Amy Winehouse Family Open To Biopic

Dad Mitch Winehouse reversed course and said he’d consider a movie. By Gil Kaufman Amy Winehouse Photo: Marc Broussely/ Redferns Singer Amy Winehouse had a brief career full of jubilant highs and crushing lows. From Grammy wins and multi-platinum worldwide sales for her breakthrough, Back to Black album and recording with Tony Bennett
to drug arrests, struggles with substance abuse and her untimely death at age 27
as a result of excessive alcohol intake, Winehouse’s roller-coaster ride seems primed for the big screen. After initially rejecting reports that a biopic was in the works and saying that the family would not grant the rights to the “Rehab” singer’s music for such a project, a spokesperson for the Winehouse’s clarified on Tuesday that “[father] Mitch [Winehouse] and the family would entertain ideas perhaps for a film but only one they were sure would tell the truth,” according to Entertainment Weekly. On Monday, Mitch Winehouse told England’s Daily Mail that he would not let Amy’s music be used in a rumored biopic that is reportedly being shopped and produced by his daughter’s boyfriend, Reg Traviss. “It would hardly be a biopic without the music and we’d never allow the songs to be released,” Winehouse told the paper. He also threw cold water on rumors that Lady Gaga could be up for the role of his late daughter. “I never said Lady Gaga will play Amy in film,” he Tweeted on Monday . In the meantime, Mitch is working on a memoir, “Amy, My Daughter,” due out in October. Winehouse’s posthumous album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures ,
debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 charts this week on sales of nearly 114,000. Related Videos Amy Winehouse Remembered Related Artists Amy Winehouse

Brooke Mueller to Re-Enter Rehab

She to pull an Amy Winehouse and say “no, no, no,” but with her friends afraid she’ll actually end up like Amy Winehouse, Brooke Mueller has agreed to enter a new rehab facility. The troubled ex-wife of Charlie Sheen was arrested last week on drug possession charges, while also accused of punching a woman in the face. She is due back in an Aspen-Colorado court later this month. According to TMZ sources, Mueller will soon leave for an undisclosed treatment facility in the Los Angeles area. Sheen will be in charge of the former couple’s two sons during her time away, a less scary proposition since he stopped residing with numerous “goddesses” and acting like a “warlock.” We wish Brooke all the best in this attempt to get clean. Let’s hope the 17th time is the charm.

The X Factor Power Poll: Who’s on Top?

We’re down to nine contestants on The X Factor , as this singing competition airs a special Tuesday installment this evening and then gives two finalists the boot tomorrow night. Hey, at least they’ll be home in time for sweet potato! As we head toward the home stretch of the first season, let’s stop and assess those still around. Who has the best shot at taking home the $5 million grand prize? Who might as well give up now? Read on for our rankings. 1. Melanie Amaro . The best voice, the right look, a positive attitude. There are similarities here to Pia Toscano, who was voted out earlier than expected on American Idol last season, but the judges get the final way here. Melanie will be safe for awhile. 2. Drew Ryniewicz . Simon’s mission has been to prove that his 14-year old charge can sing beyond her years, and we’d say he accomplished that with her cover of ” With or Without You .” Moving stuff. 3. Josh Krajcik . Would have been number-one if we were basing this solely on Rock Week, considering he’s the only contestant who actually rocked . May not have the look of a star, but has the voice and the backstory. 4. Marcus Canty . He can’t hit every note, but the guy can dance and entertain! Hard to believe he wouldn’t be a successful solo artist, although the professional R&B field is quite crowded. 5. Chris Rene . Loved his take on “Gangsta’s Paradise” and the Bob Marley medley last week , even if it made little sense under the Rock theme. Lacks vocal range, but not charisma. 6. Rachel Crow . Fading a bit, as Ryniewicz has stolen her young contestant thunder. How far can simply being adorable get her? 7. Lakoda Rayne . A bit over-the-top. There are so many costumes, so much crazy lighting, so much going on at all times. It’s hard to know where to look. 8. Leroy Bell . He’s not going to win. 9. Astro . Based on talent alone? Of course he deserves a higher spot. But last week’s antics were nauseating and he only gets a slight pass for being 15. Drew and Rachel are even younger – and can you imagine either one reacting that way?

Our Day Will Come: New Amy Winehouse Single Drops

A new song off Amy Winehouse’s posthumous, upcoming album has been released, and it is beautiful, conjuring up the best possible memories of the late chanteuse. Her voice, her style, her raw ability – it’s all on display and then some, which is a pleasant surprise. Often times, these types of albums fall well short of expectations. Not here. The cover of Ruby and the Romantics’ 1963 song “Our Day Will Come,” which she recorded back in 2002 but never released, is vintage Amy Winehouse . Her third album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures , drops December 5. If this soft, sultry track is any indication of what the full record is like, it might be a must-have: Amy Winehouse – Our Day Will Come

Will Ferrell ‘Flattered’ By Jay-Z/Kanye ‘Paris’ Cameo

‘When I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal,’ he tells MTV News of Throne’s ‘Blades of Glory’ sample. By James Montgomery Will Ferrell Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images It’s one of the biggest — and most inexplicable — hits of 2011, a song so popular that its hook was name-checked during player introductions on Sunday Night Football, so massive that Jay-Z and Kanye West have taken to performing it multiple times per set on their Watch the Throne Tour . We’re talking, of course, about “N—as in Paris,” the max-impact Throne single that has become a sensation, thanks in no small part to producer Hit-Boy’s bouncing beat , West’s pop-cult wordplay (“What’s that jacket, Margiela?”) and, of course, a pair of oddball samples taken from Will Ferrell’s 2007 figure-skating comedy “Blades of Glory.” As you’re probably aware, “Paris” kicks off with Ferrell’s grizzled Chazz Michael Michaels defiantly declaring, “We’re gonna skate to one song and one song only,” then really picks up steam mid-song, when (in a move that could alternately be described as “completely inspired” or “completely insane”), Hit-Boy drops the beat and lets the song roll on a second Ferrell sample: ” No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative … it gets the people going !” And, indeed, it has done just that. “Paris” currently sits atop Billboard ‘s Hip-Hop/R&B Charts, dominates urban radio and has received a thunderous response at Throne shows. And, thanks to Ferrell’s contributions, it’s certainly one of the oddest mainstream hip-hop tracks in recent history too. And if you’re wondering how the whole thing came to be, well, you’re not the only one: Turns out, Ferrell’s pretty mystified by the track too, as he told MTV News in an email Tuesday (November 8). “Kanye reached out to me and I said, ‘Of course,’ ” Ferrell wrote. “I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song … and when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song.” So much so, in fact, that Ferrell said he’s hoping to take the Throne collaboration to the next level — “We were trying to film a piece that they would use on the video boards of their concert, but haven’t gotten it together,” he wrote — and the whole process has opened his eyes to an entirely new career opportunity: Being the go-to sample guy on the hip hop circuit. “I think [something from] ‘Step Brothers’ would be good [to use in a song],” he wrote. “Or the Woody Allen movie I did, ‘Melinda and Melinda.’ ” Regardless of whether any of those ideas come to fruition, thanks to the “Paris” success, Ferrell can bask in his newfound street cred, which is certainly at an all-time high. And that’s saying something for a guy who once starred opposite Andre 3000 . “It makes me feel very good,” he wrote. “And completely justified for buying a V-neck sweater made out of nothing but diamonds.” Were you surprised by Will’s Throne cameo? Nas Put Amy Winehouse Song ‘In Perspective’ For Producer

‘He put that energy back into [the song], because she repped for him,’ Salaam Remi tells MTV News of ‘Like Smoke.’ By Rob Markman Nas Photo: Getty Images The late Amy Winehouse and Nas had a mutual bond that few knew about. Not only do Amy and Nas share the same September 14 birthday, but according to producer Salaam Remi, they have a number of collaborations that were left on the cutting-room floor. The recently released “Like Smoke” is the first time fans got to hear them in tandem. “Amy sang on records that we never put out with Nas,” the multiplatinum hitmaker told MTV News last month in New York’s Jungle Studios. “As far as them now getting on the same record, that was a conversation in play for the last couple of years but that just didn’t happen yet, and when I listened to that song, I was like, you know what? This makes sense, to actually make that happen as far as things that she wants to do that didn’t happen yet.” “Like Smoke” will appear on Amy’s December 6 posthumous album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, and features Nas dropping a pair of brand-new verses in between Winehouse’s bluesy vocal. Though Amy wasn’t around to hear the rhymes Nas dropped just a couple of weeks ago, Salaam is confident that based off her admiration for the Queensbridge rapper, she would approve. Amy famously sang about Nas on “Me and Mr. Jones” from her breakout Back to Black album, and the two became acquainted through their mutual friend Salaam. “He just put it in perspective for me,” Remi said of Nas’ mind-set before writing his portion of “Like Smoke.” “I never wanted you to be my man, I just need your company,” Amy starts out singing to an unknown lover. Nas on the other hand speaks directly of his fallen friend when he spits, “I be out in London, Camden, hunting for the answers/ Why did God take away the homey,” he questions. “As far as myself, I feel like I’m repping her musically because that’s what I know of her more than anyone else,” he said. “And then as far as where [Nas is] at, he put that energy back into [the song], because she repped for him. I mean, who writes songs for people, unless you really respect them?” What do you think of “Like Smoke”? Let us know in the comments! Amy Winehouse, Nas Duet ‘Like Smoke’ Debuts

First single from Winehouse’s posthumous album premiered on New York’s Hot 97 Wednesday. By Gil Kaufman Amy Winehouse Photo: MTV News The world got its first taste of Amy Winehouse ‘s upcoming posthumous album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, when the late singer’s duet with rapper pal Nas premiered on New York’s Hot 97 on Wednesday. The tune from the album, due December 6, is called “Like Smoke,” and it was recorded in May 2008 and produced by Amy’s longtime collaborator Salaam Remi. It features Winehouse singing in her signature slurry blues drawl over a classic Motown downbeat as Mr. Jones serves up some of his knotty verses. In fact, while Winehouse sings the five-line hook on the tune, it is Nas who does the heavy lifting, courtesy of two dense verses packed with references to his personal travails, from love and marriage to taxes, the recession and, way before it was a thing, a line about a tall freak who “wouldn’t protest with me at Wall Street.” “I never wanted you to be my man/ I just need your company,” Winehouse croons over a loping beat, skittering drums and subtle strings and flute. “Don’t want to get dependent on/ Your time then lose the way you love me/ Like smoke, I hung around.” Then it’s Nas’ turn, as the MC breaks off his first rapid-fire verse: “It’s not a movie, this is not a script or proofread/ I’ll spit some untruths to dumb fools and groupies/ Fun to punctuate, pronunciate the funds I make.” The rapper, who split with wife Kelis in 2009, then appears to get personal, rhyming, “Like a polygamist, with a twist/ Will I marry again? Maybe, I guess/ I hold a lady’s interest, I just me/ The love scholar, she the teacher’s pet.” Nas and Winehouse were pals from way back, with the singer name-dropping her New York friend on the track “Me and Mr. Jones” from her breakthrough Back to Black album. Though a press release about the album said the song was tracked as far back as early 2008, Nas’ second verse feels ripped from the headlines . “Yo, this recession is a test/ It’s affecting my complexion/ Misdirection my affection/ My concerns are bill collections,” he rhymes, going on to complain about the tax man coming after him and some impropriety on the part of his money handlers. “Evaluate the world bank trusts like I’m IEG,” he adds. “Tall freak, she wouldn’t protest with me at Wall Street/ She says, no, you’re so deep.” He ends his second verse with a tribute to Winehouse, rapping, “NYC to U.K. I might stay there/ Everybody in the club tonight say, ‘Yeah’/ You know how me and Amy are, straight players.” On Thursday (November 3), Hot 97 also premiered another track from the album, “Our Day Will Come,” Amy’s funky reggae take on the 1960s doo-wop tune by Ruby & the Romantics. Winehouse died in July at age 27 as a result of excessive alcohol intake. Some of the proceeds from the sales of the album will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity set up by the singer’s family to fight addiction. What do you think of the new Winehouse songs? Keri Hilson Gets Snatched Up On Stage By Crazed Fan [VIDEO]

Keri Hilson was attacked on stage earlier this month while performing in Paris. A fan, who jumped from a balcony in the audience, rushed the stage while she was singing the last song of the night and tried to steal a kiss, snatching her body and pulling her towards him before security came in. After the incident, the Decatur songstress tweeted: “ His intentions were good! But I was def caught off guard.” “ To the guy who ran on stage & stole a kiss, I LOVE YOU TOO. Didn’t appreciate how u were handled. But next time, enjoy from the audience ” “ I just learned that dude jumped from the 2nd story balcony for the task…ok, so maybe he was a lil crazy! Just jokes. I love my fans, yo!!!” Considering how scary the situation seemed (watch for yourself!), she seems awfully understanding! 2:30 mark Keri Hilson Goes In On Her Assistant, Security Steps In Keri Hilson Gets Tough For “I Am Still Music” Tour [PHOTOS] Keri Hilson Gets Sexy At Birthday Bash 16!
