “Darren has become such a sensation in one week, which I love,” Murphy told the website. “I think there’s a hunger for him and a positive relationship role model. He’ll definitely continue through the year and longer. We just signed a deal with him, so I don’t know.” Criss, who originally auditioned for the role of footballer heartthrob Finn Hudson (played by Cory Monteith), said that regardless of a potential promotion, he feels blessed to be a part of the hit series. “As of now, I’m just a guest star. By Amy Wilkinson Lady Gaga on stage at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Tongues are still wagging over Lady Gaga’s BBQ-defying meat dress from Sunday’s Video Music Awards , and it seems everyone has an opinion on the flesh frock. So who better to weigh in on Lady Gaga’s look than the honorees at US Weekly ‘s 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers event in New York City? While many stars lauded the “Bad Romance” singer for her sartorial bravery, most added that they’d never actually don such a rare outfit. “I thought: courageous,” host Mary J. Blige said with a laugh when asked her opinion of Lady Gaga’s meat dress. “She’s a courageous chick.” Actress and frequent “Glee” guest star Kristin Chenoweth couldn’t have agreed more. “I thought it was incredible,” she said. “Actually it was an incredible design. I wouldn’t be caught dead in it, but go girl!” One lucky celeb got to see — and smell — Franc Fernandez’s design up close and personal. “I was sitting right behind her [at the VMAs],” record producer Sean Garrett said. “That’s probably the best-smelling meat [I’ve ever smelled].” One person not coveting Garrett’s prime seat was talk-show host Wendy Williams. “I wouldn’t have been the one wanting to sit next to her,” she said. “With the hot lights and the hot skin, she was actually sizzling right there, and I understand she has a line of perfume coming out, and that would smell like A1 Sauce.” Though most celebrities found Gaga’s get-up humorous, “The City” star and People’s Revolution owner Kelly Cutrone was introspective, saying she found the frock frivolous in light of global hunger issues. “I personally think it’s not a good idea when people are starving in the world,” she said about food as fashion. “One person’s dress is another person’s dinner.” What do you think about Lady Gaga’s meat dress? It appears the giggly star of the E! reality series “Kendra,” which delves into her life as a party-girl-turned-homemaker and mom, got an early start mixing her love life with sports. “Soccer was my love. I had a huge crush on my soccer coach. He was like the hottest thing to ever exist,” Wilkinson says on the latest episode of “When I Was 17,” premiering Saturday at 11 a.m. Wilkinson admits she went to extra lengths to get the attention of her extra-hot coach, including altering her uniform to show off her gams. “I would totally flirt with him. I would wear shorter shorts than the other girls on purpose.” Wilkinson’s brazenness didn’t end with hiked-up shorts.
