Take it away, Chuck Klosterman! “Are screenwriters now affected by ‘spoiler culture’ before they even begin the writing process? If you know a twist will be unavoidably revealed before the majority of people see the work itself, and if you concede that selling and marketing a film with a major secret will be more complicated for everyone involved … would you even try? Would you essentially stop yourself from trying to write a movie that’s structured like The Sixth Sense ?” [ Grantland ]
Looks like recently divorced Garcelle Beauvais and Sean “I just dumped Scarlett Johansson” Penn are getting it in with each other!! According to E! online : So who shared a meal with the outspoken actor and human-rights activists the other night at the celebrity haunt Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles? Although he was arrived solo and sat alone at the bar for a bit, he was eventually joined by none other than Franklin & Bash actress Garcelle Beauvais. “When she arrived, they moved to the front corner table, which put them on display,” a source tells us. “They sat inside for a while and even ordered food.” Then they moved outside, where Penn was able to smoke—and perhaps have more privacy? Penn’s rep did not immediately comment. Beauvais’ issued the standard line about not commenting on her client’s private life. She was on hand in New York when Penn was honored earlier this year at the Help Haiti: Urban Zen HHRH & The Stiller Foundation event, which honored the Oscar winner for his work on the island nation. Hmmmm….well you already know these two are down with the swirl, so we believe it!

J.J. Abrams movie is only non-sequel in the top five. By Ryan J. Downey Joel Courtney in “Super 8” Photo: Paramount “Super 8” took the #1 spot at the box office over the weekend. The film’s $37 million opening isn’t on par with recent summer blockbusters, but it did beat studio expectations, according to reports. And “Super 8” bears the distinction of being the only non-sequel in the weekend’s top five. The “Super 8” marketing campaign employed many of the tactics used to promote 2008’s “Cloverfield,” which was produced by “Super 8” writer/ director J.J. Abrams. The movie stars a cast of relative unknowns and features a plot that was largely kept hidden in the trailers. Abrams devised “Super 8” as something of an homage to the work of Steven Spielberg, who served as producer. Reviews have been largely positive. “For all its obvious touches of Spielbergia, ‘Super 8’ feels a whole lot like ‘The Iron Giant’ meets ‘Stand by Me,’ ” wrote FEARnet’s Scott Weinberg. “Super 8” was produced by Paramount, which like MTV is owned by Viacom. The weekend’s only other new movie in wide release was “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer,” a children’s film based on the widely popular series of books by Megan McDonald, who co-wrote the script. The movie opened poorly, landing at #7 with just $6.2 million. And it’s one of the worst reviewed films of the year so far, according to critical aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. “X-Men: First Class” was #2 in its second week of release with $25 million for a $98.8 million total. The superhero prequel is the best reviewed of the franchise since 2003’s “X2: X-Men United.” Meanwhile, “The Hangover Part II” passed “Fast Five” to become the highest-grossing movie of 2011 thus far. The buddy comedy took in $18.5 million for a $216.5 million domestic total. Critics have largely panned the film, although co-star Zach Galifianakis detailed plans for another sequel in a recent interview with magazine (he did not confirm his involvement). “Kung Fu Panda 2” came in at #4 at the box office. The animated sequel, which features Jack Black as the voice of the title character, took in $16.6 million for a $126.9 million total. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” was #5 with $10.8 million for a $208.7 million total. This weekend’s new releases include “Green Lantern,” starring Ryan Reynolds as the DC Comics superhero; “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” starring Jim Carrey; and the PG-13 romance “The Art of Getting By.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Super 8.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Album’s release comes just two months after the tragic death of group member M-Bone, who’ll be featured on the cover. By Rob Markman Cali Swag District Photo: MTV News On July 12, hip-hop group Cali Swag District will release their debut album in memory of their fallen member, M-Bone. The Kickback, distributed by Sony RED, will feature 15 tracks including the group’s 2010 platinum hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” and their next official single, “Burn Out (Drive Fast).” The release will come just two months after CSD’s Mante “M-Bone” Talbert was tragically gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Inglewood, California. “We’re sure that M-Bone is doin’ the Dougie at the gates of heaven, and we know he would want us to keep the movement goin’ here,” CSD’s Yung said in a press release issued to MTV News. The three remaining members of Cali Swag told MTV News that they had no plans to replace M-Bone , and though the energetic dancer was laid to rest on May 27, he will still appear on the cover to The Kickback. Bone is shown doing a handstand on the album’s cover while the rest of CSD look on in amazement. “We’re just focused on staying positive and doing what we were doing prior to this incident,” CSD’s C-Smoove told MTV News recently. “Basically, make M-Bone’s legacy and his name live on through us forever, as long as we do it. We don’t feel like this is a time for us to stop. We feel like this is a time for us to go harder.” At approximately 10:30 p.m. PT on May 15, police were called to the 400 block of La Brea Avenue in Inglewood. When they arrived on the scene, they founded Talbert seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with two gunshot wounds to the head. Sources say the English singer lacked ‘spark’ for American version of the show. By Gil Kaufman Cheryl Cole Photo: Getty Cheryl Cole is officially out. After weeks of reports that the British pop star and reality show judge had been ousted from the upcoming U.S. version of Simon Cowell’s singing competition “The X Factor,” the show’s producers confirmed the split on Monday (June 6). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the statement also confirmed that Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger — originally set to be the show’s co-host — will replace the Girls Aloud star, who was also reportedly dropped from the British version of “X Factor.” “Nicole Scherzinger will be replacing Cheryl Cole on the judging panel of ‘The X Factor,’ ” read the statement. “Nicole will join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul on their search across America to find the next global superstar or group to win the life-changing $5 million dollar recording deal. Nicole has previously joined Simon Cowell as a guest judge on ‘The X Factor’ for the U.K. version of the show in 2010. Steve Jones will act as sole host of ‘The X Factor.’ ” The statement offered no explanation for why Cole was dumped from the panel or how the production will deal with footage that was already shot for two audition episodes at the recent Los Angeles tryouts. An unnamed source told the Reporter that Cole was let go because she did not have good chemistry with the other judges, Abdul in particular. “There was no spark,” the source said. “It was nobody’s fault. It just didn’t work.” A spokesperson for the show could not be reached for comment at press time to confirm another Reporter story, which claimed that Cole was still going to be paid the $1.5 million she was owed under her contract. The statement ended almost two weeks of drama over the judging panel of Cowell’s show, a heavily hyped return to American television for the former lead “American Idol” judge. Unlike other new singing competition programs, such as NBC’s hit “The Voice,” and, arguably, “Idol,” the panel for “X Factor” is light on pop-star talent. Those shows have both succeeded by putting an interesting mix of veteran and contemporary singing stars on their panels and highlighting the chemistry between them. A source told Reuters that Cole was not dumped, as rumored, due to her strong Northern English accent, or as an elaborate PR stunt to hype the show, but because she simply lacked the right personality onscreen. “She wasn’t herself. After four days of filming, she wasn’t what the producers had expected,” an unnamed source told the news service. The next round of auditions for the show will take place in New Jersey on Wednesday. In an interview with The Associated Press on Monday, Cowell denied that the lack of chemistry with Abdul was the issues and lamented that the ugly split may have caused a rift in his relationship with Cole. “I hate seeing her hurt. She’s one of — I hope — she’s one of my closest friends, and this was a decision we made which we thought would be beneficial to her, funny enough,” said Cowell, who has long championed Cole and praised her work on the British version of “X Factor.” “She was good on the American show,” Cowell said. “I personally thought she was missing her family and friends. She just looked a little bit, I wouldn’t say uncomfortable, but just not as happy as I’ve seen her on previous shows.”
Co-presenter RPattz gets carried away with an ‘ad lib’ at Movie Awards. By Aly Semigran Reese Witherspoon accepts her Generation Award at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Getty Images Reese Witherspoon was on hand at this year’s MTV Movie Awards to accept the Generation Award for her work in genre-spanning box-office hits like “Election,” “Legally Blonde,” “Cruel Intentions,” “Pleasantville” and “Walk the Line,” which earned her a Best Actress Oscar. But what Witherspoon — and the audience, for that matter — probably wasn’t expecting was some surprisingly salty banter from the co-stars who presented her with the award. Patrick Dempsey, Robert Pattinson and Chelsea Handler took the stage to praise Witherspoon’s illustrious career, with Dempsey, who co-starred with Reese in the 2002 romantic comedy “Sweet Home Alabama,” describing the actress as “beautiful and multitalented.” The actor ran down her long list of accomplishments, both onscreen and off, concluding his portion with a mention of Witherspoon’s charitable work with the Avon Foundation. Up next was a stunned Pattinson, who asked aloud, “I’m supposed to talk about the Avon thing?!” The “Twilight” hunk — he and Kristen Stewart had won Best Kiss just moments earlier — quickly tried to recover, calling Witherspoon a “great person” and pulling a piece of paper with some notes on it from his pocket. Still obviously nervous, RPattz told the crowd that he had been instructed by the teleprompter to “ad lib” his dedication. “This is the worst,” Handler quipped about Pattinson’s hilariously shaky start. Pattinson finally got his bearings and addressed Witherspoon, who was seated in the audience. The 24-year-old star reminded the actress that she played his mother in the 2004 drama “Vanity Fair” but his portion of the film was cut out, joking that it was at Witherspoon’s suggestion. However, in their most recent venture, “Water for Elephants,” Pattinson noted that Witherspoon “played my lover.” And then (in what’s bound to go down in MTV Movie Awards, missed-the-bleep-button history) Pattinson blurted, “But I did f— you.” His F-bomb went live and uncensored. But he wasn’t done yet. The actor went on to suggest that Witherspoon had trouble speaking while in a girdle, has a penchant for tequila and that she may or may not be “33 percent lesbian,” as an embarrassed Witherspoon hid her face and laughed from her seat. Pattinson concluded his remarks by saying, “It’s not always a bad thing to have sexual chemistry with your mother,” once again referencing his unseen part in “Vanity Fair.” “What a tough act to follow,” the host of E!’s “Chelsea Lately” deadpanned. The late-night funny lady opened by complimenting Witherspoon, a mother of two, saying she “still has a smaller ass than Justin Bieber. It’s OK, we’re friends,” Handler assured the vocal crowd. The comedian also shared that her pal actually has a naughty side — as seen in the infamous roller-coaster moment with Mark Wahlberg in the thriller “Fear” — before Witherspoon finally took the stage to accept her award. A beaming Witherspoon, who took the roast from “the three most ridiculous people in the world” like a champ, quickly fired back. She told her “Water for Elephants” flame that he actually botched his joke and should have declared himself the “best mother—-er in Hollywood.” Witherspoon’s zinger had Pattinson and the MTV audience cracking up. The Hollywood star’s acceptance speech included some great one-liners, but she also countered Handler’s suggestion that she’s a “dirty birdie” deep down. Rather, Witherspoon said she hopes aspiring actresses will look to her for inspiration instead of seeking fame by way of a reality show. The 35-year-old let loose about reality starlets and actresses who’ve exposed themselves for fame. “I just want to say to all the girls out there, I know it’s cool to be bad. I get it … but it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show,” Witherspoon said to a cheering audience. She continued, “When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed, you hid it under your bed … and, like, if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hide your face, people!” In closing, the actress thanked MTV for years of support and all of the fans who had made it possible for her to live out her life-long dream. Here are some stills of Miley in some movie called So Undercover, that I am sure won’t win her an Oscar, because straigth to DVD doesn’t count to the pretentious Academy, but should, because this is Miley Cyrus at her best and she’s a fucking genius on all levels, a natural talent who makes us really feel her characters, she’s got such depth in her work….ok that joke done… I think she’s lost her appeal since she turned 18, all her pervert fans who made up 90 percent of her search terms have moved onto other underage girls, leaving her confused, unsexualized and alone….with no real clear way to go…I am surprised there hasn’t been a sex tape released and that this underwear pajama is the best she can give us…and I’ll post it anyway…even though she’s almost 19 and this kind of thing isn’t as alluring to you weirdos…
I am not one to get excited over a bitch showing a little cleavage. I am so desensitized thanks to the internet and I have sex and tits available to me pretty much 24/7 that it’s just not really something that gets me excited….but I think I’m into Jennifer Aniston on a whole other level…like shit’s on some mental shit…if you know what I mean… It’s like I’d love to watch a Jennifer Aniston sex tape. I’ve loved her tits since Friends. I don’t mind the work she’s had done, it’s subtle and makes her look better than if she was a melting pile of shit of a person, and I love that she’s got this ego, or high standards that leave her unwed, unpregnant and all this other bullshit she pretends she wants, but is too into herself to go out and get…It’s like that cunt behavior I know that comes with her, makes me want to come on her… So these pictures are nothing special on the surface, but when you scratch that surface, a whole lot of good comes to the surface…if you know what i mean…
