Crystal Bowersox And Lee Dewyze Earn High Praise From ‘American Idol’ Judges With ‘Falling Slowly’

The pair’s duet on song from ‘Once’ has judges raving on movie night. By Kara Warner Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze Photo: FOX Tuesday”s “American Idol”” was to be, in the words of Ryan Seacrest, “a theme fit for a star,” and all about paying tribute to the movies . And with cool-as-a-cucumber mentor Jamie Foxx and several interesting song selections in tow, the Top 4 gave it their all. Sort of. The judges agreed that the evening’s two duets, “Falling Slowly” by Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze; and “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman” by Michael Lynche and Casey James, were better than the contestants’ solo performances. And there’s not much question that Crystal and Lee’s dueling-guitar version of the Oscar-winning “Once” tune sung by Glen Hansard and Mark

Drake’s ‘Find Your Love’ Video: What Are The Jamaican Characters Saying?

We decipher what’s going on in the Young Money MC’s latest clip. By Jayson Rodriguez, with additional reporting by Hanif Sumner Photo: Young Money Lost in translation? During Drake’s adventure in the clip for “Find Your Love,” the rapper was warned not to chase the top shotta’s girl — but he still ran after leading lady Maliah Michel. But what exactly was the sage advice he turned down? The thick accents in the video make it difficult to tell — but MTV News got the lowdown. “Consciously speaking, that girl there is trouble,” the elder Jamaican man tells Drake as the video opens. “That girl is going to make you get yourself in serious trouble.” Drake ignores the words and the man gets a bit more serious with his warning. “Hey, skipper, I’m telling you — see if you look at that country side there, at Jamaica,” he says. “That man there named Puffy is a bad man — a bad man. You don’t want to get involved or you’ll be dead. Take me serious, that man is a bad man, mad man — that man kills people. You just come here; you don’t really know it. You don’t want to get involved with him.” The man then assures Drake he doesn’t want to get involved in a world like that and that he should focus on his album and his music. However, Drake still refuses to listen and ventures back into into town to find his love interest. The video then rewinds back to when Drake and Michel first encounter each other; Mavado, who plays the ganglord, has men on lookout who spot the rapper talking to Michel, his woman. The rude boys watch Drake and their boss’ girl leave the party for a romantic liaison on the beach. After the pair take off, one of Mavado’s goons races via motorcycle to tell his boss about what happened. They talk about the “brown boy” who has been in town causing trouble. “Get my dog them,” Mavado tells his underling. “Tell them we are going on the road.” As Drake arrives at the house Michel is located in “Gully Side,” Mavado and his men creep up behind him and capture the rapper. The final scene features Drake bound by rope as Mavado coldly informs him he’s crossed the line. “Aight, so you want come to Jamaica and look at my woman? You hear me. Here. Done. Do it,” he says as he hands the gun over to Michel to finish Drake. “Anything you want that’s in Jamaica belongs to the gully cat.” Did you think Drake perished at the hands of his leading lady? Drake Messes With Wrong Girl In ‘Find Your Love’ Video

Rapper is chased down by a gang after pursuing the boss’ lady. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake in his “Find Your Love” video Photo: Young Money You don’t mess with the boss’ girl. It’s an age-old adage that Drake is apparently still learning in his new video, “Find Your Love,” which premiered Tuesday (May 11) on MTV.com. In the clip, directed by Anthony Mandler (who’s worked with Jay-Z, John Mayer and Mary J. Blige), an ominous message runs across the bottom of the screen foreshadowing the action to come, as an elderly man advises Drake to get out of town: “The worst thing about crossing a line is when you don’t know you already have. …” Drake fires back, ignoring the advice, as images of his leading lady Maliah Michel flash before his eyes: “It’s just hard for me to up and leave like that. “I don’t understand how you can own somebody,” he continues. “If I leave and I don’t see her, I feel like I really have a regret, I’m gonna go home and think what if?” From there, things rewind to Drake in a dancehall club in the heart of Kingston, Jamaica . Standing in the VIP area with scantily-clad females gyrating around him, the Toronto MC ignores his present company when he spots Michel, who’s dancing suggestively herself with dancehall superstar Mavado , who plays the head gangster in the clip. Drake and Michel’s eyes lock in a gaze, however, and soon he’s making his move on the video vixen. In the next scene, at a beach party, Drake approaches Michel as members of Mavado’s gang idle nearby and watch the interaction. The crooning rapper then kisses her on the hand and she pulls him in closer with a welcoming smile. As Drake and Michel leave the party to walk to the beach, the gang members ride out on their motorcycles to relay to the boss what’s going on with his lady. Mavado is informed about the “brown boy” who’s been causing trouble and orders action. “Do it now,” he tells his underling. Back in the present, an unsuspecting Drake is walking through “Gully” town, searching for his lover. Memories of his rendezvous with her play back in his mind, from their playful flirtation on the beach to the sizzling bedroom scene. When Drake arrives at the compound where Michel is located, he peers over the gate to call for her right when Mavado and his rude boys descend behind him. Guns are drawn and Drake is captured by the goons. The camera zooms in toward the house, where Michel appears to have a look of consternation on her face. The Young Money rookie is then tied up and placed in a chair in a basement, surrounded by members of Mavado’s gang. A weary but unharmed Drake quietly sits as Mavado chastises him for coming to Jamaica and thinking he could take his woman. Then, much to Drake’s surprise, his would-be love, sitting on Mavado’s lap, coldly rises to her feet, takes the gun placed on the gangster’s lap and walks slowly toward her fling. Clarity washes over Drake as he realizes he was set up from the beginning. Michel makes her way behind Drake, raises the gun, and then three gunshots ring out in synch with the words “Find Your Love” flashing across the screen. What do you think about Drake’s new video? ‘American Idol’ Shania Twain Night Fits Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus

For the first time all year, the judges do not rave about Crystal Bowersox. By Gil Kaufman Michael Lynche on “American Idol” Tuesday Photo: Fox In a season filled with youthful mentors like Miley Cyrus, Usher, Adam Lambert and Alicia Keys, Tuesday night’s (April 27) “American Idol” brought back a country/pop superstar who hasn’t released a new album in eight years. But Shania Twain knows what she’s talking about, since she was a guest judge during the audition rounds and her soft-focus advice to the remaining six finalists helped a few — Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly and Siobhan Magnus — get back in the thick of the competition, even as long-time front-runner Crystal Bowersox faced her first neutral notices of the finals. First up was barroom rocker Lee Dewyze, who Twain met during the Chicago auditions. He chose “You’re Still the One,” with Twain suggesting he hold off on the guitar at the top and come in more subtly with a piano. Dewyze took her advice, starting off quietly and then rising to sing the everlasting-love lyrics in his signature raspy voice. Admitting it’s one of his favorite songs of all time (really, Dawg?), Randy Jackson said it started out, yes, pitchy but praised Dewyze for finding a way to make it his own by mid-song. “You found your sweet spot,” he said, with Ellen DeGeneres agreeing and saying that Lee’s talent is finding himself in each song. Simon Cowell said Lee picked the absolutely perfect tune from Twain’s catalog but faulted what Kara DioGuardi labeled a smile as a “weird face.” Shania said she was moved by the way Michael Lynche sang “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing,” reminding him that even though his singing seems effortless, he should remember to imbue it with feeling. Big Mike transformed the tune into a Maxwell-like R&B seduction play, giving the song a gospel flair and throwing in some ear-candy falsetto at the end that brought a tear to Twain’s eye. Ellen compared the emotion Lynche brought to the song to the late great Luther Vandross, and Jackson said Lynche has found his lane as a sensitive balladeer. “I thought the performance, however, was a little bit wet, as if you were in a musical acting out the words,” Cowell said to the rest of the panel’s confusion after agreeing with DeGeneres’ Vandross analogy. “It was a little bit girly for you.” How was construction worker Casey James going to rebound from criticism that he was a bit lazy last week? Encouraging him to let his confidence shine through, Twain was excited about James’ choice of “Don’t.” Sitting on a stool and playing simple rhythm guitar, James sang a straightforward version of the midtempo ballad, stripping away some of his calling-card bluesy grit in favor of a more emotional, mellow rock vibe. “Casey, artists do not hide: the good, the bad, the ugly. They show it all, and that’s what you did in that performance,” said a pumped-up DioGuardi. “And that’s what you did in that performance. You didn’t hide. You didn’t cover it up with guitar. You were vulnerable, you were raw.” Cowell and Jackson also said it was one of the best performances James has given on the show so far, praising him for finally finding his sweet spot. She can do blues and pop, but can season leader Crystal Bowersox do country? MamaSox, who got her guitar signed by Twain during the Chicago auditions, chose “No One Needs to Know,” and Shania said she needed to let the emotion shine through. Backed by simple percussion, lap steel guitar, standup bass and mandolin, Bowersox crooned the tune in a peppy, old-timey country cadence, imbuing it with her particular charm while smiling through lyrics she said she hoped would get her boyfriend to “man up” someday. “Shocker, we don’t like Crystal this week,” Cowell frowned. “It was limp,” he added, comparing it to being forced to listen to a hired band in a coffee shop. “I didn’t feel any conviction from you.” Randy was into the Nickel Creek vibe, even if, like Ellen, he didn’t love the performance. Though Kara said it’s kind of impossible for Crystal to not be good because of her honest nature, she, too, thought it was just OK. Aaron Kelly, 17, has been on the bubble for weeks, and Shania tried to put him at ease about singing “You’ve Got a Way,” telling him to not worry about hitting the notes and just sing the song the way he feels comfortable. Kelly, arguably the most country of the remaining singers, convincingly and confidently sang the expansive ballad, giving one of his most solid performances in weeks. “The amount of emotion and depth that you showed when you sang that song … the maturity you had to embrace those lyrics,” Ellen said. Kelly proved he gets the “Idol” game by explaining that he changed a line about making love because he was singing the tune to his mom, and Kara praised his conviction. “For the first time in weeks, it actually felt sincere, it felt believable,” Cowell said. The final spot belonged to Siobhan Magnus, who went with “Any Man of Mine.” Twain encouraged her to get into the character of a woman who knows what she wants. Though her vocals were typically uneven, Magnus worked the crowd while strutting across the stage in a short flowered skirt and white boots, unleashing a pair of her signature rebel yells to cap off an upbeat performance. Simon, no fan of country music, loved the song, even though he felt the screaming at the end was unnecessary, comparing it to the sounds of a woman in labor. “I loved it!” Randy raved simply, as Kara agreed, saying Magnus was back in the competition. Someone will be sent home on Wednesday night’s show, which will feature performances from Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Sons of Sylvia and Shakira. Kristin Cavallari: I am Not a Bitch!

Is Kristin Cavallari just the victim of a Hills hit job? Known for unabashed opinions and acting like a general bitch on the MTV reality show, which even promoted her return with the tagline “The Bitch is Back,” Kristin she’s a better person than she’s portrayed by The Hills . The real Kristin does charity work, people! Gosh! “If you asked my real friends, they would say I’m definitely not a bitch,” Kristin Cavallari proclaimed while hosting at the Liquid Pool Lounge in Las Vegas. However, she does add that “I definitely stand up for myself, and I’m not not a pushover.” In other words … you f*%ked with the WRONG girl, dude! THE BITCH IS NOT BACK : Kristin Cavallari says she’s a lot nicer than how she’s portrayed on The Hills … which is supposed to be a “reality” show, but who are we kidding . Cavallari’s plans for life after The Hills’ final season , which premieres tomorrow, include helping those less fortunate via the One Kid One World charity. “I was just in El Salvador, and we rebuilt this whole school,” she says. “It takes so little time, but it impacts these people for the rest of their lives.” One thing she’s not interested in pursuing – a feud with Hills costar Spencer Pratt , who recently ripped her (and pretty much everyone else) on Twitter. “I heard one little comment he made, but if that’s it, I’m fine with it,” Cavallari says. “He’s attacking everybody else. There’s so much else going on.” So true .

‘South Park’ Creators Say Muhammad Episode Was Censored Without Their Approval

Trey Parker and Matt Stone claim Comedy Central censored the controversial episode after they submitted it. By Gil Kaufman Trey Parker and Matt Stone Photo: Maury Phillips/ WireImage Over the years, “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have tried to be equal-opportunity offenders on their gleefully trash-talking cartoon, taking on everything from the Catholic church to Scientology, the mentally challenged and just about every other interest group in between with a wildly irreverent, bleep-tastic bent. But when their comic depiction of the Muslim prophet Muhammad drew strong threats for the pair this week, they said their network, Comedy Central, stepped in and took evasive action. The episode in question showed Muhammad — whose depiction in print many Muslim’s consider forbidden — dressed as a bear. A radical Muslim Web site posted a threat against the two if the material aired, which included a reference to the Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, who was brutally murdered in 2004 by Muslim extremists over his documentary about violence against Islamic women. “We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show,” read the post. “This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.” The post was accompanied by a graphic picture of Van Gogh as well as the addresses of the Comedy Central offices in New York and the “South Park” production company in Los Angeles. An accompanying montage featuring photos of Parker and Stone and Van Gogh over audio from a radical Islamic preacher ends with the words “the dust will never settle down.” In the end, all references to Muhammad, including long stretches of dialogue and the offending image — which was covered up by a large black “censored” bar — were bleeped from the show by Comedy Central in the second of a two-part episode. On Thursday night, the duo posted a statement about the controversy on their Web site, writing, “In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it.” A spokesperson for Comedy Central (which is owned by MTV Networks) had no comment. The offending episode was set up last week in a show in which some of the hundreds of celebrities who’ve been skewered by “South Park” over the years threaten to file a class-action lawsuit against the titular Colorado town if South Park didn’t fly in the prophet, who they believe has the power to save them from ridicule. In the second part, which aired this week, Muhammad does arrive, dressed in a bear costume. The “South Park” site notes that the pair do not have the approval to stream their original version of the episode online, so it’s unclear which bleeps were theirs and which were inserted by Comedy Central. This is not the first time Parker and Stone have walked this fine line. In a two-part 2006 episode about censorship, they tried to depict Muhammad but were censored by the network, though the prophet did make an appearance in a 2001 episode as part of the Super Best Friends, a superhero-like gathering of religious icons. The network’s decision was likely inspired not just by the Van Gogh murder and threat, but by the international uproar in 2005 over cartoons in a Danish newspaper that showed various images of Muhammad, including one in which the prophet wore a bomb as a turban.

Paulina Porizkova Rips Heidi Montag, Kate Hudson Plastic Surgery

Paulina Porizkova was a famed supermodel in the ’80s, and did it all naturally. She’s got some strong opinions on the surgical enhancements of today’s stars. Kate Hudson, Heidi Montag and even Madonna have drawn criticism from Porizkova, who says she was “heartbroken” by before-and-after images of them. Most recently, it was the controversial Kate Hudson breast implants that sparked Paulina’s pointed critique, even if it’s unclear whether she even got any. “The before: an amazingly fit, gorgeous, small-breasted young woman in a to-die-for red bikini; in the other, a blond starlet sipping a latte,” she writes. “The cup size was undeniably different.” “If big boobs make her happier, then more power to her,” she continues . But it’s “so much a sign of our times, and one that truly saddens me,” she adds. Kate Hudson is being compared to Heidi Montag. [Photos: Fame] “I used to use [Hudson] as an example of the perfect beauty with a small chest. Now, with her new boobs, she just looks like any California blond actress.” “Instead of enhancing, she has diminished herself.” Praising “elegant, feline sexiness” of classic movie stars / models Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn, Porizkova also slammed Heidi Montag’s plastic surgery . “Comparing these natural beauties to someone like Heidi Montag is like comparing a Hastens Swedish handmade mattress to a cheap plastic pool float.” Not the words we would have chosen, but that sounds pretty harsh! Someone can expect to be summarily bashed by Spencer Pratt on Twitter today. Even Madonna earned a rebuke from Paulina: “Madonna no longer looks like Madonna: what started as a sexy, well shaped, and somewhat hairy girl ended as a cool Nordic blonde. She is starting to sort of melt away into the stew.” Pretty much sums it up.
