‘The Hills’ Recap: Kristin Tells Brody How She Feels

‘Now is kind of too late,’ Brody responds when she says she’d give a relationship a try. By Amy Wilkinson Kristin Cavallari Photo: MTV After Kristin’s attempt to make Brody jealous by shamelessly flirting with bartender Will went nowhere in Costa Rica, she decided to take a more novel approach this week by telling Brody how she truly feels. But Brody didn’t exactly return the sentiment on Tuesday night’s episode of Stephanie met up with Lo and Holly to catch them up on all the Costa Rica gossip, including the Brody/Kristin drama. “I think she acts like it’s a game, but it really means more to her,” Lo observed. “Because he knows she’s really in love with him.” Talk then turned to the impending arrival of Holly’s mom, Darlene. “I don’t know what I’m going to do if she wants to see Heidi,” Holly said. “But does she know none of us talk to them?” Stephanie asked. “I haven’t told her yet because I didn’t want to make things worse,” Holly replied. But after picking her mom up at LAX, Holly wasted no time telling her what was going on (or not going on) with Heidi. “I tried to call Heidi, but I don’t know how to get a hold of her anymore,” she told Darlene. “I would love to see her while I’m here,” Darlene replied. Holly told Darlene that they’ve written Heidi and Spencer off, but Darlene said she doesn’t believe Holly can completely rid her life of Heidi. Holly is, after all, Heidi’s protector. Later that night, the gang convened at the Colony, where Brody ignored Kristin. Though to be fair, it didn’t look as if Kristin was making much of an attempt to talk to Brody either. Stephanie caught the eye of Brody’s motorcycle-racing friend Josh, who began chatting her up. Brody made it plain to Josh that Stephanie was a bit of a handful. “She’s got some issues,” he told him, but that didn’t stop Josh from walking Stephanie back to her car and asking for her number. The pair met later for a date at Angels & Kings, where Stephanie nervously ordered a soda, as did her date. He divulged that he’d heard about Stephanie’s problems, including her estranged brother and the DUI, and said that he didn’t drink too often because of his racing, which Stephanie found quite reassuring and charming. The next day, Stacie and Kristin met to talk about Brody’s cool reception toward Kristin, and Kristin divulged that Brody had called to say he wanted to talk. “This is the perfect opportunity to get it all out there,” Stacie advised. “But Stace, what else is there to say?” Kristin replied. “But that’s the thing,” Stacie countered. “You really haven’t said it. You haven’t made it clear at all. If you don’t talk about it … you’re going to regret it.” One couple that was on the right track was Lo and her BF Scott, who went out to dinner to celebrate their one-year anniversary. Scott asked when Lo’s lease was up, because he wants to move in with her. But Lo was hesitant to agree to anything for sure because she doesn’t want to move in with a guy unless she’s engaged. Meanwhile, Brody and Kristin met for their chat. “I’m glad that you came over and that you want to talk,” Kristin started. “I feel like things are weird between us now.” “I think things are different,” Brody said cautiously. “What do you want?” Visibly flustered, Kristin let it all out. “I guess I kind of want to give things a shot with you,” she said. “I want a boyfriend. I’d be willing to really try.” “Well, now is kind of too late,” Brody responded. “Part of the reason I’ve been so distant is because I’ve been hanging out with somebody else. And I kind of want to see where it could go. And I think we’ve already been down that road and it didn’t work out. I’m sorry it had to be like this.” It may have also been too late for Darlene to reach Heidi. When Darlene and Holly met for lunch, Holly had tracked down Heidi’s number but couldn’t get a response. The distance from her daughter left Darlene shaken. “I just feel like she can’t live in two worlds, and she feels like she has to choose between us and Spencer,” Darlene said. “I haven’t slept for months. I had to get a prescription for sleeping pills. I’ve been mourning the loss of a child.” Kristin was also in a state of mourning as she met with Lo to discuss her talk with Brody. “You can’t let Brody Jenner make you feel like an idiot, ” Lo advised. “He’s the guy that yells in bars. C’mon.” “I completely put myself out there and he doesn’t want me,” Kristin said. “The guy I love doesn’t want me. It’s done.” Related Videos The Hills (Season 6) | Ep. 11 | ‘Loves Me Not’ The Hills: Live After Show (Season 6) | Ep. 11 Related Photos The Hills (Season 6) | Ep. 11 | ‘Loves Me Not’

Government cuts hit 2012 Olympic legacy as free swimming is axed

• Under-16s and over-60s no longer get free time in the pool • ‘This has become a luxury we can no longer afford’ Free swimming for children and pensioners is to be scrapped as part of cost-saving measures. The scheme for the under-16s and over-60s was launched by the Labour government two years ago amid much fanfare as a London 2012 Olympic legacy initiative. But the Sports and Olympics minister, Hugh Robertson, said that the scheme was “a luxury” that could no longer be afforded and has been axed as part of £73m savings made by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. “This is not a decision that gives me any pleasure,” Robertson said. “However, the research shows that the great majority of free swimmers were swimming already, and would have paid to swim anyway. With a crippling deficit to tackle and tough decisions to take, this has become a luxury we can no longer afford.” Labour launched the scheme in 2008 as part of a bid to get more people involved in sport by 2012 and claimed their aim was to get England’s swimming pools free to use by the time of the London 2012 Games. Robertson said new research showed the scheme has not delivered value for money nor significantly increased physical activity. He added: “Delivering a legacy from 2012 is one of my top priorities. I want people of all ages and abilities to have opportunities to take part in all kinds of sport, and under our plans to reform the Lottery shares we should see an extra £50m a year going on sports facilities by 2012. “Our plans to deliver a community sports legacy, in partnership with Sport England, are progressing well and we expect to make a full announcement in July.” Other non-sport DCMS projects being cancelled include the planned Stonehenge Visitor Centre and the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Centre. England leave out Jonny Wilkinson for second Test in Australia

• Toby Flood and Shontayne Hape preferred • Wilkinson on the bench at stadium where he won World Cup It is so long since England won the 2003 World Cup at Stadium Australia that Jonny Wilkinson says he has forgotten at which end he kicked his life-changing drop-goal. If that sounds bizarre to an Australian audience, his exclusion from Saturday’s England starting XV at the same location has similarly baffled the locals. There was an obvious horses-for-courses case for fielding Wilkinson at either 10 or 12 but it has been pointedly ignored in favour of a line-up featuring only two changes from the team unable to capitalise on their scrum superiority in Perth. This is a game England dare not lose tamely and the temptation to include Wilkinson for his goal-kicking alone must have been significant. Robbie Deans, the Wallabies coach, was convinced England would play the Wilko card. Instead Martin Johnson has opted to retain Shontayne Hape at inside-centre and Toby Flood at fly-half, a decision which indicates Wilkinson is no longer seen as a must-have item for England’s biggest games. “We like what we’ve got with Toby starting and Jonny on the bench,” Johnson said. Courtney Lawes and Ben Youngs getting first Test starts is also a sign of the times. Johnson has finally confronted the reality that Simon Shaw is unlikely to make next year’s World Cup and that Danny Care has not nailed down the No9 jersey, although he phrased it rather more diplomatically. If they respond well, Lawes and Youngs can now expect a decent run in the side. This will be an auspicious day for them and England. While Lawes’s athleticism is considerable he must prove he can perform a mountain of unglamorous physical work for 80 minutes at the highest level. Youngs, having endured a stellar season for Leicester, will find himself required to subdue Will Genia, such a pivotal figure that Deans has omitted Luke Burgess despite the latter’s fine first Test efforts. This time last year the two Premiership tyros were featuring in the World Under-20 final in Japan and have been regarded as the rising sons of English rugby ever since. “Some players don’t really want to put their heads where it’s going to hurt but I’m not too fussed,” the 21-year-old Lawes said, shrugging. “I’ll put my body on the line for my team.” Youngs, only 20, has the vision and the sharpness around the fringes to profit if England’s scrum does start rumbling forward again. “It’s the opportunity of a lifetime and hopefully one I’ll take,” he said. England’s forwards coach, John Wells, is also among those hoping for a more physical effort up front, not least from Tom Palmer and his new second-row partner Lawes. “They’re both big, heavy lads. They need to use some of their pace and weight and start knocking some players back a bit.” Shaw remains on the bench – “I’ve said to Simon: ‘If you want to compete until 2011 we’ll let you do that, we’re not writing you off,” insisted Johnson – alongside Delon Armitage, who has ousted Mathew Tait as the utility back. Given Armitage can barely muster a thimble-full of self-belief at the moment, it has to be interpreted as a shot across the bows of both Tait and Ben Foden as this tour enters its final, defining days. With Matt Giteau also back in the Wallabies’ midfield, Johnson has reiterated the need for England to display more alacrity across the park from the first whistle. Some of the tour squad spent their free time this week diving with sharks and climbing the Harbour Bridge but Johnson, who has summoned Saracens’s Brad Barritt from the Churchill Cup as cover for the injured Dominic Waldouck, has not travelled this far to be a tourist. “I don’t like losing games. Do I worry about my personal record? I just want us to get better. Of course I worry about losing but being under pressure is what playing for England is all about. That’s the whole game. If you don’t want pressure, you might as well sit there with a notepad.” England, though, have to demonstrate they have the makings of a genuinely competitive World Cup squad rather than build foundations on shaky ground. “If you paper over the cracks too many times, ultimately you set yourself up for a big fall,” Wilkinson said, stressing the importance of not looking too far ahead. Given he can remember so little about his 2003 kick – “It’s lost in a bit of a blur” – that should not be a major problem. ‘The Hills’ Recap: Brody And McKaela Are Over

Meanwhile, Audrina is back to flirting with Justin Bobby. By Amy Wilkinson McKaela tries to call Brody in “The Hills” episode “The Company You Keep” Photo: MTV Well, well, well. Kristin’s handwringing over Brody’s new lady friend was all for naught. McKaela’s unexpected friendship with one of Brody’s enemies continued to spell doom for their fledgling relationship during Tuesday’s episode of “The Hills.” It was Stephanie’s birthday, and the gang convened at Bar 210 to celebrate. Well, not everyone, since Audrina’s boyfriend, Ryan, was out on tour. “Now that he’s not here, I’ve been going out,” Audrina told Stephanie. “And I kind of miss that.” One unexpected reveler who did show up was McKaela, who had been invited last-minute by Lo. And McKaela didn’t come alone. She brought her friend Allie, whom several of the partygoers recognized immediately as the girl who allegedly broke into Brody’s pad in the middle of the night to retrieve a lost ring. As Kristin sat ever-so-close to Brody, chatting away, McKaela, who had been relegated to the opposite end of the coach with Allie, gave Kristin the evil eye. Brody ignored both McKaela and Allie to avoid any drama, but unsurprisingly, things got dramatic pretty quickly. “I don’t care if you want to be single,” McKaela declared, confronting Brody. “I just want respect.” Brody explained that he was peeved McKaela brought Allie, and seconds later he hustled out of the bar with Kristin by his side. The next morning while at work, McKaela asked Lo if she should call Brody. “Be careful,” Lo advised. McKaela dialed Brody’s number, only to have her call ignored by Brody who was still in bed, watching Kristin retrieve her belongings that were scattered across his room from the night before. Later in the day, Kristin met up with Audrina to discuss the events of the night. “You guys are like soul mates,” Audrina said of Brody and Kristin. Just then, Audrina’s phone went off — it was Justin Bobby sending her a text. When she met up with BF Ryan later in the day, she said nothing of the text, even hinting that maybe she and Ryan shouldn’t be together. “Maybe this is too much too soon,” she told him. But Ryan wouldn’t have any of it. “What we have is pretty rare and pretty special,” he assured her. As if asking for trouble, Audrina showed up at Justin Bobby’s garage to get her flirt on. “Did you tell Spikey you saw me the other night?” JB asked. Of course, Audrina hadn’t. “There’s certain people you see, and they’re just meant,” Justin Bobby said. “You can tell when two people are completely happy.” Hmm… who is he talking about? Meanwhile, Kristin finally agreed to meet with McKaela to hear her side of things. Kristin warned her that Allie was bad news and then asked how things were going between her and Brody. McKaela said they were pretty much over. And just to remind her how unwelcome Allie was, Kristin left McKaela with a few parting words: “People in L.A. take advantage of sweet girls like you.” What did you think of last night’s “Hills”? Hills Recap: Kristin Looks For A New Man

Plus, Audrina Patridge Reunites With Ex Justin Bobby By Amy Wilkinson Audrina in “The Hills” episode 6 Try as they might, Kristin Cavallari and Audrina Patridge seemed incapable of escaping their exes on Tuesday night’s episode of “The Hills.” After last week’s blow-up with ex-boyfriend-cum-friend-with-benefits Brody Jenner , Kristin was ready to dive back into the proverbial sea of fish to reel in a new catch. “If a guy came along, I wouldn’t not hang out with him because of Brody,” she told friend Stacie. The two decided to ditch Hollywood and head to Venice on a manhunt. But the night didn’t go as well as they had hoped, as the two were hit on by a tipsy klutz who almost spilled Kristin’s drink and a guy whose best pick-up line was asking if they’d seen the ’90s teen flick “Can’t Hardly Wait.” Meanwhile, on the advice of Brody, new friend (or girlfriend?) McKaela met up with Lo to talk about the Kristin situation. “It seems like there might still be something there,” she confided to Lo, asking if she should be worried about Brody’s lingering feelings for Kristin. Lo advised McKaela simply to be friendly to Kristin and, rather randomly, to interview for an internship with her employer Smashbox. Lo later accompanied Audrina and Stephanie to the Viper Room to help Audrina scout the Brit band Purple Melon. But as the rockers left the stage, another band took their place: the same band that Audrina’s ex Justin Bobby plays drums for! “I thought that was always a joke,” Lo said of Justin Bobby actually being in a band. Audrina said something about him being shy and letting his hair fall into his face while playing, to which Lo astutely added, “Like a Muppet!” Lo asked Audrina if she was going to tell boyfriend Ryan Cabrera about seeing her ex, but Audrina never really seemed to give a straight answer. She met up with Justin Bobby after the set, and the two shared a hug and a civil interaction, exchanging pleasantries. Not surprisingly, when Audrina met up with Ryan the next day for a tour of his new house, she was mum about meeting up with JB. Ryan told her he would be gone on tour for a few days; Audrina responded that it was probably best that way as she had been neglecting her friends. Does Justin Bobby count as one of these friends? McKaela ended up landing the internship at Smashbox, and one of her first tasks was to assist Lo during a photo shoot. This proved to be the perfect opportunity to seek more advice about her relationship with Brody. “How do you handle the ghosts of the past?” McKaela asked, clearly referencing Kristin. “Be observant, and if you feel like something isn’t right, it probably isn’t,” Lo advised. If only McKaela had been at Voyeur later on to see Brody getting his flirt on with Kristin after the two ran into each other. “You look good tonight,” Brody complimented her. She complained that he hadn’t texted her after their argument the week before, to which he said he was merely giving her space to cool off. The conversation ended with the two declaring their love for one another (platonically, we think) before leaving the club together. But Kristin wasn’t the only one to run into her ex, as Justin Bobby arrived with his entourage and began chatting up Audrina. “I don’t think Spike’s going to like this,” Justin Bobby warned Audrina. “When Spike’s away, Audrina will play.” Related Videos The Hills (Season 6) | Ep. 6 | ‘Ghost From The Past’ The Hills: Live After Show (Season 6) | Ep. 6 Related Photos The Hills (Season 6) | Ep. 6 | ‘Ghost From The Past’
