Name That Party: In Iowa, With Lame Duck Raise-Granting Dem Gov, Drudge Does, Des Moines Register Doesn’t

The seemingly endless variety of “name that party” stunts has yet another wrinkle. In this case, Matt Drudge is currently linking to a Des Moines Register story (“Culver OKs state pay raises”; also saved here at host for future reference) about how outgoing Iowa Governor Chet Culver has decided to rush through union contracts granting thousands of state employees 3% raises (before considering “step” raises that occur with seniority) in each of the next two years before Republican Governor Terry Bransted takes over in January. The headline for Drudge's link is “Lame duck Dem governor in Iowa OKs $100 million in raises for state workers.” Actually, it's $100 million a year for the next two years. But the linked Register article by Jason Clayworth never identifies Culver's Democratic Party affiliation, even though he tags the governor's opposition as Republican twice in the first two paragraphs. In other words, not that it was difficult to show that Culver is a Dem , but Drudge had to figure it out and tell his readers — and we thank him for that. Here are excerpts from Clayworth's clunker: read more

Carmelo Anthony Says He Couldn’t Do Anything Without Education

‘I had to take care of school, and then everything else just fell in place,’ NBA phenom reminds kids at Get Schooled event. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Jeff Schneider Carmelo Anthony Photo: MTV News Carmelo Anthony’s mesmerizing moves on the court wouldn’t be possible without one key factor — and it’s not just putting in extra work at practice. “Without education, I couldn’t really do nothing,” Anthony told MTV News at a Get Schooled event at Denver’s George Washington High School, which was also attended by Ludacris, indie MC Saigon and ‘Melo’s wife La La Vazquez. “Without my grades, I couldn’t really play ball, I couldn’t really hang out. I had to take care of school, and then everything else just fell in place.” The Denver Nuggets forward insisted that anybody who wants to score success should use a strong educational background as their jumping-off point. “Education should be first in everybody’s agenda. I think high school and just education gets you prepared for the real world,” ‘Melo maintained. As challenging as homework may be, the megastar baller said making a mark outside of the classroom is a lot harder. “All the subjects that you think is hard right now in high school, trust me, it gets harder out there in the real world,” he explained. “So this is where it starts, this is the stepping-stone.” Anthony said he enjoyed his face time with the high-schoolers at the event and dreamed big about taking the project to the next level. “I think Get Schooled probably, for me, is one of the best programs that I’ve been involved in — and I’m not just saying that because I’m on here,” Anthony said. “Just for the simple fact that we get a chance to hear from young kids what’s going on in their mind and their life and what can they do to better their education. “I wish that we could just do it on a much bigger scale. Hopefully we can just grow the tour to 20 cities next time,” he continued. “And not just have us come out there and talk, but actually showing the statistics and the videos, just everything that goes along with it.” Stay tuned to MTV News for more information about how you can get the president to speak at your commencement celebration at the end of this school year. Get Schooled is a national program aimed at increasing high school and college graduation rates and promoting the importance of education, developed by Viacom in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Pusha T Says Cryptic ‘So Appalled’ Verse Is ‘Self-Explanatory’

Clipse MC opens up about apparent reference to incarcerated ex-manager on Kanye West track, on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Alvin Blanco Pusha T Photo: Sohyung Kang/MTV News Pusha T has been getting plenty of mainstream recognition lately thanks to his G.O.O.D. Music co-sign and standout guest appearances on Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. When the younger half of Virginia rhyme duo the Clipse dropped by “Rap Fix Live” on Thursday, he opened up about trips to Hawaii to craft “Runaway” with ‘Ye , but he also talked about brother and rhyme partner Malice as well as his incarcerated former manager. “Everybody knows that we’ve been through the wringer as far as the whole music and the whole street situation,” Pusha said. “Our family, our management, our friends. I lost five of my closest friends in ’09; like 30 years, 15 years [in prison] or better. A lot of what you see me doing right now is just so that none of that goes in vain, [like], I’mma show y’all that this is not in vain.” Pusha’s onetime manager Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez was charged in 2009 with leading a $10 million drug-trafficking ring and sentenced to 32 years in prison. Asked whether a lyric from West’s “So Appalled” (“I speak of gospel, hostile/ Tony doing time for what he did to nostrils”) referred to Gonzalez, Pusha, who has typically been guarded about his ex-manager in the press, would only say, “That’s self-explanatory.” According to Pusha, it was the instrumental for “So Appalled” that inspired him to deliver such a spirited verse. “It’s Kanye, the beat brings the ghost out of you,” he said. The Virginia MC gave an update about Malice, who he said has been busy preparing for the release of his memoir, “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked,” with a provocative series of vlogs that include excerpts from the book. “People always say the dichotomy of the Clipse is, I’m the more brash one and Malice is the more introspective one, and [those are] the roles we play in the group,” Pusha explained. “But when you take Malice out of the group and you sit him down and he talks to you, well, writing to you in this book, it’s not rhyming, it’s just these are his words, these are his thoughts, these are his experiences. I think people are going to be blown away by this guy’s mind.” What do you think of Pusha’s verse on “So Appalled”? Share your reviews in the comments. Sarah Palin to American Idol Contestants: You Are All No-Talent Hacks!

Yes, this is a real story . In Sarah Palin’s latest book, America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag, due out next week, she takes on a number of weighty topics. Presumably. According to excerpts leaked today, she also lambasts American Idol for fostering a “cult of self-esteem.” You know, since no one tells the singers they’re bad! WE’RE #1! Sorry, Lee DeWyze, but according to some observers, you’re not . “No one they have encountered in their lives – from parents to teachers to their president – wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth,” opines Sarah Palin. She says Idol trots out a “seemingly endless supply of people who can’t sing but are deluded enough to get in front of a national television audience anyway.” [Rebuttal rendered unnecessary] Does the star of Sarah Palin’s Alaska think the show’s judging isn’t harsh enough? Or shouldn’t exist because it encourages mediocre singers to think they’re stars? Is this really necessary or accurate? While some Idol products are bad, the show did produce Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry and other stars. As far as the broader narrative (we think) she’s going for, we sort of agree that kids are coddled nowadays, but … we’re still a bit unclear on what her point is. In any case, Sarah needn’t worry that everyone out there is afraid to tell the truth. We’ve totally done so regarding Willow Palin’s homophobia . You’re welcome.

Excuse Adam Lambert While He Kisses Some Guy…

Adam Lambert paid homage to Jimi Hendrix at a concert in France last night. And to the countless music fans that have often mistaken the lyrics to this icon’s classic 1967 single “Purple Haze.” As part of his Glam Nation Tour in Europe, Lambert treated concert goers to a rendition of this single, switching up the words from “Excuse me while I kiss the sky” to “Excuse me while I kiss some guy.” Not merely apt for Adam, the latter verse has been sung so often that a website has actually been created in its honor . Click on the images above to enlarge shots of Lambert on stage. Then, sit back, relax and watch the video of him covering Hendrix below. It’s great stuff. Purple Haze Renditon

‘Harry Potter’ Fans Weigh In On Harry And Hermione Topless Kiss

‘They’re totally topless and it’s really creepy,’ one uncomfortable fan says after midnight ‘Deathly Hallows’ screening. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Evan Leong “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” fans at a midnight screening in New York City on Thursday Photo: John Lamparski/ Getty Images “Awkward,” “creepy,” “disturbing.” Those were among the words “Harry Potter” fans used to describe the rather unexpected and altogether hallucinatory kiss between Harry and Hermione in “Deathly Hallows.” Streaming out of a midnight screening with lightning-bolt scars drawn on their foreheads and clutching wands, “Potter”-ites were still reeling from that onscreen smooch. “They’re totally topless and it’s really creepy,” Emma Larson told MTV News. That sentiment is not far from how Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger, was feeling when she found out exactly what was in store for her scripted kiss. “It was only the day before that they said, ‘Oh, by the way, we hope it’s all right, but we want you to be topless , and we’re going to cover you in silver paint,’ ” the actress told us earlier this week. “It was awkward enough as it was without the silver paint and the strapless bra, but whatever. It works.” Others also agreed that it works. Itamar Lilienthal certainly did, calling the lip-locking “very erotic.” Admitted Dustin Atlas, “I was a little jealous.” Some, however, were not digging the twist, which had Harry and Hermione swapping spit as part of their friend’s jealous hallucination. “It was a little awkward,” Jane Howe said. “It was not a natural kiss, and they were naked, which added a whole other aspect to it.” “It actually made me more uncomfortable,” Chris McMahon said. Many fans were simply unprepared to see Hermione showing affection to anyone other than Ron. But for some, the kiss was a chance to see, at long last, Harry and Hermione together, at least for a few seconds. “That was pretty intense,” said Hillary Brens. “I think a lot of fans wanting that relationship to happen — they finally got it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Green Lantern’: The Movie That Could Have Been

Superhero flick could have been a Quentin Tarantino movie starring Jack Black or T.I. By Eric Ditzian Photo: DC Comics “The ring, it chose you,” Ryan Reynolds is told in the new “Green Lantern” trailer . That is true. People ‘s Sexiest Man Reynolds did finally land the role of Hal Jordan in the DC Comics adaptation. But the path that led to his casting was a circuitous one. Did you know Jack Black was once considered for the part? That the flick was once set to shoot in Australia? That Quentin Tarantino was actually offered the director’s job? Oh, what could have been … Kevin Smith, for example, was once approached to helm a Green Lantern movie. Clearly, that would have been a more comedic take on the property. As would the installment that Black was eyeing. “It would have been a comedy, and I don’t know, maybe they didn’t want to go that way with the character,” Black told MTV News back in 2007. “You don’t see a lot of the superheroes as comedies. Batman, Superman, Spider-man — they’re all pretty straight-up. I was going to be capturing bad guys with green, giant prophylactics. Some funny stuff.” As part of a potential Justice League film, the character was rumored to have been offered to everyone from Common to T.I. to Tyrese Gibson. And for a solo flick, “Everwood” creator Greg Berlanti was once tapped to direct, while “Watchmen” helmer Zack Snyder and Tarantino were approached for the gig. “I was offered the ‘Green Lantern,’ ” Tarantino revealed to MTV News. “Not since it’s been a script, but just like, ‘Hey we own the “Green Lantern.” Would you like it?’ ” By early ’09, Warner Bros. had announced that “Green Lantern” would hit theaters on December 17, 2010. Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”) would direct and the film would shoot in Australia with a reported budget of $150 million. But who would be Jordan? Early rumors touched on names like Ryan Gosling, Brian Austin Green , “Gossip Girl” star Matthew Settle and “Star Trek” stars Chris Pine and Anton Yelchin . The three front-runners eventually became Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Reynolds . “I did get a chance to try out for it, which was amazing to even get a chance,” Cooper said later. “Ryan Reynolds got it — who, by the way, if I was directing the movie, I would cast him. He’s perfect. He actually looks like a superhero.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Kanye West’s Dark Twisted Fantasy: Move On, Or Get Out Of The Way

The story may have begun on September 13, 2009, but it ends with West’s thrilling, chilling opus, in Bigger Than the Sound. By James Montgomery Kanye West Photo: Jim Spellman/ WireImage I was there the night Kanye West started writing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It was September 13, 2009, at the MTV Video Music Awards. You probably remember what happened that night . Anyway, I was there, standing about 200 feet from West when he bolted onstage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. I heard the gasps from the celebs sitting around him and the boos from the folks up in the cheap seats. I saw him flip them the bird, stride defiantly back to his seat, throw his arm around Amber Rose. I saw Pink walk by the couple during a commercial break, say something pointed and shake her head in disgust, while her security guards tried in vain to shuffle her along. I watched as West was escorted out into the wings of Radio City Music Hall, up a flight of stairs, where huddled members of MTV’s brass (like my bosses’ bosses’ bosses) were waiting. I didn’t hear what was said after that, but I could tell it was tense, because I was specifically told to move on by a pair of security guards in black suits who clearly weren’t up for negotiation. So, yes, I was there the night Fantasy was conceived, even if West wasn’t actually scribbling down lyrics or punching drum patterns into an MPC at the time (how could he do all that and still hold his Hennessy Black?). It was the moment when ‘Ye became the most-hated man in America, a rapping amalgamation of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Alex Rodriguez and that terrible toddler you always see in the grocery store. The implications of his VMA tantrum were so far-reaching that our current president called him “a jackass” and our 39th president ripped his behavior as “completely uncalled for.” In retrospect, the whole thing seems pretty ridiculous, but at the time, it was the biggest scandal on the planet, and ‘Ye spent the next few months apologizing (and apologizing and apologizing ) for what he had done … even if, you know, what he said during his tirade was sort of right. It didn’t matter. He was vilified. He became a laughingstock, a cautionary tale. People whispered that he was headed for rehab. Instead, West decided to go into seclusion. The story refused to die. So one day, somewhere in Hawaii (or India ) or wherever he was holed up, Kanye made a decision: He was done apologizing. He was finished hiding. And he didn’t care what Donald Trump or Jimmy Carter had to say about him. Not anymore. And that’s when he decided to welcome us all into his Dark Twisted Fantasy. The story may have begun on September 13, 2009, but it ends right now. Because Fantasy is most definitely the last word, the final chapter. And, no, Kanye’s not saying he’s sorry, not even once. It is less an act of contrition than it is a declaration of independence, an unapologetic, unflinching ode to excess and depravity, a sweeping ride through thrilling highs and crushing lows, a blow-by-blow account of one man’s battle to find not only himself but a balance between the immediacy of sexuality and the long-term ledger of spirituality. It is a garish theatrical spectacle, a production filled with angels and demons, ghosts and Greek choruses, kings and pharaohs, judges, juries and executioners. In other words, it is a pretty apt summation of the past 14 months of Kanye West’s life: an over-the-top, too-ridiculous-to-be-real spectacle that never seemed to end. Which is why everything on Fantasy seems to be pushed to the breaking point — and then pushed even further beyond. The beats are badder, the boasts bigger. The women are looser and the cars faster. The stakes are higher and the temperature hotter. West can’t get higher or lower, angrier or hornier, steadier or more unhinged. It is a thrilling, chilling listen, not only the most jaw-dropping accomplishment of his already stellar career, but the most personal too. West has been surrounded and suffocated, tormented and judged, and he’s smart enough to know that he’s powerless to change the tide of public opinion. So instead, he’s just going to explain himself. “Take it or leave it, believe it or not,” he seems to be saying with Fantasy, “But here is who I am and this is why I do what I do.” That fearlessness, that honesty is what makes Fantasy such an incredible album. It is defiantly anti-reconciliatory. There are no olive branches extended, and if you hate Kanye for every tantrum he’s thrown and you’re past the point of forgiveness, then you are most definitely going to skip his new album. And it will be your loss. The bald-faced swagger of tracks like “Monster” or Power,” the complex fragility of “Runaway” or “Blame Game,” the lyrical scope of “Hell of a Life” or “Gorgeous,” it’s an embarrassment of riches and a dazzling array of accomplishments, though perhaps the most dazzling is this: With My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West has closed the book, he has moved past his detractors, and he’s done it by going deep, by being brave and bold and, yes, probably a little crazy too. Move on or get the hell out of the way because Kanye is done apologizing for what he did. Finally. Do you think Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy represents his best work to date? GLOBAL POLITICAL AWAKENING: The History of Health Tyranny: Codex Alimentarius, part 1

http://globalpoliticalawakening.blogspot.com/2010/11/history-of-health-tyranny-c… Contrary to popular belief Codex Alimentarius is neither a law nor a policy. It is in fact a functioning body, a Commission, created by the Food and Agricultural Organization and the World Health Organization under the direction of the United Nations. The confusion in this regard is largely due to statements made by many critics referring to the “implementation” of Codex Alimentarius as if it were legislation waiting to come into effect. A more accurate phrase would be the “implementation of Codex Alimentarius guidelines,” as it would more adequately describe the situation. Codex is merely another tool in the chest of an elite group of individuals whose goal is to create a one world government in which they wield complete control. Power over the food supply is essential in order to achieve this. As will be discussed later, Codex Alimentarius will be “implemented” whenever guidelines are established and national governments begin to arrange their domestic laws in accordance with the standards set by the organization. The existence of Codex Alimentarius as a policy-making body has roots going back over a hundred years. The name itself, Codex Alimentarius, is Latin for “food code”[1] and directly descended from the Codex Alimentarius Austriacus, a set of standards and descriptions of a variety of foods in the Austria-Hungarian Empire between 1897 and 1911.[2] This set of standards was the brainchild of both the food industry and academia and was used by the courts in order to determine food identity in a legal fashion. Even as far back as 1897, nations were being pushed toward harmonization of national laws into an international set of standards that would reduce the “barriers to trade” created by differences in national laws.[3] As the Codex Alimentarius Austriacus gained steam in its localized area, the idea of having a single set of standards for all of Europe began to pick up steam as well. From 1954-1958, Austria successfully pursued the creation of the Codex Alimentarius Europaeus (the European Codex Alimentarius). Almost immediately the UN directed FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization) sprang into action when the FAO Regional Conference for Europe expressed the desire for a global international set of standards for food. The FAO Regional Conference then sent a proposal up the chain of command to the FAO itself with the suggestion to create a joint FAO/WHO programme dealing with food standards. The very next year, the Codex Alimentarius Europeaus adopted a resolution that its work on food standards be taken over by the FAO. In 1961, it was decided by the WHO, Codex Alimentarius Europaeus, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the FAO Conference to create an international food standards programme known as the Codex Alimentarius.[4] In 1963, as a result of the resolutions passed by these organizations two years earlier, Codex Alimentarius was officially created.[5] Although created under the auspices of the FAO and the WHO, there is some controversy regarding individuals who may or may not have participated in the establishment of Codex. Many anti-Codex organizations have asserted that Nazi war criminals, Fritz Ter Meer[6] and Hermann Schmitz[7] in particular, were principal architects of the organization. Because many of these claims are made with only indirect evidence, or no evidence at all, one might be tempted to disregard them at first glance. However, as the allegations gain more and more adherents, Codex has attempted to refute them. In its Frequently Asked Questions section, Codex answers the question, “Is it true that Codex was created by a former war criminal to control the world food supply?”[8] It then goes on to answer the charges by stating: No. It is a false claim. You just need to type the words “Codex Alimentarius” in any search engine and you will find lots of these rumors about Codex. Usually the people spreading them will give no proof but will ask you to send donations or to sign petitions against Codex. Truthful information about Codex is found on the Internet – there is nothing to hide from our side – we are a public institution working in public for the public – we are happy if people want to know more about our work and ask questions. There is an official Codex Contact Point in each member country who will be pleased to answer your questions on Codex.[9] But, as one can see from the statement above, Codex’s response does very little to answer this question beyond simply disagreeing with it. While it is true that many individuals who make this claim provide little evidence for it, the presentation of the information does not necessarily negate its truthfulness. In fact, Codex offers its own website as a source for accurate information about the organization; yet, beyond the FAQ section, there is nothing to be found that is relevant to the “war criminal” allegations. Furthermore, the codexalimentarius.net website is virtually indecipherable, almost to the point of being completely useless. In the end, this response raises more questions than it answers. This is because Codex, if it wanted, could put these rumors to rest by simply posting a list of the individuals and organizations that funded or played an integral role in its creation. However, it does nothing of the sort. Beyond mentioning the FAO and the WHO, we are completely unaware of who or how many other individuals and organizations participated in the creation of Codex Alimentarius. Jay-Z Calls Jay Electronica ‘A Student Of The Game’

While promoting his new book, ‘Decoded,’ Hov talks up latest Roc Nation signee. By Kyle Anderson, with reporting by Sway Calloway Jay-Z Photo: MTV News Last week, Jay-Z added another MC to his Roc Nation label roster when he signed New Orleans-born rapper Jay Electronica . Electronica has been building major buzz over the past year thanks to tracks like “Exhibit A” and “Exhibit C,” both of which became Internet sensations. While Electronica’s approach to rap is quite different from Jay-Z’s (relying on more esoteric production styles and vastly different flows), the label boss says that what drew him to his latest charge was his drive and passion for hip-hop. “It’s obvious that he really genuinely loves it and is a student of rap and the game,” he said of Jay Electronica during a conversation with Sway about Hova’s new book “Decoded,” which hits stores on Tuesday (November 16). “You can’t write those sort of songs or come to that sort of conclusion without having a deep love for what you’re doing and a deep understanding and a deep drive.” Jay Electronica has clearly left an impression on Jay-Z, as the latter had a similar level of awe in his words when he introduced Electronica as his label’s newest member during an event at New York’s the Box on Friday night. “My whole goal is to reintroduce magic to hip-hop,” Jigga said of Electronica. “We watched this wizard do his thing. Y’all supported him. And he’s an official Roc Nation signee.” Electronica is the latest member of the Roc Nation empire that includes Jay himself, R&B superstar Rihanna and junior next big thing Willow Smith. Ready to take advantage of the announcement’s buzz, Electronica immediately released two new tracks, “The Announcement” over the weekend and “Shiny Suit Theory” featuring Jay-Z on Monday.
