Source: Masonia Traylor / Masonia Traylor When Masonia Traylor tested positive for HIV in 2010, the then-23-year-old was in a state of utter shock. See, since Masonia was a teen, she was adamant on getting tested regardless of being in what she believed were low-risk monogamous relationships. And every year, her tests came back negative, until that day, when it didn’t. “I thought they were lying, that they got somebody’s blood mixed up with mine,” Traylor told HelloBeautiful . Three days later, after she went to see an infectious disease specialist it began to sink in that HIV was her reality. “When they started withdrawing blood from me over and over again, I realized that it was real. This is what was happening and happening to me.” What she didn’t really expect was what she found out next. Two weeks later, she found out she was pregnant with her second child. However, with the help of her doctor’s support and taking her antiretrovirals, Masonia gave birth to a HIV-negative baby girl, who has remained negative for nearly eight years. Traylor, who is currently finishing her degree in public policy, has dedicated her work to being an advocate having served as a campaign ambassador for CDC’s Act Against AIDS, “Stop HIV Together” and Kaiser Family Foundation, “Greater Than Aids- Empowerment & We Are Family” projects. She’s also a blogger and Community Advisory Board member for The Well Project, a non-profit organization geared for women living with HIV/AIDS. For Traylor, she shares her story so that other Black women will see that HIV can happen to anyone. “I started off as a voice to be out there for other women to see that if I had HIV, being who I am, they could too,” adding, “I felt like maybe HIV was quietly rising in the community and people needed to know about it because I can’t be the only one.” She also speaks out as a way to pay homage to a friend who passed away from complications to AIDS. “I lost a friend to complications of AIDS at a time where I wish I known he had known about my status. I wish he would have known that he wasn’t alone.” For National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) , the young mother of two and HIV activist talked to us about what Black women to know about this epidemic, why HIV testing is key and why we need to finally erase stigma for good. HelloBeautiful: Being an HIV advocate, what do you want our community to know? Masonia Traylor: I want for us to understand that we have to care and pay attention if we want this epidemic to shift substantially instead of only progressively. I need my community not to feel forced to accept that I have HIV/AIDS but to respect my journey of living with it. Not to mention, education is an important step towards ending the epidemic but so is taking a stand in our community and honoring values around our sexual health to protect one another. That will put us closer to a cure then we’ll ever need. HB: What do you have to say to other Black women who don’t think HIV can happen to them? MT: The first word of HIV is human. And as long as you’re human, you’re at risk for this disease. If anything, we shouldn’t be the last ones to think that we can be diagnosed with HIV, we need to be the first ones. And we need to not only protect the next generation to come, but be extremely overprotective of our own health more than anybody else. That, and protecting Black women, protecting ourselves, automatically ends up protecting Black men because they end up respecting us more because we respect ourselves. HB: Even in 2019, there is still so much stigma surrounding HIV. Why is erasing stigma so important? MT: As a community we need to erase stigma to help encourage those living with the virus to not be afraid nor ashamed to forgive themselves, save themselves, and our community. Stigma inflicts pain, and digs deep scars across our minds and hearts. In order to live unapologetically strong, support is needed and destigmatizing HIV/AIDS needs to be erased in order to be supportive. HB: Why everyone should get tested for HIV? MT: First off, I don’t think testing everyone is realistic due to certain laws [that require patient’s consent to get tested for HIV] and not everyone wants to know their status. And we should respect that choice. However, I wish everyone would get tested just to help slow down transmission and get control of the spread of this disruptive virus. Although I believe that getting tested is not enough prevention, however testing saved my life and has spared many others. Testing keeps unborn babies from being born with HIV/AIDS too. I think it’s better to know what’s going on in your body then to wait and your body suddenly shuts down due to not being proactive of your health. Take care of your health and your body will take care of you. Testing is part of that. HB: Finally, in a world that tries to shame people for being HIV-positive, how you live with HIV with NO shame? MT: I’m able to live unapologetically with HIV because I understand that no one can judge me harder than I judge myself. I have forgiven myself for trusting someone else with my life over trusting myself more. I understand how I can and cannot transmit the virus. I have birthed an HIV-negative baby as proof that I can still live a normal life. I KNOW that if it can happen to me that no one is exempt nor excluded from possibly contracting HIV or developing AIDS. Like I said earlier, I understand that the H in HIV stands for HUMAN which means that as long as you are human it can happen to you. I’m not ashamed of another’s fear. Source: Prince Williams / Getty It’s been a pretty tough and confusing weekend for 21 Savage and anyone that’s a fan of his music. Over the weekend, the rapper was taken into custody for possible removal from the U.S. TMZ reported, “21 Savage was picked up by ICE early Sunday morning. He apparently entered the U.S. legally in 2005 but his visa expired and he reportedly is here illegally. He reportedly is being held for removal proceedings … this for being in the country illegally and for being a felon. He was convicted of drug charges in 2014.” Lots of folks have pointed out that the timing of 21’s arrest is an eyebrow raiser. Not only that, but isn’t ICE’s job capture immigrants who are involved in illegal activity? We all know that Savage, whose r eal name is Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph , has a past — but he’s pretty much been on a strait and narrow for several years and doing so much for the African-American community. There’s so much more to the young star than tattoos, guns and an expired visa. Hit the flip for all the times 21 Savage made us love him.
Source: Curtis B / Radio One (Friday, January 25th) The girls of the Ron Clark Academy (RCA) had an exciting, eye opening experience as they toured the set of the Fox television HIT show STAR, co-created by Lee Daniels. The 5th-7th graders that participated in the special field trip are part of the “Saving Our Daughter’s Cinderella” program, co-founded by actress and singer, Keke Palmer, who is also a guest star on STAR. Going on its second year of the STAR and Saving Our Daughters special set visits; this field trip was coordinated and hosted by Assistant to James E. Williams of Star Season 3, Taylor Williams. In addition to setting up a tour of the stages and sets, Q&A with some of the crew enlightened the girls of the team effort involved in the development of the show. Tasha Smith (Actress, Director) Mack Price (Production Assistant), Rachel Guilfoyle (Costumes Coordinator), Carrie Clever (Seamstress), Natalie Rhooms (Set Director), Zoey Wang (Art Coordinator )and Aamina Gant (Music Coordinator) spoke to and visited with the RCA Cinderellas about what it is like to work on a television series, their professions and the life choices they made that led them to STAR. Source: Curtis B / Radio One Source: Curtis B / Radio One “FOX Television & the STAR team’s openness to provide these opportunities are priceless. It’s takes a village to bring awareness of the possible careers in the arts and to encourage young girls to push through their challenges and pursue their dreams. Thank you again for sharing your gifts with us.” – Saving Our Daughters’ Co-Founder, Debbie Benjamin The girls had the pleasure of meeting everyone from wardrobe, production design, photography and set decoration. They were blessed and encouraged after talking in depth with Tasha Smith. To hear Tasha’s personal testimony of overcoming bullying, childhood adversities and drug abuse in her family; to evolve into an assertive, successful actress, director and producer left a lasting impression on the students. Watching the anticipation build as the girls were about to witness an actual rehearsal scene in the recording studio, their faces beamed with amazement, as actresses/singers Jude Demorest (Star) and Ryan Destiny (Alexandria) came out to encourage the girls, take photos and give hugs to each girl. I am so grateful for the experience! When we arrived, we were given a tour of the set where we met a few workers who all had completely different but exciting jobs. These jobs included costume design, production assistant, and set design. It was really cool for me to see how much preparation goes behind filming just one scene. We even met Jude Demorest and Ryan Destiny, two of the stars of the show. We also met the director, the one and only Ms. Tasha Smith! I really appreciate how the Saving Our Cinderellas program continues to reach out to girls like me to expose us to new things we don’t get to do or see every day!” Sanaa Dais, 6th “It was an honor to have been chosen to view the set of Star. The experience was awesome and the I will never forget that memory. I met some terrific and talented individuals. How many people can say they’ve met Tasha Smith? Meeting the cast was great. Thank you for an awesome experience.” Joy Udoh, 6th “My Savings Our Cinderella’s experience has been nothing short of amazing. I loved getting to see the tv set and seeing what goes on behind the scenes. Being a young girl, it’s truly inspiring to watch other women take the lead in fields that you didn’t even know existed. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and I absolutely loved it.” Haley Crawley, 7th “I was invited to the set of STAR and had the opportunity of meeting Jude (Star), Ryan (Alexandra), Taylor, and Mac. I loved the whole thing. I got to learn about the set. I learned about the roles of an assistant director, a production assistant, and a set designer. We also learned what happened in the design and art studio. My favorite part was the fashion designers. I love fashion. Thank you for the amazing experience.” Zoey Little, 6th “I really enjoyed being on the set of Star. I know a lot of people do not get the experience that I got to have, let alone meet two of the main characters, Star and Alexandra. My favorite part overall was going to the costume department where I got to ask questions about how many costumes one character has and about the budget. I really enjoyed this experience as it changed my outlook on how much work goes on behind the scenes in the filming industry.”
B lack women are displaying excellence in all fields, especially in the realm of sports. A group of women from Antigua recently hit a major milestone by becoming the first all-Black women’s rowing team to cross the Atlantic Ocean, Black Enterprise reported. Meet the first all-black women’s rowing team to cross the Atlantic Ocean. https://t.co/BHM4a2X4aN — Black Enterprise (@blackenterprise) February 1, 2019 The women—dubbed Team Antigua-The Island Girls—competed in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. The competition is a premier event in ocean rowing. The team—which included Kevinia Francis , Christal Clashing , Elvira Bell , and Samara Emmanuel —embarked on their journey on December 12 in the Canary Islands and returned to Antigua at the end of January. Their journey was nothing short of grueling but the women pushed through and persevered. The entire trip was a total of 3,000 miles and they dealt with sea sickness and complications with their boat. Each woman brought their vast athletic experience to the competition. Francis was known for playing a handful of sports including track-and-field, basketball and cycling, Clashing is a former Olympian who became the first woman swimmer to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the Olympics, Bell is a swim instructor, and Emmanuel’s experience as a sailor spans over a decade. Junella King —a 17-year-old who served as an alternate for the team—worked as a sailing instructor. The competition was about more than rowing, the focus was on social good as well. The team competed to raise $150,000 for a charity called Cottage of Hope which focuses on providing shelter for orphaned girls who experience abuse. The women received a warm welcome home, as the government closed schools and other institutions early so that locals could congratulate the team. “While this is the third time a team from Antigua and Barbuda has entered the Challenge, we are truly proud that the first all-black female team to row the Atlantic is comprised of four courageous Antiguan women,” Charles Fernandez , Antigua and Barbuda Minister of Tourism, told Caribbean Life News . “This is history in the making, and it will truly be a momentous occasion for Antigua and Barbuda.” SEE ALSO: Hampton University Becomes First HBCU To Have Women’s Triathlon Team Tennis Star Naomi Osaka Slated To Ink Adidas’ Biggest Deal With A Woman Athlete [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3845042″ overlay=”true”]
Source: Ivan Nikolov/WENN.com / WENN Ariana Grande is super proud of her new single “7 Rings,” despite what Soulja Boy and 2 Chainz have had to say about the pop star stealing their pretty boy trap house swag for the song and visual, respectively. In case you missed it, Big Soulja hit Twitter to confront Ariana about jacking his flow, then 2 Chainz hit Instagram to “figure out” if he “should Big Draco” Ariana after she pretty much copied his infamous Pink Trap House for her video set. You would think she would stop there…but nope…and now she seems to be paying for it. The singer made headlines after revealing a new tattoo earlier this week… she got “7 Rings” in Japanese, or so she thought. Social media was quick to point out a huge error—and long story short, her tattoo actually translated to “shichirin,” a small charcoal grill. Hilarious right? Taking to Twitter in an attempt to trivialize her mistake, she wrote “Indeed, I left out ‘つの指,’ which should have gone in between. It hurt like f*ck n still looks tight. I wouldn’t have lasted one more symbol lmao. But this spot also peels a ton and won’t last so if I miss it enough I’ll suffer thru the whole thing next time.” Adding, “also….huge fan of tiny bbq grills.” But it doesn’t end there…apparently after trying to get her tattoo fixed, Ariana f*cked up again. Uploading a photo of what she believed to be new and improved ink to her Instagram Story, she wrote “Slightly better. thanks to my tutor for helping me fix and to @kanenavasard for being a legend. and to my doctor for the lidocaine shots (no joke). rip tiny charcoal grill. miss u man. i actually really liked u.” But… Why… how… now Ariana’s tattoo reads “Japanese BBQ finger” pic.twitter.com/zC2LxSKJtI — Eimi Yamamitsu | 山光瑛美 (@eimiyamamitsu) January 31, 2019 Buzzfeed Japan news reporter Eimi Yamamitsu claims the tat is still incorrect. “Why… how… now Ariana’s tattoo reads ‘Japanese BBG finger’” she hilariously tweeted . Of course, social media was quick to drag the hell out of Ariana . “I still have a hard time understanding why ANYONE would get a tattoo in a language they don’t speak/aren’t connected to through heritage or even location. Literally what is the point? Y’all can defend Ariana Grande all you want but she low key dumb af” – @arikvash “ariana fucking up her tattoo shows why you shouldn’t use a language as an aesthetic this is humiliating” – @jksdaydream “ariana grande getting an incorrectly google translated tattoo in japanese is karma for trying to user another culture as an accessory. imagine tattooing bbq grill onto ur hand omg…” – @chromegens But also, people want to know if Ariana’s hand was photoshopped because… Tattoo aside…was this pic facetuned or does ariana not have fingerprints/hand lines pic.twitter.com/2Vg53OPT4J — Veronica de Souza (@HeyVeronica) January 30, 2019 Welp.
With Jonathan Bennett and Ryan Lochte out of the house, it was obvious who the next target was going to be: Joey Lawrence. In a rare turn of events, there’s a good chance that the first three evicted houseguests are all male, and it’s going to change the dynamic up quite a bit. Joey’s association with Ryan, Jonathan, and Dinah left him in a precarious position, and with a new HOH about to be crowned, it meant there was a chance he could keep himself safe. In the immediate aftermath of Ryan’s eviction, Lolo couldn’t help but turn on the waterworks. She may not have won gold in the Olympics, but she could sure as hell win a gold trophy for her acting. Lolo flipped the bird at Ryan just days into the game, so it’s utterly laughable that she thinks people are buying the whole “we were buddies” schtick. Joey wasted no time in starting up a new alliance consisting of himself, Dinah, Kandi, and Tamar. He pitched it, but not very well, and Tamar was not ready to jump ship. Her statement on the matter was actually pretty darn hilarious. “You wanna have an alliance with you, me, Kandi (who don’t like to do nothing physical) and Dina? Against the bootleg superhero? No, that’s not finna work, we’re gonna lose!” Joey could have at least threw in a Melissa and Joey boxset to sweeten the deal, but the brains are most definitely lost on him. Natalie and Lolo realized that now was the time to win the HOH. The pair has been picking and choosing which competitions to try winning because they thought they were in a good spot. However, Ricky showed up to let them know that Joey wanted to target them, and it made the women realize that Joey needed to go next. The HOH competition found the houseguests competing to make their way through a haunted house to find a set of car keys in the fastest time. “I don’t do haunted houses, I don’t do no Halloween honey, I don’t do clowns, I don’t do snakes, I don’t do caterpillars, I don’t do birds, I don’t do none of that stuff that’s going to scare me, no, none of that,” said Tamar. Tamar followed that up by walking out of the house after screaming too many times. Yup, she threw in the towel at the competition. After Tom won the HOH competition, Kandi wanted to know where his head was it, so she quizzed him about alliances he was in. He tried to turn the tables on her, and the conversation fizzled out. Tom, Kato, and Ricky later strategized and settled on Tamar and Kandi as the nominations, with Ryan being the backdoor target. However, Tom was now sketched out by Ricky and wondered just how long they would be able to trust him. Before the nominations ceremony, the Power of the Publicist was unleashed on the house, giving one houseguest the power to keep themselves safe at one of the next two nominations or veto ceremonies. While Big Brother only confirmed it would get the houseguest out of a “sticky” situation, the victor was Tamar, and she learned all about it. In the end, Tom put up Joey and Kandi because he was worried that he would have to vote out one of his own allies. What are your thoughts on all the latest action? Hit the comments below! Here’s a clip of Christina Hendricks getting her fuck on in whatever it is she’s getting her fuck on in…. I like to think of this as an educational or instructional video on how to fuck a fat girl…like that time I got a DVD called the Art of Female Ejaculation…that wasn’t hot because the women demonstrating were the kind of women you’d expect to demonstrate that kind of thing back in the 90s…swinger amateurs in their 50s….I still have the DVD somewhere…. Either way, it’s like that…you still gotta jerk off to it, and it gives you a takeaway knowledge you can apply to your life fucking fat girls….just lay back and let her rock back and forth while you stare at her terrifyingly huge and amazing tits…. waiting to see if your vital organs give out on you from the weight….or that she doesn’t die on you…cuz it’ll be hard to get out and you’ll be forced to finish in her- making you a necrophiliac..and if you like being that Necrophiliac…you’ve just complicated the fuck out of your life… So here she is, rocking back and forth, lazy…because she’s not fit enough to try to bounce on your dick flat footed, but you appreciate the rocking back and forth, so long as your dick is being enough to get around the belly. It’s the she’s horny and wet from all that gravy she ate for lunch, and it feels like she peed on you, but it could just be her sweat…it’s alot of work to actually move…and it’s not a bang the fuck out kind of being ridden…more a leisurely walk kind of being ridden…and you know if you bust up in her…she may not get pregnant cuz she’s old..and because fat girls have irregular periods… The point of the story is that Christina Hendricks has huge tits…that are being kept in a bra to not bounce around aggressively and unattractively..and that is pretty unfortunate… JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES!
