As the blockbuster prepares to hit digital HD platforms (iTunes, Amazon) on May 8, the director of the film, Ryan Coogler, has revealed a deleted scene. It involves Danai Gurira ‘s character Okoye and Daniel Kaluuya ‘s character W’Kabi getting into an argument. According to Coogler, the scene was meant to reveal the two characters were married, yet had dividing beliefs. Check out Danai and Daniel’s amazing performances below. Former NBC staffers have accused Tom Brokaw of sexual misconduct , and he has admitted that he acted inappropriately, but says that it did not rise to the level described. Now, he sent out a mass email to a number of colleagues, in which he takes a much harsher tone towards the accusations and one of the women who made them. That email has been obtained and published for all to see. In a lengthy email to his colleagues that has been obtained by The Hollywood Reporter , Tom Brokaw denounces the allegations against him. “It is 4:00 am on the first day of my new life as an accused predator in the universe of American journalism.” It’s off to a very melodramatic start. “I was ambushed and then perp walked across the pages of The Washington Post and Variety as an avatar of male misogyny.” If you think that this hyperbole is a bit much, just wait for this next line. “Taken to the guillotine and stripped of any honor and achievement I had earned in more than a half century of journalism and citizenship.” After the hyperbole train comes to a near-stop, he suggests that he knows the motives of Linda Vester, the woman identified by name in the article. “I am facing a long list of grievances from a former colleague who left NBC News angry that she had failed in her pursuit of stardom.” He then drops that he’s responsible for her career. “She has unleashed a torrent of unsubstantiated criticism and attacks on me more than twenty years after I opened the door for her and a new job at Fox news.” Brokaw seems bewildered that these accusations against him were in print. “Linda Vester was given the run of the Washington Post and Variety to vent her grievances.” He then characterizes the accusations against him: “To complain that I tickled her without permission (you read that right), that I invaded her hotel room, accepted an invitation to her apartment under false pretenses. …” He sees these accusations as a personal attack. “And in general was given a free hand to try to destroy all that I have achieved with my family, my NBC career, my writing and my citizenship.” He says that, essentially, everyone is on his side. “My NBC colleagues are bewildered that Vester, who had limited success at NBC News, a modest career at Fox and a reputation as a colleague who had trouble with the truth, was suddenly the keeper of the flame of journalistic integrity.” It sounds like he’s trying to say that she is not trustworthy or truthful. One wonders if he will also say the same about his other accuser if she is named, and about any others who might speak up. “Her big charge: that on two occasions more than 20 years ago I made inappropriate and uninvited appearances in her apartment and in a hotel room.” “As an eager beginner, Vester, like others in that category, was eager for advice and camaraderie with senior colleagues. She often sought me out for informal meetings, including the one she describes in her New York hotel room.” In her accusations, he called her and informed her that she was coming over — after having been turned down when he asked her out for a drink. “I should not have gone but I emphatically did not verbally and physically attack her and suggest an affair in language right out of pulp fiction.” She said that he tried to kiss her against her will, which is something that clearly has stuck with her for a long time. “She was coy, not frightened, filled with office gossip, including a recent rumor of an affair.” So … they were talking. “As that discussion advanced she often reminded me she was a Catholic and that she was uncomfortable with my presence. So I left,” He says that he’s now shocked that she was upset by the visit. “23 years later, to be stunned by her melodramatic description of the meeting.” Interesting to hear the guy who just described being guillotined accuse someone else of being melodramatic . “As I got up to leave I may have leaned over for a perfunctory goodnight kiss, but my memory is that it happened at the door – on the cheek.” Brokaw says that her description of that kiss was not as she described. “No clenching her neck. That move she so vividly describes is NOT WHO I AM. Not in high school, college or thereafter.” Brokaw also says that she left out some details. “Here is a part of her story she somehow left out. I think I saw her in the hallways and asked how it was going.” He says that he offered her career advice. “She was interested in cable start up [sic] and I said I didn’t think that was going anywhere. What about Fox, which was just building up?” He says that he then made that connection happen. “She was interested and followed me to my office where, while she listened in, I called Roger Ailes. He said, ‘send her over.'” He then accuses her of hypocrisy by having never said anything publicly about Ailes after he was accused of sexual harassment and forced to resign . Again, he reiterates that he does not like that the accusations against him were published, as she believes that this woman is biased. “I am stunned by the free ride given a woman with a grudge against NBC News, no distinctive credentials or issue passions while at FOX.” He believes that she was accusing him out of a desire for attention, which is a fairly common deflection from people accused of misdeeds. “Strip away all of the hyperbole and what has she achieved? What was her goal? Hard to believe it wasn’t much more Look At Me than Me:Too.” Sometimes, it’s difficult to know a person’s true character until you see how they respond to adversity. It has now come to light that she solicited other celebrities to join Nxivm. Was she trying to turn Emma Watson and Kelly Clarkson into sex slaves for Keith Raniere? On Friday, Allison Mack entered a plea of “not guilty” for sex trafficking and forced labor. See, even if you pretend that it’s “empowering,” it is in fact illegal to coerce people to have sex through blackmail and the threat of beatings. Yes, it’s still illegal even if the initials are already branded on that woman’s body. Mack is, of course, accused of recruiting women to join the pyramid scheme and then selecting which women would be ordered to Raniere’s bed. And now it’s come out that she may have very brazenly tried to recruit two very familiar names over twitter: Beloved Harry Potter star Emma Watson and sometimes controversial American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. “I’m a fellow actress like yourself and involved in an amazing women’s movement I think you’d dig,” Mack wrote. Her tweet continued: “I’d love to chat if you’re open.” A month later, when Watson still hadn’t taken the bait, Mack wrote: “I participate in a unique human development and women’s movement I’d love to tell you about.” Well … it certainly is unique as far as women’s movements go. Allison Mack also wrote to Kelly Clarkson. With Clarkson, she used a somewhat vaguer approach, apparently hoping to dazzle the Since You’ve Been Gone singer with her “star power.” “I heard through the grapevine that you’re a fan of Smallville.” Smallville ran for 10 seasons. Its fan base was relatively small yet very dedicated. “I’m a fan of yours as well! I’d love to chat sometime.” Those are deceptive friendly words for such an ominous tweet. While it doesn’t look like Watson or Clarkson fell for Mack’s invitation, that doesn’t make this any less bizarre. It’s not surprising, however. Mack was said to have quickly become one of Raniere’s favorites because he liked having a celebrity (or close enough) to recruit more people to Nxivm. It only stands to reason that, either of her own volition or acting on Raniere’s orders, Mack would seek other celebrities with whom she might have an “in.” Emma Watson is an outspoken feminist, so Mack clearly hoped that calling Nxivm a “women’s movement” would help to draw her in. And since Kelly Clarkson apparently likes Smallville , well, who wouldn’t want to hear from an actor from a show that they love? It’s not clear if she was determined to rope them into joining the sex slave cult, or was just trying to get them both in the “normal” self-help part of the organization to draw in more members. There’s no doubt that Allison Mack was a major recruitment tool for Nxivm. But some have called into question how much a willing participant she was in the abuse that she allegedly doled out. We don’t know all of the evidence that the prosecution will present, but prosecutors may find themselves in a tricky situation. If they successfully prove that the women in Raniere’s DOS program were unwilling participants and sex trafficking victims because of abuse and blackmail and brainwashing … … Might Mack’s defense team use that to argue that she herself was also a victim? They might also try to argue that, if Mack was capable of making her own choices, that the victims were all there of their own free will? Let us be clear: We feel very sorry for Khloe Kardashian. How can we not, right? The reality star has seen her entire world shattered, having discovered just one day before giving birth that Tristan Thompson slept with numerous other women while she was pregnant. Things cannot be easy for Khloe right now. But here’s the thing. And this is always the thing when it comes to the Kardashian: It’s hard to know when real emotions end and scripted emotions begin. We make this statement because we just learned that E! cameras were on hand when Khloe gave birth early on the morning of April 12. A Keeping Up with the Kardashians insider has confirmed as much to People Magazine, telling the publication: “ Khloe labored with [mom Kris Jenner] yesterday at the hospital. Tristan was there for the birth. “He has practice today, but will spend as much time at the hospital as possible.” It’s not news that Thompson was in the room when Khloe gave birth. Nor is it news that Kim was on hand and, according to her own Twitter account, held Khloe’s legs open for the blessed event . But it is definitely news that footage of Khloe’s birth will air at some point on Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 15. Odds are strong that Khloe had agreed to this in a contract a long time ago. It’s safe to assume she had no idea the awful personal twist that would occur the same week she welcomed her first kid into the world. But still. A development such as this causes us to wonder just how much of what we’re reading is legitimate and how much is fake. (For the record, Entertainment Tonight writes that no actual cameramen were in the delivery room; two small cameras were simply installed inside of it.) Prior to Khloe officially becoming a mother, multiple production sources told ET that E! producers were trying to decide how Thompson’s cheating scandal would play out on television. They were wondering whether it would become a storyline on future episodes of the show. Come on, though. Is there any doubt this will be a major arc whenever the long-running reality show returns? Months from now, E! commercials will tease the birth and the drama surrounding it as if the whole thing was conjured up by a team of writers. Which we’re not saying is the case. We don’t doubt that Thompson really has been cheating on Kardashian and that she is very broken up about it. But can you blame us for looking at the scandal differently when we know that Khloe and her loved ones will eventually profit from the multiple affairs? While we ponder this question, we wait for many others to be answered: What will Khloe name her daughter? Will she forgive Tristan? Will she raise the child in Cleveland or Los Angeles? Will the Cavaliers make it back to the NBA Finals? Will Lamar Odom make a play for his ex-wife? Darn it. Now we sound like TV producers previewing what’s to come, don’t we? Like most of America, we’re all still reeling with the knowledge that someone bit Beyonce … and reveling in the mystery of who it might have been. But long before someone tried to start the Beyhive version of the apocalypse, someone else wronged Beyonce. Her husband, Jay-Z, famously cheated on her . In a brand new interview, he’s opening up about the work that he put in to try to make things right. Netflix has a series titled My Next Guest Needs No Introduction . David Letterman hosts it. One such guest who needs no introduction is Jay-Z. Even if he weren’t the most famous rapper in the world, his wife is a pop singer who is so widely revered that she’s almost been deified. Letterman’s own affairs are almost as notorious as Jay-Z’s. While Letterman didn’t write a confessional album about his adultery and while he also didn’t have his sister-in-law clean his clock in a famous elevator video, he was known for having affairs with members of his own staff. He opens with that, and mentioning that he feels that he’s a better person now after going through all of that. Which Letterman then uses to segue into his question to Jay-Z, asking if that “rings a bell.” It does, Jay-Z more or less says. “I want to have the emotional tools that it takes to keep my family together.” That’s a very intelligent way of phrasing that. “And much like you, I have a beautiful wife who’s understanding and knew I’m not the worst of what I’ve done.” Well, let’s not go comparing Beyonce’s beauty to that of other women. Pretty sure that several Greek tragedies start that way. “We did the hard work of going to therapy and you know, we love each other, right?” Therapy can work wonders, for individuals and for couples. Just because it’s not for everyone doesn’t mean that it’s not helpful for most people. “So we really put in the work.” Jay-Z continues his answer, speaking of his relationship with his wife. “Like you, I like to believe we’re in a better place today.” That’s wonderful to hear. But he says that he and Beyonce are “still working and communicating and growing.” Marriage’s challenges evolve with time, which is why relationships that once worked beautifully can fall apart over time. In some ways, it almost sounds like Jay-Z is saying that he’s a better person than he’d have been if he hadn’t cheated on Beyonce. (But that sounds like a chicken-and-egg situation, since surely a worse Jay-Z would have still cheated) It’s not just that Jay-Z doesn’t want to lose his wife. He doesn’t want to fracture his family, which now includes three children, over something like meaningless sex. He risked all of that, and spoke about it pretty directly in his confessional album, 4:44 . Jay-Z does agree with Letterman’s sentiment, saying that he feels like a better person now. He says that he is “proud of the father and the husband that I am today because of all the work that was done.” That’s wonderful. On a slight pivot, Jay-Z talks about his troubled relationship with Kanye West. “That’s my brother. We’re beyond friends.” Does that mean that the feud between Jay-Z and Kanye is over? Not necessarily. “And, like your little brother, things happen sometimes.” He then asks Letterman if he has any siblings and if they’ve ever had a falling out, to which Letterman replies: “I’ll let you know when it’s over.” “Exactly!” Jay-Z says. “It’s exactly like that.
