Has Woody Allen Replaced Carla Bruni in Midnight in Paris?

If only she had a 36th take ! According to the ever-reliable Daily Mail , Woody Allen has taken the necessary steps to cutting French first lady — and terrible baguette holder — Carla Bruni out of Midnight in Paris by having French actress Lea Seydoux re-film Bruni’s scenes. Seydoux was added to the cast back in August, however, so perhaps she was just spotted shooting another baguette scene, and not a replacement one. Either way, the biggest winner here is the baguette industry. [ Daily Mail ]

Will Simon Cowell Bring Auto-Tune to the U.S. X-Factor?

American Idol ‘s liege lord Simon Cowell sucked the life from American Idol when he fled the judging panel to take on the single venture that could possibly net him more money per calendar year: introducing his The X-Factor franchise to America. Sounds like a great idea — at least for Cowell, who will be earning significantly more on the music revenues end of the deal — but what about all of those American television viewers who have never heard of X-Factor or its most successful export Leona Lewis and assume (rightly) that it’s just another Idol derivative? Simon just may have a nefarious plan.

Movieline Premieres the Poster for Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger

Movieline is privileged to introduce the first poster for Woody Allen’s latest film You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger , which Sony Pictures Classics will release on Sept. 22. In quintessential Allen style, it’s a relatively straightforward affair with an alphabetically listed ensemble and one historic exception: It’s the first Allen poster in decades not featuring the name of his late co-producer Charles H. Joffe, who died in 2008. Jack Rollins, meanwhile, is still holding it down. Click through for a glimpse.

The You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger Trailer: Woody Allen Squared

For a brief period during the last decade, it seemed like Woody Allen finally — finally — had his fill of making male actors ape his most famous mannerisms and tics in an attempt to recreate the glory years when Allen himself was able to carry a film on his slight shoulders. Some pointed to the change of venue from New York to Europe for this renaissance, and that may be true — from Match Point to Vicky Cristina Barcelona , the Woody-fied leading men were slowly being weeded out of his oeuvre. But then Whatever Works landed — and apparently, the rest is history. With that in mind, say hello to the international trailer for You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger , which offers you two Woody Allen stand-ins for the price of one!

What are Woody Allen’s Favorite Woody Allen Movies?

The IM comes in from a few friends, and it’s virtually the same in every case: “Woody Allen picked six favorites from his own list of films, and have you SEEN the choices?” I hadn’t yet, but at the same time, my Google Reader had filled up with aggrieved headlines about it, and to take it from the reception, he chose unwisely! So I look at the six he picked, and guys? They’re not that bad.

This Weekend On Cable: From Allen to Zoe, 9 Reasons to Skip the Multiplex

The Karate Kid ? Is that the best they can do? If you turn it into a hit, things will never change. It’d be like asking McDonald’s to serve lobster when the gristle burgers they already sell buy the board members plenty of private jets already, thank you. You probably don’t need to be told, but big-screen LCD TVs can be had for what you’d spend on maybe 12 nights at the movies. Twelve Karate Kid s! Plus some cable…
