Michelle Williams Proud To Show Her Daughter ‘Blue Valentine’ Someday

‘I feel like I could stand behind it,’ actress says of racy NC-17-rated film. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michelle Williams Photo: MTV News Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling have an NC-17-rated, rather-depressing love affair in their new, buzzy flick “Blue Valentine.” The film follows a married couple over the course of their relationship and boasts some graphic sex scenes to help weave the tale. So, is Williams nervous about her daughter, Matilda, checking out the film one day? “I’ve been thinking about that recently, the last couple days,” she told MTV News at a junket for the film. “I thought, ‘What would her reaction to that be?’ “I feel proud of this movie, and I feel like I could stand behind it when she grows up and says, ‘What were you doing for those two months in Pennsylvania?’ I feel like I could say, ‘This is what I made.’ ” The film, which opens on New Year’s Eve, may be too dark for a child to see, but much of Williams’ post-“Dawson’s Creek” work has been thought-provoking, something she said she’ll be proud to share with her daughter someday. “And I feel like that with most of my work now: I feel like I’m excited for the day when she’s old enough to see it, because my aim is to make her proud that the time I spent away from her wasn’t in vain,” she explained. While any mother/daughter viewings of “Blue Valentine” are yet to be determined, right now the pair is happy watching more family-friendly fare. “She kind of lives in a Mary Poppins world,” Williams said. ” ‘Singing in the Rain’ is our current.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Nigeria To Charge Dick Cheney In $180 Million Bribery Case, Issue Interpol Arrest Warrant

The energy services company Dick Cheney ran prior to becoming Vice President of the United States was atop the tongue of liberals each time it was awarded a contract in Iraq. Now the company's name, Halliburton, is being spoken somewhere else: Nigeria. According to a story filed late Wednesday( http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-12-01/nigeria-to-charge-dick-cheney-in-pip… ), Cheney will be indicted in a Nigerian bribery case as part of an investigation into an alleged $180 million bribery scandal. “Last week, Nigeria arrested at least 23 officials from companies including Halliburton, Saipem, Technip and a former subsidiary of Panalpina Welttransport Holding AG in connection with alleged illegal payments to Nigerian officials. Those detained were all freed on bail on Nov. 29,” Bloomberg News' Elisha Bala-Gbogbo wrote. “Authorities in the West African nation are probing Halliburton, Saipem and Technip for the alleged payment of $180 million in bribes to win a $6 billion liquefied natural-gas contract,” Bala-Gbogbo added. “Panalpina is being investigated for illegal payments it allegedly made to Nigerian customs officials on behalf of Royal Dutch Shell Plc.” The prosecuting counsel for the country's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said that indictments will be handed down in the next three days and that an arrest warrant for Cheney “will be issued and transmitted through Interpol.” Adds Bloomberg, “Obla said charges will be filed against current and former chief executive officers of Halliburton, including Cheney, who was CEO from 1995 to 2000, and its former unit KBR Inc., based in Houston, Texas; Technip SA, Europe’s second-largest oilfield- services provider; Eni SpA, Italy’s biggest oil company; and Saipem Construction Co., a unit of Eni. Obla didn’t identify the former officials whom he said held office when the alleged bribes were paid.” A spokesman for Cheney declined to comment. The US Securities and Exchange Committee probe focused on the deal as early as 2004. Wrote The Washington Post at the time: ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A35486-2004Jun11.html ) The Nigerian project, started in the early 1990s, was worth almost $5 billion to TSKJ, a partnership that included a KBR predecessor, as well as companies from France, Japan and the Netherlands. At issue are payments made to Tristar, a Gibraltar company that had a consulting arrangement with a corporation formed by TSKJ to “administer the contracts and execute the work” in Nigeria, a Halliburton spokeswoman said in response to questions. KBR, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton, was formed when Halliburton acquired Dresser Industries Inc. in 1998. It was a combination of Halliburton's Brown & Root and Dresser's M.W. Kellogg Co. Officials from the SEC and Cheney's office declined to comment. Early on Thursday, Halliburton said( http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f= /g/a/2010/12/02/bloomberg1376-LCSK1K6TTDS801-2FON5J2K50U6QS8ACM9RA159SE.DTL#ixzz16xiDvrD6) they hadn't seen the new charges, but still denied their involvement. “Halliburton's oil-field services operations in Nigeria have never in any way been part of the LNG project and none of the Halliburton employees have ever had any connection to or participation in that project,” Tara Mullee Agard, a spokeswoman for the Houston-based company, said in an e-mailed response to Bloomberg. Added Bloomberg: “Halliburton Co., the world's second- largest oilfield-services provider, said it hasn't seen any amended charges by Nigerian authorities who plan to indict current and former employees in a bribery scandal.” added by: toyotabedzrock

Bruno Mars Latest In Line Of Producers-Turned-Performers

Seven-time Grammy nominee joins short list of producer/songwriters like Kanye West, Ne-Yo and Keri Hilson to see solo success. By Gil Kaufman Bruno Mars Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images In music, the producer and/or songwriter is usually some anonymous professional who toils away in the studio at all hours crafting the music and words that go into the mouth of the flashy star who then goes on to pick up all of the hardware at the annual awards show. But sometimes that off-the-radar studio rat has so much material that he/she gets in the studio and earns some shine time of their own. Case in point: Bruno Mars . On Wednesday, the 25-year-old Hawaiian native became a Grammy Awards darling when he racked up seven nominations for his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, as well as his work on songs by other artists, including his production and songwriting on Cee-Lo’s “F— You.”

Hayley Williams Says She’d ‘Love To See B.o.B Win’ At The Grammys

The Paramore frontwoman picked up a pair of Grammy noms, but she’s rooting for her ‘Airplanes’ collaborator. By James Montgomery, with reporting by James Lacsina Hayley Williams Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images On Wednesday night, Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams picked up a pair of Grammy nominations — a Best Pop Collaboration nod for her work with B.o.B and Eminem on “Airplanes, Part II,” and a Best Pop Performance mention for her band’s song “The Only Exception.” So, when she spoke to MTV News literally minutes after learning about her noms, the singer was understandably excited. “Oh man, it feels so good!” Williams laughed. “And I’m really proud of everything that I get to be a part of, and I love being here to represent the guys. I wish they were here.” And while her two nominations are certainly nothing to sneeze at, they sort of pale in comparison to the 10 racked up by Eminem … or the five that B.o.B got. And since Williams guested on a song with both of those artists, we had to ask her who she’ll be cheering for come Grammy night. “Well, I would love to see B.o.B win everything he got nominated for … not only is he an amazing artist and performer, but he’s such a great dude,” she said. “And we’ve been lucky to tour together and I’ve just watched him explode. He’s a massive star now, and he’s still the same guy. So I love seeing my friends win, and I’m always going to be there rooting for him.” Of course, Williams may have an ulterior motive for throwing her support behind B.o.B — after all, he did promise MTV News that if he takes home an award, he will record a song with Paramore . “Oh yeah, well I think we just entered into a verbal contract about it right here,” Williams said, smiling. “We’ll definitely do it … I love music, I love working with other artists, as long as I feel it’s true to me as well. I wouldn’t have done ‘Airplanes’ if I listened to it and thought, ‘Uh, I don’t really care.’ But I heard it and I heard something really special, and I related to it.” And just what would a Paramore/B.o.B collabo sound like? “You’d be surprised,” Williams said. “Have you heard his new mixtape yet? Just listen to that and then tell me what you think it’s gonna sound like. It’s gonna be so sick.” The 53rd annual Grammy Awards will air Sunday, February 13, on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Returning To Broadway’s ‘American Idiot’

Frontman will appear in 50 more performances of the musical inspired by his band’s landmark punk-rock concept album. By Gil Kaufman Billie Joe Armstrong performs with the cast of “American Idiot” on September 28, 2010 Photo: Slaven Vlasic/ Getty Images Talk about having the boss watching your work all the time. Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong apparently had such a blast appearing in “American Idiot,” the hit Broadway show based on his band’s landmark punk-rock concept album, that he’s agreed to take the stage again — 50 more times, in fact. According to an announcement on the show’s website , after dropping in for a handful of turns as the character St. Jimmy, Armstrong will step into his Doc Martens again, beginning January 1 and running through February 27 at New York’s St. James Theatre. The cameos will come in three stretches, from January 1-9, January 18-30 and February 10-27. The actor who originated the part on Broadway, Tony Vincent, will end his run as St. Jimmy on December 30. The Tony-winning show based on the band’s Grammy-winning 2004 album got a box-office boost when Armstrong made his Broadway debut in September during eight performances. During that stretch, ticket sales grew to more than $1 million; last week’s grosses were around $600,000. You can expect tickets for those shows to be a bit harder to get. While the show has been playing to just over 50 percent capacity in recent weeks, The New York Times reported that it was boasting a nearly sold-out 93.4 percent capacity reading when Armstrong joined the cast . Though St. Jimmy doesn’t show up until midway through the show, when Armstrong burst onto the stage during his September and October slots, the audience went wild as he ripped into his theme song, “St. Jimmy,” and mixed in the perfect combination of cocky, sneering attitude. By night’s end, he took his curtain calls with the rest of the cast and played guitar on the evening-ending “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” then came back out for a second bow and some hand-slapping with the patrons down front. Wikileaks…Wreckless Endangerment or Responsible Journalism?

From unflattering, flippant remarks about foreign leaders to deadly serious security concerns, the massive publication of U.S. diplomatic correspondence by Wikileaks could have one collective and potentially disastrous effect, according to policy officials: the loss of trust in the U.S. government. “I think the greatest harm … is the loss of trust that other governments will have in dealing with the United States of America,” Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, told “Good Morning America” today. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange “is putting into danger our foreign policy and perhaps the lives of certain Americans around the world.” Officials in the Obama administration echoed Hoekstra's worries, citing one correspondence in particular that revealed what appeared to be an attempt by Yemeni leaders to mislead their own people — potentially damaging U.S. relations with a country that has proved a dangerous front in the war on terror. http://abcnews.go.com/US/official-wikileaks-greatest-danger-loss-trust/story?id=… added by: congoboy

Angelina Jolie Will NOT Celebrate Thanksgiving!

Millions will delight in Thanksgiving festivities tomorrow. Angelina Jolie is not one of them, electing not to commemorate the genocide of Native Americans. “Angelina Jolie absolutely hates this holiday and wants no part in rewriting history like so many other Americans,” a friend of the actress tells PopEater . Valid point, but pumpkin pie just tastes so good … NO THANKS-GIVING : Angelina Jolie is not a fan! “To celebrate what the white settlers did to the native Indians, the domination of one culture over another, just isn’t her style,” the friend says. “[Jolie] doesn’t want to teach her multi-cultural family how to celebrate a story of murder.” Not sure how many of us toast to murder at the dinner table on this day, but she prefers to think of herself as a citizen of the world, not just America. Always extremely sensitive to suffering throughout the world, she’s going to great lengths to make sure the Jolie-Pitt brood doesn’t honor it here. “Angelina gets so grossed out by Thanksgiving that she has made sure her family will not be in America this year on Thursday,” an insider reports. While Brad Pitt recently told Extra , “We’ll whip up a turkey somewhere,” a family friend tells me, “If Brad wants turkey, he’ll have to cook it himself.” Well, that would likely be the case whether they observe the day or not. Dude is so annoying when he eats , you know she makes him do the work.
